I do have time! No inspiration, though, so I decided to start working on the back and shiny sprites. I only did Foaleaf, but atleast I did something.

I made two new dexes, one for backsprites, and one for shiny sprites.

Mind if I give some feedback on your Fakedex? :>

When it comes to Fakemon designing, your biggest strength is making them feel as if they are actual Pokémon. I see too much of the whole Dark/Psychic wolves or the Steel/Dragon dinosaurs, but your ideas, like Gloomouton and Mynx, is something that I would love to see in the Pokémon games. My favourite Fakemon of yours is Cradapt. I like the idea of a hermit crab changing forms depending on the location; it kind of reminds me of how hermit crabs change shells from time to time.

Your biggest flaw with your Fakedex is the body shape of most of these Fakemon. I know that sounds odd, presuming your making this for fun, but to me, the body shape of a character is always essential. For example, Cryorse and Frostallion share similar body shapes. If we were to cover them up with a silhouette, we would sort of have trouble figuring it out. If your Fakemon had more diverse body shapes, it would be easier to identify with them more.

Otherwise, this is a nice Fakedex you got there. Keep up the good work.

Thanks! It's not like I don't want to design Monstorously cool Dark/Psychic wolves, it's just that those are really hard to make haha. I do try to emulate the pokémon style, and it works good enough for me.

That's a really interesting thing you say about Cradapt, as the plan atm is to have it evolve depending on it's location, and stay in that form for the remainder of the game. But now I'm thinking I might make it's form change depending on the location, instead of the location of evolution.

I don't mind at all! Critism really helpes shows me where to improve.

I know what you're talking about, and it's something I try to improve myself on, but it's hard. Most of fakes in a evolutionary line look a little too similar to be official designs, and that's something I struggle with a lot, creating significant differences between evolutions. It's especially clear in fakes like Robynode and Hoodlum, Typhlodig and Typhelmet, and Poisaur and Tyranide. The only ones meant to look quite similar are Cryorse and Frostallion, as they're based on Ponyta and Rapidash, as Rapidash just looks like a cooler Ponyta.

When I found this thread, I remembered, that a long time, ago, I wanted to do something like this too! So, should I make a thread like this now, or will people think I'm copying you if I do?

By the way, these are great sprites! I am going to check on this thread every day to see new Fakemon! I also love how none of them look like already existing Pokemon!

There's nothing original about starting a fake dex, so go ahead and make one. As long as you don't make sprites that are to similar to mine, or anyones elses for that matter, but that's kinda common sense. I actually would love for some more people that make original fakemon, instead of working on the 64x64 resources.

Some of them are really based on existing ones, like Gloumouton or Swiftog are really based on Mareep or Typhlosion, but I try to make them a little bit unique, but the references are clearly visible.

Kinglet looks awesome! Any idea when this game/beta will be released? Super keen on trying out some of these new evolutions for existing Pokemon, and I have my eye on a few of your Fakemon that I can't wait to catch too.

Thanks! I think Kinglet is one of my favourite designs. There's a playable version that I can send you if you want, altough it doesn't have that many fakemon included in it. I plan on working on it some more once I have done most of the backsprites.

Two new sprites, they're the last non-legendaries I planned on doing, I may add another line of sprites if I feel like it, depending on how much I feel like it.

Here are Octurf and Miraken




Miraken is based on desert mirages, and makes those to lure it's prey. Octurf is based on Miraken, and the fact that I needed a pre-evo.

Also, this thread passed the 3.000 views, on which I'm quite proud, so, well, that's something, haha.

Post a team made up of these fakemon and give me a trainer name, and I'll put it in the game if it isn't too ludacris. You may use non- starter, non-legendary existing pokemon too, and try to be diverse, or stick to theme. Submit as many as you want, it'll make this thread a little more interactive.

I like how most of your designs are creative and easily distinguishable. Some of them do lack a bit of personality but that can be fixed by adding some more detail especially the face or make their shape something else than rounded.

To answer your question about what my team would be, those are my favourites:

Oh yeah a tip: maybe ask people to add a description for their trainer with a history and outward appearance?

Im gonna name the a couple of them so you can hopefully see the pattern:

Swiftog - This one stands out immediately it just looks awkward and flat to me. The arms and legs don't suit the shape of the body and the long body makes it look bland. The face is...too standard I guess nothing memorable in the design besides the spikes but they're placed poorly (because of the shape of the body).

