      lolno it cant

Sounds like it's good for extracurricular target practice. Get in line for your completely new generically-built weapon. The more monsters you kill and more ether you absorb, the more likely you'll be able to pay the local ethersmiths to make it look as #BIGPLAY$ Xx360n0sc0peXxX420PU$$YSL4Y3RxX as the glorious original.

      Spells

      Quote:
      It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a bird.

Saqr concentrates his magic into summoning a controllable hardlight falcon. Aptly named Daw'a, - which signifies 'light source' in Arabic - the bird's movements and actions can be controlled by Saqr mentally. In addition to this, Daw'a can also be used to project and cast spells from a distance. If Saqr stays still and concentrates, he can also partially 'see' what his falcon is seeing through his right eye, effectively turning her into a beacon of sorts. Daw'a can be destroyed easily by darkness magic, and breaks just as easily as any other hardlight structure.
Wait, it's a girl? How does Saqr even know what a female falcon's genetalia looks like?

Note to self: stick this guy in a group with Lauren constantly. The names of the elements may make them sound like opposing forces, but they really aren't.

      Quote:
The Shield of "I'm Rich, So F*** You"

Saqr's only individual spell for the moment. Saqr uses the reflection off a coin or other small object to project a large, hardlight shield in the shape of the object. The shinier the object is, the easier it is to cast the spell.
      Okay.

      Quote:
Kamikaze Bird Where the Bird Probably Lives

Saqr charges Daw'a up with light magic, boosting her speed immensely and commanding her to charge beakfirst at the enemy. This spell can be used both offensively to slam Daw'a into enemies, or defensively to get her out of danger.
It turns the bird into a hardlight missile.

      Quote:
Kamikaze Bird Where the Bird Definitely Dies. So much for getting her out of danger earlier.

Saqr detonates Daw'a from a distance. (Gonna be at a distance anyways.) The explosion causes minor damage, but created a flash of light that temporarily blinds anyone caught in the blast radius. Daw'a van only be summoned back after a few minutes if this spell is used.
Good luck doing much without her for the next few minutes.

"Guys, protect me. I killed my bird, so I'm useless."

      History

      Quote:
Magic was not very widespread in Qatar (if magic could be widespread at all, that is). If a person had magical capabilities, they either kept it secret for religious purposes, or went abroad to meet others like themselves. Up until Saqr's birth, none of Saqr's siblings and half-siblings - ten of which were boys - had the power to harness any element, except for the second child of the family; who was not only the only girl, but also the only mage up until Saqr's birth. When he was born, everyone assumed he would not have any magic either, similarly to the rest of his siblings. For twelve years of his life, Saqr lived without knowledge that he had fire magic in his blood - until the day that he finally discovered the power completely on accident. Saqr was ecstatic upon this discovering this. His father, just as excited as his son, immediately sent Saqr off to his (now married) half-sister's house, in order to study more fire magic techniques.
This is where it starts to go downhill.

      Quote:
He ate less, he talked less. His movements were slow and he slept more than he stayed awake - and when he was, he was prone to bursts of anger which would leave both objects and people scorched. His grades dropped to abysmal levels, and so did his kill/death ratio in Warshooter 4 - something was seriously wrong. The few doctors who agreed to see him blamed the overuse of magic, which made absolutely no sense since he could barely cast any by now. The slump left Saqr bedridden for almost a year and a half.
I can understand eating less, talking less and sleeping more if he's depressed, but the absolute largest extent of drop in physical ability is being reduced to that of a normal human. It can't really cause magic spasms, either. It just weakens, and eventually disappears entirely. I even explained this to you; it's essentially forced atrophy of the proverbial muscle controlling someone's magic.

On doctors. Magic is not common knowledge in any form. Doctors don't know what the hell to do unless they're mages (which they're also likely to keep secret), and even then losing one's magical ability is still an unexplored phenomenon in itself due to the rarity.

      Quote:
Finally, iconically on his thirteenth birthday, Saqr woke up and he felt... better than he had in months. Both mentally and physically. His performance in school restabilized, his sleeping and eating schedule fixed, his K/D boosted back to the top... and his magic restored. Though this time, he couldn't manipulate fire, but rather something similar but very different - light. Unable to find a mentor in Qatar this time, Hassan Al Aqsa reluctantly agreed to send Saqr to the US to learn to control his magic.
So, when does he get a letter from Vale? And how does he get a mentor for an element that's extremely rare even among mages?

      Vance Fintan Adair
      Seventeen; born November 25th

Weapon of Choice: A large, double ended flail with the rounded, spiked heads of a morning star. The flails can be separated, allowing him to dual wield them.
Element: Light Magic, previously Fire Magic.
      Spells:
      Fire
The general kinesis of the flame element. After losing the ability to wield it and eventually gaining Light magic, Vance continued training until he was able to regain some control over the element of Fire. He's not as capable with it as he once was, but he's still skilled with it.

      Appearance:
Vance is a hulking piece of muscle, towering above others at six feet four inches and weighing a staggering two hundred and forty pounds. His mixed Middle East and English descent give him a light tan skin tone, with dark brown hair covering his face, chest and limbs. His head is kept neatly shaven, and his stubble is always trimmed in an orderly manner. The veins on his muscles tend to bulge in a manner that can be discomforting to those not into that kind of thing, particularly on his upper arms, which are roughly the size of a smaller person's head. His facial features are sharp and well defined, with a squared jaw and slightly gaunt look that highlight the better aspects of his face. His eyes are a gleaming amber hue, speckled with small orange flecks within the iris, and his thin lips are a muted pink. His nose is on the large side, with a bridge that curves inward, and his ears are somewhat small and rounded with a detached lobe. They're pierced, with his favorite earrings being a pair of iridescent studs.

