The Time Warp Challenge

After beating Cheren, I got the Habitat List from Bianca. Then on Route 20, I caught a Venipede, and named it Intoxicate. First one was Mild, second was Bashful (I play with a limit of three tries before I have to keep what I get). I beat the trainers and made it into Virbank City. On the way, the Nursery Aide with Dunsparce was scary with Defense Curl, but she used Rollout and I was able to beat it with Aura's Counter.

Then we were in Virbank, where Roxie argued with her dad, blah blah. I did a tad bit of training and went into the Complex, where I caught a Koffing that I named Smogon. First was Jolly, second (after over four minutes of searching and four balls of mine) was Gentle. The trainers were pretty annoying, I had to go back and heal after almost every fight, but I beat them all and got TM94 for Rock Smash.

When I entered the Gym, my entire team was Level 15, except Mite. I had Borky beat the first trainer, then against the secong he reached Level 17 and evolved into Pignite.

Then we got to the Gym Leader. I started with Intoxicate against her Koffing, and got her Defense to -4 before I barely did anything with a critical hit Rollout. I paralyzed her with Aura's Force Palm, and she used Venoshock but I lived and killed her with another hit. Grimer I hardly did anything to with Aura, so I brought in Mite and got in a quick Sand-Attack before she died. Then Smogon battered away at her with some Tackles while she went on against me with Venoshock. I got her below half before she killed me. She lived Borky's Flame Charge with 1 HP and disabled it before I killed her. Whirlipede I had to keep using Tail Whip, and Disable wore off just in time for me to kill her with a Blaze boosted Flame Charge. Ugh, tough fight. All I had left was Borky at 1/4 health and poisoned, and Aura at just under half. (And in case I haven't made it clear, I don't use healing items in battle.)

Once I was done there I went to Pokéstar Studios, watched Pop Roxie's horrible movie, and made a better one with Brycen, getting five Lemonades along the way. (Still not sure what the rule is on that…) Then I got Team Plasma out of Virbank City, and took the ferry to Castelia after Roxie and her dad made up.

I went to the Gym, where Iris found me and said Burgh has artist's block and took me over to the sewers (but not without me getting a few important items first). I didn't buy any Casteliacones though, because I can't sell to that vendor and I don't know what the rule is on that. I followed Hugh into the sewers and got rid of Team Plasma, then met with Burgh and Colress.

Before going to training, I did some biking to get Aura's happiness up, then sold an X Attack for some Repels and two Antidotes (my first time getting something from a Poké Mart). Aura evolved into Lucario almost right after. In the meantime, I caught a Zubat named Alpine and an Eevee named Revolver. Former was Brave, latter was Serious, both first try. I struggled to decide whether I wanted to evolve Revolver into Espeon or Umbreon, but you'll see my decision shortly. In the Relic Passage, I caught a Woobat named Dumbbat and beat the trainers.

I beat the trainers in the Battle Company and the sewers, then got back to training. I deposited Dumbbat though because she wasn't gaining happiness very fast at all. But Intoxicate, Revolver and Alpine evolved into Whirlipede, Espeon and Golbat respectively. Once everyone was Level 21/22, I got the Eviolite and Dowsing Machine and headed for the Gym. A few of the trainers took a bit of time, but I had Borky, Intoxicate and Aura handle them. My entire team was Level 22 upon reaching Burgh.

As for Burgh himself, I had Aura come out against his Dwebble and eat his attacks for breakfast while I kept using Force Palm and killed him. For Karrablast, I switched to Alpine and ate up an Aerial Ace then Headbutt, still having over half left while getting rid of his Hyper Potion and 2HKO'ing him. Leavanny missed with GrassWhistle but lived my Wing Attack with 1 HP and was bumped up from his Sitrus Berry, but I lived his Aerial Ace and killed him. Lastly, for Shelmet I switched to Revolver and 3HKO'ed him with Psybeam as all he did was use Curse. Then Alpine evolved into Crobat, which was pretty nice.

So I got the Insect Badge, and after that I left it off.

