Varys' Ultimate Monotype Challenge​



They told me I do too much Monotypes. I told them it's not enough.​

Welcome to my Ultimate Monotype Journey!​

I, Varys, vows to finish all monotype possible before I die. That will be my raison d' etre or however you spell that thing.

RULES:

1. You can only use a single type per run through (dual types are allowed as long as one of their types is of the monotype)

2. HM Slaves allowed to be use outside of battles, not inside.

3. I will only be turning the Exp. Share on during my Gen V run simply because of the difficulty in leveling there, with or without. Other games, I will be turning it off.

4. Challenge ends after defeating the Pokémon League for the first time.

5. By using a randomizer program, I removed any evolutions through trading prior to gen VI as I have no access to trading. Gen VI onwards is fair game (including ORAS)

6. As much as possible, I will only be using Pokemon introduced during that generation from hereon out. I will only be using Pokemon outside that generation if it is not possible to use a team of 6 Pokemon. Exceptions will be Flying-type Gen VII since I don't consider Oricorio forms as different Pokemon, and the Grass-monotype and Flying-monotype I have already accomplished.

So, as this log is starting midway. I would like to recap my Pokemon Mono-Water lol.

I had Croconaw, Quagsire and Slowpoke as my team and had just defeated Morty.

Before proceeding west of Ecruteak City, I tried to see if I could capture a Marill (lol at 1% chance) at Mt. Mortar. Achieved after a few minutes of looking. Caught him and named him Soap.

So, my journey proceeds on to Olivine where I got a Good Rod. Seems like a good place to backtrack to Newbark Town, show Togepi to Prof Elm and try to capture a Chinchou.

And it was a success! Spark is the newest addition to my team.

I will be grinding a few more levels so I can be ready for Chuck. Lol.

MONOTYPE: WATER UPDATE
HEARTGOLD


So I grinded Marill and Chinchou, trying to bring my team to around Level 30 before I take on Chuck. Grinding them was easy. Marill simply lounged around in Mt. Mortar, battling Geodudes and Zubats. Chinchou also did good time there, sparking Goldeens and Seakings left and right.

So I proceeded to the water route where I got carried away using my newly-evolved Lanturn. Ended up leveling him to 30 while the rest of my team is around 28-30. Oh well.

Decided it's time to try Chuck now. I led with Slowpoke, thinking that Confusion could do quick work of all the monsters in the gym but I was sadly mistaken. Eventually defeated the gym using a combination of all my Pokemon. No one really stood out lol.

So after that, I went back to Olivine City and cured freaking Amphy so I can destroy Jasmine. And I did. Mud Bomb Quagsire is a bomb lol. Went back to Mahogany and cleared all the trainers there. My team is slowly growing lol.

So I defeated the Red Gyarados and didn't catch it. Yeah, it sucks. But Gyarados is Gen 1 and I still can capture a Horsea for Kingdra for this generation so I will be breaking my rules lol. After that, I cleared the Rocket hideout in Mahogany and defeated Pryce using Azumarill and his newly learned Iron Tail from Jasmine.

I'm currently trying to free Radio Tower from the hands of faux-TR.

So I defeated the faux-team Rocket and liberated the Radio Tower yay. I'm on my way to Blackthorne City when I realized one thing.

Slowpoke needs a Water Stone to evolve (well, here anyway, since I removed trade evolutions lol)

Seeing as the Water Stone is only available at the bug catching contest at this point in time, I don't think will use slowking because of that hassle. I'm thinking of switching it up with Mantine? What do you guys think?

Well, it's a personal rule of mine to only use Pokémon introduced during that generation. And I'm reserving my last slot for Kingdra lol

Very quick update: I got a Water Stone now from the Pokethlon to evolve my Slowbro. Will be updating this again. :)

  • Caught a Dhelmise, nicknamed Sink
  • Caught an Exeggcute and evolved it to A-Exeggutor, nicknamed Super
  • Defeated Hapu
  • Cleared Vast Poni Canyon
  • Defeated Lusamine for good.
  • Master Balled Lunala
  • Went back to grinding
  • Took on the Elite Four. Hala gave the most difficulty with his Crabominable, then Olivia, then Acerola, then Kahili
  • Defeated Kukui, finding difficulty with his Incineroar
  • Defeated Tapu Koko and thus ending my grass monotype for good.
