"When you play a game of thrones you win or you die."

― George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones

This challenge is inspired by the HBO television series, Game of Thrones, and the book series on which that show is based, A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R.R. Martin. Thrust into a world of despair and peril, you either fight or die. Pledge allegiance to one of the Great Houses of Westeros, brave untold dangers and see if you have what it takes to claim the coveted Iron Throne and rule the Pokémon World.

Rules:
1. Firstly, you must align yourself with one of the major families of Westeros and adhere to the special rules of that family.

2. You are only allowed to use the Pokémon types required by the House you pledge allegiance to along with one of the compulsory Pokémon stipulated under each house (dual types are allowed and, if necessary, you are allowed to generate at most two (2) Pokemon of the required Types).

3. Since the Great Lords of Westeros use Knights, Sellswords and Common Folk alike in their armies, You have the option to use one (1) FIGHTING type and/or one (1) NORMAL type to complete your team.

4. You are required to have at least four (4) Pokémon to make up your party; inclusive of the compulsory Pokémon.

5. When you play the Game of Thrones, there is no middle ground; you either win or die. Akin to a particular rule in Nuzlocke challenges, if one of your Pokémon faints, it dies and is to be either released or placed in a "Death Box" in the PC.

6. If you are familiar with the TV show or books, you are to name at least one of your Pokémon after a member of the House you choose (nickname all if you can). This rule, however, is optional as is requires some knowledge of the books and show.

7. The inhabitants of the land of Westeros use Ravens to send messages and communicate with each other. If you wish, you can catch a Bird Pokémon, name it Raven, and use it as a Fly Slave.

8. Apart from the "Raven", you may use one (1) more HM Slave but no more than that.

9. You are allowed to generate any Item or Pokemon as may be required by the specific rules of your House.

10. Your Challenge ends when you either die (when your entire party faints in one battle) or you beat the "King" of what game you're playing. This includes:
(a) King of Kanto- Blue/ Rival
(b) King of Johto- Red
(c) King of Hoenn- Steven
(d) King of Sinnoh- Cynthia
(e) King of Unova- Alder
(f) King of Kalos- AZ
(g) King of Alola- Professor Kukui

House TARGARYEN is a noble family of Valyrian descent that escaped the Doom. They lived for centuries on the island of Dragonstone until Aegon Targaryen and his sisters rode their dragons to the conquest of the Seven Kingdoms. House Targaryen ruled as the Kings of Westeros for nearly 300 years, until their ouster in the War of the Usurper. Their seats were the capital city of King's Landing, the island castle of Dragonstone, and the summer residence of Summerhall. House Targaryen's sigil is a three-headed dragon breathing flames, red on black. The three-headed dragon represents Aegon the Conqueror and his two sisters, Rhaenys and Visenya. Their house words are "Fire and Blood." Members of the family tend to have stereotypical features of those of Valyrian descent; silver hair and violet eyes.

House LANNISTER of Casterly Rock is one of the Great Houses of Seven Kingdoms, and the principal house of the Westerlands. Their seat is Casterly Rock, though another branch exists that is based in nearby Lannisport. Their sigil is a golden lion on a field of crimson. Their official motto is "Hear me Roar!" However their unofficial motto, equally well known, is "A Lannister always pays his debts." The Lannisters reigned as Kings of the Rock until they fell to the Targaryen conquest, but were allowed to remain the liege lords of the Westerlands. The House had fallen on hard times during the rule of Tytos, but was restored to its former glory by Tywin. The Lannisters are the richest family in the Seven Kingdoms, due in large part to the many gold mines under their control, despite by no means being the largest kingdom and being rather mountainous. Members of the family tend to have golden hair and emerald green eyes.

Members of the family tend to be tall and powerfully built, with black hair and blue eyes, as well as strong, square jawlines. They are known for their mercurial tempers, and their words are Ours is the Fury. House Baratheon is the youngest of the original great houses, tracing its descent from Orys Baratheon, one of Aegon I Targaryen's fiercest generals, and rumored to be his bastard brother. Through the female line, the Baratheons are descended from the Storm Kings, as Orys slew Argilac the Arrogant, last of the Storm Kings, and married his daughter Argella Durrendon. Orys adopted the sigil and words of his wife's ancestral line.