As for clothing, he tends to wear a variety of tee shirts and tank tops along with cargo pants or shorts, of varying colors. For colder weather, he has a black jacket lined with light grey fur. He favors converse for shoes, and has a pair in practically every color, and usually wears black combat boots when hiking or fighting. He's always wearing a colorful metal necklace in the shape of half a heart. The matching necklace belonged to his mother, and he now keeps it with him since her passing. He also has an outfit made of fishnets for some "casual fun." Beyond that, he's not particularly concerned with fashion.
      Personality:
Vance is a man of few words. He's not shy by any means, but he prefers to listen first and speak last, if at all. In most situations, he communicates through action rather than speech, but his words are kind when he does use them, except, of course, when he's irritated with someone. He's not afraid to introduce himself to new people, and rarely foregoes his manners, always opening his mouth just enough to recite the niceties of polite society. He hates when people are rude in such a manner, forgetting courtesies like "excuse me" or "thank you," so he at least uses words over actions when such words are proper.

Being raised in a town surrounded by nature, he grew up adoring it in all of its forms. Animals, trees, flowers, and fruit never fail to catch his interest or love, and he's become somewhat infatuated with such things to an unreasonable extent. Ruining such majesty is a crime in his eyes, and so he hates cities and individuals who destroy nature, intentionally or not. He prefers calm, breezy days with a mild and serene sun to blazing hot rays, and he loves a calm winter evening in front of a warm fire. Other hobbies of his include climbing, hiking, martial arts, painting, cooking, and men. He really likes men. Or at least, how they look. Sometimes guys are stupid.

He's an empathetic man, always trying to understand others and see things from their point of view, but he's not always the best at it. When he does come to an understanding, though, he can usually dish out some pretty decent advice, and he's happy to help out with another's problem, so long as they haven't gotten on his bad side. A quick way to do that is to be needlessly loud, vulgar, rude, fake, or judgmental. And once you're on his bad side, he's not a kind man to encounter. He's also very protective, often overly so, and he can become rapidly angered when someone upsets his friends or family, and he acts recklessly when enraged, showing the more brutal side of him preferring actions to words. His physical capabilities and temperament can be a bad mix at times, but his intimidating appearance typically deters others before things escalate too much.

He's tactically intelligent, despite not always being academically so, and can exploit and control most any battlefield when he has a sufficient understanding of it. His recklessness and occasionally stubborn attitude can interfere with this, however, and have gotten him into a few bouts of trouble in the past. He also has a bit of a martyr complex, sometimes acting a little too altruistically in order to protect his comrades.

His fears are of the generic sort: death, ostracism and the like. It's not his own death he fears, though, but the death of those around him. It bothers him enough that he tries to avoid going to funerals if he can. Being a fire mage turned light mage, from a family of fire mages, he also has a slight fear of the cold. It's not something he's used to, being able to warm himself with his magic when necessary, and when he's subjected to the cold, both of the literal external sort and figurative internal turmoil, he's wont to freeze up.
      History:
Vance was born and raised in a small, remote village of mages in the northeastern United States. It was at the center of a forest atop a mountain, and provided the perfect amount of secrecy from prying eyes, while still being close enough to mundane human civilization to appear "normal." The mages had a rather communal style of living, so Vance was raised both by his father and the other adults of the town, alongside the other children. His mother died from an illness when he was only a few years old, leaving behind only a few vague memories and a necklace that matched the one she'd crafted for him when he was born. He's kept it by him ever since. Her death proved a devastating experience for his young mind, and created his aversion to funerals and fear of death. The lack of a mother was also a trait he shared with his best friend, Alma, though she had an extra father to compensate, ever since her father remarried.

Due to the nature of his town, Vance was made aware of his magical capabilities at a very young age, and to him it was normal, not some object of fantasy that most people would see it as. With many of the families in his village tracing their lineage back to the first appearance of magic, including his father's family, he was never lacking for guidance or training. His mother had been a first generation water mage, while his father's side of the family was predominantly composed of fire mages. As such, he was naturally gifted with fire magic, and was taught to control it starting in his early childhood. Thanks to his upbringing, he's had much more specialized training in both magic and combat than most other mages his age, giving him a general upper hand over his peers outside of his village.

His town was always incredibly close knit, with everyone knowing each other and having pleasant relationships with one another. They'd always been the type to teach quality over quantity in all aspects of life, striving for perfection, whilst reminding him that perfection was a respectable goal, but unattainable. Still, just because something is unattainable doesn't mean one shouldn't try to get as close to it as possible. They also taught the importance of the natural world, and what harmony with it was capable of, helping to foster his love for the outdoors and the creatures and life that flourished within it.

One of the more major events of his life was a short lived escapade with his friend Alma, who had wanted to try and find something, anything out about her mother. She didn't even know whether her mother was dead or alive, and she wanted answers. The event resulted in Alma receiving a large, three clawed scar across her face, and no answers. Out of both respect and concern for her, he doesn't tend to speak about it much beyond that.

It wasn't long after that incident that Vance's magic evolved. At one point he stopped being able to conjure flames as easily as before. And when he did, he realized that the fire wasn't quite . . . proper. That's when he realized something was amiss. At first his flames dimmed, and then they disappeared altogether. For multiple months, he was unable to cast any magic at all, which terrified him. The elders told him not to worry, that it would sort itself out on its own. He didn't know what they meant, or if they just didn't have an answer and were just feeding him a line, but he soon realized exactly why things had gone amiss. Amiss in the best of ways, perhaps. After months of nothingness, he regained the ability to conjure flames, much to his surprise and delight. He'd practiced every day during that drought of magic, hoping it would go back to normal.

