The Pokécommunity Game Development staff team is proud to announce a game jam in the game development section for month of April 2019!

What is a game jam? A game jam is a long event where fan game developers come together to make a game over the specified amount of time. Usually there is a connecting theme to encourage creativity, and this event will have one! We will be having a competition at the end of the submission period along with a week to polish submitted projects, so do try to present your best work!

More details will be revealed at the end of the month; however, we want to reveal to you all the theme now so you can start planning your game - but no more than that. With that in mind, you are free to work solo or work in a group of up to four people. You may use any assets you want (so long as the original creator of said assets allow it). Any assets you made for your fangame project will become open source after the event. You are not allowed to begin work on the project, that is starting the coding, inputting tilesets, etc. until the event starts. You may start planning your game. We'll make a post and forum for project threads soon.

With that in mind, we want to reveal the theme is "Circular"! We intentionally kept the theme abstract so it's really up to your interpretation. Some ideas we thought it could include were a circular time progression, map, a never ending flash puzzle, a large puzzle featuring gen 3 strength boulders, featuring spherical Pokémon/fakemon! You can interpret the theme in whatever way you think would fit the theme! No interpretations are wrong, so whatever you think works, works!

The details regarding the exact dates, submission periods, the open source assets, process for submitting, and any other aspects of the event will be explained in our next post near the end of the month.

Happy planning and see you soon! <3