After beating Burgh, I went north out of Castelia City, running into Colress along the way. I beat him on Route 4 with Borky. Then I beat the rest of the trainers, some of them were a bit annoying but for the most part they were simple. I took ownership of Join Avenue, then got to Nimbasa City. I caught a Sandile in the Desert Resort named Gora and on Route 5, a Gothita named Drag and a Trubbish named Turkey. I decided after some thinking to leave Crobat behind for now and take Sandile so I could train for Elesa. In the Desert Resort, I caught a Sigilyph named Totem. There were a few trainers in the desert that were somewhat tough but nothing overly scary, except one trainer with a Sigilyph in the castle.

I then beat the Subway Bosses, who were slightly troublesome, and the trainers in Elesa's old Gym, and on Route 16 and Lostlorn Forest. One with an Emolga was a bit worrisome but not too much overall.

As for Elesa, to be honest she was a bit disappointing, because Zebstrika used Pursuit against Aura when she could've used Flame Charge, and was going to use it again while I was underground. A Ground Gem boosted Dig killed her after a hit from Return. I tried to give some even chances to the rest of the team, but for the most part I thought it was going to come down to the wire. I had two fainted Pokémon, two paralyzed and two that were really weakened at the end. The only one that got no screen time was Gora, ironically.

Then I got Team Plasma out of Nimbasa City, and took on the trainers on Route 5, including Charles, who was nothing hard either. I arrived in Driftveil City, and sold an X Speed so I could gain access to the market, and a Grip Claw at the Pokémon Center. Rood wasn't any real concern, then I was able to go to the Gym. But first I did some stuff on Route 6, including catching a Marill named Whirlpool and a Karrablast named Armora. I believe Ori said a little while back that I am indeed allowed to use Azumarill since it becomes Fairy in XY even though that type doesn't exist here. Took me forever to find a Karrablast that I knew would have Shed Skin, since it only has a 5% chance in Black 2, ugh. But I got it. I evolved them both into Azumarill and Escavalier, the latter by trading. I trained six members to Level 30 - Whirlpool, Revolver, Alpine, Intoxicate, Aura and Armora - before entering the Driftveil Gym. Intoxicate evolved into Scolipede, too.

Now for Clay himself. Krokorok was actually faster than Aura, but didn't use Bulldoze (instead using Torment) and was almost killed by Force Palm, but his Sitrus Berry restored health, then I brought in Alpine on his Sandstorm before killing him with Return. Onix got through my Confuse Ray and used Rock Polish then 2HKO'ed me with Rock Slide while I had a critical hit Bite that did around 1/4 his health before he killed me. Revolver took over 1/3 from Rock Slide, but I set up Reflect, then used Future Sight as I took 1/5 from his Rock Slide, then avoided another and killed him with Psybeam (which I had the TwistedSpoon backing). Sandslash lowered my Speed with Bulldoze before taking Psybeam then dying to Future Sight. Excadrill killed me with Slash, and Reflect wore off. Intoxicate got rid of his Sitrus Berry with Bug Bite before being 2HKO'ed, then Whirlpool took a Metal Claw easily and killed him from around 90% or so with Aqua Tail for the win. Revolver was arguably the MVP here, but Whirlpool was probably co-MVP for being my only real answer to Excadrill.

With that, I got the Quake Badge, TM78 for Bulldoze and an invitation to the PWT, but we'll check that out later.

With Clay having been bested, I went to the PWT. I beat the Driftveil Tournament, then we dealt with Team Plasma on the frigate; not too bad overall. I then went to the Relic Passage and gave Strength to Whirlpool so I could create some shortcuts. There were a couple annoying trainers there (especially one with a Swoobat that had Attract), but I got through it. I also stole the SilverPowder from Volcarona in the Relic Castle.

I made my way back to Route 6 and got HM03 for Surf from Cheren, but I didn't want to teach it to Whirlpool just yet. Then I sold a Thunderstone to the market (although I think I already sold something to both markets) and bought a few more supplies, including Repels. Chargestone Cave also had a few trainers that were harder than I thought.

