Johto in GSC vs Johto in HGSS

It's time y'all.

Which version of Johto was your favourite to play through and explore? :)

HGSS is my favorite because the graphics were better, Pokemon following you was so cute, and I also like the Pokeathlon Dome which was added for the HGSS

HG/SS was my only experience with Johto, so I hand it to that by default. Sure, it still suffers the same issues Johto was known for but has the great graphics to make up for it.

Ugh it's hard. GSC were classics that I've replayed so so many times because they're so fun, but HGSS had a lot of features and felt complete as Pokémon games. I didn't like how sluggish the PC box and animations went though. =( gonna say Crystal though....and not just because of nostalgia. It is a truly amazing game. <3

I really like both.

I'm leaning towards Crystal. Some of the best parts of HGSS are the story elements that Crystal introduced like the extreme speed Dratini and increasing Suicune's role. Still I think Crystal handles Suicune's story the best, and getting the mystery egg and now the amazing GS ball plot with Celebi really make me want to give the edge to Crystal. Then you have the increased odds for shiny parents breeding shiny offspring, free ha abilities and neat glitches. I do like HGSS, its lovely that Pokemon can follow you and I love having Cameron the photographer there for photo shoots with my Pokemon. I also think the increased role of the Kimono girls was a lovely story detail. They added the safari zone we were missing too. HGSS vs Crystal almost feel like two diffent games, and I like both. HGSS's Johto is a more flamboyant Johto like ORAS is to Hoenn, whereas the original is more peaceful and subtle. I do enjoy the quaint, cozy feel of the originals a bit more, but will play both.

Better parts of HG/SS: Safari Zone, graphics, Pokeathelon, easier to find legendary beasts, Goldenrod Department Store lottery, Blackthorn Move Relearner, and more Apricorn trees.

Better parts of GSC: music, Game Corner casino games, Eusine plotline in Crystal (I don't know what happened to him after you catch Suicune in the remakes), being able to rebattle the trainers on the SS Aqua, your mom changing the Pokegear clock for you for daylight saving time, and being able to delete NPC trainers from your Pokegear phonebook.

I know why the first two things I mentioned about being better in GSC were changed for the remakes, but I don't know why Game Freak changed the other stuff when it was best the way it had been before.

HG/SS is definitely better in the graphic aspects and pretty much everything else; however, I feel like GSC represents the second generation better, just like RSE represents the third generation better than OR/AS.

GSC Johto is more quaint, peaceful and subtle too like VisionofMilotic said and HGSS Johto is more up to date and has following pokemon which is a really neat feature + battle frontier and safari zone and all kinds of cool new and remade stuff that makes it a fantastic remake but lacks the retro, homely quality that can't be replicated and lacks the game corner slots and coin purchasing, instead replacing it with Voltorb Flip, which is disgusting and infuriating

HGSS made Kanto look ten times better with all the colour and detail. I really love how all the cities look in those games.

I'm definitely team GSC!

HGSS didn't really feel like the Johto I fell in love with honestly :(

GSC has a better 'comfiness' factor, HGSS has more of a personality to towns.
