    Spoiler:

    ⌠ Age and Experience. ⌡

Her eyes and feathers show evidence of old age. She is in fact over 60 years old.

Most of her life has been spent using her powers to protect others - foreseeing dangerous events in time to make preparations, or using psychic abilities to lend protection.

    ⌠ Personality. ⌡

When she opts to remain quiet, the Xatu can give off a mysterious air. A gaze from those almond-shaped eyes can be enigmatic, unnerving, or caring, depending on the situation.

When she does speak, it's clear that years of experience and visions have blessed her with wisdom and ethics. She speaks evenly, with forethought, rarely raising her voice. She can even come across as a caring old lady, concerning herself with everyone's well-being.

Occasionally, a smile will play across her oft-pensive face. In fact, it's not unheard of for the old bird to prod others with teasing that only an old lady can get away with.

    ⌠ Psychic Abilities. ⌡

Augury - Quetzalli has a vision that may depict past or future events.

Scrying - Quetzalli sees visions of what has happened to the target object/Pokémon in the past, or what may happen in the future.

Mark of Vision - Quetzalli connects to another Pokémon's mind to perceive the world with their senses from their perspective.

Miracle Eye - Quetzalli is able to look very far away, or beyond her confined space.

Telekinesis - Quetzalli moves an object or Pokémon with her mind, causing them to "float."

Telepathy - Quetzalli projects her voice (or mental images) into other's minds. She can sometimes read thoughts as well (depending on a variety of factors, mainly plot). This can be easier with allies, and more limited with unfamiliars. These thoughts can take the form of packets of info, mental images, or actual sentences, depending on the situation.

The GM tells me Quetzalli can also perform airship-specific tasks, such as drawing energy from the Ethereal Spirit Core to raise the ship's Barrier shields and to fire at the Barriers of enemy ships, such as using astromancy to navigate at sea, and such as bonding crew members to each other in a telepathic link that allows them to send messages to each other as if they were one-way telepaths themselves.

    ⌠ Combat Ability. ⌡

Confuse Ray - Quetzalli stimulates another Pokémon's brain, scrambling their thoughts, or forcing them to see strange mental images, or disorienting flashes of light. This inflicts the Confused status condition.

Air Slash - Fluffed in one of two ways:
Quetzalli does a fly-by, zipping right by her opponent's side. As she passes, the edge of her wing inflicts a cut.
Or, with each flap of Quetzalli's wings, a saw-like wave of energy shoots forth.

Roost - Quetzalli finds a perch, closes her eyes and rests there. An faint halo of energy surrounds her, restoring half of her vitality.

Lucky Chant - Quetzalli chants an incantation toward the sky, protecting her and her allies from critical hits for five rounds. This places an invisible shield around allies that would make blows slide slightly out of balance, causing them to strike less vital parts of the body, thus avoiding "critical hits." Since it's throwing blows off balance, there's also a small chance that the blow will miss entirely.

Psychic Type Mastery - For example, moves such as:
    Spoiler:
Psyshock - Quetzalli takes telekinetic hold of her opponent, forcing them to float in the air, then directs them in any direction she wishes, often with great speed toward a hard object.

Psychic - Quetzalli gains psychic access to her opponent's mind, and tricks their brain into experiencing debilitating pain even though they are under no bodily harm.

Future Sight - Quetzalli glimpses a moment of the near future, of her opponent's movements. She aims not where her opponent is now, but where her opponent will be in the near future, aims precisely for that spot, and waits a moment for said future to arrive.
On their post turn, when the opponent steps in this "trap," they are struck with a pinpointed high-power psychic attack, one that would be too difficult to accurately strike with without knowing exactly where to aim.
Since it is in their post, the opponent may fluff this attack as they like, so long as it is psychic and high-power (base power of 120). Some examples: A sharp pain in their head with a ringing of the ears. A diagonal slash through the air that appears from nowhere. A coloured blast of energy shooting up from the ground like so.

