Noella Character Creation

This is a simple and quick event allowing you to flex your creative muscles and populate a brand new Pokemon region with characters of your own creation. There's no need to sign-up to participate, just follow our Character Sheet template and use the information on the Noella Region we provide in order to create a cool and interesting character - just like if you were joining an RP. Completed characters will be featured in a special PokeCommunity Daily article. This even will run until the 31st of December so use your time wisely!

The Noella Region

The Noella region is located in the far north of the world, close enough to the pole that from the north of this roughly triangular region down, over half is perpetually covered in thick snow and ice. The lower segment is ecologically dominated by large pine forests and hilly, grassy prairies and even here it can snow. A vast mountain range runs up the left side of the region.

Because of the harsh climate of most of the region, the residents of Noella have had to make an effort to adapt. In most of the reason, people are almost always seen wearing thick woolen coats produced from the wool of the Wooloo and Mareep lines and protective boots, gloves and headwear. In the southern parts of the region, where the environment is a bit more giving, people still tend to dress warmly but it's more a matter of sweaters and jeans outside of snowy days.

Settlements in the harsh, icy north of Noella tend to be small and rural with very few large cities while in the south larger cities are somewhat more common. Culturally, the people of Noella have learned to be resilient and have strong morals, they place an extremely high importance on helping each other and sharing needed resources when necessary. To give someone a gift and expect nothing in return is considered the height of honour while refusing something someone offers you is considered one of the greatest social missteps you can make. Large, hearty family and community meals are common, especially in the more rural areas. In the big cities, especially in the south, the more traditional views are still prevalent but are much more lax by comparison as community support is much less necessary.

The region itself is populated by a greater number of Ice types than others, especially in the areas perpetually blanketed in ice themselves. To the people of Noella, Ice and Fire types both have historically and culturally been very important as have fluffy Pokemon like Wooloo. The former for their ability to function in the harsh climate and the latter categories for the important aid they provided to human populations.

Unlike in other regions, where it is common to receive your first Pokemon from a Professor - in Noella it is traditional for your first companion on your journey to be given as a gift by your parents or another close family member and more often than not, they are Pokemon that are well equipped to handle an icy and cold environment as opposed to more traditional options.

Cities and Towns

You're welcome to create your own city or town to house your character if you so choose, but to make life easier, we've created a handful already for your convenience.

Town's in Noella are named for flowers. As flowers are quite rare in the ecology of Noella, they are greatly appreciated for their beauty. The inhabitants of the region wanted their architecture to take the place of the largely absent flowers as beautiful scenery. This is both the origin of Noella's naming scheme as well as the reason why important buildings have extravagant, beautiful designs and why many in the region take great pride in the appearances of their home and local community.

Snowdrop City
Snow Drop City is the largest of the northern settlements and is eternally surrounded by ice and bathed in snow. Because of the year-long freezing temperatures, the city's streets and parks are decorated throughout by an ever-changing roster of ice sculptures. To make for easier living, the city has numerous underground walkways and large underground living complexes - both of which are highly insulated. Above ground, Snowdrop City is noteworthy for it's dark-coloured buildings that stand out starkly against all the white and the long ropes of budlights that decorate walkways and small roads to mark out a path.

Daffodil Town
Daffodil Town is a quaint village with a simple claim to fame: it is the southernmost, warmest location in Noella. Originally incredibly small, the town has been growing on account of a booming local tourism industry as it is one of very few places where wildflowers can be seen regularly, all year round. Once a month, an enormous feast is held in the town's largest park and just about every household - and even some outsiders - attends.

Hyacinth City
Hyacinth City is the largest city in Noella, a bustling central metropolis that sits just low enough in the region to not be perpetually blanketed in ice and snow, but high enough to be frigid by most standards and to see regular snowfall. Because of it's centralised location, it serves as an economic hub in the region, boasting many large shopping centres and businesses. Hyacinth City is also notable for being the capital of the region and for possessing the largest indoor winter-sports facility in the world.

This is also one of the least traditional of Noella's locations and there is a high youth population compared to other cities.

Chrysanthemum Town
The south-western Chrysanthemum Town is widely regarded as the oldest remaining settlement in Noella. The town is very rustic and is surrounded by mountains on one side and farmland on the other. Ancient ruins can also be found all through the local area, making the town a popular stop for archaeologists - something not all of the locals are thrilled about.

Crocus Town
Large by the standards of northern towns, Crosus Town is a scenic tourist location overlooking a great frozen lake. Several lodges and hotels can be found in this icy locale which has a very convenient location being only a few hours from both mountains to ski on and Snowdrop City. A popular landmark here is the original Bouquet Bakery famed for it's delicious cakes and other desserts.

