Leon Labs Presents: The Ultimate Fire Red Base

IMPORTANT UPDATE

Here is an even newer release of the rom base! This time, broken promises were fulfilled!
Check out the details here:

Important: A-Map 1.92 won't read Pokemon names in the 809+ patch version, use 1.95 for adding Wild Pokemon. Use 1.92 for everything else though!

Spoiler:

The BW/HGSS music patches have been removed due to compatibility issues

There is a working 807+ version I am working on, complete with new evolution methods, sprites and cries. It will have 960 dex entries to accommodate the next Generation.

Both versions will have a tool pack released, following proper credit and documentation. I do not own any of the tools.

Information has been amended to fit the changes.

Sagiri's Hall of Fame Fix has been added to accommodate expanded Pokemon

There is now a patch that automatically makes your rom 1636-Squirrels, so compatibility issues will no longer exist

Fixed many, many PGE files

Removed a few icons that conflicted with PGE and the Advance Series, with notes included

A planned user guide is in the works as well.

I believe FBI's Dexnav and expanded Save Block Hack are compatible with this, but it is not included in the download.

Unless major bugs are found, this will be the Final Version of the Rom Base!
Upon the release of Generation 8, supplementary materials will eventually be provided!

PLEASE NOTE:
Space used is 0x720000-0x9FFFFF as well. ITS FOR THE BEST THAT YOU SIMPLY AVOID THIS SPACE.
For best results, start your free space searches at 0xA00000!

Additionally, if you wish to use the Pokemon expansion files, ensure that you edit the Dex numbers in the .ini PGE files to customize your Pokedex and avoid bugs!

Intoduction

Brought to you by Prof. Leon Dias and UltimaSoul,
With the arrival of decomps, as well as Egg's Emerald Engine Upgrade, it occurred to us that there really isn't much out there in regards to Fire Red other than MrDollSteak's base, which MrDS himself said is outdated. The consensus among many hackers is just use Emerald.

Fire Red hackers deserve love too, especially since it is arguably more accessible to beginners and experts alike, so we created a little something to even the playing field to make BOTH roms an equally viable choice.

Download Includes:
  • Day and Night add-on patches with details and instructions
  • B2W2 and HGSS music add-on patches with notes on how to implement them
  • A more detailed list of known bugs that still exist (mostly small scale and situational)
  • Various notes on EVERY FEATURE of the base
  • Removal patches for SOME ASM and C work
  • Instructions on how to further remove features you don't want
  • Gen 4-7+ Alternate Forms expansion packs including sprites, cries, and PGE files
  • Lists of offset changes
  • Ini files and some specific tools we used (We take no credit for them)
  • The actual patch for the base

What was removed since previous versions:
Spoiler:
  • Warnscreen
  • BW Summary and Party Screens
  • HGSS HP Bars
  • Pre-made expansions
  • Focus Sash
  • New Evolution Methods (you need to expand the Pokemon first)

What was added since previous versions:
Spoiler:
  • The first youngster in Viridian Forest will give you one of every single item to test
  • Replaced Focus Sash with Weakness Policy
  • Added routines for damage reduction berries
  • New Abilities: Parental Bond, Fluffy, Fur Coat, Shadow Shield, Defiant, Competitive, Unburden, Protean, Wonder Skin, Steadfast, Tangling Hair, and Unaware
  • New Moves: Sacred Sword
  • Ghost types are immune to trapping moves
  • Electric types can't be paralyzed
  • Grass types are immune to Powder and Spore moves
  • Fixed Roost, Volt Switch/U-Turn, Clear Smog, Circle Throw/Dragon Tail, Pluck/Bug Bite, and Volt Tackle
  • Fixed Abilitites: Infiltrator, Magic Guard, Magic Bounce, Gooey, Mummy
  • Fixed Items: Assault Vest, Rocky Helmet, Life Orb, Black Sludge
  • JPAN Save Data Fix
  • Fixed Day and Night compatibility with more accurate emulators

Optionally, you can just apply it to Fire Red and play it as it is for basically a FR2.0 experience. Offsets, tools, .ini files, and removal patches are provided so you can customize it however you'd like. So what makes this so special? Well, here's a list of its features, but first, PICTURES:

2.png 3.png
1.png 4.png

Main Features
  • MrDollSteak's Base 1.5a, with 95% of bug fixes
  • Your choice of Prime Dialga's or Shiny Quagsire's Day and Night Systems
  • Mega Evolution with custom particles!
  • Dynamic Overworld Palletes with new Overworld Sprites
  • Squeetz's music base built in- RSE, Summon Night and Drill Dozer music!
  • Option to use HGSS and B2W2 music instead
  • Expanded bag capable of holding every item
  • Modularity. Customize your own Pokedex, and what features you want!

