Note: This is an original take on One Piece. No characters of the series exist here. Some of the same places may appear again, but this will largely be a new story in the One Piece universe.

Plot

In a world where piracy thrives, many great and distinguished foes of the Marines would emerge to challenge their rule. Yet none was quite as prominent as Morris D. Rallo. Rallo commanded the King Pirates, who were considered to be one of the great pirate crews of all time. Rallo was the Captain, and he was the Pirate King. This was acknowledged by everyone (pirate or navy), and anyone who challenged him always met the same fate. Rallo would gain allies and territory all across the sea, but most especially in the Grand Line. Eventually, Rallo controlled or was allied with half of the territories of the world. This frightened the World Government, which saw Rallo as a genuine threat. But they also feared challenging him, because if they lost, there was no telling what would happen to the balance of power.

This all changed when a strong-headed new Fleet Admiral was elected by the name of Bronso Kanaru. Kanaru was said to be fearless, impulsive, and instilled with a powerful sense of justice. He couldn't sit by as so much of the world sat under the control of a pirate. With that in mind, he started a brutal campaign against Rallo. It began as smaller strikes against his allies, but then escalated to targeting everything connected to him. The World Government, with Kanaru in the helm, declared war on the King Pirates. And with the two sides having footing in most of the world, but particularly in the Grand Line, very few places were safe from the conflict.

The campaign by Kanaru lasted for nearly three years, but after a brutal effort, Kanaru finally cornered he who was thought to be undefeatable. In a climactic battle off the coast of Muerta (an island deep in the Grand Line), the Navy managed to destroy the flagship of the King Pirates, the Great Royal. Rallo, along with most of his crew, was also said to have been killed in the final conflict. The only known member said to have survived was Rallo's first mate, Alexander "Throne" Sivers. Sivers was taken alive, and was held in captivity for weeks, so that he would be publicly executed as an example. This would usher in, as Kanaru suggested, "The End of Piracy".

What happened instead was something they didn't foresee. At the execution grounds in Loguetown, Sivers spoke his last words. To the gathered crowd which poured from not just around the city, but from all over the world, these were the final words of Alexander Sivers.

"This is the end of the King Pirates, but it's not the end of piracy! No, it's just the beginning! You want fame? You want treasure? You want land? You want freedom? You want One Piece? Go out and take it! The world is open to you!"

Every pirate heard his message on that day. Indeed, the era of the King Pirates was over. But just creeping out over the horizon was a new era which would see piracy exponentially rise. With half of the world, including most of the Grand Line, now up for grabs, pirates set sail to gain territories, to seek their fortunes, to make names for themselves, and to find the true meaning of freedom. The Golden Age had begun.

You

It has been a week since the execution of Alexander "Throne" Sivers, the right hand of the Pirate King. His last words had stirred something in you. Whatever your reasons, you are a pirate in Loguetown about to head off to the Grand Line. Here, you will find a crew, find a ship, and begin your adventure!

Rules

  • All RPC and PC rules apply.
  • No godmodding or bunnying, unless given permission.
  • This RP is rated T for Teen.
  • Have good grammar and spelling, as well as correct length in posts. We might require RP Samples.
  • Only one character is allowed per person. NPCs are for the GM's use only, unless specific permission is given.
  • There is an unlimited number of reservations. However, this is not a first come, first served RP. Character Sheets will be open for about a week or so, depending on interest, and then decisions will be given then. So really, there are no reservations, but you can still reserve. Yes, this rule is very confusing. Just ignore it. Actually, don't ignore it. You'll just get bonus points for pointing it out. And a cookie. Devil Fruit cookie.
  • Keep on track with the storyline. Making your own subplot is fine, and we will be as accomodating as we can with free reign within each new place we visit. Just keep in mind that you don't derail too far from the main story. If you do so, we may choose to remove you from the RP.
  • Try to post at a reasonably consistent basis (based on the progression of the RP, of course). Obviously, your life takes priority, so if you know you are going to be absent, away, or unable to post for whatever reason, please let us know somehow so we do not drop you from the RP.
  • Because of the RP, it is more than likely that characters will confront each other in combat. If/when those instances should arise, we expect maturity and poise in dealing with the way a fight should end up, whether by pre-agreement or general RPing etiquette.
  • One of the most important things to do in this RP is to have fun. Arguments will not be tolerated (this is not to say that discussions are not allowed, in fact they are encouraged), but generally impeding the ability of one or others to have fun in this RP will be ground for said person to be removed.