I got through the cave, reached Mistralton City and got the Master Ball from Professor Juniper. None of the trainers on Route 7 or the Celestial Tower were really any hard, although I did take on one Psychic's Duosion with Revolver who had Light Screen/Morning Sun, and a Yamask that was a tiny bit troublesome for Whirlpool. Then I went to Mistralton Cave, realizing I never got Flash at Castelia, so I basically just got TM80 for Rock Slide, along with a few other items and left. I sold a Thunderstone at the Mistralton Pokémon Center so I could buy items.

Before taking on Skyla, I trained my team to Level 37, doing some mooching off the breeder on Route 7. I also taught Ice Punch to Whirlpool.

Then we got to the Gym Leader herself. Swoobat did around half to Aura with Psychic, but I lowered her Speed with Rock Tomb then killed her with Shadow Claw. Swanna killed Aura with Surf afterward. To my shock, she was faster than Revolver, but she only used FeatherDance first turn while I set up Light Screen. Surf did around 30% under Light Screen while Psychic (which I had the TwistedSpoon backing) was a 2HKO, even with her Sitrus Berry. When Skarmory came out I had 40% my health. I went to Armora and stole her Sitrus Berry with Bug Bite, knocking her around 1/2 after two rounds of Rocky Helmet damage. I went over to Whirlpool, who had the Mystic Water and was taking less than 1/4 from Aerial Ace. Aqua Tail came short of finishing her. She healed, and two more hits of Aqua Tail almost killed her. One more Aerial Ace, then I finished her with Ice Punch and was barely living. Sigilyph was last, and killed me with Flash Cannon. I went back to Revolver, and used Light Screen, as Air Cutter was a 3HKO from the health I had while two hits of Psychic knocked her below half. Then Intoxicate killed her with Rock Slide for the win.

I took the plane to Lentimas Town, and caught a Skorupi on Reversal Mountain named Razor. Then I beat the trainers in the Strange House. I didn't get anything at the Poké Mart because there was nothing there I was in major need of. I decided to leave Alpine behind because I just used a Crobat in my last BW2 play, and haven't used Drapion here before. Then I went through Reversal Mountain's cave. I spent over thirty minutes in there, I took on all the trainers and quite a few of them were nice challenges actually (especially the double battles). In doing so, Razor evolved into Drapion. Geez, I know White 2 super well, but as for Black 2, it's been a long time, haha. I made it out of the cave and into Undella Town.

I beat Hugh with little trouble, his Samurott was slightly problematic due to my low levels but still not that tough. I sold a Dire Hit to the Pokémon Center at Undella Town then bought a few items there. There were a few trainers on Route 14 and Undella Bay that were a bit challenging (especially the Triple/Rotation battles). Route 13 had some very annoying trainers, though. In the middle of it, I went back to the PWT and retaught Ice Fang to Razor, because that is something I want for the next Gym.

I reached Lacunosa Town, where I sold a Leaf Stone to the mart to get TM38 for Fire Blast, just in case I decide to bring back Borky. Hugh and I took care of Zinzolin and his rookie. Route 12 had nothing too significant, and Village Bridge had some rather underwhelming foes, although there was a slightly scary Lilligant with Quiver Dance, but Revolver busted that with a critical hit.

There was a Pokémon Ranger on Route 11 with Tympole and Palpitoad that used Rain Dance and messed with me a bit. I also killed Virizion just to get Razor more EXP, it wasn't hard at all for Armora, even though I forgot about Sacred Sword bypassing Iron Defense, haha. That made Razor the last of mine to reach Level 44. I arrived in Opelucid City, met with Iris who said some stuff about Drayden and my Pokémon, then I healed and stopped there.

After arriving in Opelucid City, I sold an X Sp. Def to the Poké Mart and bought a few Quick Balls. I went over to Route 9, battled the very bad men there, and caught a Muk on Route 9 and named it Vodka, and a Pawniard named King. I sold an Electric Gem to the Shopping Mall Nine. With my team around Level 44/45, I took on the Opelucid Gym. The trainers had some sneaky stuff but I made my way through all of them.