Don't know which day and night system to choose? Here's an example.

Prime-Dialga's DNS:

5.png 6.png
7.png 8.png

Pros: More stable palettes, shading is removable and can be edited, compatibility with seasons system
Cons: Shades over mugshots you may implement, palettes aren't great, breaks trading and multiplayer
- Fixed compatibility with more accurate emulators

Shiny Quagsire's DNS:

9.png 10.png
11.png 12.png

Pros: Better real time shading, better palette shading, doesn't shade over mugshots
Cons: Conflicts with some weather types, occasional visual glitches, may conflict with a changed tileset

More details on both versions (and how to apply the RTC without shading) are included within a Readme.

KNOWN BUGS
DISCLAIMER: Report any bugs you find to me and I'll list them here and try to fix them
  • Not updated AI
  • Everything about the DNS posted by MrDollSteak
  • Healer will cure status, but the status icon (BRN,PSN, etc.) will still be on the healed Pkmn's HP bar
  • Eviolite affects Pokemon that can mega evolve
  • Some moves have bugged animations in Doubles

Notes
In depth notes for EVERY. CHANGE. are provided in the Notes folder from the download.
For quick reference, I'll post how to activate Mega Evolution.

HOW TO USE MEGA EVOLUTION
Spoiler:

1. Expand pokemon in PGE or figure out what you want to replace/get rid of
2. Use G3T, G3HS or PGE to edit your mega's stats
3. Go to the pokemon you want to mega evolve, select mega evo in their evolution. Link it to the actual mega and choose the item that is the mega stone (which are already there)
4. Go to the mega, select mega evolution again but with no item, back to the original pokemon. Make sure that the base HP and EXP growth are the same or you get bugs
5. Set an event or go to Dr Fuji, to get the Mega Bracelet and set the vars 0x40EFF 0x161 and 0x40FF 0x161.

0x40EF and 40FF allow you and opposing trainers to actually use them in battle
0x161 is the item index that triggers mega evolution. You cannot change this and you have no reason to.

6. Give the stone to your pokemon. Go into battle. Press start. You will hear a beep like you used a TM. Watch the fireworks.

I will not answer further questions for anyone regarding mega evolutions unless a glitch is found. If theres additional questions, look at Touched's post.

To Do List
Nothing.
An updated AI is too far from our grasp at the moment and isn't worth working on.
Every feature we officially want on this base is accounted for.
All game breaking bugs we know of are taken care of or at least circumvented.
Future bug fixes will have an explanation released at the bottom of the post

Wow. This is amazing! It sucks that I've already started on my hack with another ROM Base, but this is just awesome! The ultimate ROM Base -- from what it seems. Great job.

Why did you remove all new items? Did mrds use the exact routines posted in the asm resource thread? Because they don't seem bugged when I tried them?

Why did you remove those moves? I have some and they don't seem bugged?

Why rse/em music over hgss music? I have a fix (credits skeli) for the music bug if that's the reason.

Your notes never mention why you rearranged abilites. When you rearranged, did you change their index number in their specific routines? Aka you have made sure any reorangized abilites work properly?

What bugs are you aware of whether your bugs or mrds.

From OP, messaged me in discord:

The mega particles are just 3 images inserted to free space with the very end of a table that MrDS left open ended with their pointers

Growth was bugged to always boost Atk and SPA by 2 stages regardless of sunlight, some moves like Tailwind had bugged text in doubles especially or just didnt work, same with abilities

Rearranged abilities are just from 2 slots, I swapped them in a pokemon editor. For example Geodude would have Rock Head/Sturdy. I made it Sturdy/Rock Head, as opposing trainers use the first of the two in battle.

I used RSE music because I figured that 2 regions worth of music was nice and it fit a Gen 3 theme

I removed the items because it seems no matter what I did, Black Sludge, Eviolite, etc. just would not work at all for me

The save block hack is included within MrDS base

Can confirm, I did just type that in discord.

I can confirm that all the Pokemon from my 807 + Alolans + Megas ROMbase will work with this base when imported using PGE. Leon, can you provide a PGE .ini with this so that others can use PGE with this base?

All in all, one great base! I like it.
The PGE ini is included in the ini folder, titled "roms.ini"

Ohhhh sorry, I just glanced at it! My bad. I was just assuming since I rarely see creators post PGE .inis. I deleted the post as not to confuse others.

