I was expecting Iris to have less votes...everyone seems to hate her. She's my favourite though. Spheal with it.

Nothing wrong with liking Iris. In fact, I like her more than Misty but without the hypocritical "You're such a kid" crap that gets old really quick.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I like Iris better than Misty, but I can say that she definitely made an adequate successor compared to her predecessors.

Well, with Misty slated to return for at least two Episodes, we shall see how they treat her after all these years and whether or not this has any impact on her popularity. Right now the poll is tied but these Episodes might change things drastically. I just have a bad feeling about her return though because if they botch it, TPC may never recover lol.

Keep voting and voicing your opinions folks. 30 votes is a start but I know there are more of you out there with a strong opinion on this. Serena was my choice, what is yours?

Eh, I'm not too concerned. Given that they gave her a Mega Gyarados, I doubt they'll ruin her as a character if that's what you're implying. And besides, if they didn't ruin Charizard when he returned to the fold back in Best Wishes, they certainly won't ruin Misty either. And in any case, I'm concerned more with whether she'll pursue her Water Pokemon Master goal again and not be forced back to the gym. As long as they don't do that, I'm content (and I'm pretty sure they won't depict her like May, Dawn, or Serena).

Thing is the odds are stacked in favor of her returning to the Gym. That's why I'd love for Clemont to return with Clembot. Misty would see it and it would give her an out with regards of having to be there 24/7 as Gym Leader. Speaking of the performer girls, I'm beginning to wonder if the writers aren't secretly plotting to turn Lana into one at some point considering she has a "performer" Pokemon. That's why when I saw Episode 40 weeks ago, I initially thought one of the past performers like Serena or someone else was going to come back. Now that I think about it more and more, I wouldn't be shocked if Lana decides to be one while traveling the world meeting lots of Water Pokemon.

Anyways, keep the votes coming folks. I know there are more May fans out there so come and vote for your gal(she really needs it...).

To be fair, the odds were also stacked in favor of Charizard returning to Charcific Valley back in Best Wishes when he made his reappearance, yet we all know that didn't happen, that he actually returned to Ash's group permanently, so we can't simply say that just because it happened in the past, that automatically means they'll do it again.

And besides, I'm pretty sure if they wanted to hint that Misty was going to go back to the gym, they'd specifically mention her being a gym leader, not a Water Pokemon specialist (which was her goal before her sisters intervened). And let's not forget that her prior Hoso, the one with Luvdisc, Daisy actually showed surprising competence as a trainer and even spearheaded an operation to save their Luvdisc from Cassidy and Butch, meaning if anyone is capable of being a competent Gym Leader in Misty's stead, it's Daisy.

And either way, I think the fact that they're doing this amount of teasing right now suggests that Misty and Brock's return is definitely going to be far more than just your standard character return cameo, even if not a permanent return.

As far as Lana, maybe she will, maybe she won't.

The heavy promotion and teasing is just because they're the two original travelling partners and because of their popularity, I can't see either of them returning permanently. It's more likely to be just the two Kanto episodes.

Yeah... I doubt it's just because they were the two original travelling partners. The promotion is too much even regarding it being te original two partners, and especially too much for it to be just for two episodes. They didn't make even close to that big of a deal when she returned in AG twice, not even during Battle Frontier, and on that note, they certainly didn't make that big of a deal about Ash returning to Kanto of all places during that time, despite it not only being his home region, but also being close to the 10th anniversary of the franchise at least, if not the anime itself (which had Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon, and say what you will about it's flaws, that special had far more respect to the series roots than M20 did).

Heck, Charizard was one of the most well-received Pokemon in Ash's original team, yet when he came back in Best Wishes, they didn't go THIS far to promote him, despite it actually being quite a while since AG that he appeared.

That's why I'm having doubts about it simply being that. If they were to make a big fanfare especially regarding their being original cast members, why didn't they make that kind of fanfare back in AG? Or even when Charizard came back in Best Wishes?

I can't say anything about how Misty's returns in AG and Charizard in Best Wishes were advertised because I wasn't following the show then and I simply don't know, but compared to when AG and Best Wishes originally aired, social media is a huge deal. We find out about things like this online a lot quicker than we used to, and there's buzz about what happened in the most recent episode or what's revealed to be happening on Pokémon websites, YouTube, and Twitter as soon as it's found out. That and there's a lot more of a market for attracting to fans from the beginning with nostalgia now than there was back then. I think if they were coming back on a permanent or recurring basis following the two episodes we know of it would be an even bigger deal.

