Similar to ZeoStar's gen II thread but for any gen this time.

There's always a section that bores the crap out of me and I lose any interest to play for an indefinite hiatus whenever I decide to replay a game. For all games, it's the beginning but when I manage to drag my lazy behind through that I can enjoy the game. But aside from the tutorial intro there's:

In Kanto games, it's the rocket hideout

Johto, rocket hideouts again

Hoenn, it's clearing the Magma/Aqua bases and the water routes

Sinnoh, again clearing the Galactic HQ

Unova, not that bad iirc.

Kalos: Clearing Flare HQ and some of the early-mid game routes.

Alola: everywhere with some boring cutscene, aka most of the game

I notice majority of the time, the evil team hq part bores me, probably because most of the gameplay is unchallenging, grindfest of clearing out endless waves of fodder grunts with weak copy and pasted pokemon like Zubat or Rattata.

The extreme legendary obsession in every game.

Literally the least interesting Pokemon and the ones I avoid, yet to progress through any and every story, the game has to halt everything to give us fanservice of these boring creatures and most times even have the plots revolve around them entirely.

In Y, I was desperately tapping every button in vain to skip with the whole part of the version legendary being in the headquarters and I had to battle it. I even tried to just leave, which the game wouldn't allow.
Nope, I had to sit through a 5 minute cutscene of essentially Pokemon porn, because GF thinks these things are just so cool.

I. Don't. Care.

Gen 1 was the only one where the legendaries had almost no role in the story, which was best.

Grinding a new team member.
Whenever I get a new team member, I stop everything and grind it up to match the levels of the rest of the team. Depending on the game, this can sometimes take up to an hour. I know I could just have it tag along and use the exp.share, but I prefer this method as it allows me to use the new team member somewhat. But, it's still a massive pain in the ass and the only reason I still do it is because it's what I've always done.

Gen 1: The overall gameplay and how terribly overrated it is.
Gen 2: The new Pokémon's overall usefulness.
Gen 3: 7.8 too much water
Gen 4: 7.8 not enough Fire-types
Gen 5: The region, if anything.
Gen 6: Laughably negligible difficulty.
Gen 7: How to describe this generation: Slow. Slow Pokémon, slow cutscenes, slow tutorials, and terribly inconsistent frame rates.
