[Graphics] Need help creating a custom attack animation for Pokemon Emerald

It plays the animation of extremespeed over a scrolling ice background. At the end of the extremespeed animation (but before the background fades) I want to add explosion effects on the target.

I have the animation of Egg Bomb here which plays the explosion effects I want but I don't want the egg. If i try to cut the bytes up to just get the explosion it's all black. Also, I can't seem to find a way to merge these animations.