I do know that social media definitely was about as big as today when Charizard got his return in Best Wishes, and the only time they seemed to even remotely hint at him returning was with those TV Game Guides. And even there, they didn't do much more than just announce the title and show him as a Charmander at most. https://bulbanews.bulbagarden.net/wiki/TV-Game_magazine_revealed_116th_Best_Wishes_episode_title

As far as AG, they may not have had Twitter and Tumblr, or Instagram for that matter, but they definitely had standard blogs (heck, Mayumi Iizuka even maintained her own blog during that time, as did Takeshi Shudo) and they most certainly had YouTube, Facebook, and Myspace as well. And besides which, they would have at least teased it in offline publications as well, like how they marketed various Mythical Pokémon when they are to receive their formal debut, like with, say, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus, for example. If they were going to treat Misty returning at all as a big deal and have it be just two episodes, they would have done it back then as well. Before now, the closest she EVER got to a hint at returning of this level was back when Mayumi Iizuka implied in her blog around the show's 10th anniversary that she's coming back, and even that ultimately never happened.

Either way, like I said earlier, my favorite, or the closest I have to one anyways, is Misty since Kanto and nothing's going to change that (unless one of the writers pulls a fast swerve and exposes development stuff that indicate she's based on some really evil people like Lucas and how he based the Rebels and the Vietcong that is).

Woah there.... was going great until the very end. Misty isn't based on anything "Evil" or controversial in nature. She's just a typical anime character with an extreme inferiority complex that has mellowed over the years(she still has a temper but she doesn't explode like she used to). Lets ignore the whole Star Wars controversies and stick to Pokemon shall we?

I agree with you that something is up. Granted the Internet has rapidly developed or matured since Misty was last in the Anime(which may explain the hype or reaction to her returning this time around) but the manner in which they're promoting this screams to something larger than just 2 Episodes. Either she and/or Brock will be returning in future Episodes or they might be returning on a daily basis(which would be a real shocker frankly).

Also, I got this gut feeling that the performers(May, Dawn and Serena) will be making cameo appearances sometime soon in a Performer theme arc of some sort(say a Wallace Cup in a new land to expand Pokemon Contests?). Serena for sure is coming back at some point(she's too popular not to) but it might perk people's ears up if May and Dawn were included too(heck lets throw ORAS characters in there as well with Lisia and Chaz).

Oh, don't worry, I was pretty sure Misty wasn't based on anyone evil, unlike the Rebels. And I wasn't trying to comment negatively on her at all. Far from it, I was saying I'm very loyal to Misty, and there's very little chance at actually losing loyalty, and even the one thing that might cause me to lose loyalty is so remote it wouldn't even exist. And yeah, even though I fully want them to return (well, Misty moreso than Brock, but I'm willing to let him return if 1., he gets a lot of focus regarding his Pokémon Doctor thing so he doesn't seem like he's stagnating his goal like with his prior goal of Breeder, and 2., they either get rid of his Quagmire-esque traits, or at the very least tone them down significantly.), I'd be very surprised if they actually do return on a full-time basis, but I am definitely sure from the amount of teasing that, temporary return or returning full-time, that it's most likely going to be far more than those two episodes.

They'll only bring Serena back if they manage to do a Wallace Cup-style contest so she'd have a reason besides Ash to go to Alola. As far as Dawn, again, only if they have a Wallace Cup-style contest (We don't want a repeat of her rather pointless cameo in BW). May, I really don't see her coming back thanks to KAORI basically retiring from voice acting and essentially pulling a Hillary Duff by becoming a singer.

I think if Brock and Misty were returning to travel with Ash again that would have been revealed also and it would reek of desperation for garnering more attention to the series and attracting more adult viewers that watched when they were younger. I can't see the production team bringing back them or any other classic characters for anymore than a 1-2 maybe a couple more episode appearance in SM because it would be denying this series having it's own identity and there's already a sizeable established cast, but perhaps a reboot of the original series is in consideration after SM ends.

All we know right now is the Alola gang is travelling to Kanto and Ash will reunite with Misty and Brock for two episodes. Maybe they or Ash's later companions will be back again in the future and we'll find out later when the airdate for their next episode(s) get closer. Right now we know what we know and Brock and Misty's guest starring is getting publicized because it's a big deal and it's something that's exciting for most long-time fans.

Right now we know what we know and Brock and Misty's guest starring is getting publicized because it's a big deal and it's something that's exciting for most long-time fans.

