So, sorry for the double post but I want to do this one with the whole show stuck in my mind xD

As I said earlier, SirBoglar gave me Golden Time. Overall I really enjoyed it, it had a strong story and characters, decent art/animation and a very pleasant surprise NO PACING ISSUES. It had it's flaws though. Kouko was nearly unbearable at some points, especially early on, and the semi-supernatural element kind of detracted from the series at times - especially from the ending which was otherwise really well done. It was definitely a solid series and one I recommend to others. I gave it a 7/10 on my MAL.

How's everyone else coming along with their contracts?

Kiznaiver was good. Probably goes in the Mari Okida FORCED DRAMA (!!!!!) category with a lot of people but I thought it was nice. Stayed on point, didn't waste an episode, can't complain.

So I was recommended One Outs by Johnny and...well, I certainly wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I am. I'm more than halfway through the series, and it's pretty much my first Sports anime. I mean, anyone who knows me knows my love for Inazuma Eleven which is a Sports show, even if it's a bit hyperdimensional, but save for an episode of Haikyuu, several random episodes of Suzuka, several seasons of Teekyuu (also known as the greatest Sports anime of all time), and the little bit of Captain Tsubasa that I watched, this is the first down-to-earth Sports anime that I've invested myself with.

And it's not like I don't know what Sports shows are like, but I suppose it's because of what I was expecting that I was caught off guard. The amount of time the show spends off the field is staggering- in that in the 15 episodes I watched, not a single one was without actual baseball happening and taking up the majority of screentime. This is surprising because it's pretty rare for a Shonen anime, to spend literally every episode of its run on the action, and I suppose it has its 25 episode runtime to thank for this, though even Haikyuu had its breather episodes.

My point being, it's a very digestible series because of its pacing. It never feels like one episode is going to lead into a boring or slow one, and if there's character to be developed, it's going to happen on the field (which must have been pretty great for the people watching while it was airing weekly, definitely). This isn't to say that the characters are particularly interesting or deep, because they aren't really, largely because Tokuchi, the protagonist, is the one who ends up being either the initiate or the responder to the action, and the rest of the team generally reacts to or goes along with his decisions. I don't think this is a flaw, though. Actually, I'd say the show takes this in stride, because despite this lack of emphasis on the entire team or character depth and the use of shallower character writing, it never feels like time is wasted. The teams' characters have just enough variety, both in how they emote and how they think, that they're easily identifiable, but at the same time they never feel boring, and this works solely because of where the action is focused: on Tokuchi.

Speaking of him, I wasn't expecting this to be a Game anime in the way of Yu-Gi-Oh (pre-Duel Monsters) or NGNL (if it were consistent), but it definitely is and that's where it shines. Tokuchi's a gambler, but rather than making his character a devious trickster who makes outrageous stakes, he's a devious trickster who makes outrageous bets and finds himself always bound to one outrageous, self-imposed stake. The difference being, it's not about what will happen if he loses, it's about what he'll do next. Each match is a psychological war made up of a series of psychological battles, and the excitement comes from how exactly Tokuchi both sets up challenges for others and knocks down those set up for both him and his teammates (the latter is generally the most interesting to watch if only because he protects them pre-emptively). Whether he'll win usually isn't too much of a question as generally when the team owner gets excited, things are actually going Tokuchi's way. You know how it is: bad guy cheers, good guy's safe. Good guys cheer, bad guy's safe. It's pretty standard Shonen. But it's how Tokuchi manages to set up and overcome these obstacles that makes it so interesting. And it's not as if Tokuchi never faces any problems of his own, because he does. Oftentimes I'd consider the games a war of attrition rather than one-sided (depending on the case).

But yeah, good stuff. Definitely plan to finish it, it has a pretty firm hold on my attention with no real signs of letting up.

I'm having trouble getting past the first 5 minutes of my contracted show.

While I'm sure the rest of the series is fine, the awkward situation "humor" brought up in the first 5 minutes of Golden Time is my kryptonite when it comes to my ability to continue on with a show. It's making me cringe so hard because I just do not find it funny and I experience secondhand embarrassment for the character in so many cases or I just want to yell at the character to "GET YOUR NERVES TOGETHER AND JUST ASK THEM THE QUESTION, DAMMIT. IT'S JUST ONE SIMPLE QUESTION YOU PSYDUCKWIT." I also have a hard time sitting through a gag that I can definitely see where it's going from a mile away because I've seen the gag too many times before.

Part of the cringing may be because I was very awkward and shy growing up and I sometimes see many past awkward mistakes I've made when awkward humor is used. I'm still awkward and shy now, but I give fewer psyducks.

Sorry for the late review! I actually finished mine weeks ago. But it is only six episodes, so it's not like that's too impressive.

My recommended anime was "Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora." This anime was extremely short, but in many respects this was a good thing. The story was simple and bittersweet. The characters were good, and the moonlit scenes are visually stunning, even with the show's art being slightly outdated.

The highlight of this show, however, is the ending. Spoilers withholding, it's obvious from the beginning that the ending is going to be a tearjerker. It's a hospital patient romance, after all. You can feel it coming from the very beginning. But you know what this show does? It looks at a character death and says, "Why does this have to be so sad? Does death really have to ruin the experiences you have with someone?"

This is a moral that I feel is important and rarely discussed. If someone were to tell me that my mother will die from sickness tomorrow, I would of course be very sad. But many in that situation would consume themselves with grief before the death even happened. Why do that? You still have time to cherish her now. You can be happy that you have her now. I'm not saying that you shouldn't feel sad at all. But if I were to cherish my mother today, and remember the joy that she gave me after her passing, her legacy and love would truly last forever. This anime taught you to find joy and love in a very sad situation, and I appreciated that very much. I'd definitely recommend this one.

Oh my god. Okay. *breathes* I just finished my contract to Genesis of Aquarion and my god, it was truly a journey.

There is a reason why I avoid mecha anime like the plague, and watching Aquarion reinforces my stance. Lipstick Vogue was not psyducking joking about it being so campy. XD

It took me so long to plow through the show because it was literally "Monster of the Week"/episodic with bare-bones plot progression (that's all encrypted in cheesy foreshadowing and Biblical-esque riddles from a blind wheelchair-bound girl and a lofty commander) and lots of character development (and I am being real lenient here) that appears to be good writing on paper, but unfortunately absolutely does NOT pay off. Why do I say that? Because literally the last three episodes just dumped the entire storyline on our heads and it turns out that the entire show was about literally three (or four, arguably) characters and everyone else was useless. And the plot twist and resolution could have been seen light years away. The CGI was cringe-y, the action dialogue was cringe-y. At least the OPs and the EDs were good, but I much prefer the first OP over the second. In short, Aquarion is a terrible homage to the older mecha shows

Overall rating? I'd give it a 6 at my kindest.

Despite the fact I obviously enjoyed it more I can't disagree with a lot of what you've said, it was a messy kind of beautiful.

The sequel has a Mari Okida romance plot thrown into the melting pot. You're getting that if we ever meet again.