While he did regain his magic, it wasn't quite what one would call normal. His new "flames" were a pale imitation of what they once were, being nothing more than a mockery of light particles that lacked the intensity of heat or power his old flames possessed, but they were intriguing nonetheless. He went to the elders in his village with his new abilities, and while they were not able to personally teach him about his powers, they had heard of such a thing. He had become a light mage, opening up a whole new avenue of magic for him to explore. He trained with his new magic, while also trying to regain some control over his old fire magic. He succeeded to some extent in both regards.

Perhaps it was his new abilities, or the fact that he came from such a unique background, but it was only two short years after the incident with Alma that he received an invitation to the Vale Institute of Magic. It wasn't an uncommon occurrence in his town, and Alma had received an invitation as well, so the two happily accepted their invitations and took their first steps towards a new point in their lives.

I'm sorry to tell you this, Foxrally, and it really was very close (Personally, I love how you managed to integrate his gaming habits into discovering a third-eye and extension of his magic in Daw'a), but there are still a couple of major issues in your sheet that we honestly would have really preferred you asking about for information and possibilities. (We can be very accommodating. I mean, look at Jack and Michael.)

Namely, the light mage and location. Mostly the light mage, but when it comes to location, that problem's a lot easier. "High Plains" doesn't mean "West Coast". That's the wrong side of the Rockies.

However, Nakuzami's SU, which was completed and edited around the same time, is one we consider to be acceptable. So, we're accepting it.

          So, without further ado.

The Light Mage has been decided.

          Please welcome to the stage:

          The only.

            I done!

            Spoiler:
Weapon of Choice: Lots and lots of knives and such. Daggers. She is of the thief class! She will need new weapons when she gets to Vale though, as she's never used an Ether weapon before!
            Element: Darkness
            Spells

Stealth Cross - used to cloak her presence in terms of sight and sound. It does not work if she's in contact with people, nor does it always work perfectly. In fact, sometimes, it doesn't work at all.

Cat's Claw - A reinforcement spell based on her former use of air magic. Increases her flexibility and durability and her strength in terms of jumping and clinging to vertical surfaces. She will probably never be able to fly again.

Shadow Call - She uses her shadow as a clone of herself to guard her back or to sneak attack. One of her stronger spells. It can also be used to armor her body.. Damage to her is absorbed the clone. Though, either way, too much and it fades away, needing to be recast.

Pull - A weak absorption attack, Two black and purple orbs float at Fie's head, which clearly isn't very high, and spin around to stop attacks. They do no real good against physical attacks at the moment, nor are they all that reliable. She's working on it though, really!

            Appearance:

            Fie is tiny.

Fie belongs in nooks and crannies with cats and cuddly things. Also with knives. She a teensy bit of a knife nut. Force of habit.

Her skin is dark, like chocolate, and she has lithe limbs. They're a bit too long but she'll have a growth spurt one of these days... maybe. Fie's height and weight are nothing special and even with aikido training under her waistband, she's still relatively average. Her hair is brown and cut short because long hair gets in the way. Also because her mom hates watching her comb it. Her eyes are also brown, gentle and framing a tiny nose (Everything about this girl is tiny. Take note, all ye interested women! Or men, she's not fussy.) . There is a scar on the back of her head, hidden in her hair. She probably doesn't know it's there, but it's from the fall. She got hit back there with a rock as she sank into the water. Go figure. Don't bring it up, she doesn't know it's there.

Fie, a trait possibly from when she first used air magic, likes loose clothes. Unless they’re jeans. Then apparently skinny jeans are okay? I guess? Well, whatever. She likes them. She feels comfortable in her cream colored top, loose about her shoulders. Though she’s not against yoga pants and a teeshirt. They are much easier for her to hide in. She wears sneakers everywhere, even to the beach.

The one thing that goes against her loose clothes trend more than anything is her hooded sweater that looks like a puppy. (which is funny because she’s allergic to dogs. Not Plotmon though! Honest.) It tends to serves as part of her pajamas or even a good luck charm.

She tends to prefer a fanny pack over a purse to carry all of her needed essentials, bar one thing. There is a Digivice toy in the bag, a gift from Anne. She keeps it with her almost all of the time. But she can use a string purse, for informal occasions.

            Personality:

Fie is somewhat reserved. In her social circle, she’s friendly and welcoming enough, provided you don’t start digging into her business. Then she has a tendency to simply disappear. Good luck finding her there. She’s very good at hiding. How do you think she got all the way to the waterfront without her parents knowing back then? And that was before the darkness magic.

Fie is not a fan of staying out of the action entirely. The sidelines, thanks to anime, are not for her. That said, she’s not strong enough to be in the direct line of fire. So she’s slipping around, supporting, being helpful. Maybe someday she can be a hero, like kids are in digimon. It’s hard for her to admit it aloud but that’s what she’s always wanted to be. What no one told her is that a lot of heroes require a tragic beginning, something to set them on the path. Well, she’s trying anyway. She can be an exception right? right?

Fie is at a point where she really just needs a good push of self-confidence. Being constantly needled and poked at and the like did not help with this, especially since she couldn’t answer the questions or explain anything. She’s open to new people, if only because new people don’t know her well-enough to pry into her life because they know it so well and want any new tidbits of gossip they could get. What new people were curious about she could easily talk about and turn back to them. It was all about survival.

That is a conflicting point for Fie. her near-death experience made her want to be ordinary, but she has never lost her desire to be a chosen one, to be special. It goes into everything else as well. She likes helping people with small tasks, and hanging out with them, but it doesn’t feel good enough. She doesn’t feel like she does enough for anyone and yet she keeps trying. Plucky optimism!

Fie can be quite excitable when it comes to talking about things she likes. She likes plots, likes it when some villains are redeemed or shown to be more than what they are. Hopefully this means she won’t go talking to Eaterspawn. Hopefully.