Gender:
Epithet/Nickname: (List one, even if your character is a new pirate, as they will gain an epithet later when they get a bounty)
Appearance: (A picture would be preferable as we would use it to create a wanted poster, though a description may also be given)
Personality:
History:
Devil Fruit/Equipment/Weapon: (Whether a Devil Fruit user or not, list what abilities/equipment/weapons your character possesses. Try to describe it in some detail, especially if its non-canon.)
Goal/Dream: (Something every character should have. This can be anything that he/she strives for, or something he/she wants to achieve. For example, in One Piece, Monkey D. Luffy wants to become the Pirate King. Roronoa Zoro wants to become the world's best swordsman. Be creative here!)
Other/Quirks: (In One Piece, almost every character has a strange quirk that is apart of their character, a 'thing', if you will. For example, Zoro has his terrible sense of direction. Nami has her love of money. Brook has his bones jokes. Franky has his catchphrase "Super!" and pose. Not required, but recommended.)
Current Bounty: (Because we're starting off in Loguetown, it is alright to already have a bounty, though it is not required. If you do choose to have one, please make it below 50,000,000 beli/beri.)

"Nightmares only exist in your dreams and right in front of you."
Name: Reaper K Leon
Age: 33
Gender:Male

Epithet/Nickname: The White Haired Demon

Appearance: http://safebooru.org/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=207305 No, he never wears a shirt and he stands at 6"6

Personality: Leon is stoic and brash. He speaks with a growl that even a wolf would tremble to. He does not tolerate losing and treats each fight as if it was to the death. He presents himself proudly and powerfully, just standing near him can feel like a challenge. He is devoted to his captain, and becomes protective of his crew. Though he never respects a coward, and will quickly drop his loyalties if he believes his leader to be one. He loved his daughter and wife back home.

In a battle Leon is a monster. Civilians are not safe from him, and if the order is not given to specifically save lives, he will not hesitate to kill them if it will further his or his captain's goals. This places him more as a villain, as he will often destroy towns to kill a target or get to a captured comrade. His fighting style is quick and deadly, although he doesn't utilize the effect of his fruit power that steals shadows, he does use his own shadow to switch places with during a fight and also to fight along side him. His sycthe is his main weapon, its main use is to cause fear in the enemy, it is only practical against those much less skilled than him. His katana is used when an enemy proves to be on equal footing. In his mind, if he uses his katana, he is giving his opponent a great honor.

History: Leon was originally a shipbuilder as a teenager and a young adult. He married a woman, and had a small child. He valued life and lived happily until he was 23. During his 23rd birthday, pirates raided his village. They took everything the village had, and attempted to take Leon forcibly as a shipbuilder. He only agreed in order to prevent them from taking his family instead. For four years he worked as a slave on their ship, unable to watch his child grow up. On the fourth year, the crew came upon a very valuable treasure. The Kage Kage no Mi had been pillaged from a naval ship, and the captain held a celebration in order to initiate himself. The party was cut short as they were attacked by two other naval ships. They were fired upon and boarded, and in the commotion, his captain was defeated and arrested. Leon was able to escape with the fruit, his life, and a small life boat.

His life after that was rough. He had become so hungry that he eventually consumed the fruit, and gained its abilities. He spent two years searching for a pirate crew who would take him in, with hopes that one day he would be able to return to his village. When he found one and made his way back, his wife had remarried and his child had forgotten him. Devastated, he decided to become a pirate permanently.

Over the years leading up to this day, he has been with three other pirate ships, the first abandoned because his captain was considered cowardly, and the final one was completely killed by the very same captain who took him from his family years ago. "The only reason I am leaving you alive." The man said, "Is because I know your life is more painful than any afterlife I could send you to." With these words, the captain had taken Leon's life again.

Leon knows the captain will search for The One Piece, and he will follow.

Devil Fruit/Equipment/Weapon: Kage Kage no Mi, also uses a scythe and a katana.

Goal/Dream: To be the most feared man on the seas and to kill the captain that took his life.

Other/Quirks: -Favortie food is bread
-His last name is not his actual last name.
-He dislikes the taste of lobster
-Can build and repair a ship
-Can be on par with a master swordsman (but would eventually lose due to a lack of specializing.)
-Cant cook, tries to cook
-Often speaks without using titles, and can be very blunt.

