Competitive Pokémon Section - What's New?

Hey everybody, I'm here to bring an important announcement to you all concerning some changes to the Competitive Pokémon section and the Battle Server. Through internal discussion within staff, we decided that it was best if we moved forward hosting events around a monthly schedule instead of irregularly. This is beneficial for everyone because humans generally function better around a regular schedule. We as staff can work hard and get everything ready for the coming month, and you guys can have something to do and something to look forward to every month. And feel free to leave feedback - we definitely want to know what we can do better and what kind of events you guys are interested in. Anyway, let's jump into some of the things that are new!

CP Points

CP Points stand for Competitive Pokémon Points (CPP for short I guess). Participating in monthly events will give you some of these prized points. Of course, it goes without saying that you will get more points for succeeding in these events. We're still figuring out some of the specifics of these rewards, but you can be sure that they'll be worth something (once you accumulate enough).

"Oh but what about Battle Points?" Battle Points will still be accumulated on the Battle Server, but CPP will be kept track of here on the forums. In the future we're planning to have a system to convert BP into CPP, but it will have to wait until we flesh out the exact functions of CPP.

Monthly Tournament Series

The Monthly Tournament Series (MTS) is exactly what it sounds like. We will be hosting traditional tournaments of different formats each month for you to enjoy. These tournaments are traditional in the sense that entrants would be responsible for their own teams - no Random formats will ever be used for the MTS. Entrants would have the first week of the month to sign up, and then the battles commence in knockout/elimination style for the weeks after. Wins and losses in the MTS will be recorded and may be used for seeding in the future for MTS events. If you're an energetic battler, then be sure to participate in this event every month! Of course, CPP will be rewarded for this event.

Random Tour Monthly

Random Tour Monthly will also be a monthly event. Unlike the MTS, it will be completely full of Random formats! Everyone has the first week to sign up, and after that it's a round-robin for the rest of the month. We have decided on a round-robin format so that no one has to feel left out if they end up dropping a match - everybody still gets to participate. CPP will be awarded based on number of wins and losses.

Ladder Challenge

A ladder challenge will also be present every month. Tiers will be chosen each month, and all you have to do is win some games on the ladder - you don't even need to use a new account. This is how it works: wins (up to a cap) on Pokémon Showdown Main Server will get you CPP based on the ranking of your opponent. If you're on the lower ladder, then use this opportunity to improve and gain some CPP while you're at it. If you're high on the ladder, then you'll be rewarded for all of the time and effort that you have put into battling.

Informal Events

Informal events will be run, well, informally! When lots of people are on, we'll end up hosting a bunch of room tournaments and some rounds of Pokémon Trivia. If you're a fan of this kind of relaxed and laid back atmosphere, then be sure to hop on often (even if it is just to chat)! Unfortunately CPP won't be awarded for participation, but the experience and bonding with others is what really counts.

Ladder of the Fortnight

There's not really anything too new with this. A trophy is still awarded to the highest rank player at the end of the period, etc. The one new thing is that LotF will be updated regularly now. Maybe we'll end up changing the period/frequency, but don't expect anything major. There are no planned CPP gains for this.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below or VM/PM any of the Battle Server Staff!