Fie is a little bit impulsive. She has never been a good strategist and won’t deny it. Nor has she ever really worked in a team outside of classwork. Because of this, she has a great deal to learn in that. She has been a bit too self-reliant for her own good. Her parents are always busy and she lacks siblings, so it was just a matter of course. So when her instincts say do something, she tends to go ahead and do it. Now when her impulses say to say something like that she simply can’t. That’s too far for her. Which ends up with her being tight-lipped a lot. This does, admittedly, happen a lot in regards of asking for help. Silly girl.

She smiles a lot, laughs a lot, and really doesn’t think much of her potential poker-facing. Also she likes girls. And boys. Or whatever. She doesn’t really care. As long as they look cute, there is no fussing. She just wants to do better as a person. She wants to be like Anne. No she is totally not pining, shut up. She’s not a kuudere either! … well okay, maybe just a little.

            History:

Do you believe wishes can come true?

Fie does. For better or for worse.

Fie was born to an ordinary family, middle-class, related to magic more by marriage than by direct blood. She grew up in a small suburb in Illinois. Neither of her parents were magical, though they were related to mages. So it was a rather nasty surprise when little Fie discovered that she could fly at the age of five, bouncing up at the ceiling and giggling as all children would. And it only grew from there. Gentle bursts of air to push her ahead in class, breezes to ruin lessons, small, minor things.

Her parents hired a cousin, a tutor, to help. Miranda was a happy teacher, eager to have a little junior. She taught Fie focus, to hide it. After all, using her magic could be more harm than good in a place that wasn't often surrounded by it. And harm it did. Fie, quickly enough, was bullied. She tuned them out, and eventually made friends of her own, helped by her smile. Magic also helped, though she grew less inclined to show it off without prompting. She kind of liked being special. Okay, she really liked it. It was just like the Digimon series she had grown up with. Maybe she could save the world someday. She was taught how to throw objects, to hit them, in case someone came calling.

But of course, if something can go wrong, it will. And as it happened, a number of things went wrong.

The first part was simple. Her parents lost their jobs not long before her eighth birthday. Her mother has never quite recovered from the loss of it, despite eventually being employed again. Not long after this, Fie's use of Air Magic slowly, gently fell apart. It started small. She couldn't stay up as long. Her jumps weren't going as far. The noise was just a bit louder.

Then it grew moreso. She couldn't stay up at all on the ceiling. Her support spells failed to give her the power she needed. Fie with no magical parents, and limited contact with her relatives, was helpless. Even her cousin, when asked, had very little idea. Magic had not been around for them for very long. However, Fie has always been a bit of a tough cookie, even at the age of ten. She needed to find a way to accept it. She needed to let it go. Besides, it may have been better not to be special. Her parents needed her to buckle down and get tough for what was to come.

So she decided to say goodbye. Farewell to any heroism and fun stuff. It was time to start growing up. The best way to do this was to take one last flight over the lake. She could swim, after all. It couldn't go too badly, right?

Well, it started off all right. She was flying rather low. Fie was waving at the fish, telling them next time she would be down there with them. Then, the wind picked up, and she could not control it. She flew higher and higher, further from land. Fie grew frightened and started to cry, trying to go against the current of the wind, to head back where she belonged. Then, of course, the last of her magic finally puttered out, so down went Fern.

Fern had no memory of what happened after that. She didn't know how she made it back to shore. It's possible the impact of the water gave her a concussion. (The truth is that a water mage found her in time.) What she did remember is waking up in the hospital, bandaged up and horribly confused. She barely remembered having magic, but that seemed irrelevant, because she didn't have it anymore. But she lived her life like it never even happened, and barring her inability to get out from her hiding place during a storm, she tried not to think of the time that she had her powers.

            Emphasis on try.

Everyone, her family, her friends, they nagged about it. They were curious. What happened, they asked, needling and needling, having her help them try to understand. Fern hated it. It was magic. It was over. She could be a hero some other way. She wished they would stop looking at her for a while. So she searched and searched for a way in herself, walking more quietly, slinking, looking away even. She tried to get her magic back, if only so they would leave her alone. The bullying eventually faded away, left with a few snide glances and some whispered comments. She was no longer a mage among humans. She was just another human, right?

And yet, poof. Dreams do come true.

One day, a few weeks after the start of her first year in middle school, she walked right past her friends. There was a prickling under her skin, her fists were clenched tight. They turned to look in the direction she was walking from. She was bathed under the shadow of the awning. They walked right past her. And it happened again. And again.

It didn't always go this well. Sometimes Fie disappeared or reappeared in place. Sometimes, nothing happened and people barraged her like something should. She didn't know quite how to handle it, and nothing Fern does seems to get any worse. One day, her father put his foot down, and the questioning came to an end. At least where he could control it anyway. Fie retreated into video games, into animated media. She started going to Aikido, to give her a place not to think. She didn't stop using her darkness, but she didn't know how to use it well. All Miranda could do was give her vague ideas and the same practicing techniques she had once had.

When she turned thirteen, Fie dated a girl. She had no clue where the idea came from but there it was, clear as day. And when an impulse showed up in her head, Fie tended to follow it. She is noisy and friendly, but doesn't ask too many questions. Most of them she answers on her own. But she has Fern choose most things, and teaches her about birds and panthers and things like that. The first time their respective parents found Fie cowering in Anne's lap during a storm was a thing of pure beauty, at least according to Anne.

Then the letter from Vale came, a week after she left middle school, with a comment from her cousin Miranda's grandfather. Fern was going into magic, like it or not. They may not know about her themselves, but they knew people that did.

Other: She misses her cat Plot. Can she bring him? Please? And can she write to Anne? She wants this long distance relationship thing to work, darn it.

                Nychta DeMuere // 16 // Male

Weapon of Choice: Two crossbows, which he’s more proficient with than he should be. He shoots all sorts of arrows made out of ice, and he usually controls them through the use of Carry.