Current Bounty: 49,000,000
-Murder -Destruction of Property
-Arson -Thievery
-Piracy -Excessive Loitering

I wish to reserve a spot

Over the years leading up to this day, he has been with three other pirate ships, the first abandoned because his captain was considered cowardly, and the final one was completely killed by the very same captain who took him from his family years ago. The captain of this ship was only 19 years old, and had convinced him to join because he had come to the aid of a civilian during a bar scene. The kid was a brave boy who had a somewhat similar past to his own, a family taken by pirates. The rest of the crew were as loyal as Leon was to the boy, and they sailed the seas, careless and free. Leon never asked the kid what his goal was, and the kid never asked him what his was. Life had become comfortable again until they were slaughtered in an ambush. His old captain had been sprung from prison and had spent years tracking down Leon for stealing his fruit.

"The only reason I am leaving you alive." The man said, "Is because I know your life is more painful than any afterlife I could send you to." With these words, the captain had taken Leon's life again. He was left in a lifeboat to float for days with minimal food.

Leon knows the captain will search for The One Piece, and he will follow. His lifeboat has drifted to Louguetown and he is looking for a captain and food.

@heretostay123- Alright, you're reserved.

@Khawill- Do you mind re-uploading your link for your picture? For some reason, it redirects me to the safebooru main page. Once you do that, we'll look over your SU fully. Thanks!

@Everyone- Also, just a note to keep in mind: There is no actual crew yet. The forming will commence once the IC begins. For now, you're in Loguetown on your own (or with others, such as a different crew or friends, depending on your backstory).

I've never been much into the actual anime/manga series of One Piece, but I love the idea of it and think it would make a great RP. Since the last one I was in never even made it to the IC I think I may give this a go.

Just to clarify though, does this mean we are all a part of the same crew?

@gimmiepie- Yes, we're all going to be apart of the same crew. Obviously that crew hasn't formed yet, but it will! We also don't really have a name for it yet, so we might leave that up to the RPers to decide if they choose to.

Here's a place holder for now, it's almost done though.

Name: Skellen Bridges (Bridges L. Skellen, call him Skellen though)
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Epithet/Nickname: (The) Taipan
Appearance:

vca1j90.jpg

Skellen is a pale-skinned young man standing at a relatively tall height of six feet. He is of a toned, but thin, build and possess angular features. Skellen has narrow, rather piercing black eyes that when coupled with his small pointed nose give him a slightly sinister snake-like look. Skellen's hair is jet black and rather long reaching a ways down the back of his neck, hanging around his ears and worn with a long fringe that almost reaches his eyes. Skellen is always cleanly shaved and despite the dangerous times has unblemished skin.

Skellen's typical attire consists of simple black trousers and shoes with a white button-up shirt which he wears with the top button or two undone. He is also frequently seen wearing a long, fairly thick, brown coat open over this attire. The inside of his coat contains several pockets (a few of which that are concealed) in which he keeps some of his equipment, similarly he will often carry a matching brown satchel with him also. Unlike many others Skellen does not carry any visible weapon with him (although he certainly has some at his disposal), although he does know how to use pretty much anything if he has to.

Personality: Skellen possesses two very distinct sides to his personality that appear at random and even overlap occasionally.

A lot of the time, especially when in public, Skellen appears to be a very jovial and carefree person. He will often make sarcastic remarks and will gladly partake in drinking, partying and merry-making. He will often make sarcastic jabs at those around him, or will otherwise employ humour in his conversations (frequently at the expense of other albeit).

The other side of Skellen isn't nearly as much fun to be around. Skellen can become very serious, dark and brooding and when made too angry can become border-line psychopathic or sadistic. Thankfully these moods usually strike him when he is either alone, or in a situation that calls for him to be more serious. He tends to seek to calm himself through being alone with his interests or taking out his aggression on something, both work it simply depends on which he feels more like at the time.

Skellen likes a challenge and has on occasion been involved in gambling - especially on street fights (which he may be participating in) - and loves to win. This being said he is prepared to take a loss should it serve him well later on. Behind is zany antics, brooding moods and confusing personality Skellen is actually very calculating and intelligent. He is good at thinking on his feet, learns quickly, is diligent and is very knowledgeable in several areas (not quite so good at tact in a lot of cases unfortunately).

