    Ask Yarnsalot, the Lonely Karrablast

In the distant region of Kalos, lives a single, lonely Karrablast named Yarnsalot. Living in a log in the swamps of Route 14, he is practically surrounded by others of his kind. And, having nothing more to do, Yarn often eavesdrops on the trainers wandering by. He has heard hundreds of conversations. Yet, not once has he heard any praise for Karrablast or even its evolution, Escavalier. Feeling somewhat indignant, he decides to look into it.

He wandered to Lumiose City the next day, knowing that there were many uber-specific fan clubs littering the place. Yet, he found no love for Karrablast. No wonder, no intrigue. It seemed like nobody even knew Karrablast existed. So, he decided to do something about it. He wrote an impromptu note on an announcement board near the Lumiose Gym. "Ask Yarnsalot."

Getting to work, he made his way back to Route 14, and building a cheap, improvised mailbox. He registered to get his own address to his little hollowed log home. And so, he has it now. 1200.5, Route 14. And guess what? It's open to questions! Yaaaaay! Send in your letters! Gifts! All of your gifts! All of your letters! Give them to Yaaaaaaaarn!

So, yeah, before we start, Yarn needs to lay out a few ground rules for you all, so you guys don't get too crazy!

    The Rules!
    Spoiler:
    404 no rules found

Welp, now that that's out of the way, Yarn's ready!

    Notice me, Roleplay Theatre!

        Response to Piloswine's Question

Yarn woke up that first morning, heavy-eyed and tired. He left his improvised log house, opening his improvised mailbox, living his improvised life. Deep.

Oh wow, a letter! It was at that moment, when Yarn asked, "Why are you narrating my life?" It was at the next moment, when the narrator realized that this joke wasn't funny and went nowhere. So Yarn ran back into his little log house, enthusiastically tearing open the envelope.

He read over the letter quickly, before scrounging around his house to find a writing utensil and a paper. Then, he got to writing.

        Spoiler:
        To Piloswine

Yarn believes that it's some sort of evolutionary trait that helps with some moves that Karrablast learns. For example, the two branches could help with Double Edge, X-Scissor. It overall just helps with horn attacks. At least Yarn thinks that's what it's for. He does admit it is kinda useful if you don't have a wrench around.

          In Response to Foxrally's Question

The next day went same as usual. Yarn woke up, left his log, and stared at his mailbox from a bush for a couple of hours. And, there he was. The mailman. He ran out of the bush - ready to use X-Scissor - screaming, "GIVE ME MY LETTER AND LEAVE, YOU HEATHEN!" He chuckled as the mailman dropped practically everything and ran off.

So, he spent another few minutes sorting through the letters, before finally found one addressed to him. He opened the letter, tearing the envelope open at the same time. He hopped onto a human-designed chair, that Yarn was surprised even fit in the log. To be honest, he should be surprised he can even reach it. That, yet again is beside the point.

Surprisingly, it came in the form of a picture. Hastily as ever, he read the question, before quickly writing a response

          Spoiler:

          To Foxrally

Thanks for the question. It's sad really. Yarn needs to not only be caught and traded, but with a Shelmet. It's practically impossible to evolve under those conditions. Seriously, Yarn has tried tracking down a trainer, but they're few and far between. Even when they pass by, they're usually in such a rush that they look over him. Even when he finally runs into one, they usually look over him, because Karrablast isn't the most popular pokemon.

No offense taken, really. Yarn thinks Escavalier looks cool. He'd totally evolve if he got the chance.

So Yarnsalot, what's your favorite generation of Pokemon besides the one we got to know of your species?

Yarn went back out to the pile of mail, digging through the pile. Once again, he found another letter addressed to him! "Man, what a payday," he remarked to himself. He got to his log house, opening the envelope along the way as he did before. He left the open envelope on a little table, before working on a suit of armor - a composite of Shelmet shells

He finally got back to reading the letter. He thought for a while, before writing.

              Spoiler:

              To Bisharp,

To be honest, Gen 5 is his favorite, not only because of his species being introduced, but because of the new features, - especially the World Tournament - the story, the new pokemon, the graphics. It was all pretty much perfect, and he doesn't really understand some of the hate for it.

Other than that, Gen 4 would have to be his second favorite, if only because of the Gen 2 remakes. Two regions to explore, walking with pokemon, it's all a Karrablast needs!

His third favorite is Gen 7, fourth is Gen 2, fifth is Gen 6, sixth is Gen 3, seventh is Gen 1. None of them are bad tho, as some Generation elitists say. Yarn would gladly play any of them on a boring day.