                Element: Water - Ice

                Spells:
“The Jesus:” He didn’t nickname this one, his cousin did. The Jesus is actually fairly simple-- it allows him to walk on water, and is a very passive spell. Nychta, out of embarrassment for the name he mentally uses for the spell, will more often refer to it as Waterwalk, which is probably more fitting.

Carry: Does exactly what it sounds like it does. Nychta moves water in such a way and keeping such a consistency that it will carry objects within the water, provided they’re not so heavy that they’ll fall straight out. Although at first a taxing skill which took a lot of concentration to keep, it’s become almost subconscious and automatic, allowing him to quickly use it for long distances. He usually uses it to carry grenades or ice across areas and right into the unsuspecting faces of enemies, but the only reason it’s so well trained is because he used it often at home.

Spear Circle: A circle of spears literally made of ice forms behind Nychta-- first as water, and then as ice, and attacks enemies from a long distance. It takes time to charge, but less effort than Glacier Hands since all he has to do is launch them; in theory, he could control them too, but it’s straight up easier to launch them, he’s never practiced and never does it. It’d likely require communication and/or awareness for him not to accidentally impale a teammate. Nychta is hard at work at finding a cooler name, on Oscar’s insistence.

Glacier Hands: Floating hands made of ice about two or three times larger than Nychta’s own hands. While strong, durable, and efficient, they’re not very large and therefore not very useful in pummelling really big monsters-- unless you use a ton. Unfortunately, while you can use a ton of hands to get work done, it takes quite a bit of strain on Nychta to maintain ice for so long and for so many movements, so he doesn’t tend to move when he uses them-- unless he’s using only a few, in which case he’ll use them to block attacks.

Fragmentary Ice: Ice grenades, one of Nychta’s more used spells. The grenades don’t explode in fire and cool stuff-- as Nychta would like-- but as ice shards, stabbing enemies in multiple places. Although he’d fly them around, he’d much rather use Carry, since it takes less effort to move ice than it does to move water. Oscar, after Nychta accidentally let one off during dinner, has since called them “Peas” and refers to the incident as the “Exploding Pea Incident.”
Appearance: A thin, wiry six foot boy who hasn’t ever really done work hard enough to develop muscles besides those to run around and shoot stuff-- both of which have added color and tone to his face and body. Nychta’s black hair is wavy, messy and falls over his forehead in small groups, but it’s usually displaced by the headphones that he often wears; when it’s not, though, it’s still nearly just as messy as it is with them. Generally, Nychta doesn’t care much about his appearance-- but with pale, unblemished skin and a slightly toned body, he’s very aware that he was lucky, unlike his acne-ridden father as a kid. Unlike his father, he doesn’t have circles under his eyes, and has a more innocent look.

He tends to wear plain, neutral shirts and blue jeans, but his wardrobe is equipped for formal and semi-formal and business casual and everything his father can think of. He’ll also put on button down shirts-- not buttoned down, of course-- over his neutral shirts and blue jeans, and he wears either Vans or sneakers. He’s usually seen drinking a soda.

Personality: After becoming a teenager, Nychta became very relaxed-- and although he keeps up with his studies and his work, he’s never particularly stressed out about it.

Nychta enjoys the pursuit of knowledge. It’s a known fact among his peers and everyone he knows-- and as such, they often ask him for backing on ideas and positions. Otherwise, though, in large social settings, Nychta doesn’t present himself as a man who speaks often-- just someone who speaks a lot when he does. Usually, his position on things isn’t very elaborate-- because he’s never analyzed something enough or because he doesn’t particularly care enough-- but he steadily gives information which he knows concerning the subject. In this way, Nychta is a bit of an enabler-- he gives information to those that need it, as opposed to using the information himself. Due to the way his father has raised him, however, he talks when he finds someone interesting-- and although his conversational skills aren’t flawless, he often tries to find a reason to speak to someone new and widen his network of friends and people he knows.

To even those he speaks to, though, Nychta’s mind can be a mystery. He sits at his laptop often-- working on his studies or looking up something he’s read in a book-- and otherwise he’s usually on his own, taking walks or reading a book. To those who do know him well, however, he talks a lot, although with a sense of sarcasm and wit in regular speech. He’s very sympathetic, but since he grew up with the privilege of having a rich father and a rich cousin, he doesn’t always find it easy to relate to the past experiences of others, creating a bit of a rift sometimes. Still, Nychta tries to be decent emotional support, and even brings himself to give hugs.

On the subject of emotions, while he was emotional while he was younger, he eventually lost a sense of defeat upon losing from gambling so much, and learned to detach from things that wouldn’t mean much in life. In this sense, it disorients people when he’s frustrated about something [usually from those he finds ignorant even in the face of facts he gives], and yet calms down fairly quickly. Due to Oscar's interference, he's still surprised when he learns he's not getting certain amenities he was used to ["cleaning his room" would be one of them, even if it's usually organized anyway]. The only thing Nychta’s really invested in, it seems, is often close friends, and when he goes to Vale he’ll have to make those first.

History: Nychta was born to a business mogul who worked in the weapons industry. His game was efficiency, and his name, unfortunately, was not Oscar DeMuere. His name was, in fact, Remington DeMuere, and he was hardly an interesting man; he founded a company about making guns, made guns, and then made lots of money selling those guns. Eventually, he branched out from guns to other weapons, bombs, and the like; but at this point he wasn’t only selling to people, but to governments. He himself stayed out of the light, but Remington knew that he was ill liked and kept from having kids. Another thing he disliked was the weird stuff his cousins did. Unfortunately [for him], he couldn’t get away from either.

When good ol’ Remmy did have a son with a woman who had no interest in the man and would likely have been detrimental to the raising of his son, he implored that the woman leave and raised the young boy with his own professional team of staff. Therefore, Nychta’s upbringing was highly privileged for about a year. When his son was carelessly left alone in a bath and in conditions where he surely should have drowned, Remington became suspicious. Very suspicious.