Bluebell City
Located in the south-east, Bluebell City is a bustling port city that sees a seemingly never-ending traffic of various ships. Many of the Noella Region's imported good come through here and the locals have a reputation for being both friendly and shrewd business people. While hardly the shoppers paradise that Hyacinth City is, the beach side market here is a chief attraction and is known for having low prices and the tendency to occasionally sell rare items or artefacts.

The chief attraction for trainers, however, is Wilderness Island. A short boat ride out of the city leads to a privately owned island that has been set up as a Safari Zone. Not only can plenty of local Pokemon be found here, including rarer ones, but sometimes the owner will also import foreign Pokemon rarely seen in the region for trainers to attempt to catch. Unfortunately, it is known that entry into the island carries a very hefty fee.

This looks awesome, I'll start making the character and get it in asap. got my character done! Here she is!

Evalyn Greenwood

Age: 16 Gender: Female

Lopunny * Flaaffy * Corviknight * Houndoom * Sawsbuck * Dreepy

Appearance
Evalyn has waist-length, straight brown hair and eyebrow-length frames, two long strands resting on her shoulders(each side), and will wear twin bows on her hair, one on each side. She has warm light brown eyes and has a round face, is fair skinned, and kind of slim. She stands at a height of five feet and one inches, although her weight is a secret. She will be wearing the hairstyle told before as her default unless otherwise.
Her outfit consists of: a white turtleneck, sleeveless shirt made of cotton(underneath), black thigh-length simple shirt dress w/ grey buttons and a grey ribbon tied around the waist, black short shorts(underneath), gray knee-length socks w/ a ribbon tied at the end, ankle brown boots.

Personality
Evalyn is a kind and gentle soul, she loves to help out people whenever she can. She is empathetic and will do her best to see the positive side in things, or be optimistic, and thinks that everyone has good in them, even though they don't show it. She doesn't hold a grudge of any kind, living up to the motto "Forgive but never forget". She is also a hardworking, very loyal, independent, and dedicated person. She is very intelligent and smart when it comes to understanding people's emotions.
She may not act like it, but she isn't oblivious to the outside world and the horrors, just likes to bottle it up along with her low self-esteem and problems, keeping it all to herself.
She has been told that her kindness will bring her trouble one day due to how kind she is to others, even strangers and will help anybody in need, her self-sacrificing kindness kicking in, causing her to neglect her needs. She tends to do so without complaints, allowing others to push her around, and the girl has a problem with standing up for herself as well, just stays quiet and absorbs it all. There are times when she will stand up, but not for herself, but her friends and family.

Bio
Evalyn was born to a loving family of four, with her parents being Curtis Greenwood, and Elaine Greenwood. She is the first born child and has a little brother who is Kurt Greenwood, around 10 years old now. They live in Daffodil Town, the parents move there from Hearthome City in the Sinnoh Region. Their family was completed for a few years until eight years ago, their parents had to leave for a business trip and left their children in the care of the town, the people glad to help care for them in their absence. Unfortunately, the weather turned bad when they were sailing off and the ship they took, also held other people, was overturned by the rough waves and sunk. Evalyn learned how to do the chores and to cook from her mother awhile back, but she had to learn to care for her younger sibling as well for the next years to come. Luckily, she had the help of the villagers.
She and her brother have a couple Pokémon under their ownership. Evalyn got her first, a Bunneary, from her parents, called Lola, and her brother's first was a Rufflet, given to him by Evalyn since he was too young for one the time their parents vanished. From there, they started to collect Pokémon, Evalyn having a full party of six while her brother gained two more, being a Lampent and a Wooloo. The Wooloo and Mareep, now a Flaffy, were found together, along with Dreepy and Litwick, now a Lampent. Houndour, who's a Houndoom, was found by Evalyn, Corvisquire, presently a Corviknight, was a gift to her from a villager, and Deerling, now a Sawsbuck, got lost from her pack, being found by Evalyn as well.

Arabella Sivoy
Female • 5'1" • Age 62
Mamoswine • Houndoom
❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅ ❅

Arabella is a short, stout woman who carries herself and her reinforced umbrella with dignity and grace. Her face is lined and her hair is entirely silver nowadays, but age hasn't caught up with the rest of her quite yet. She still near-singlehandedly raises Swinub and their kin on her mountainside ranch, which doubles as a rest stop for those going further into the mountains from Chrysanthemum Town. In her youth Arabella traveled across many regions, but found none so warm and welcoming as the coldest of all. She returned to Noella and built a house in the traditional style in the mountains just west of her familial home of Chrysanthemum Town. It was there that she raised her own few children and their children in turn, most of whom still live somewhere in Noella but a few of whom travel the world, always sending photos and letters detailing their adventures.