Light Screen and Reflect - Quetzalli forms a translucent wall or barrier of light in front of her or an ally, shielding them from attacks.

Teleport - Quetzalli disappears from one location and reappears in another, so long as she can accurately envision her destination, e.g. through previous memorization or line-of-sight. (It is also possible to teleport to a random unknown location, but this is a serious risk.)

Magic Bounce - Quetzalli's ability allows her to psychically repel and reflect status moves. e.g. a move that would lower her defence, or put her to sleep.

    ⌠ Rumours and Background. ⌡

Whether in a tribe in the wilderness, or within the City of Bones itself, it's likely you've heard this rumour, murmured between Pokémon.
Whenever the topic of the uncertain future comes up, someone will inevitably bring it up...

Rumours of an old bird who lives by herself on Antara's rocky cliffs.

Rumours that she could see into the future with her right eye,
and into the past with her left.

Rumours that remain alive to this day.

These rumours were not unfounded. It seemed this old Xatu was gifted with abilities not only psychic, but precognitive. And she refuses to misuse such a gift - believing it is her duty to use the gift Mother Mew has given her to protect others.

Truthfully though, she was happy about the rumours. Most of them depicted her as a mysterious elderly bird with astounding precognitive abilities. Few knew her by name, but instead by the rumour.

And without those rumours, no one would know of her, would they? She would just be a lonely old lady letting her ability go to waste.

Members of tribes, pirates, or even brave or desperate urban Pokémon would seek her out now and again, for her wisdom or for her talent of seeing events both past and future.

She is usually addressed as The Oracle or Seer.
Those who know her well, use her real name.

⌠ Childhood and Middle Age. ⌡

Quetzalli is part of the isolated, pacifistic Inathi people, known for ruling over the Guntama Jungle in northeast Antara, and the tallest mountain in the Known World, which they've named the Nose of the World. The Inathi people have built several temples and monasteries on the mountain ranges around the Guntama Jungle, including the better-known Temple of Air. These mountains, cliffs, and temples are where Quetzalli called home.

As a child, Quetzalli often used her precognition to cheat. Schoolwork, games, what have you. Sneaking peeks into the future even as a young chick proved to be an advantage she would often use unfairly, during the folly of youth.

Only as an adult did her ability to look into the past materialize, and at this point she worked as a historian for a university-like guild of Pokémon called the Archivists. Quetzalli loved this job, it suited her so well and she found it very fulfilling. She worked together with a dear friend in the Artisans Guild, an artistic Dwebble who loved to carve. Quetzalli lived in a dome-shaped clay house carved by that Dwebble, and kept many pots and sculptures made by her, to decorate said home.

But her temptation to cheat lingered, and she used it in the world of gambling. She was a clever bird, using her clairvoyance subtly to glimpse moments of the future of these gambling games, cheating the system in order to win. After being caught one too many times at each of the small gambling games around town, she was banned from each one. The Archivists Guild frowned upon this news, and asked her to resign. With her old way of life lost, Quetzalli chose to change her lifestyle, becoming a fortune teller and soothsayer for anyone who would visit.

She honed her craft during this time, and eventually, she was asked to see the future for a member of nobility, Jun Unfezant.
Telling him of his future is her biggest regret to this day.
As soon as she foretold a vision that disagreed with him - a vision of his defeat by the hands of a boy - Jun Unfezant went into a flurry, sending his warriors to kill this threat before it killed him. The casualties were heavy, and so is this memory on Quetzalli's mind.

Though Jun is now out of the picture, she is still wary of how others may react to her foretellings. She reminds herself she must always consider how any Pokémon may react and change the future, if she tells them what she has envisioned. She must act not only as a clairvoyant, but as a wise moral figure as well.