Skellen is extremely interested in chemistry, biology, medicine (and poisons) and martial arts. This combination of skills has lead to not only incredible accuracy but has also given him an excellent knowledge of the human body as well as of various potent chemicals and how to obtain them. This skill set allows him to be useful as a scientist, doctor and as an assassin (making up for his lack of brute strength).

History: Skellen spent his childhood on the small Grandline island of Eden. The only child of two notable doctors, Skellen had always been surrounded by medicine and chemistry and as such he was fascinated by his parents work. Especially in their work with toxins and antivenoms (despite the name "Eden" several of the beautiful plants and animals found only on the island are venomous). As such, Skellen spent a lot of his time as a child accompanying his parents on the less-dangerous jobs they took part in and did a lot of his own research in the subject. A fast learner, by his early teens he was almost as knowledgeable as his parents – although they didn't recognise this, he was only a child after all (something that irritated him somewhat as he always became skilled in what he studied hard at).

When Skellen was at the age of fourteen his beloved home of Eden became the temporary resting place of a rather infamous pirate crew, nothing particularly new as several less well-known crews has stopped there briefly before. This was much the same, during their stay the pirates were friendly and caused little trouble, a tad rough sometimes and a rowdy bunch but not as bad as they were believed to be it seemed. Unfortunately, their notoriety led the Marines to follow them to Eden. In a brutal battle the pirates were ousted. Yet the marines remained.
Corrupt, vicious and domineering the group of marines set up a base of operations on the island to "apprehend pirates attempting to rest there", which really meant to laze around, cause trouble for Eden's natives and demand money for their protection. The marines would destroy buildings, brutally assault those whom "weren't grateful for their protection" (meaning "didn't give them Belli) and were generally cruel to the people of Eden. By the time Skellen was sixteen the natives of the island had more than had enough of the marines. A group of the island's men and women launched a rebellion, Skellen's parents treated both sides of the skirmish that ensued (at this point Skellen would have happily joined in the attack himself had his parents not prevented it).

Unsurprisingly, the rebellion was crushed by the marines. But that doesn't mean that there were no shocks left for Skellen. His parents were both killed by the marines due to their giving medical aid to rebels – even though they remained neutral and provided it to marines also. This was the last straw and finalised Skellen's hatred of the world government and the marines working for them. Several weeks after the death of his parents, Skellen initiated his own one-man rebellion. Using his knowledge of poisons and his impeccable accuracy he infiltrated the base of the marines, killing any that stood in his way until he was able to do what he had come for. Covering many of the marines' boats as well as their main base in various flammable chemicals Skellen set fire to them resulting in several small explosions and a tremendous blaze. As almost every marine on the island died Skellen sat on an ornate chair – a remnant from one of the boats or buildings he had destroyed – floating in the slightly warm water watching the destruction. During the next day he fled the island with as many of his supplies as he could gather and a bounty now on his head.

Ever since his escape from Eden, Skellen has worked as an assassin (although he has done anything he could really to scrape the money to survive… these days he is rather wealthy for one person who has to frequently travel). Skellen spends most of his time tracking down high ranking members of the marines or world government and seeing to it they die. That being said, he isn't above obtaining the bounties of his fellow criminals should he need the money.

Weapon/Equipment: Skellen is an expert on medicines, poisons and precision and as such is prepared to utilise these skills in many ways. In his many pockets and his satchel he carries an assortment of various knives, scalpals, needles, capsules of poison and medicines and other similar supplies.

Goal/Dream: Skellen has two goals. The first is to bring an end to the reign of the World Government, especially the navy. The second is to discover as many effective medicines and poisons as he can (and to use them on the appropriate people).

Quirks: Other than having two very different sides to his personality, Skellen has a tendency to have rather bad luck. Trouble seems to always know where to find him. He also has a tendency to talk to his plants (or any poisonous animals he is keeping at any given time).

Current Bounty: 35 000 000 Belli

Crimes:
-Murder
-Arson
-Vandalism
-Piracy/Theft
-Terrorism

Other: He has a tendency to keep various plants, sometimes poisonous animals.

FINISHED!!!

Hey guys. Your other GM speaking. Glad to see there is so much interest so far, but I just wanted to say a few things.

@gimmiepie:
Looking good so far. I actually rather like the character myself. So finish up the history so SV and myself can discuss everything and make a final decision.