My entire team was 45 (with Intoxicate at 46) when I challenged Drayden. Druddigon was first while I began with Razor. He hit somewhat hard with Rock Slide and Ice Fang did less than half, but I used Hone Claws and boosted before he used Revenge for a small hit and took Rocky Helmet damage that knocked him to his berry. Ice Fang then flinched him. He healed, and I 2HKO'ed him. Flygon straight came out and finished me with Earth Power. Intoxicate 2HKO'ed him with Megahorn followed by Steamroller after taking 2/3 from his Earth Power. Altaria took less than half from Rock Slide and killed me with Fire Blast. Revolver almost killed him with Psychic, and he put me to sleep with Sing. I took two Dragon Pulses and woke up just in time to finish him off. Haxorus took well over half from Psychic, and his Sitrus Berry restored him to near half before he killed me with Dragon Tail. He only used Dragon Dance before Whirlpool finished him with Ice Punch.

I went to Drayden's house, he spoke of Zekrom and Reshiram before Team Plasma froze the city. I beat the grunts, Zinzolin and the Shadow Triad member without any real concern. Before going back to Undella Town, I went to Lentimas Town and spent my ten Blue Shards to teach Superpower to Intoxicate. Then I went through the Marine Tube and into Humilau City. I found the Gym Leader, who was swimming with the fishes, then sold an X Defend to the Poké Mart.

After that I went to Route 22. Some of the trainers there had strong stuff (notably one with a Darmanitan), but it wasn't anything too crazy. Once I was done that, I went back to the PWT and replaced Razor's Ice Fang with Thunder Fang. Then I went into the Humilau Gym. There were a few annoying trainers, but I didn't waste much time about here.

Upon challenging the Gym Leader, I had half my team at 47 and half at 48. This was an interesting fight. I began with Armora, and Wailord started by burning me with Scald and doing just under half. I got in two hits of X-Scissor because of the Quick Claw and him using Rain Dance before he killed me. I used Whirlpool next, and he burned that too. I knocked him low with Aqua Tail, then Bulldoze then Superpower before falling and barely coming short of him. I brought in Revolver, and he healed but Psychic was a straight-up 2HKO. Carracosta also took over half from Psychic, and his Sitrus Berry restored health. He used Shell Smash, but I was still faster and killed him thanks to the Special Defense drop. Jellicent 2HKO'ed me with Shadow Ball after I used Light Screen, and mine did less than half. Razor, who had the Expert Belt, killed him from 60% or so with Night Slash, then Mantine was slammed with Thunder Fang.

After me, Marlon and Hugh met outside, I went south to Route 21…but forgot the Colress Machine. I went back to Route 22 and got that, then OHKO'ed Terrakion with Whirlpool's Aqua Tail. I went through the Seaside Cave, which had some trainers that hit harder than I thought they would. Once I got to the Plasma Frigate, I beat some easy grunts and deactivated all the switches. Hugh and I took on Zinzolin and his comrade. Zinzolin's team was a bit annoying but not too terrible. We were booted off the ship, and I made my way back to Humilau City.

I went to the Giant Chasm, having to fend off some grunts. Once we reached the forest, Hugh got ex-Team Plasma to rally against Neo Team Plasma, and we entered the frigate. Once we were in the depths, I beat a few grunts, got the Plasma Card, and found out the password was 7707. Then I took on Zinzolin, his Cryogonals did try to fend me off with Confuse Ray but Razor got through them both.


After that was Colress. Magneton was first up, and I had Razor do half with Bulldoze before getting paralyzed with Thunder Wave and taking exactly half from Volt Switch. Magnezone came in next and was hit for around 2/3 before it killed me. Whirlpool finished that with Bulldoze. Klinklang did basically just over half with Thunderbolt, and Superpower came short. He healed, but my Bulldoze didn't do much at all from the stat drops. Whirlpool then died to Giga Impact. Aura finished him with Aura Sphere. Beheeyem was next, and I switched over to Armora for that. He used Calm Mind, but he used it again and X-Scissor was an OHKO. Metang was next, I avoided a Meteor Mash and did just under half with X-Scissor. His Meteor Mash hardly did anything and it was a pretty easy kill from there. I let Armora die to Magneton, and had Revolver finish him with Psychic for the win.