House MARTELL of Sunspear is one of the Great Houses of Westeros and the ruling house of Dorne. Their words are, "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken." In appearance they are classic salty Dornishmen, with dark eyes, dark hair in ringlets, and olive skin. As Aegon the Conqueror waged his Wars of Conquest, he eventually came to Dorne. Here his army was bled dry by guerrilla warfare in the desert, a situation in which his dragons were of little use. Deciding that conquering Dorne would be too costly, the Conqueror opted to leave the Martells as sovereign princes. House Martell kept Dorne independent from the Targaryens for two centuries, the only one of the Seven Kingdoms to manage such a feat. After repeated failed attempts at conquest, Dorne eventually joined the fold through marriage between the two houses.

Compulsory Pokemon

This alliance was strengthened further when the Mad King, Aerys Targaryen II married his eldest son and heir, Prince Rhaegar, to Elia Martell, sister of Doran Martell, the Prince of Dorne. Once you have obtained all eight (8) badges, you can add one (1) DRAGON type Pokemon of your choice to your final team.

House TYRELL of Highgarden is one of the Great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms, overlords over the Reach. A large, wealthy house, its wealth is only surpassed among the Great Houses by House Lannister, and the Tyrells can field the greatest armies. House Tyrell rose to power during the Targaryen Conquest when Lord Harlen Tyrell, steward to Mern Gardner IX (former King of the Reach), bent the knee and surrendered the Reach to Targaryen rule after the ruling House Gardner and their banners were exterminated by Aegon the Conqueror's three dragons at the infamous Field of Fire incident. Highgarden is an ancient seat of rule and the heart of chivalry in the Seven Kingdoms; the Tyrells style themselves 'Defenders of the Marches' and 'High Marshals of the Reach', and traditionally, they have been Wardens of the South. The Arryn and Targaryen fleets fought to a draw in the Battle of Gulltown, but the Arryns submitted when Aegon the Conqueror's sister Visenya arrived at the Eyrie and found that the young king Ronnel wanted to ride a dragon. I have one question before I start the challenge. The required types for the lannisters are Ground/Psychic/Dark, does this means my party can only have this types or I need atleast one of each in my party? Very cool challenge, I love GoT and ASoIaF.

I just merged two cases of double posts and one triple post. You guys, PLEASE edit your posts when you need to add more. The rules about double posting are in the rules thread and you're free to message me to clarify if you don't understand them. If this continues to happen, I'll have to infract, and I'd hate to do that for such a minor rule. :/

Sorry about that, anyway, I have started and chose mudkip, I named him Mountain.

The required types for House Lannister are Ground/Psychic/Poison.

If you choose House Lannister, your party can only consist of these types and one of the stipulated compulsory Pokemon. You are allowed to use dual types (once the Pokemon you choose for your team has one of these typings, it's other typing can be anything really) so it's not completely restrictive.

Hope my response was helpful. :)

Update #1

I chose Charmander as my starter (named it after Rhaegar Targaryen). I beat my Rival at Oak's Lab (named him Gary). I then went up to Viridian City, collected Oak's Parcel at the Mart, made my way back down to Pallet Town, gave Oak the parcel and collected my PokeDex and PokeBalls. Right now I'm Level Grinding in the Route just left of Viridian.

My Current Team:

004.gif

Rhaegar (m)
Level: 13
Nature: Rash
Ability: Blaze
Moves:
Scratch

Metal Claw

Update #2

I trained up my Charmander until it evolved into Charmeleon and then I beat my Rival for the second time. I then made my way through the Viridian Forest into Pewter City where I challenged and beat Brock for my first Gym Badge. I then made my way to the Pokemon Center right in front of Mount Moon where I got my second team member; (the Magikarp from the Magikarp Salesman). I named her after Daenerys Targaryen. I'm planning to train Magikarp up through the switch out method until I get a Gyarados.

My Current Team:

I made my way through Mount Moon, into Cerulean City. Before facing the Gym, fought and beat Gary, did some training on Nugget Bridge and the Route leading up to Bill's House, and did the Bill Event to get the ticket to the SS Anne. My Magikarp evolved into Gyarados whilst in the Gym and I took on and beat Misty. I'm now in Vermillion City where I intend to do the SS Anne Event and take on Lt. Surge.

My Current Team:

Update #4

I did the SS Anne event, beat Gary again and collected the HM Cut. I beat Lt. Surge with my Charmeleon and made my way to the Rock Tunnel. I went through the Rock Tunnel and got to Lavender Town before I made my way to Celedon City. When I arrived at Celedon, I took on Giovanni and Team Rocket at the Game Corner and retrieved the Silph Scope. I then made my way back to Lavender Town, took on Gary once more, and recued Mr. Fuji from Team Rocket at the Pokemon Tower. I went back to Celedon, picked up the HM for Fly, caught and trained a Vulpix into a Ninetales, and beat Erica's Gym. I'm currently taking on the Bikers on the Cycling Road.

