There has been a few posts about this subject before, most noticeably these two:

My main question is how to makes the changes to make use of cries for the limbo slots. These two threads does a good job telling you what to do, but they fail on the how to do it. How should the new data look like (or the old one for that matter)? Where is the pointer to change in Emerald? Why does the "Repoint the table at:" part of the first link have what appears to be completely different spots between Emerald and Fire Red (Emerald as a bunch of data, but Fire Red has a lot of 00)?

What I'm basically asking for is a tutorial on getting this to work, and to assign/redirect cries to the limbo slots once done.

For what it's worth this (like a lot of other things ROM hacks often want to do) is significantly easier with a decomp. I'm not enormously inclined to try and improve my old tutorial when I want people to start using pokeruby/pokeemerald.

The table mapping species IDs to cry IDs only covers the Hoenn Pokémon because they're the ones whose species IDs don't map simply to their cry IDs. The first 251 Pokémon and their cries are both in National Pokédex order, so the cry ID is the same as the species ID (which is the same as the National Pokédex number minus one); after that the limbo slots are hardcoded to use the cry of Unown. When following the linked tutorials, you need to add this data to the repointed table.
The rival in Red and Blue is called Green. Gary is some character from a lame cartoon.