⌠ Old Age and Piracy. ⌡

As Quetzalli got on in years, she continued to use her clairvoyant talents to help anyone who would come to her. Some were nobodies, some were more well known, leaders of their field. She in turn became more well known, rumours spreading all the way to Ephermus. She one day received word that a brilliant man from that very city was requesting her services. An archaeologist by the name of Mr. Alcock needed more insight into an ancient civilization, and wished to examine Quetzalli's visions for validity. He'd even sent an airship to escort her to Ephermus.

The Xatu was amiable to the arrangement. However, while on board, a member of the ship's crew overheard her talking to herself, and eavesdropped out of curiosity. They discovered she was actually attempting to speak with Lunala, as if in prayer. Quetzalli was charged with belonging to the Faith of the Four Divines, and therefore being an enemy of the government. Calmly, she said she did not deny these claims. She would not lie about what she believes in, even if it would condemn her.

When they landed in the Ephermus and Mr. Alcock heard this news, he suddenly had no interest in associating with this woman who he before had been so eager to work with. The man was so opposed to this faith, and commanded such influence, he had the Xatu arrested. Quetzalli was taken aboard a second airship, this one headed to a place where the Avian Naval Force deals with people like her. Quetzalli suspected she would face jail time, or worse, a place where the ANF would attempt to convert her to the One Faith through some means of re-institutionalization.

She got in further trouble while on board by placidly defying her captors, being stubborn and refusing to bend. She did not believe the One Faith was correct, nor was the government. After one too many talk-backs, Quetzalli's beak was tied as well as her wings. She continued to defy her captors through telepathy, and this agitated them to the brink. Finally, she attempted to escape. In her reasoning, she had done nothing wrong, and should be allowed to walk free. But her escape failed, and now she had an even more legitimate crime she was charged with. The soldiers, thoroughly fed up with this old bird by this point, told her that if she wanted off the ship so bad, she would get it. They forced her to walk the plank.

As she fell toward the desert far below, her wings and beak still bound, the Xatu calmed herself. She treated this not as a freefall, but as a dive, pointing her beak down as she had dove so many times before. She concentrated, envisioning her home, that rocky cliff, its humble little domed house, carved by her friend, its view of the sky and the mountains. And after she was out of sight of the airship above, she vanished.

She reappeared at the place she envisioned. Her captors, apparently, had forgotten that some Xatu can teleport. She had, in effect, faked her own death. While she rested at home, Quetzalli turned over the situation in her head. She was now an enemy of the government. She decided to stop going by her true name while in public, and instead be referred to only as her title, Oracle, or Seer. She would need to find a new place to spend her days – her home was too suspect. After a long prayer to Lunala and Solgaleo, to Groudon and Kyogre, wherein she asked them to guide her mind and body, Quetzalli took one more teleportation, with absolutely no destination in mind. A roll of the dice. For all she knew, it could take her to the bottom of the ocean, but she trusted Kyogre to keep her safe from his seas.

She reappeared on the island of Antigua, in the Carajol Sea. Small, pleasant, lots of sun, low population… it was ideal for a hideaway. She was apparently not the only person to think so, as Captain Jonathan made the same plans for his pirate hideout not too much later. And if she is now considered a rebel of the authorities, Quetzalli should find herself a gang of pirates to ally herself with, no?

    ⌠ Goals. ⌡

Naturally, Quetzalli's way of life comes with a good deal of challenges. Many urban Pokémon choose ignorance over education, leading to ugly misconceptions about the Xatu's precognitive abilities. Both the government and the citizens they've forced their own idea of faith upon see anyone who refuses Arceus to be an enemy. Quetzalli is coming into this experience fully expecting to be a victim of discrimination, exclusion, and persecution. And yes, she intends to fight it.

Even so. Quetzalli does not actively seek any Pokémon's defeat.
Ideally, she'd like to see peace between any two groups of conflict.

Protecting her "kin" (friends and others like her) is foremost on her mind, and if that means neutralizing a threat that looms in the near future, so be it.