Remmy was not the kind of man to tempt fate, but he was the kind of man to fire staff after making the same mistake twice. When it did happen, he called his cousin; a cousin he disliked a bit and looked more like Nychta’s father than he did. A young man who had recently made all of his profits by bookkeeping and gambling, rich either by luck, or by coy antics; and Remmy didn’t hold Oscar to any sort of standards. Oscar, however, was ecstatic to hear that his cousin had developed signs of “unusual properties” and investigated as soon as possible, and was even happier when he learned that he’d picked up water magic. As soon as he learned, Oscar-- taking a break from the studies he funded with his gambling profits-- became Nychta’s more or less primary caretaker, to Remington’s annoyance. It was unfortunate, in his eyes, that there was no one else for the job.

As Nychta grew, he grew up with a father who was constantly busy and stern, and a cousin who was calm and shared many of his qualities. Oscar-- taking up residence only apartments away from the high-rise Nychta lived in-- rose Nychta, drove him to his private school, was his personal bodyguard [by insistence, and contract], and tutored him. In a sense, he was another father, although he didn’t sit around the dinner table and didn’t tuck him in at night and was not hardly as good as cooking as Remmy was. [Around this time, Nychta would make off-color comments about almost having two dads. Some people, were, inevitably, displeased.] Nychta himself, however, grew up without many problems with this, although as the years passed and Nychta slowly showed more signs of magic usage, both his father [reluctantly] and Oscar [excitedly] accepted his fate.

Nychta spent these years as a bit of an excitable boy who spent time reading books and running around the house obsessing over airplanes-- which he’d been on often and found cool. He didn’t spend as much time with friends as his peers did, and was usually an outlier in groups, which slowly began to alienate him the farther he went to school. Oscar began to mold Nychta-- unintentionally-- and soon Nychta took some stock in his studies, although not as dedicated; Nychta also lacked direction in his interests, and even though he liked reading, he was even more interested in researching between distinct subjects rather than singular topics. Early report cards show a strong strength in statistics, and he was known for being logical and intelligent within his group of peers. Remmy, was of course, pleased, and even let Oscar take Nychta places indiscriminately-- but, of course, Oscar would never let him know that he took Nychta to the racetrack.

At the age of nine, Oscar began to teach him to use magic, which was extremely hard at the beginning because Oscar had to put in some effort to relearn the art himself. After Nychta developed it, however, training became easygoing; at age 12, he’d already begun to use Carry more often. At this point, his father had accepted magic as regular and him and Nychta would go out to lakes and fish-- where Remmy would remind him that he was to be the heir to a company which made a lot of dough. Nychta also began to focus on his studies-- and as a result neglected magic. Oscar had already charted Nychta’s future and had him learning spells alongside his studies, but as we get closer and closer to the present, the time spent practicing dwindles down to nil.

Nychta had evolved to the social scene. He was well-rounded, and although still a bit reclusive enjoyed being among small groups of friends more than anything. Not only that, but Oscar made a point of getting the word out to some friends-in-the-know that the kid was proficient in magic [...not that it mattered]. As Oscar received his doctorate, Nychta received a letter. A letter to the Vale Institute of Magic-- or, as it claimed, “Higher Learning.” He almost immediately decided to go-- and neither Remmy or Oscar was particularly annoyed about it.

                Other:
                • He has experience with bookkeeping due to being around Oscar a lot, and will likely establish a small betting system on how well a team performs, and in some cases, whether or not they return alive.
                • He will go by “Nick,” but doesn’t make an effort to be called such, and prefers his first or last name. Lived in New York.
                • This doesn’t really fit much elsewhere in history, but over the years Remmy put some interest in having the kid protect himself and, at Oscar’s insistence, Nychta learned to use a crossbow.
                • Remmy, against popular belief, was actually quite kind to his son, and although they only really bonded in Nychta’s later years, none of them hold any contempt towards each other.
                • Also, Nychta, over time, has become aware of just what he’s doing at Vale, but both Oscar and Remmy think he’s pretty much ready to take on monsters. ...Well, Remmy doesn’t really know much about it, but he probably won’t need to. ...Right?
                • Nychta’s conversation topics vary from “how’d you like the weather recently,” to a cool thing he’s recently learned about, to “I think you’re cool, wanna take a walk?” The last one is usually so odd that he ends up walking with the person in question somehow.
                • His favorite drink is orange soda or coffee, and he tends to eat anything. He’s a really good cook.
                • He is that heterosexual thang.

Hey.... um.... scratch me out. I can't think of anything good that would make sense or be unique in this RP. Sorry to waste your time. I'll read along though, so have fun!

A twelfth player slot has officially been filled, thus closing SU applications until further noted. With that, look forward to the IC within the next couple of days (hopefully).

@SingSongBirdy: As of this post, there are no longer any open slots.

                        @DLMuerte: Nychta has been accepted.

@DarkMoonPhase: Unfortunately, there were too many issues with your edited SU still, while DLMuerte's SU was ready to go. Here are the comments that have for your SU this time around.
                        Spoiler:
Weapon of Choice: There’s not a whole lot of objectivity involved with phrases like “somewhat of a sword short that can be lethal in skilled hands.” Considering the massive variety of enemies in the current iteration of Vale, what a weapon can and can’t easily kill is pretty objective. And, to be honest, there isn’t much of a need to describe a weapon’s effectiveness.

Spells: I saw that you mentioned that you needed help with your spells, and after seeing them myself, I’m inclined to agree. Though, currently, it seems there won’t be much benefit from my analysis, I’ll go ahead and explain should a spot open up later.
Crush: There’s really not much need for the “and Lexi traps her foes in a rapid vibration sphere.” Unfortunately, it convolutes the meaning of the spell, along with just making things confusing.