Update #6

I filled the Dex up to the point where I could get the Exp. Share and trained Dratini up. I took on the Rockets at Silph Co., beat Giovanni, and got the Masterball. After that, I beat Sabrina's Gym. Unfortunately, I lost my Ninetales in the mix. I then made my way to Cinnabar Island, revived Aerodactyl from the Old Amber that I got from the Scientist at Pewter Museum, and trained him up. I named him Viserys after Viserys Targaryen.

I did the Pokemon Mansion, got the Secret Key and defeated Blaine's Gym. I then surfed over to the Seafoam Islands to catch Articuno, the Legendary member of my Team. I used the Masterball on it so it wasn't any trouble. I maned it Lyanna after Lyanna Stark, Rhaegar Targaryen's Mistress from the North. After that, I made my way back to Cinnabar to take Bill up on his offer to go to the 1,2,3 Islands. On One Island, I caught a Ponyta that I evolved into a Rapidash to replace Ninetales. I called her Elia after Rhaegar Targaryen's wife, Elia Martell. Once I finished the Lostelle Sidequest, I made my way back to Kanto and beat Giovanni's Gym. After that, I beat Gary once more on the Route left of Viridian City and made my way through Victory Road.

I'm doing some training before I take on the League near the Spa on One Island.

Update #7

I've finished training and I fought the Pokemon League.

Lorelei
My Rapidash annihilated Lorelei. I sent Elia out first, set up Sunny Day and Solarbeamed the lot of her Pokemon, except for Jynx, but Fire Blast took care of her. I had a close call when the sun faded against Lapras, but Elia tanked it and I pulled through.

Bruno
Easy. Gyarados/ Daenerys smashed his 2 Onix with Surf and Aerodactyl/Viserys and Dragonite/ Aegon (Fly) took care of his fighting types with relative ease.

Agatha
The only thing that I could think of was to overpower her with my Dragonite, Aegon. Outrage served to take out her Ghosts, Thunder hit her Golbat, and I brought out Daenerys to Earthquake her Arbok to a OHKO.

Lance.
I took lance out with relative ease as well. Aegon Thundered his Gyarados and Aerodactyl and Articuno/ Lyanna took out his Dragons with a Hail/ Blizzard Combo.

Gary
Gary wasn't too much trouble.
Pidgeot- Aegon's Thunder OHKOed Pidgeot.
Blastoise- Pretty much the same thing. Aegon's Thunder OHKOed Blastoise.
Alakazam- Viserys Double-Edge OHKOed Alakazam.
Rhydon- Daenerys Dragon Danced twice and an Earthquake was enough to finish it off.
Arcanine- Daenerys OHKOed Arcanine with another Dragon Dance Earthquake.
Exeggutor- Rhaegar's Flamethrower was all it took to OHKO.

Challenge noted. Good Luck!! :)

Sorry about that. Will try to be more careful. It would be a bit embarrassing to get an infraction for a minor rule.

Name: CasTheBritt
House: House Stark
Game: Pokemon Y

Can I trade in poochyena to be my starter since none of the starters fit the types until the third evolution? (Also mightyena looks the most like a dire wolf of all the required pokemon)

Challenge confirmed. Good luck!!! :)

You can trade the Poochyena over if you want, no problem.

Also, You can use the Froakie if you want to. The required type rule applies to the evolution chain, not the individual Pokemon. As long as the final evolution (or evolved stage which you intend to use) has that required typing, it's cool.

I have a question, as a Lannister can I cure poison with berries?

Nope. You can only either let it wear off by itself (in later generations) or get to a Pokemon Center or Healing spot asap if you want to get rid of it.

If you have HP healing items, you can use them until you get to a healing spot.

Are hacks allowed, as long as they are in a canon region?

Also, if a pokemon dies, can it be replaced with a pokemon of the same species, or is it only replaceable with a different kind of pokemon?

Yes, hacks are allowed so long as the game is based in a canon region.

I've got no rule against replacing a dead Pokemon with the same species; you can do that if you wish. However, I would advise against it. I think that the experience would be more enriching if you try to use as much different Pokemon as allowed (especially if its a species that you've never gotten a chance to train before). In the end though, its really up to you and what you want to do.

Okay then.

Registered. Good Luck!!! :)

Would it be wrong of me to use my two HM slaves (Zigzagoon & Meowth) who both have the pick-up ability to acquire items, since I cannot buy any? I've been doing this, but I have Meowth for Flash, and I won't be using that again until Victory Road. So I'd just be keeping him in my party for pick-up. That's why I ask now.

Nope, that's perfectly fine.