After Colress said some stuff, I went and healed. Then we entered Ghetsis' office, where he talked about Kyurem, and the Shadow Triad showed up. And we saw Hugh's Purrloin, which is now a Liepard. I then took on the Shadow Triad themselves, one had an Accelgor which was rather annoying considering Whirlpool missed with Aqua Tail, but it wasn't anything to really worry over.

After that, we came to the final depths of the Giant Chasm himself, with Ghetsis. You all know what happens here, he tries to kill me but N saves me, and then Kyurem fuses with Zekrom. Then I took on Black Kyurem, which only used Slash and I OHKO'ed it with a critical hit Aura Sphere.

Then we come to Ghetsis himself!

Cofagrigus tried to be a jerk with Protect, but Aura's Shadow Ball did less than half, Psychic did more than 1/3 and I avoided a hit because of the Lax Incense, but he healed. I then got the Special Defense drop and afterwards he was smacked.
Seismitoad took just under half from Aura Sphere and killed me with Earthquake, and a critical hit that no way did he need. I went for Whirlpool next, and his Earthquake did more than 1/3 while I used Bulldoze to be safe. Aqua Tail finished him, and of course I got the critical hit when it wasn't necessary.
Then he had Eelektross, who was faster and just cut to the chase with Thunderbolt, killing me. I went for Razor, and Crunch did less than half but so did his Acrobatics. I barely survived his Thunderbolt afterward, and the third Crunch was a kill.
Drapion was next and killed me with Poison Fang. I tried to let Intoxicate in on him, and Megahorn did over half, while his Night Slash did over 1/3. I killed him next turn.
Hydreigon was easily OHKO'ed with Megahorn.
Toxicroak was last. I went over to Revolver, and his Sucker Punch failed…then he killed me with a critical hit. I went to Armora, and my Quick Claw activated, allowing me to get in an Iron Defense, so his Brick Break only did less than 1/4. Then the Quick Claw activated AGAIN, and I had 2/3 my health after his second hit. Iron Head did enough for a 2HKO, his hits did nothing while I finished him off.

So Ghetsis rambled before the Shadow Triad took him off, N told me to go to the Pokémon League, and Hugh showed up a little late. I got a few items, including TM03 for Psyshock, in the Crater Forest's ruins.

Then I went to Route 23! There were some tough trainers here, and I got HM05 for Waterfall from N at Victory Road's entrance. I didn't spend much time on Route 23 though, because I just wanted to get to the cave. Before then, I did catch a Sawk which I named Olmec (Legends of the Hidden Temple shoutout ftw!) and considered dropping Aura for, but ultimately never used. Given how under-leveled I was, the trainers (who were all Level 58/59 thanks to Challenge Mode) were VERY annoying. There were very few that didn't provide at least somewhat of a degree of challenge. But there were some that I got lucky critical hits against, haha. (Including those two double battle Veterans…) So yeah, I had my fair share of doozies being thrown at me.

Hugh was last up. Unfezant used Swagger on Whirlpool, and I hit through confusion twice in a row and OHKO'ed both that and Bouffalant with Ice Punch and Superpower respectively, taking JUST over half from the latter's Wild Charge. Simisage did almost half to Armora with two hits because he flinched me with Rock Slide. Samurott almost killed me with Surf and took around 37% from X-Scissor. Revolver left him with a sliver of health, and I survived his X-Scissor with 7 HP. He healed, which allowed me to 2HKO him with Psychic and win.

I arrived at the league, and took the emergency supplies rule, and sold a Fire Stone just because. Then I went back and beat the last few trainers I didn't get previously. Now for the Elite Four!


Grimsley was first up. Liepard was 2HKO'ed with Crunch after some Rocky Helmet damage since I forgot to put X-Scissor on Razor. Krookodile was OHKO'ed with Whirlpool's Waterfall. Scrafty almost killed me but Waterfall did around half first, then Intoxicate killed him with Superpower. Absol and Bisharp were slammed by Aura's Aura Sphere.