@heretostay123:
Before you get too much into your SU, you are going to have to change your Devil Fruit as the Pika Pika no Mi is taken by an already as of yet unnamed NPC. They are plenty of Devil Fruits out there to choose from and SV and myself are more than willing to help you think of a Devil Fruit if you want it. Sorry about that.

@Everyone:
I just want to make a note about bounties, they will go up as the RP progresses and your character does not necessarily need one. None of the characters in the manga/anime have one at the start and it is a great thing to watch them grow as the story progresses.

Also, what's with everyone having murder under the bounties? Does everyone have to be murdering psychos? haha xD

Stonewall H. Mason, Age 21 Male Craftsman

Profile

Nickname - Divine

Appearance - Standing tall at around 6'2, Mason is a rather muscular, slightly thick character. His skin is something of a dark tan color, accented by his jet black hair that barely covers his narrow, dark brown eyes, and in the back it falls halfway down his back in a ponytail. He wears old, finger-less gloves that are stitched at the seams on his slightly soot colored hands. Over a black shirt he wears a pendant and a jinbaori (a type of jacket, generally worn by generals in the Warring States era), both of which bear the crest of the Divine pirates: a detailed illustration of the moon in the mouth of a jolly roger skull and crossbones. He wears a pair of black pants on his lower half, as well as tabi and black socks.

Mason is a well-built character, making up for his lack of a blade with raw strength. As a result, he wears bandages on his midsection, as well as on his forearms (though not on his fists). He isn't the friendliest looking fellow, having narrow eyes and deep voice as he does, and this is mostly a misdirection, though an unintentional one. He often looks angry, even when he's making a straight face (this wasn't a characteristic that he had as a child so much as it was a developed trait). The Celestial Scabbard is placed on Mason's hip. Unlike most scabbards, the Celestial Scabbard is hooked to his hakama for easy access, which is a necessity since the scabbard itself is his only weapon.

Personality - Despite how he looks, Mason is something of a cheerful fellow. He doesn't talk unnecessarily, though what he deems unnecessary depends on the situation. He isn't annoyed by people who talk a lot, either, and actually enjoys being around those who are social as it helps him feel less self conscious about his own social shortcomings. This isn't to say that he can't talk, or even that he's shy, far from it. Due to a traumatic incident when he was younger, talking became less of a pleasure and more of a necessity, and even as things normalized, he still held on to that notion, though not of his own choice.

Still, he is highly defensive of others and incredibly affectionate, though not in the most forward manner. Mason is in no way a hero-complexed person and many would say that his morals could use a wash in some holy water at times. He can be a little quick with the scabbard, sometimes choosing to fight rather than opting for diplomacy, though only in cases where diplomacy would only prove to be more of a chore than simply skipping to a fight. With this said, Mason loves quotes and anecdotes and often uses them to his advantage, making diplomacy one of those aforementioned necessities. As far as battle morals go, Mason believes in only going as far as is necessary for any given individual. This wasn't so much a choice as it was a necessary compromise, largely due to the fact that he used a scabbard as a weapon.

Mason's an ambitious fellow, and a prideful one at that. His mind is mostly, if not always preoccupied with thoughts pertaining to his siblings. He never forgets where he came from, nor those who he grew up with, and as such, he generally puts his goals before anything else...or he would, but he was taught that a single-track mind is a dull one, forcibly making him an open-minded individual. This doesn't keep him from indulging in crafting simply for the fun of it. It's his favorite pastime, specializing in blades and accessories, but having general knowledge in most fields.

History

Mason was orphaned as a child. There was no real tragedy behind it that he knew of, and the way put it, he wasn't brought up by parents so much as he grew up with others. Five others, in fact, and all of them were a few years older than him, the oldest being a girl who was around 10 when he was only a baby. It was unlikely that five kids could bring up a child on their own, especially considering that they had no home and no place to go. They called themselves pirates, each with their own dreams and ambitions, and they considered each other sworn siblings. They were the Divine Pirates, and they're saying was a simple one, "Reach for the stars." They're leader was was the eldest child, Blackwell August, often referred to by the others as "sister", and by Mason as "Mom". August gave the Divine Pirates a name, as well as renown. Being children as they were, it was nigh on impossible to create a crew that used power to get along, but August had an ace in the hole.

