Even though I have Blue version downloaded on my 3DS, I feel much more motivation and drive to play Yellow version (that is, whenever I'm in the mood for it). Perhaps it's because I find it kind of fun to have Pikachu follow along with me, and I find the graphics a bit more visually pleasing than in Red and Blue.

But that's just me! Which do you guys prefer?

I've played both and honestly I prefer Yellow. The feel of having your starter always following you around as opposed to a Pokeball is a refreshing change frankly. Throw in Jesse and James for Team Rocket, changing up the Pokemon for certain Gym Leaders(Lt.Surge for example has a single Raichu as opposed to several Electric Pokemon) and sprucing up the GFX sprites makes for a compelling Generation 1 game.

Red/Blue. I don't particularly care much for the Pikachu that follows you. It's ok but like: it's Pikachu. It's the mascot of Pokemon... why must I conform?! Although there are a lot of benefits to Yellow... I just don't care for Pikachu lmao

Yellow had a few improvements, visually and some other stuff too I think? I never played the original RB games (!!) so I'm not sure on the details. Basically it was an upgrade from the earlier games though, and I prefer that to the previous ones. Pikachu aside, you get all three other starters too!

I prefer yellow version as well. On top of the graphics being more visually appealing, I love having my pick of which starters I want for my team. I usually don't do all three, usually depends on how I want my team to be spread. Regardless, yellow version has always been my favorite.

There's really no reason to play RGB over Yellow (even though I've played all of them and have played Blue more than Yellow).
Yellow has mini games, better sprites (for the most part), the ability to get all of the starters, harder trainers and more battles overall, and a better design for Cerulean Cave.
Plus it's nice getting to walk with your Pikachu <3

Definitely RB. I feel Yellow has a bit too much filler (?) for when I just want to play through a simple game without much interruption. The additions of Yellow feel a bit redundant to me and are only fun when I really feel up to it. Yellow also gives me less flexibility with creating a team because I don't have the heart to remove Pikachu from my team.

Yellow gets a major plus for having better sprites, though.

I'd take Yellow easily over Red & Blue.

Better sprites and overall visually better, plus the idea of (only one, but still) Pokémon walking behind you which we only saw back in HGSS since.

Yellow is more visually appealing and you get all three starters. I don't think you could get three starters in a game until HGSS when Steven would give you a Kanto and Hoenn starter at the end. And in Yellow you could get Surfing Pikachu which was awesome! Plus if you uploaded your starter Pikachu onto Stadium 2, It would have a lightball

I prefer Red/Blue for multiple reasons. One of them being that Pikachu really isn't one of my favorites, so I don't really care about the gimmicky things the Pikachu gets. I would have preferred to evolve it into Raichu if I could. Also another thing I don't like is that Yellow's sprite's coloring looks a bit washed out of something.

                Examples: or

And of course as Pokemon Blue was my first Pokemon game, it'll always hold a special place in me. <3

Pokémon Red and Blue all the way for me. I actually feel like the game is a bit more challenging for some reason. Also starting with one of the original three starters as opposed to a Pikachu is a huge plus for me.

Red/Blue. When I play yellow, I have to copy the anime team. It's killed the replay value a little for me.

I mean, you never have to do this. The game will let you use whatever team you like; you don't even have to use your starting Pikachu if you don't want to.

As for my own answer, I haven't actually played Yellow, so I'm gonna have to default to Red/Blue. There's something I like about the player character not being equivalent to an existing character from the anime with a defined main team. Besides, I find having a choice of three starters much more interesting than only having the option of getting Pikachu to start out with and getting all three later.

I actually would like to try Japanese!Blue at some point, come to think of it.

I'll start by saying that I have a special connection with Yellow, because I never owned Red/Blue. I did however, own Yellow and I love it.

That being said, I like Red and Blue better. Mostly because I like the option of choosing my starter and catching a Pikachu later rather than being forced to have a Pikachu. Also, the MissingNo. glitch isn't in Yellow, which also sucks. I'm not sure about the Mew glitch though, maybe it's in Yellow, I don't know, but I do the Mew glitch in every playthrough of Red/Blue.

While my first ever game was Yellow, I prefer RB. I always felt like Yellow really forced you to play with Pikachu and starters... Plus it was easier in my opinion (with Lt. Surge team's nerf and such things)

I know the game doesn't force me to, but I can't imagine playing without the anime team. My mind just wouldn't let me. I've played through 3 times and my team has been, Pikachu, Butterfree, Pidgeot, Venasaur, Blastoise, Charizard.

Yellow! Its the first game to introduce the concept of friendship and allow you to have a Pokemon follow you to interact with, even if it is only for Pikachu that is still a landmark that makes the world more intimate.

More story content is always a welcome feature for me with the addition of Jesse and James, plotlines that enable you to acquire all of the Kanto Starters, Blue stealing your Pokemon. It just felt like more of adventure. You got mini games, characters had makeovers and updated teams that felt more accurate and the overhaul of the Pokemon frontal sprite art is still pretty cute, Yellow has some of my favorites.

Yellow was my first Pokemon game. Because it offers more support for gameboy color I was able to experience gen 1 with some nice color additions, something a lot of fans missed out on and didn't get to enjoy till gen 2.

Yellow. You get stuck with a much weaker starter, and there's no Missingno. glitch to abuse, but everything else is an improvement. The sprites are way better, there's fewer glitches, and you can get all three of the Kanto starters. I also much prefer Blaine and (especially) Giovanni's teams in Yellow, and it was also fun to see the TRio following the protagonist around.

The lack of some of the more fun glitches in Yellow kinda ruins the experience for me, since that's most of the reason I play the Gen I games at all.