Would you say that there are perks to being a Bug-Type? I'm a big fan of them, and I'm curious if certain things are easier for you, or if there are any privileges you are allotted that other types don't get.

woo, only one and a half days late

Yarn's mail activity stopped for a while. He kept waiting and waiting for days. Finally, the fateful day came. He saw the familiar mailman outfit, and rushed to his (lack of a) door, lying in wait. This time, the mailman was smart enough to throw the letter at the (lack of a) door. Yarn peered out a bit, before snatching the letter and walking back inside.

He returned to the giant human-sized chair, eagerly tearing open the envelope. He then read the letter.

He then got to writing a response.

                Spoiler:

                To Who's Kiyo,

Great to see someone who appreciates bug-type! Yarn has to say that he doesn't really see much perks for bug type. It's pretty bad in battles, both attack-wise and defense-wise.

One thing he really likes about it though is that it covers most steel-type weaknesses. Bug covers ground and fighting, while steel covers flying and rock. My evolution is practically indestructible unless there's fire involved. Then, well, it kinda gets bad for Escavalier.

Another thing that Yarn likes is that most trainers tend to stay away from bug-types. Maybe they think they're gross, Yarn doesn't really know. Basically, you'll never see a Team Flare grunt go out of their way to steal a lone Caterpie. They're out trying to get a legendary world-ending pokemon or something. Our tight-knit community of bug-types isn't really picked-on a whole lot.

Oh, and also, it's great that fighting-type and bug-type have a mutual resistance to each other. That typically ends fights between us. And that's great, because you don't want to get in a fight with them. They're really scary! Plus, their type is literally fighting, there's no way you're gonna win with them. So, yeah, that comes in useful.

Now that Yarn thinks about it, it really is nice to be a bug-type.

                ~Yarnsalot

                  Dear Who's Kiyo,

Thanks for the question! Yarn hasn't really been knighted yet. It's kind of a nickname in a way. It all started with Yarn and his friend. We had a game where we'd build little castles out of mud and hurl globs of the stuff at each other. We'd defend our castles and give ourselves titles. So, Yarn was Sir Yarnsalot and his friend was King something, can't remember. It's been a while. It's kinda stuck ever since then.

He still wants to be knighted for real, though, so there's that.

A knock would sound from a metal trapdoor in the ground. Yet another one would vibrate through the stiff air. Finally, after a penultimate clang against the metallic door, it burst open. A familiar Karrablast would emerge, dazed, tired and hungry. This Karrablast found himself right next to a desert road, forgotten by humanity. As he began his slow, limping crawl to civilization, a van pulled by him. Only a hooded figure emerged.

"You aren't done yet." They said.

"Wh-wh-" Before the pokemon could utter a response, a letter was dropped in front of him.

"Don't disappoint us like that again."

Like that, the van disappeared. Yarn painstakingly opened the letter, reading it.

                        the letter:

                        Dear viper8890,

Yarnsalot has been just fine! You see, Yarn has been spending his time crafting the perfect Thanksgiving dinner, and one of the dishes happens to take 6 months to prepare. Yes, in fact, Yarn hatched and raised his own turkey for 6 months and he plans to slaughter it today. Nothing big has happened, really. Yarn has started and currently maintains a successful bingo hall!

If you're worrying about Yarn, that's fine. Yarn is completely fine and will continue posting regularly from now on.

if you haven't found it, look harder.

After writing the letter, Yarn couldn't help but feel incredibly dehydrated. He scanned the great, vast area of desert. His entire body felt week, and eventually, he fell unconscious next to the letter he had written not long ago..

                            Hours later.

We have secured Subject 1010 after prolonged punishment by dehydration. Numerous attempts at escape have been made, thus it must be kept in a high security unit. Two guards will be stationed out front. Provide subject mail, pen, and paper, as well as food and water. There must be constant surveillance, as the subject is highly dangerous and capable of using megahorn. Leave nothing else in the room, otherwise the subject may cease writing letters.
                            -T.A.E.O.W.

Eventually, Yarn slowly began fading back into consciousness. Every wall was completely padded and painted white. In fact, everything was white. The door was white. The ceiling was white. The pen and paper were white. The only thing that wasn't white was the ink from the pen itself. He began rocking back and forth. Where was he? Where was his family? Who were these people? Did they choose HIM for a reason?

On the floor, he found a note that sat next to a letter.

Welcome to your new life. Don't try to escape.
                            This is your life now.
                            from, (84/12)i < 7(3)u

Yarn, knowing there would be no escape soon, decided to open the letter and read it.