It was also just as much of a big deal when Misty returned for the beginning of Battle Frontier, and also just as much of a big deal when Charizard returned for Best Wishes. Heck, Ash even doing the Battle Frontier in Kanto of all places, and close to the franchise's 10 year anniversary no less, would have been just as big of a deal as this. Last I checked, they didn't get much press especially compared to right now. Heck, Dawn wasn't even ANNOUNCED when she made her reappearance in Best Wishes (and believe me, if they had announced Dawn reappearing, we would have known a while back via Bulbanews). So no, I'm definitely sure their appearance is going to be big. They had plenty of opportunities to make a highlight, including, I should add, with Battle Frontier where Ash was travelling through Kanto for the titular event, yet they had a lot of missed opportunities to actually make a big deal of it, why make a big deal now?

Besides, them even changing the overall nature of the show to be a Yokai-Watch clone with SM in the first place reeked of desperation anyways, so that shouldn't be a reason to dismiss this as reeking of desperation especially when this at least actually pays respect to the original series far more than M20 did.

Now, I'm not saying that Misty and Brock are permanently returning, because we have no real knowledge yet. Even with the huge amounts of teasing, it could be temporary. The only thing I can definitely say for sure, however, is that the amount of promotion they're giving for them is definitely FAR more than just for two episodes (they didn't do this level of promotion when Misty returned for the Mirage Kingdom arc. They didn't do it for when Misty reappeared at the start of Battle Frontier, they didn't do it at this level with the Pokemon 10th Anniversary Special, they didn't do it to this level with May's return for the Wallace Cup, they certainly didn't do this at all with Dawn, heck, they didn't even do that with Charizard when he returned late in Best Wishes, and that was the time they outright averted him returning to Charcific Valley. Why give this amount of promotion if they were only going to appear for two episodes, when they didn't do that the prior times they appeared, even in Battle Frontier or the 10th Anniversary Special, which would be the closest comparisons to this?).

Oh, and BTW, some more teaser have been released via Oh Oha Aniki!: One has Misty pulling Brock by the ear, the other has Jigglypuff singing (yep, Jigglypuff's back, marks the first time it appeared since AG with that Whismur). Another image has Ash, Pikachu, and Misty reuniting with Bulbasaur (well, kind of regarding Misty, since she's partially cut out of the shot). The last one has that black guy riding a Charizard while pursuing a Rapidash. Also, there's a closeup of Bulbasaur looking giddy (presumably seeing Ash for the first time in a while) and also what's presumably a flashback to Ash meeting Larvitar, implying that we might get a chance to see him soon. And a new clip of Brock has been released that matches up with the storyboard art that was posted on Tumblr. Also, it's made clear that the scene with Misty and several hearts were from Ash's recollection of her.

Misty, May and Dawn are my favorites. Mallow and Lana are pretty good too. Iris, Serena and lillie are so bad that i don't even consider them as main female companions.

A bit of an update.

My top girl's still Misty, but Iris seems to be taking competition for second place with Lillie (not to mention Lana if she were to count).

And the reason why Lillie qualifies as one of my top girls is the fact that she's actually got pretty good natural development in terms of character, and actually comes across as a lot more believeable and sympathetic (certainly moreso than May. In fact, if they had used the kind of character development Lillie got for May from the get-go instead of shoe-horning a completely random hate for Pokémon despite her profession of Pokémon Trainer, not to mention her background as the daughter of a Gym Leader, pretty much requiring her to not hate them, I'd be a bit more tolerant of May). There's also the fact that we might get to see her entering the badge-collecting quest in the near future, which definitely would be a positive and a shake-up considering we never got an actual badge-collecting female trainer in the main cast before.

Mine is Dawn, because

-I liked her determination and confidence.

-She's creative, and her combinations and techniques for her Pokemon, could even help a much more experienced trainer or coordinator.

-Her development was awesome, she went from barely taking a loss to using it to do so much more and to make her a better coordinator. The the development Dawn has is cleverly done and realistic.

-She's very optimistic and kind. She helped Maylene regain her confidence as a gym leader.
And she put on a performance for Ash and his Pokemon, when they were feeling down.
When others are feeling sad, upset and down, she tries her best to make them feel better and cheer them up.
And he isn't hesitant to help others like when she battled Maylene.

-And I like her brilliant bond with Ash and it was great how her intensity matched Ash's

Hard to say if Misty or Dawn was "better" imo, as I kind of like them for different reasons. Both were very enjoyable on their own and less uber dependent on Ash to be the main focus and hero (from what I remember watching these seasons in the show, it's been a while).
