Yeah, we can def have smaller mugshots. You can get a lot done in small spaces. :D

    I really like Nina's idea, it would make the game feel so much more immersive when we see key character's expressions. I know it's very RPG style but I think it could work rather well, especially if we use the small portraits like FBI linked. I never liked the huge ones anyway, especially when they weren't boxed. It looked far too out of place for me.

    This isn't anything final because it's just a quick splice and test for some faces, but here's in general what we're thinking of. The plan is to have the eyebrows, eyes, and mouths separate on layers so you can do any combination of them to get expressions.


    probably not the ? in there but it was just fun

    EDIT:

    Animation I made, even though I know it would probably be pretty complex to have something like that. Just playing around. I'm not entirely sure I'd like them, rather than a static image. Is is possible to make it animate then stop when the text is finished drawing?

    One of the science tools on the PokePad could be given to you after you get the National Dex. Then, it can tell you about Pokemon outbreaks happening in the region.
    You could be helping your mother with her professor stuff with this. :)

      Those mugshots are amazing. We need them. I don't know about the animation either, it would clearly look odd if they were talking whilst the text had stopped. I think we should keep it simple and change only the expressions. Static would be easier and, in my opinion, look better. Far less distracting too.

        Here is a random idea I didn't know where to post:

        Surfing sucks because it's too slow and there is a long animation every time you want to surf, yet somehow getting off is damn quick. So since we have so much water, I propose we make the following changes:
        • 2x surf speed
        • The first time you surf on a map you get the "Do you want to Surf?" question (or you must go into the bag and use the item)
        • Every subsequent time all you do is walk into the water (like you do to get off) and you'll hop right onto Lapras's back. Bonus points if Lapras sticks around as an overworld on the map (I'll do it as part of Follow Me, but no promises)
        This would also allow the mappers to intersperse the long water routes with small fragments of land without annoying the hell out of the player.

        Thoughts?

          That would be really good if we could have Lapras wait at the water's edge for the player to come back. Obviously it would follow them as far as it could then remain there until they return, change map, or go to an entirely different body of water.

            I was thinking it would just teleport to the next body of water on the map, and it would stick around in the nearest body of water so you don't have to summon it again. Basically for every piece of water on the map, it would be at the piece of shore you're closest to. That isn't really a priority feature though.

              <60 base init = 1x. Surf speed
              60-100 base init= 2x surf speed

              If you have multiple surf Pokemon in the party, the speed of the first one in the party is chosen.

              Surf isn't being done by the Pokemon in the party though, it's going to be a summoning item for Lapras.

                fr has this natively for various maps, pokémon mansion/tower and caves come to mind immediately. the problem would be getting the day/night differences, but even then it's simply checking a byte in RAM (wherever rtc was put) to discern time before displaying the image

                Nah location art is not hard at all, it's already in the game so we'd be able to expand on it.


                Also to add about surfing speeds, making Lapras go running speed seems to play the best (that is default speed). I tried bike and mach bike speed, but it becomes harder to navigate. So instead, I'd like to suggest a sprinting mechanism to the lapras, where you can press "b" while surfing to toggle different speeds on lapras (default, bike and mach speed).
