Like Ichigo's attacks are;

Getsuga Tensho - Kiroi Getsuga (black GT) - Mugetsu

So really, Mugetsu could be seen as the ultimate version of Ichigo's Bankai. Remember Tensa Zangetsu, Ichigo's Bankai, alters his physical appearance, just as Mugetsu does, just not as Extreme. So Mugetsu is a combo of all Ichigo's powers- It's a combination of his Hollow form and His Bankai/Zanpakuto.
