There is a cure, switch to another browser e.g. Firefox. Chrome is spyware (Google gets to know everything about your browsing habits and therefore makes profile about you) so it should be avoided anyway.

if he wants to use Chrome, then let him use it.

Firefox is just as much with Spyware as Chrome is as well (based on your loose definition) because I'm very certain Mozilla collects data as well. And if you try to tell me that you can disable that, well guess what: you can turn off any data collection in Chrome as well.

Well, if you don't know what your phone's RAM is or how many background apps there are opened, then we can't really deduce the cause of your problem any further, I'm afraid. :/
