If they ever make a live action movie, all the Pokemon should be played by people in costumes as well. I mean that movie has to have something special if it ever wants to compete with stuff like the Super Mario Bros movie.

and so, who would you cast as the male protagonists and other characters like the champion, elite four, professors etc..?
1) I really wouldn't want it to be of Japanese origin. Rather, it should be a Hollywood style adaptation in order to have any chance of decent quality. And even that's not a guarantee lol.

2) Don't let Ash and his Pikachu anywhere near the plot. Preferably, it should be set in a more manga-like universe. Actually, a live action adaptation of Pokémon Adventures, with evil gym leaders and E4 plotting to destroy the world, would fit much better than the 10 year old kid meeting two adults with a Meowth here and there over and over again.
completly agree. No ash Ketchum. Ash is an anime product, and would be too childish with him as the protagonist. Red need to be the hero, or the other game progatonists depeding what game/region they chose to base the movie.

The game has a interesting lore that can make a good movie. Dimensions, alternate universes, aliens, auras, etc.. Kanto and Johto is fighting the mafia, Hoenn is eco terrorism, Sinnoh is pure sci fi, Unova discuss ideologies and politics, and Kalos is about motarlity/imortality.

The best route is a dark tone, like that fan made pokemon apokelipse and the manga. A miniseries would be a good option too, cayse in a serious pokemon adapatation will need worldbuilding, and if everything were put in a movie will be too rushed and confusing.