The Kieru Kieru no mi fruit was given to August by her mother. It was an accident, simply a snack one day, her mother being completely unaware of what the devil fruit actually was, she'd simply assumed that it was some type of melon. Shortly after taking a bite, August started to dry heave. She ran over to her mother and buried her face into her mother's skirt. Then, as if her mother had pulled away coldly, August's head was suddenly unsupported, and her mother was nowhere to be seen. She called for her several times, but to no avail. She called for her father, hugging him on arrival. She started to cry about how her mother was nowhere to be found, but right in front of her eyes...And her neighbor's. Considered a demon by those in her village, she was run out of this village. Even she was truly unsure of what was happening, why her parents disappeared, and why the village called her a demon. It wasn't until she met a navy officer that she truly understood what was going.

He looked at her with compassionate eyes, took her gently by the hand, and that was the last she saw of him. Her hand hovered over her mouth in shock, and eyes were wet from the same feeling. She made those people disappear, and she was the monster. She came to realize that she could make people disappear by touching them with her hands, and because of that she wore gloves most of the time. August became like a myth, a wandering apparition that was known to spirit people away. She was a sympathetic person when it came to other children of unfortunate circumstance. She knew what it was like to be denied of a parent's love. That was why she created the Divine Pirates, and that was why she took Mason in.

With the help of August and the others, Mason easily adapted to pirate life. Rarely did they ever stay in a single place and they always seemed to have somewhere to go. It was, needless to say, mostly a nomadic life in the beginning. They were pirates to the very core, though they didn't pillage or kill. It was important to August that the children be brought up with safely and without a taste for blood, which was why she would conduct most of the business herself rather than putting the children (or others) in danger. Though Mason became a true pirate that could truly stand on his own two feet at the age of 5, he was never really sure exactly why she was so feared. She was very careful not to reveal her ability to him. Whenever he asked the other members, they would always bear a hearty smile and say, "Because sis is the strongest." That was exactly what he believed, too. He had no reason not to, after all, she seemingly steamrolled all of the problems in path. There was nothing she couldn't do, and this inspired him to become as powerful as her.

At the age of six, Mason found a book on swordcraft called "Swift Iron 101". In the beginning, it just seemed as if Mason was just being a child and doing it for fun, but then he started to ask August and the others for books. Normally, this wouldn't have been taken completely seriously...but then he created a pendant for August that had the Divine Pirates' insignia on it. He was serious about this, and she was now ready to endorse him. The crew didn't have any sort of engineer, mainly because they didn't an actual pirate ship so much as they did a sailboat. As such, Mason took the position and started taking various jobs, both for the Divine Pirates and others. August was starting to realize that she didn't just have a family, she had a pirate crew, and she needed to start acting like a captain on top of being a sister and a mother. One day, she came back saying that she "found" a deserted ship, and from then on, they sailed the high seas.

Mason turned ten, and he'd realized he still didn't have a weapon for himself. The others had weapons, and more, the others were good with them (though, they were rarely given the chance to use them). As always he turned to August who always gave sound advice, and she told him, "If you're lost and don't know where to go, return to the beginning." Then she left. At the time, he didn't know what she meant. He rarely did. August would always give him anecdotes and metaphors that he would have to figure out on his own, which was no doubt good for him, but also tended to be frustrating. Upon returning to his room, he found the book "Swift Iron 101" on his bed. Thus, he decided to take on swordcraft once again, starting from the Scabbard. August always told him that if he wanted a weapon, it would have to be completely and totally of his creation.

When he created his first scabbard, he was met with incredible scrutiny by the other members, even by August. They were pretty brutal, telling him all the things that were wrong with it and what he should do better. This was strange, as most of the other things he made were met with praise. He tried again, and again, and again. Despite how the others scrutinized it, he couldn't help but become more proud of his scabbards after each attempt. A year after his first attempt, Mason presented his final attempt to August. She looked it over thoroughly. He was practically dripping with sweat, as her word was law. It was a decorated scabbard that was glorious enough for a king yet dark and most enough for a pirate. She handed it back to the nervous craftsman saying, "Truly a scabbard fit for the blade of a Divine Pirate."

Mason was overjoyed, but August quickly assured him that creating a blade to compliment a scabbard of that quality would be nigh on impossible, and it would be far more than simple trial and error. Mason was determined, however, and he was going to create such a blade so that he could become something of worth to the Divine Pirates.

That was his plan, anyway.