Then I went for Caitlin. Musharna only used Charge Beam and Reuniclus missed with Focus Blast, so those two were easy for Razor, haha. Metagross took just under half from a +1 Crunch and killed me with Hammer Arm followed by Bullet Punch. Whirlpool finished that off with Bulldoze since her Speed was lowered. Gothitelle 2HKO'ed me with Thunderbolt but took over half from Waterfall, and Intoxicate killed that. Sigilyph killed Intoxicate, but took more than half and Armora was able to beat her from there.


Next we went to Marshal. First time I was about to fail because Espeon died way too early against Throh and it came down to the wire, so things didn't work out. This time, I started with something else - I began by poisoning him with Razor and weakening him a little bit, then Aura took a Bulldoze and he died next turn, but after a Psychic he was killed from poison. Armora did less than half to Sawk with Iron Head, so I sacked Razor so he'd take Rocky Helmet damage then let Revolver kill him. Lucario only used Calm Mind, making him an easy kill for Whirlpool. Mienshao took two hits to kill Whirlpool and I lowered his Speed with Bulldoze first, and Intoxicate got a few quick hits on him before Revolver killed both that and Conkeldurr (the latter from full health without a critical hit) with a TwistedSpoon-boosted Psychic.


Lastly was Shauntal, which I was really not looking forward to at all. I managed to get in four Calm Minds with Aura against Cofagrigus, which burned me, and I used Rest to restore health but took a Special Defense drop from Psychic. +4 Dark Pulse was an OHKO. Chandelure came next, and had the Choice Scarf, but she missed with Fire Blast (helps that I had the Lax Incense), and my Dark Pulse OHKO'ed that too. Golurk came out after, and used Brick Break as I switched into Whirlpool (just because I didn't want to sweep her with Aura; that'd be dirty), who took just over 1/4 HP. She used Earthquake, which I survived, and OHKO'ed her with Waterfall. Drifblim killed me with Psychic. Razor almost OHKO'ed her with Crunch, and she used Thunderbolt, which didn't do too much. She healed, I used Ice Fang then killed her next turn. Banette was last, and I went over to Armora for that so she could have a chance to fight. It was a tad long-winded since she burned me, but I used Rest and she wasn't doing much to me so I got her out of the way without much trouble.

Finally, we came to the Champion, Iris. This was very tough; first time, long story short I actually failed because it came down to Armora against Haxorus (and she still had Archeops), I got greedy and had +4 Defense with a Reflect up, and Haxorus got a critical hit Earthquake because of Mold Breaker, which negates Shell Armor, and it killed me and I failed. Second time, Intoxicate missed against Hydreigon with Megahorn, and I was killed with Fire Blast, so I reset. Third time…

Hydreigon was OHKO'ed by Intoxicate's Megahorn, with a critical hit that I did not need.
Aggron barely survived a Superpower, and missed with Head Smash. She healed, and Superpower did a little over half. I used Megahorn for no real reason, and she OHKO'ed me from -2 with Double-Edge. Aura came out and killed her with Aura Sphere.
Druddigon was OHKO'ed with a critical hit Aura Sphere. YEAH, COME GET SOME! That was some nice payback.
Haxorus came out and promptly smacked me with Earthquake. I brought in Revolver and used Reflect, leaving her Outrage to do around 2/3, then I used Psychic and knocked her low, she killed me and became confused. I went for Razor, and she hurt herself in confusion (serves you right!), allowing me to kill her with Crunch.
Lapras came out, and I used Toxic, and she missed with Sing. I used Crunch, which lowered her Defense and left her at half health after Toxic, but she hit with Blizzard and knocked me to 1/3 HP, and my Reflect wore off. I killed her with one more Crunch thanks to the Defense drop.
Archeops was last up and killed Razor with Stone Edge. I went to Armora, and the Quick Claw activated just to top it off, allowing me to OHKO her with Iron Head for the win.