Arabella is quiet, resilient, and down-to-earth. She is a great believer in balance and harmony of all things, and lives her life by such principles. People tend to be surprised at the vigor with which she takes to her work, much of which is physically taxing. And yet she returns to it day after day, year after year. She takes from the land and in return enriches it, takes care of her community that they may take care of her, gives and in turn receives. That is the way of balance.

Sivoy-raised Pokémon are highly regarded throughout the region. They are frequently sought out for purchase and for rental. Arabella raises and trains all of them to perform a wide variety of tasks, though often she is only requested to train them for a specific endeavor. She will not send her Pokémon away only trained to do a single task; that is never a recipe for success. A Pokémon has its entire life ahead of it; who knows what that may bring? Arabella prepares them for that entire life, not just a single job.

Arabella is generally amicable, but there are a few things that truly irritate her. The first, of course, are those people that believe Pokémon only exist to do a single task. The second are the archaeologists that frequent Chrysanthemum's ruins. Arabella has been known to describe their work as a "vile appropriation of a cultural site" and refuses to do business with any of them. The third irritation are people who go out into the mountains without proper care and preparation. Much to her chagrin, many of those people are archaeologists who attempted to solicit her help but were refused on principle.

"The name's Cole. Emmet if I like ya, Mr. Cole if I don't."

Emmet Cole
30 years old, Male
Coalossal, Aggron, Beartic

Appearance: Cole is a large man, 6' 6" and full of muscle, with hard, brown eyes and a strong jaw. He has dark chocolate skin and black hair braided into dreadlocks. A working man to the bone, he dresses in green overalls, black work boots and gloves, and wears a yellow hard hat. He carries his Pokeballs in a toolbox, along with various tools and sweet snacks.

Personality: A man of few words, Cole is gruff and honest, tough but fair. He believes that anything worth doing is worth doing right, and is a bit of a perfectionist. He tends to be rude to people who lack his commitment to hard work and fair play, as he believes it is the duty of all civilized people to strengthen the bonds of community. Even so, he is horribly jealous of anyone who can outshine his handiwork, even Pokemon. Everywhere he goes, he feels he is surrounded by rivals, and finds it hard to take pride in his strength when anyone with a super powered pet can outdo him.

Background: Cole was born and raised in Clover Town, a small town to the west of Noella and the industrial heart of the nation. Located near the White Clover Woods, the town is the leader in lumber and coal mining, boasting that they keep fires burning all across the country. Cole's father was a mechanic, and he followed in those footsteps proudly. His first Pokemon was a Rolycoly gifted to him by his mother, but he never dreamed of being a master trainer. He went on a short journey after finishing school, but he eventually returned home to Clover Town and started fixing things, aided by some of the strongest Pokemon in the nation.

Fiora Dalton
Female - Hyacinth City - 32 years old

Fiora is a tall, fair woman with pale skin, hazel eyes, and long, straight, reddish hair that she prefers letting loose, even if the strong winds make it hard for her to do so.
She had the bad luck of being born with a bad constitution, which came with a bad resistance to cold temperatures in one of the coldest regions of the world; that'd be the reason why she always walks with her Houndour, 'Ace', outside its Pokéball and at times wears lots of winter clothes, or at least a red scarf.

Fiora is known for being discrete. She only says what is necessary, when it's necessary and is never shy about it. She never tells other people what she thinks, and she trusts no one.
She used to be a trainer on a journey around Noella. She had the skill and the brains for being considered a talented one, but she lacked the motivation; in fact, the only thing that motivates her is money, and she saw a better opportunity for it in gambling than in being a trainer, so she dedicated her life in visiting the Game Corner in Hyacinth City and mastering the art of foul play (even her two Pokémon know how to use that move).
As time went on, she became an expert liar and a cheater. Even when the game is on her favor, she always has an ace up the sleeve in case the tables turn at the last moment.

Fiora was born in Daffodil Town as the middle one of three siblings. Her family moved from the big city to Daffodil in search for a better life (since there was not much place for tourism business in Hyacinth and Daffodil hadn't started to see its sudden growth yet). Her older sister is an archeologist constantly moving to Chrysanthemum Town, and her younger brother lives with his parents and takes part of the Dalton's family business, taking care of the position Fiora was supposed to take if she had returned to the town.

With the Dalton's sudden economic growth going on pair with Daffodil's, Fiora's parents wanted her to take part of the family business too, but they wanted her to meet the people of the region first. She didn't want to take part of the business, but she didn't know what she wanted to do either, so she accepted and undertook the journey as a Pokémon trainer with Ace, that was 15 years ago.
Everything was fine until she got to Blue Bell City, where she met an old sailor who introduced her to her first bet; since then, everything went downhill for her. Starting with giving up her journey and distancing herself from her family, she moved back to the city their parents left before, Hyacinth City, in order to get her money through gambling. She started with small bets, but eventually got into the big game.