Mattle - The face just looks wrong, not pokemon like. And it's merely a couple of rounded up squares that form an awkward shape, again. The horns are inverted on purpose but I think it would look better with standard horns.

Kamaisickle - it's Swiftog all over again. I would look into the shape of the head and eyes for this one.

Altocuran - Make the wool come from behind of it's neck, it would make the position of the head look more natural.

Puffuin - I don't think it can stand on it's feet with that big of head (beak).

Puffteui - Rounded arms, don't suit it and are not interesting.

Tarmount - The eyes.

You get the point, to sum up, you should look into proportions ask yourself how would that pokemon handle itself in the pokemon world (walk,run,swim..). Would it look out of place? Why?
And it might be hypocritical to say all of the above as most of my fakemon don't even look similar to pokemon in the slightest way, but it's much easier to give criticism on someone else's work than on your own as most of the times you don't see your own mistakes, but that's why we are here to help each other.

With that said, the majority of your fakemon are good and naming the good things would definitely take me much longer than naming the bad things.
I hope it didn't come off too harsh and I think if you practice the things I mentioned, your fakedex would be even better, and that's the only thing that matters.

I'll do something about the arms, because you gave me a better idea for the shape, but I don't plan on changing it that much. Mattle is one of my least favourite designs, which is a bummer because I like stellos. It's definitly up for a redesign. It's just hard to figure out what I want with him, and I don't just want to remove him because I like the pun so much.

Kamaisickle - it's Swiftog all over again. I would look into the shape of the head and eyes for this one. You convinced me to plan a redo of Kamaisickle. I like the design I made for Weasickle, but his whole design makes him a little derpy, not what you expect as an evolution.

Altocuran - Make the wool come from behind of it's neck, it would make the position of the head look more natural. I'll see what I can do

Puffuin - I don't think it can stand on it's feet with that big of head (beak). I'll probably redo this one too, it may be a little big indeed.

Puffteui - Rounded arms, don't suit it and are not interesting. The round arms are a conscious design choice, I quite like them to be honest. I think this is another case of personal preference

Oh I love it when people disagree it provides a healthy conversation, if we all would agree on everything communication would be useless and boring

I still don't quite understand why you would give Puffteui round arms, I would just make them penguin like or give him fingers or at least make them longer, unless you want to limit his movepool on purpose

I love what you did with Miraken it has 2 faces actually if you look closely, one evil with the mustache and one smiling if you make the mustache his eyes and ignore the upper part, clever design.

Loving the rename of the gallery, MI. The new Halbird looks brilliant. The back sprite of Miraken + the shiny version are fantastic, too!

Thanks. I thought I should have a quirky gallery name too, instead of a boring one haha.

New sprite, it's a legendary, meaning there will be only one of it catchable in the game and no other trainers will have it. I plan for him to be quite early game, though.

New legendary. It's Atnucli, the pokesaint of Humor, madness and trickery. Who guesses what the thought behind it's name is get's an important npc named after them.

I tried for so long but I came up short.

Both new legendaries look pretty wicked man! Funky robot looking Fakemon is a nice touch, there aren't that many robot looking Pokemon at all. I really like the face on Atnucli, too, it's really well done with the colours and the shading.

New legendary. It's the Moon pokemon, God of tidal forces, Torthadal. He's a rock and water type pokemon, that lives in a temple, hidden on the bottom of the sea. If Pokemon Eclipse would be two different games, he would be one of the version legendaries.

I'm working on some legendaries right now, but I want to start fixing up some older sprites. I'm currently working on Marblock. If anyone has a suggestion on which ones to fix up next, I will try to get those done as fast as possible.

On another note, I'm entering my 14th week of being sick, nothing life-threathing, so don't worry, but I'm starting to really get behind on most of my schoolwork, my research paper, and my band and social life kinda start falling apart. I am prioritising those. Updates 'll probably be smaller and less frequent, but if I don't update in a while, you know why that is.

I redesigned Eskisnow, because I really, really hated that sprite. I'll do Frosterror too, but it kinda depends on how I'm doing, as shown by last post.

It's called An Ethics Lesson because I wanted my gallery to have a quirky name based on my username too :3 Not the best reasoning, I know, but there is some connection to my username.