When Mason was thirteen, he finally asked why August always wore gloves. She knew she couldn't hide it from him anymore. She told him about her power and what happened to her parents. She told him about the navy officer, as well as the countless other people whom she'd made disappear since becoming a Divine Pirate. She talked about several accounts of people- pirates, marine, and innocent- in detail. This was the first time Mason ever saw his mother crack. It was frightening. She didn't quite look sad...in fact, she was smiling, but tears streaked down her face at the same time while grasping her arms in pain. It was as if she had been caught between several emotions and she wasn't able to deal with it. Mason had to wonder if the others ever talked to her about it, because she recounted everything in a slow and often sporadic fashion, as if it was her first time ever really talking to anyone about it. It was as if she kept it all boxed in for the past 13+ years, and grew. It was breaking her.

One day, the Divine Pirates were out to go find food when they were met with a firing squad. They weren't all under arrest, and in fact, the only one they were after was August. She was under arrest with a staggering

10,000,000 bounty. She was charged with literally hundreds of accounts of murder. Anna-Marie, one of the Divine Pirate members, wouldn't have it. She charged at them...and they fired. Anna died almost instantly. The other pirates were shocked, but August...she was paralyzed. Her little sister was just killed right in front of her eyes, and while she thought she would be able to take witnessing such a death like a rock, it felt as if she'd been torn into two. The marines kept their sights on pirates, not showing any remorse for the dead teen.

The others started to charge, but they were stopped cold by the melancholic screech of their dear foster mother. "STOP!" She yelled. "I...I'll go. Just don't hurt my brothers and sisters!" The others looked a her shocked. She gave them everything, so they would gladly give their lives for her. But she wouldn't have that. She looked over her crew- or rather, her family. She was overcome with pride, and at the same time, overcome with grief over the one who was lost. She'd succeeded in raising them, but she'd failed in protecting them. With the guns trained on her, August raised her hands and stepped forward. A shot rang out. Ylvic, who had rushed to her aid, lay limp on the ground. Then Elric. Then Asta. Soon, the only one left was Mason. The tears August shed that day were enough to fill the grand canyon, and at this point, she truly was broken. Her legs wouldn't move, her expressions were seemingly absentminded. Rather than taking advantage of this and capturing her, however, the soldiers sat quivering behind their barrels. No one actually knew of the Kieru Kieru no mi fruit, not even August. She was, as far as the world knew, a vengeful spirit said to spirit people away.

August turned to the soldiers, and they almost simultaneously gasped in horror. Some of the soldiers dropped their guns and ran away, as her face looked far more dead and terrifying at this point than anything a myth alone could produce. Mason aimed to help her, as his siblings did, but something caught his leg as he headed towards her. It was Asta. She, nearing the end of her life, told him that fighting wasn't any use and that, like everything else, August was doing this for him. To prove this, Asta handed Mason a pendant. It was similar to the one that he made for August, but this particular one was an attempt by all of his siblings to show that they appreciated his work. Promptly after handing him the pendant, Asta told Mason that he needed to run, and so he did, reluctantly. He ran, and he ran. Then, a bang. And then another. Tears fled from Mason's eyes as he left the battlefield as the last known surviving member of the Divine Pirates.

Even without the aid of his sibling, Mason took care of himself. He no longer had a ship, and the death of his family practically made him a man of silence. He didn't speak much outside of necessity, something that didn't change all too much as he aged. As a tribute to the lost Divine Pirates, Mason continued to try to create the perfect blade for his scabbard. He ended up in Loguetown chasing a rumor that he'd heard about the Celestial Spirit having reappeared, and that is where is new journey began.

Other Information

Weapon - Celestial Scabbard

Goals - Mason aims create a sword worthy to be sheathed into his scabbard. He also wants to find out about the Celestial Spirit and quell the rumors permanently. Finally, he wants to fulfill the dreams of the other members of the Divine Pirates.

Quirks - Mason has a serious, almost mean demeanor, and this scares people away. Or at least, Mason thinks it scares people away, and as such, he has developed a coping method that is almost compulsory. Should someone be scared by them, he will takes his hands, hide his face, and then reveal his face again to show him making silly expressions and zany sounds. This can often be scarier than his normal appearance.

Mason, like August and her mother before her, often uses quotes, anecdotes, and metaphors. The only problem is, Mason is very likely to to mess them up, especially ones that rhyme. How likely? "The early worm catches the bird" is one of his favorite quotes.