She now lives in a small department in Hyacinth with enough money to make a life on her own.

Her two Pokémon are 'Ace' the Houndour and first Pokémon, and 'Joker' the Haunter.

Lyn Cooper

--=-- 23 =--= Female --=--

Appearance: Standing at a rather lofty 5'10", Lyn is a tall, fit young woman with a rather stoic demeanor about her. She has rather typical long, brown hair that's always pulled back with a small, stainless steel clasp, sharp attentive blue eyes, and a rather pale skin tone. She typically wears practical yet rather worn-down looking parka style coats, slick, well insulated pants and watertight boots all typically in rather dull browns, blues and tans.

Personality: Lyn is about as serious and hard-working as her appearance would imply, looking down upon anyone who she doesn't perceive to be carrying their own weight. She has a very hot-headed attitude as well as a competitive nature, both of these personality traits only being amplified while among her primarily male co-workers. When it comes to speaking Lyn isn't the most elegant speaker in the world, often coming off as rather blunt at the worst times.

Despite her appearance and manner of speaking implying otherwise, Lyn is a very caring individual, it's why she joined the logging business in the first place. However, she attempts to keep this side of herself hidden, preferring the tough girl persona she presents instead.

Background: Lyn grew up several dozen miles outside of Bluebell city in a place called Spheal's cove. Here she lived with a community of about 200 people on a small, floating logging camp anchored out several hundred yards away from the coast. In the camp itself she lives in a small, three room home with her parents, older brother and younger sister.

While it was usually expected of the sons to join their fathers in the logging business, her older brother fell seriously ill to Pneumonia soon after picking up the craft. With her sister being too young and her older brother being sickly Lyn took it upon herself to take his place, her family threatening to face financial hardship otherwise.

Her first several months on the job were nothing short of hellish. She lagged behind constantly and was often berated for it, frequently being reminded that "This ain't woman's work.". Despite all of this however she was too stubborn to quit, working herself harder and harder in attempt to finally earn the respect of her coworkers.

After these first few months the demeaning treatment seemed to die down somewhat. Whether it was because her pace was picking up or that people got bored of antagonizing her she'll never know. Her brother eventually recovered however his brush up with pneumonia left him too frail to do any serious labor so to this day, she still works as a Lumberer.

Pokemon on Hand: While originally her brother's Pokémon, Lin Inherited Hagan the Beartic, Raine the Lapras, and Nix the Absol when she took his place in the business, each of them having their own purpose in the profession. Hagan being used for land transport of the Wood, Raine being used for water transport, and Nix being used for both cutting and warning of potential danger.

Frankie Pryce
Non-Binary 5'5 26 years old

Frankie has short black hair, wears thin circular glasses, and is of average height. They have hazel eyes flecked with green, tanned skin and an odd fashion sense that involves wearing way too many bright colours, such as a red plaid shirt underneath a hot pink parka for protection against the cold of the region, along with bright green gloves and faded blue jeans. They have a scar on their shoulder from a battle gone wrong with a Dynamax Pokémon.

They were born in Snowdrop City 26 years ago. At age 14, they got their first Pokémon, a Bidoof, from a wandering professor. They excitedly left home and, tired of the cold and static life in Noella, travelled to tropical Alola to pursue their dreams as a Pokémon Trainer. They had a dream of becoming a Normal-type Gym Leader, as Frankie loved Normal-types and thought everyone was mean for underrating them. Unfortunately, they soon learned that Alola had no gyms at all, and moreso, the trials were incredibly difficult. After failing repeatedly to make progress, they felt frustrated and floundering, and they decided to return home to Noella. Being a globetrotting trainer or a Gym Leader wasn't for them, they decided, and Frankie resolved to do something more useful with their life.

Now, years later, Frankie lives in Chrysanthemum Town and runs a day care/kindergarden for both Pokémon and the human children of the town. They still have their original Bidoof, now Bibarel, as well as a Rufflet, which they use in simple practice battles with the children of the day care. They've given it an Everstone to prevent it from evolving and becoming too powerful. Frankie's trump card is, of course, a rare Shiny Bouffalant, which they encountered after almost passing out in a winter blizzard on their journey to Chrysanthemum Town after returning to Noelle. They took this as a sign that they'd made the right decision in returning.

As much as Frankie tries to be warm to everyone, they tend to default to being reserved and quiet and have to remind themselves to be present in conversations or they'll slip back into gloom. Despite this, they really enjoy meeting new people and teaching young children, and Frankie makes serious attempts to put on a cheerful face for their students. They tend to be superstitious and blame good or bad turns on the stars, or rare Pokémon spirits, or other mysterious entities. They like to think of themselves as a decent painter but in truth they are pretty terrible. They enjoy ice skating, despite really disliking it as a kid before they went to Alola and realized how much they missed it.