Accelerate: Honestly, this is just a speed buff that could’ve been incorporated into Glide, so I’d remove it and just mention that Glide increases Lexi’s speed as well. Oh, and the physically draining thing is a bit of an issue as well, considering the PvE environment. After all, it’s only a speed buff.

Glide: I don’t quite think you mean “solidifies the air,” since that would basically be creating a solid platform of air, whereas you describe something akin to traditional gliding.

Shield: Not really bad in concept, in fact, I really like the idea. However, should something of greater speed or something too heavy interact with the barrier, it would be unable to defend Lexi from the attack, since it sounds like the barrier is simply deflecting attacks.
Appearance: Not much to say here, other than that you should mention Lexi dyed her hair white, since white hair is unnatural and Vale is set in the modern world. There are certain spells that could potentially tint a mage’s hair, but they are few and far between.

Personality: Only real issue I have is a continuity problem. You mentioned that she is kind and caring, but at the same she is very emotional and quick-tempered. In other words, it’d be next to impossible for her to display this kindness, since she’s so prone to blowing up on people.

History: There are two main issues that I have here: the first being this unmentioned shyness that seems to pervade Lexi’s history. The second issue is her magical experience. Before being accepted, she’s only had a freak run in with a bear to trigger her magic and some time “play[ing] around” with magic. She needs to have at least proactively tried to develop her skills for Vale to be interested in her.

Two new characters have been added to the list. Please welcome to the stage, Diana and Morgan.

The IC should be up soon enough.

                          Name: Carson Welles

                          Age: 17

                          Gender: Male

                          Weapon of Choice: Broadsword

                          Element: Air

                          Spells:
                          Razor Wind
Projects a cutting wind that allows the user to slice through matter from a distance. Can be shot out from the hands, but Carson most often combines it with the use of his broadswoard, giving the normally short ranged weapon a longer reach. Can also be used to enhance the cutting power of a weapon.

                          Thermobaric Barrage
Pressurizes the air within a small range, to the point where it creates a small explosion.

                          Bulwark

Creates a shield of air that can be cast within a rather long range, able to protect the user or another person/object of choice. However, the further away the target of the spell is from the user, the more vulnerable the shield.

Appearance: Standing at exactly six-foot-one, Carson has a rather long and slender figure which doesn't exactly help others recognize him as a male upon first glance. He has a rather feminine look about him, with his long curling eyelashes, pale white skin, deep purple eyes, and a smile that could make even the straightest man's heart melt. His long blonde hair is another feature that might make it difficult for one to identify his gender without getting to know him.

Despite the fact that he's spent his entire life in Montana, the young mage has never gotten accustomed to the cold. Because of this, most of Carson's wardrobe consists of winter wear. His daily outfits differ from day to day, but the one constant is that he always has a scarf wrapped around his neck.

Personality: Truly a young man in love with the idea of love, Carson has always been described as a hopeless romantic. An idealistic dreamer, he is a genuine believer in the classic fairytale romances and an advocate for chivalry. As a part of his "duties as a gentleman" he believes in always assisting anyone he is able to and being compassionate to those around him. He's a big fan of using grandiose gestures to express his feelings and has no shame in doing so. Depending on who you ask this is either heartwarmingly adorable or overwhelmingly obnoxious, but even those that find him to be aggravating can agree that there is a strange charm about the young man, perhaps due to the almost blind optimism and kindness that he goes about life with.

History: The son of an ever-loving air mage and a father who was never there, Carson was born and raised in the small city of Livingston, Montana. He grew up as a normal child, but once his magical abilities started to emerge early in primary school his mother began regularly taking him out to the nearby Yellowstone National Park to develop them. Having spent a good chunk of time serving in the Liminal Isles, Karen Welles knew a thing or two about using air magic.

The younger Welles caught on quickly and showed a natural aptitude towards combat. His burgeoning athletic skills were developing alongside his magic ones as he grew and he approached every lesson with enthusiasm, following every word of his mother's teachings.

The two of them had always been extremely close, as they almost had to be. The fact that Carson's father had left Karen as soon as he found out she was pregnant and the non existent relationship between herself and her parents, left the young woman in her mid twenties to fend for herself and her unborn child.

Carson turned out to be a wonderful child who was all parts, funny, charming, and obedient. Ever since the day he was born, Karen had preached to the boy about the wonder of love and how he needed to be a true gentleman. She was going to make sure that he never turned out like his father. She would tuck him in every night reading him epic fairytales filled with romance and drama, and the boy became engrossed with those stories. He always fancied himself as the knight in shining armor off to save a princess in a high tower, and that vision of himself was what drove him to become stronger each day.

As he grew older Carson became recognized around the small community as one of the best and brightest youngsters in Livingston. He was the top student in the tiny class of his high school, the star of the basketball and baseball teams, and a frequent volunteer in the organizations around the city. As much as he was known for his achievements, he became rather infamous for his flair and extravagance. His over the top hi-jinks involving the young women of Livingston were either hit or miss with the community. Regardless he was well liked throughout the city, save for the occasional citizen chastising him for his rather feminine appearance.

As his reputation grew, so did his magic abilities. By the time he had reached the age of sixteen, Carson had grasped a good understanding of his air magic and was rather proficient with his mother's broadsword. Karen, knowing that she wouldn't be able to teach her son much more used a couple of her old connections in the magic community to get her boy an invitation to one of the two magic high schools, The Vale Institute of Magic.

So instead of attending his senior year at Livingston Central High, Carson packed his bags, his mother's broadsword and headed to the west, where Vale awaited.

Because Colony and I are the GMs, and we can make exceptions whenever the hell we want, and because we took care of all this before Ozy actually posted it, Carson is accepted.

