Lumiere the Chandelure (Lumiere is French for "light," and is the name of the Candelabra from Beauty and the Beast)
Kazan the Typhlosion (Kazan is Japanese for "volcano." I gave this name to my shiny Typhlosion)
Bojack the Mudsdale (The nickname is based off the show Bojack Horseman. duh.)
Leif the Sceptile (Leif is a male name and a corruption/homonym of Leaf. The name Leif also means "Heir" or "descendant.")
Rafiki the Infernape (Named after the character from The Lion King)
Amethyst the Sableye (It's fond of gems, and this particular gemstone matches its color very closely. Also, "ame" means "soul" or "spirit" in old French.)
Papercut the Kartana (It's a Pokemon with a paper-like body that also has swords for hands. What else would you name it?)
Anomaly the Porygon-Z (An anomaly is something that is abnormal. Porygon-Z is based on the idea that the Dubious Disc, filled with malicious software, corrupted Porygon2 and it had caused major
errors.)
Tango the Roserade (Because in many forms of media, Tango dancers are sometimes depicted holding roses in their mouths.)

Layla the Charizard (literally no reason)
Liu the Lucario (sounded similar to Lucario)

The pokemon nicknames on my team are based on their slot positions, regardless of whether it makes sense for that pokemon in that specific game or not.

The 1st slot pokemon is always named Laptop, 2nd slot is Smartphone, 3rd slot is Toolbox, etc.

I haven't nicknamed a Pokémon in ages, mostly because I could never come up with a wide range of nicknames. I usually just gave them names like Bob or Rick.

Sometimes it's an inside joke, sometimes it's a reference, and sometimes it's a name I simply see fit.

For example...

I'm the kind of guy who names their Tsareena "H Mayonnaise" because of something my friend said.

I named my Pinsir "Boomer" and my Heracross "Gravity" as a reference to Boomerang Kuwanger and Gravity Beetle from the Mega Man X series.

I named my Alolan Persian "Chi-Chi" after my cat.

But when I run out of nicknames, I just go with whatever. For example, I named my Silvally "Big Whoopsie" due to Type: Null being involved in some unforeseen accidents...and I wasn't cultured enough to find a good reference.