And thus, Yarn began to write. He would be writing for a long time. After all, it was his only foreseeable future.

                            Spoiler:
                            Dear Great Samurott,

Thanks for the letter. Yarn has wanted to express his opinions about the starters for a long time. As a lonely karrablast living in a log, Yarn sees plenty of trainers walk by with their happy little starters. After seeing these pokemon constantly, Yarn inevitably built up strong opinions on them. So, Yarn will list them! Prepare for a long letter.

yarn is in no way responsible for people getting upset over his opinion on starter pokemon

Bulbasaur line: The Bulbasaur line is pretty bland and inoffensive. Now this isn't necessarily a bad thing,
but they don't really say anything to Yarn. Bulbasaur is the basic, quintessential idea of a starter,
so it makes sense it's the first pokemon in the 'Dex. Yarn does like the pretty flowers though.

Charmander line: Yarn doesn't really understand why everyone says the Charmander line is overrated.
Since everyone hates Charizard, it has technically become underrated by definition. Yarn thinks the Charmander line is alright, though.

Blastoise line: The first two are somewhat forgettable, but Blastoise makes up for it by having two horrifying water cannons of doom on its back. The mega evolution is even crazier, too, featuring two hand cannons and something you'd expect to find on a warship. Yarn is surprised it doesn't have scoliosis.

Chikorita line: Chikorita is a cuter clone of Bulbasaur in Yarn's eyes. The first evolution is solid green,
the last evolution has a flower somewhere on it. Yarn is confused about the last evolution's name,
though. Meganium? Sounds like the name of a world-eating leviathan, not a friendly flower dino.

Cyndaquil line: The first one is a grill, the second one has a mohawk, the third one has a designer jacket with a fire collar. Yarn thinks it's almost like it can't decide on where its fire is.

Totodile line: The first one is so adorable, and the last one is cool. Yarn isn't sure about the second one though. It's like some weird mutated uncanny valley mixture of the two elements, but neither of them show. Dear trainers, please evolve your Croconaw as soon as you can. Yarn implores you.

Treecko line: Sceptile was really cool in the anime. It's Yarn's least favorite of the Gen 3 starters,
but that's okay because he likes them all. Overall pretty nice generation.

Torchic line: Yarn likes it because of the easy KFC jokes. The design of Blaziken is pretty nice, and it's good in Pokken. But why? Why on Arceus's green earth is Combusken shaped so phallically? Why? Who in Nintendo designed Combusken? Who said it was okay? Who made a sprite and put it inot the game thinking, "Wow, this looks totally normal in a kid's video game." It is shaped like an actual schlong. Who designed it? Yarn refuses to believe it's real.

Mudkip line: The meme was good.

Turtwig line: The idea of an entire continent on a turtle's back is actually really creative. Sounds like some sort of mythical D&D creature. Overall really cute, but a somewhat awkward middle evolution as usual.

Chimichar line: Another fire-fighting starter? Yarn sure hopes this doesn't become a trend. It's an average starter to Yarn.

Piplup line: Yarn isn't really a fan of the Piplup line. Piplup is cute, and then it gets progressively worse.
The steel/water typing is pretty good, and so is the idea of a literal emperor penguin, but there isn't much else other than that.

Snivy line: Snivy must be pretty strong if it beat a Pikachu that is way past level 100 in the anime. Nice one, writers. Serperior is pretty, though.

Tepig line: Oh wow, another fire/fighting starter! Yarn sure hopes this is just a coincidence. Also, Pignite is really ugly. Like, twelve times worse than Croconaw. What's with starters and ugly middle evolutions? But, to be honest, shiny Emboar has a really nice color scheme.

Oshawott line: The best starter of Gen 5 in Yarn's opinion. The middle evolution finally isn't disgusting, too!

                            Chespin line: Don't evolve it.

                            Fennekin line: Don't pick it

                            Froakie line: Pick it.

Rowlet line: Simplistic design, cute, perfect symmetry, best middle evolution, best final evolution, best starter. Yarn is team Rowlet for a reason.

                            Litten line: It's edgy.

Popplio line: If you hated on Popplio before Sun and Moon were released, you're some sort of monster. How could you? The poor thing just wanted to please you. It made itself into a clown and you still despised it. Why?

                            BONUS ROUND:

Pikachu line: Raichu is better in Yarn's opinion.

Eevee line: they're everywhere. watching. waiting.

                            aAAAAaaaAAAAAAAaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

                            THEY'RE EVERYWHERE
