You can transfer Pokemon up to Sun/Moon all the way back from a gen 3 game+R/B/Y if you have that from the 3DS eshop. It's technically not trading though since it's a one-way trip; once they've moved up a generation, you can't send them back to previous one.

Can someone confirm that it is possible to catch a Politoed in Mali Garden during an SOS battle with Poliwag at night with Rain Dance? Cause it feels like I've been trying forever. TYIA

Sun/Moon can't trade with any older games. If you have X/Y yourself you can transfer them from your X/Y game to your Sun/Moon game. You can also trade with people on this site for the stuff you want.

Yes, but I think the chance is about 1%.
Also, it doesn't need to be Poliwag. Any Pokemon that are weather specific can be called by any Pokemon, as I once got a Poliwrath that was called by a Petilil.

Hey everyone. Just got Sun and I have a quick question. Do Tapu's breed? Are they legendaries?

The Tapus are classed as "island deities" though they have similarities with legendaries, such as being caught in a special location and being in the Undiscovered egg group. Their BSTs are also not too far off from what most legendary BSTs are. Another thing to notice is the Tapus are registered in the Pokedex with a green background (alongside Type: Null/Silvally and Ultra Beasts) meaning "special Pokemon" while the actual legendaries (such as Solgaleo and Lunala) have a lenticular/yellow background.

Speaking of breeding, they can't due to the aforementioned Undiscovered egg group classification.

Does anyone have any ideas for a 6th member to my team?

Incineroar Fire/Dark
Vikavolt Bug/Electric
Toxapex Poison/Water
Mimikyu Ghost/Fairy
Kommo-o Dragon/Fighting

Keep in mind I don't use legendaries if any are available and I only want to use 7th gen pokemon. I'm really not sure who to go with for this last spot. There really aren't any fast special attackers that don't overlap with the types I have. There isn't really anything fast for that matter. Even if I did overlap types, who are some of the best Pokemon available?

u hav a mimikyu, so that means that u hav reached ulaula island. use alolan nintales, it is a beast. it can be found in tapu village, in the grass. also, golisopod is a good idea. you can find him in many places. i dont know many, but i u r willing to train for a while, u can get a wimpod easily near the lush jungle area, the place near the water, just before the entrance.

I'm gonna start my game over to use this new team. I'll probably train a ninetales for competitive use but I just want to use 7th gen pokes for the playthrough. Golisopod sounds cool. Who would you say are the best 7th gen pokes that aren't legendaries or starters?

Ribombee or Bewear can be decent choices depending on the moveset. Or, judging by your types, a grass type like Lurantis would be great.

In addition to above suggestions, Tsareena can also make for a good choice if you want a Grass-type. She gets High Jump Kick, U-Turn, Trop Kick and even both the screen moves so she can be very useful on a team. You could get a Bounsweet from an in-game trade, or just easily catch one in the west section of Lush Jungle.

Araquanid is also a decent Pokemon, since its Water-type moves hit really hard thanks to its Water Bubble ability. Golisopod has a higher Attack stat, but it's your call on which Bug/Water line you want to use since both are great. Plus, Wimpod are usually harder to find and catch than a Dewpider would be.

Then there's your question on Oranguru. It's got decent special stats but not much else to write home about. Its Sun counterpart Passimian is a nice physical attacker as well.

It's an Easter Egg from Gen VI.

You can sell it back for it's price. It serves no other purpose.

Specifically I'm wondering, what exactly are the chances of a pokemon with 3 or more affection hearts surviving a fatal blow with 1 hp. Bulbapedia and Serebii both say the chance goes up as Affection goes up, but I can't seem to find out what the actual formula is for determining the chance anywhere. Surely somebody must've looked into this before me?

Well, if anyone has any links or info on what the specific formulas are for determining the chances of Affection effects, I'd be really grateful.

I'm assuming you bought the game on the Nintendo Eshop? If so, it should have took you to a download screen after purchase. Otherwise, the new icon for Pokemon Sun/Moon will appear on your Nintendo 3DS home screen and you can either download now and wait a bit or just put the 3DS in sleep mode and it will download that way.

If you got the physical copy, then there is no download lol.

Does anyone have any ideas for a 6th member to my team?
My team has the following Pokémons:

Alola Ninetales ( snow warning strategy)
Mimikyu (semi-tank)
Metagross (tank)
Garchomp (physical sweeper)
Espeon (special sweeper)

The Pokémon needs to be from the Alola Pokédex. The team is for the 2017 International Challenge April.
But I just don't know which Pokémon would fit in their. I first thought to use Xurkitree. But, I'm not so sure about it now. Also, my team has a weakness for ghost type. I know this, but I really want to use my shiny Metagross and espeon, they have both the right nature and ability. And Mimikyu came a lot to the rescue in the previous challenge. My team is lacking a wall , in my previous team it was Toxapex, but it didn't well in the previous challenge. It is good in single battles, but not in doubles.
Another question would be which item I would give them, for Metagross it's Assault Vest, but who I'm going to give the Focus Sash? Who gets the Live Orb? Who gets a Z-crystal?

Thanks for the help.

I don't know why, but recently(the past couple months I think) my copy of Pokemon Sun crashes when I try to do an online battle on the Battle Spot.
It doesn't matter what format or whether or not legendaries and such are allowed, and I don't think it matters whether I use a battle box or my party or a rental team. Any time I try to do a battle on the Battle Spot, it's almost guaranteed that my game will crash after the battle starts but before any mons get sent out.(I say "almost" because on a rare occasion, it actually won't crash.)
Similarly, my game has a small chance of crashing when I battle against my sister(using quicklink). More often than not, things work fine, but there's still a time every so often when it crashes, whether the battle is just starting or several turns have already gone by.
There are no crashes with any other battles ingame, and teaming up in the Battle Tree has yet to yield a crash.
I use a digital copy of Pokemon Sun on a 2DS. The 2DS is pretty much up to date, and so is the copy of Sun. I have not modified any save data(nor do I even have a method to).
Does this happen to anyone else? Does anyone know what can be done about this?
Thanks in advance. Any input and/or help is appreciated. ^^

Hey

I finished the main story line a while back. I really enjoyed the game but now I'm at a point where I don't know what I can do. This is the first Pokémon game I've played so far.

Can anyone suggest any fun things to do at this point?

Is there a point in collecting Shinys?

Also I've noticed people streaming Wonder trade. Can anyone tell me what that is?

Thanks

As far as I know, there is a postgame quest of catching all the Ultra Beasts where Looker gives you a 1 million Pokedollars reward. There's also some postgame locations on Poni Island to train at, daily rematches against Morimoto in Heahea City's Game Freak HQ, and you can also breed competitive teams to challenge the Battle Tree with. You can also rematch the Elite Four and battle against a random trainer who is challenging for your Champion title.

Collecting shinies is something a player can dedicate time to if they are interested in it. Be mindful that you'll need to get a long SOS chain going if you want a chance of shinies or Pokemon with hidden abilities/perfect IVs showing up.

Wonder Trade is trading with a random person, and receiving a Pokemon that they traded in exchange for yours.

Thanks for the reply

Can you please elaborate on the SOS chains? What is a perfect IV and how can you tell if a Pokémon has any hidden abilities?

Also, are Shinys viable for competitive play?