Updates to both the OOC main post and the most recent IC announcement have been made to reflect the recent changes in active characters. As of now, team three, featuring Iris, Michael, Shion and Violett, has been changed and will instead feature the twins, Lauren and Lily, over Michael and Shion. As mentioned in the previous post, Michael, Vance and Julie have all been moved to the inactive section, and are thereby restricted from current teams, though may reenter the normal cycle should their writers become more active. Aside from these changes, everything else remains the same, unless unforeseen circumstances requires another change.

I am interested in this one, just got 2 questions for now

first i am not well known with the american school systems, so what ages would be acceptable for grde 9 to 12?

also, i noticed lightning is part of fire, so i wish to ask to what extend can i make a char who is more specialized into electrical attacks then fire?

I'm sorry to tell you this, but we're not currently accepting new applicants. You're still free to make a character and submit it to us in private, so your questions are answered in the spoiler below, but it's very unlikely that we'll be making many exceptions for a while.

                                      Spoiler:
The age range is available in the provided sheet. Simply hover over the section text.

Specialization is simply a matter of experience, as a significant mastery over fire magic is required before lightning magic is even possible.

                                        Name: Alice Winchester

                                        Age: 17

                                        Gender: Female

Weapon of Choice: Dual kukri nicknamed “Ralla” and “Raina”

                                        Element: Fire/Lightning

                                        Spells:
Short circuit: A gutsy spell that requires Alice to get relatively close to her target where she disrupts the human target's neurons or a monster's magical energy, leaving whatever she touches inert.

Chains: A spell which creates fiery chains that can wrap around a target or bludgeon it with the hot irons.

Supernova: A spell that fires a tight ball of fire at her target, which burrows deep inside before exploding.

Encase: A combination of fire and lightning engulfs the caster, protecting her from contact damage and endangering those who touch her. If she attacks while encased, it causes extra magical damage to the target as it transfers on contact. It also can cover her kukri, allowing her to wield them more effectively.

Hyperperception: This spell allows Alice to alter her perception of time, allowing her to move much faster than her environment by causing over activity of her own neurons due to electrical manipulation.

                                        Appearance:
A tall, leggy blonde, standing at 5'10, Alice has always been attractive even if she hasn't always realized it - lean with curves in all the right places. Much to her chagrin, the boys tend to notice one place in particular -- her chest, which tends to get in the way at the most inconvenient of times. Her gaze has been described as piercing, with eyes of a striking blue that don't seem to miss a thing.

                                        Personality:
Overall, Alice is confident of her abilities and herself, but she still lends herself to the quiet, serious side of life, and unbeknownst to most except close friends, she has a great sense of humor. In new situations, she finds herself quiet and analytical, as if studying a battlefield for the best way to navigate through it. She can sometimes get lost in her own mind, sometimes needing to snap herself out of it with a small jolt. She tends to be rather shy in new situations, but eventually with enough time, she's capable of opening up. Deep inside, she still carries the passion and flame of her younger self, which can escape in times of extreme emotion or distress.

                                        History:
Alice was born and raised in North Carolina in farm country in the middle of nowhere. At the age of five, while playing outside in the field alone, she discovered that she could create fire out of nothingness. She was excited and quickly began to experiment, much to her parents' chagrin as she had soon burned half the crop for that year. Alice’s father was a trained fire mage, so he began to train her to use and harness her ability. Her mother had no special power of her own but enjoyed watching both of her children embrace their magic and become mages themselves. While her brother’s powers were a bit more subdued and he mainly seemed interested in defensive spells, Alice herself found herself brimming with it, almost to the point where her father didn't quite know how to teach her control, which was something she struggled with immensely.

At the start of her teenage years, the missing control started to sink in and her personality shifted from an extremely temperamental ball of fire to a calmer, controlled flame. In her core, she still burns hot with passion but it's intimately soothed by meditation, which had proven to be the only way to grant some semblance of a normal life. Yoga and meditation had helped center her, so she took it on as a hobby and grew to love it. Another passion of hers was reading, finding it utterly intoxicating to get lost in another world described by her favorite authors.

Once her temperament and power was more manageable, her father knew that the Isles were her destiny, so he reached out to his old mentor, a fire mage of much wisdom and experience to further train his daughter in her art. Knowing that his own daughter had passed him in his ability, her father took a step back to simply watch her development from the sidelines. During the training with her father's mentor, around the age of fifteen, Alice discovered that she could both create and manipulate electricity as well as fire, much to her instructor's pleasure. He had noted that her progress was extraordinary and hoped soon that she would be able to master both of her abilities.

Balancing school and magic was often difficult for the girl, since many of the more outgoing teens tended to tease her about being a bit shy, which caused her temper to flare up. Thankfully, she managed to start no fires while at school but did give quite a few fellow students 'accidental' shocks with the promise of more serious injuries if the teasing continued. After this display of power, the other kids decided to leave the reserved girl alone. Loneliness built up for Alice and she longed for someone to spend time with.

This brought her back to farm country, where she got involved in a bit more rambunctious group of older teens that introduced her to the concept of a 'barn party' and alcohol in general. Once inebriated, Alice opened up to everyone and was a wonderful socialite, much to everyone's surprise. While she wasn't the life of the party, she was definitely more fun to be around and carefree.

At age seventeen, the intensive training had finally paid off and a letter arrived from the Vale Institute, inviting the young fire mage to further her studies at the elite school, which would put her one step closer to the fighting at the Isles. With pride, her mother and father sent her off to the prestigious academy and knowing that she would excel, if she only kept her temper in check.

Hey, guess what? We're making exceptions again, for similar reasons to the exception we made for Ozy.

We'll be waiting on Cersei to finish with SU polishing and such before we add Alice to the list, but like with Ozy, the majority of this was taken care of privately (and totally not on the Discord channel with all the players and everything, totally). ^-^

                                          And she's in.
