what game do you think had the best in-game sprites / models? do you have a particular favorite Pokémon sprite?

I REALLY love Crystal's Pokemon sprites. Like... out of every generation, I really think Crystal's sprites were genuinely the best ones. o.o

It's because of this that I love seeing pixel artists sprite newer Pokemon in old gen style... they look really amazing.

i like crystal's a lot, and I also adore the Gen 5 animated sprites. a group i surprisingly really like is the RSE sprites for FRLG-exclusive Pokémon. It's weird, but I'm not a huge fan of FRLG sprites, or RSE sprites for RSE Pokémon, but the RSE sprites for Pokémon transferred from FRLG always struck me as really cool. check out this cute RSE squirtle!

squirtle.png

i haven't thought about it extensively but my favorite sprite might be this Gen 3 Farfetch'd backsprite

Despite the Gen 6 sprites looking pretty good my favorite animated sprites are the Gen 5 ones, a few of my favorites being

A Gen 6 but I love this one

I'll never forget about my first ever game Yellow's (Actually first is Red, but I started Yellow first!) sprites.

    Spoiler:

^ And definitely Vulpix and Ninetales.
I had boxes and boxes of Vulpixs and Ninetales in my Pokemon Yellow from the game corner for no reasons.

gen 6 has no sprites, they're 3D models. same for 7. and tbh I really don't like them at all. in-game they look washed out and dull, on a page they look even worse.

Not sure which game's sprites I prefer, but my all-time favorite sprite is probably HGSS Lickitung. So adorable!

EDIT: Some others that have stuck out to me over the years...

      Spoiler:
Wigglytuff (Silver): (cutest Wigglytuff sprite out there, imo)
Moltres (Silver): (it just looks really majestic here)
Suicune (RSE/FRLG): (gorgeous and dynamic pose, other Suicune sprites pale in comparison)
Shiny Persian (FRLG): (the palette difference is more obvious than in other games, almost white)
Flareon (FRLG): (maybe I'd actually use my full-odds Shiny Flareon if its sprite/model still looked like this)
Wartortle (DPPt): (cool pose, but also makes the Shiny better since you can actually see the shell)
Vaporeon (HGSS): (really graceful and cat-like, the long sprite is different and refreshing)
Dragonair (HGSS): (seems more slender and elegant than other Dragonair sprites)
Alolan Sandslash (Sun/Moon): (I'm not a fan of the stock Sugimori art, but the in-game model looks so cool!)

I don't know, but I noticed today that Exeggutor has almost exactly the same sprite in Yellow and Gold.

I haven't really checked every Pokémon one by one but I'm pretty sure this is the only Pokémon that shares a sprite between Gen. I and II.
I thought that was pretty interesting.

Looks like Caterpie also has a fairly similar sprite between Red/Blue and Gold, but it does have a few significant differences on the head so it's not quite the same. Exeggutor is identical aside from minor shading changes.

For Red/Blue sprites Arcanine is probably my fav overall, though.

I love almost all the Crystal sprites, especially Raikou's, which is an update of the GS one. I really need to think about this though, a better-formulated answer will come.

This pose captures Eevee's adorableness perfectly.

This is a neat sprite on its own, but I have to give it a shout out for the posing + the animation. It's like
            "come and get some".

I like how it looks like Gardy is floating. Another great use of animation to make the sprite memorable.

Meowth is on all fours, which I find to be more realistic. I don't quite get why almost every sprite following it was bipedal, considering how hard Team Rocket's Meowth had to work to achieve this. Apart from that, I find this sprite cute, and like how it's the same pose as...

            Spoiler:

that card, which I got in the TCG GBA game as a bonus.

            Awesome backsprite

I really like how menacing Houndoom looks in these Gen 3 sprites.

I think I have to second Rainbow's statement about the 3rd Gen sprites. The Johto Pokémon look great as well.

And, I could keep going, but I think I should stop, haha cx

If it counts, My favorite was seeing Crobat in 3D when I played XD: Gale of Darkness

Other than that, I like the modern sprites the most (Gen 6/7)

I think Pokemon Silver has my favorite sprites. Crystal mostly adapted Gold's, so you don't see the different poses from Silver that often.

My fav might be Flareon who was drenched, then electrocuted. Flareon who is shooketh.

Soul Silver, high quality sprites and they look all so lively. I like almost every sprite in that game, it's a great game and a fantastic remake.

It's still my favorite game and will probably stay favorite forever or atleast for a very long time.
Only a 2nd Red remake could change my mind, we all know that it won't happen.