I'm testing Leon's Ultimate Fire Red Base.ips with the removal patches individually and while Remove BW Selection Screen.ips and Remove DPPt Text.ips seem to be working, "Remove BW Summary Screen.ips" is not.
The game freezes when moving onto the 2nd screen inside a pokémon's summary.

It'd be cool if you could add a patch to remove the HP Boxes at some point.
Overall, the base sounds pretty fine in terms of features. Nice work :)

I believe the issue stems from the nature colored stats routines located at 0xF30000. Removing this as well as reverting the pointers at x137134, 137158, 13717C, 1371A4, 1371C8, and 1371F0, (or changing it to how the asm was originally written here: https://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=9043890&postcount=816) should fix this.

In hindsight, I probably should have included that in the removal patch, I was in a rush when I created it. Ill update it by tomorrow probably.

In case someone didn't understand:
Spoiler:
1) Open your Patched ROM with HxD, Right Click > Select Block. Set the Start-offset to F30000 and the End-offset to F302A0.
2) Right Click > Fill Selection > Hex-values: FF > Click "OK".
3) Open a clean Pokémon Fire Red ROM, go to 137134 and select the first 8 bytes (0A 79 32 32 12 06 12 0E).
4) Put them in the Patched ROM at 137134 using Ctrl+B, and then repeat the process with the other 5 offsets.
5) Apply Remove BW Summary Screen.ips over your patched ROM.
6) Done.

Thanks to the help of Lunos and Xizqu, I have found a number of bugs that will be fixed within the week. They are:

Forgot to remove the guy in the bedroom that gives you the mega ring (testing phase)
Hitmonchan is Grass/Poison for some reason
Link Cable doesnt work and sends you back to the menu
Need to decap Itemfinder and in game trades
Tall grass fix made the grass on route 17 weird
Golden pokeballs glitch sometimes due to movement permissions

The OP will be updated accordingly

My friend, I really have no idea how I can repay you for this. It's really to the point that I'm going to restart my own hack to bring it onto this updated engine -- even including the ~week I'l need to spend migrating my previous work onto the new ROM (not too long as I have all my sprites and scripts/tilesets/etc. saved externally), you may have shaved a solid few months or more off of my development, and considering that I'm the only person on my entire team, I really can't thank you enough. I'll be patching a clean ROM with this as soon as you update the OP with the bug fixes you mentioned in your last post. You've done FireRed hackers everywhere an enormous service!

This is a really phenomenal ROM Base, so thank you for putting all of this together! I remember having to manually input a lot of these features myself for an old hack and it was a nightmare trying to get it all coordinated lol.

If I could make a suggestion, I highly recommend adding this turbo boost code. It makes grinding so much easier and more enjoyable. I never play FireRed unless I have this hack on it.

Thanks again!

EDIT: Is it possible to make a removal patch for the DNS, or at the very least a version of the base that doesn't include it? I am not a fan of the horrible screen tints lol.

What method do I use to make Mega Evolution?

It's touched's mega evolution. IDK if psimaster used the patch or compiled it from source. Regardless, it's the same one used in Gaia and other popular hacks

So does that mean I have to edit the .ini to make the Pokemon mega evolve, like the one in Touched's Thread? I saw the .ini and it wasn't edited to make the Pokemon mega evolve...

Sorry about that. I'm actually remaking the patch to allow for MUCH more free space. If you could give me a few days to update the whole thing, the updated ini will be provided as well.

You said you compiled the mega evolution? I've edited the .ini to see if it would work, but it didn't when I tried to activate the mega evolution. Do you need to activate it with a script, for example, like in MBCN's patch? Sorry for bothering...

Announcement:

The updated rom base will be ready in just a few short days, if you all could bear with me.
I have teamed up with Xizqu to update the AI and fix many of the bugs present within MrDS's base.

The new base will also have:

Much more free space
Expanded OWs dont glitch with the VS Seeker
TM placements fixed more
Decapitalization of berry powder stuff and Fame Checker
New items: Flame Orb and Toxic Orb, various items fixed such as Black Sludge
Move fixes: Trick, Switcheroo, Brick Break, Growth, Incinerate, etc.
Updated battle AI to account for new moves and abilities
New routines for field affecting moves like Stealth Rock
Grass types immune to powder moves, ghosts immune to trapping moves (possibly)
Possible port of RSE berry system (maybe, it is still in the works)

I will not be able to pinpoint the exact date it is released, but it will be VERY soon.
Me, Xizqu, Akamethebulbasaur and a few others are working dilligently every day.