She reminds herself she must always consider how any Pokémon may react and change the future, if she tells them what she has envisioned. She must act not only as a clairvoyant, but as a wise moral figure as well. Her decisions on how to react to the future that she's foreseen, may well end up changing the future.

    ⌠ Religion and Spirituality. ⌡

Quetzalli belongs to the faith of the Inathi. It is known by the name Alusha, or the Faith of the Four Divines. They don't believe in Arceus; they praise the Sun and Moon and Earth and Sea. Solgaleo, Lunala, Groudon, and Kyogre are the gods they speak to.

This faith emphasizes peace, serenity, harmony, mindfulness, and development of wisdom and understanding. Alushans believe in enlightenment, in reincarnation, and in a path to end the cause of suffering.

However, any faith that rejects Arceus in the way that the One Faith believes in him can lead to many forms of persecution for its believers.

Her religious demeanour: Intolerant, occasional expression of beliefs, rare conversion, humble attitude

    ⌠ Hobbies and Handicaps. ⌡

Hobbies: Fortune telling (obviously), philosophizing, reading, storytelling,
music and art appreciation, antiques, and oddly enough, gambling.

    Oddities: Superstition, exaggeration, and eavesdropping.

Handicaps: One of the most obvious handicaps Quetzalli has is her age. She's old. Old enough that her body can fail to keep up with young people. Her mind is exceptional, but time has taken its toll on her body.

She's also a bird, which means telekinesis is the only way she has to hold onto things, unless she uses her talons, which seems to be frowned upon by urban Pokémon.

Quetzalli is stubborn in her ways, in her logic and her tradition. She is intolerant of those who hold views, beliefs, or behaviour opposite of her own.

Finally... as wise as she is, she has not gotten over her temptation to use her visions to cheat.

    OOC:
    Spoiler:
I would love to take the Psychic role for either the first or the second crew, so here's my Xatu character.

Looking for feedback in areas such as how to best fit Quetzalli into the Known World. I'm also wondering how flexible the position of Psychic can be. Right now I'm not certain when or how Quetzalli would become familiar with an airship's power core, for example. And hoping that replacing astromancy with a Xatu's clairvoyant visions is acceptable.

Regarding the telepathy/mind reading she can "sometimes" do: I am aware this can be a sticking point so I'm happy to talk about the conditions under which she can and cannot read thoughts. For example, perhaps she can only read thoughts of her foes when the GM tells me she can, and she can freely read thoughts of allies. Or, perhaps those allies also need to give OOC permission and/or a "cue" in their narration.

As for clairvoyant abilities, information she sees inside visions would obviously be provided at the GM's discretion.

    RP sample:
    Spoiler:
    (From a previous RP)

[13:24] Quetzalli: Quite a while ago, while Espurr was still away, Quetzalli had been asked to use her talents at the "crime scene" of sorts. She had peered into the past, like a psychic security camera, and told Mawile what she saw: the person who stole Mawile's important book wrapped in chains. At the moment, that is the extent of the Xatu's knowledge. She had speculated that, though this activity was highly suspect, Espurr may have been doing it with good intentions in mind. Whether the intentions would lead to positive results are another story.

Standing near one of the walls of the lobby, the Oracle watches Espurr enter the room, her eyes narrowing slightly as she wonders about the feline. What did she do with that book and why? Has anyone confronted her about it yet, she wonders? Hm. This would be as good a time as any to try to discover these answers. With the Espurr still in her field of vision, the Xatu shuts her right eye, searching the visions that pass in front of her left eye, for any signs of Espurr's past, especially relating to the book or conversations she's had. It's sneaky to be doing this behind Espurr's back, but Quetzalli is too suspicious to let this lie.

[13:58] Schoolgirl Espurr was unaware of Quetzalli's presence as she was reading through the remainder of that last book at the time, and with it, came visions of her past. The visions showed the day she stole the ancient tome Mawile had kept hidden, the tome whose power the archaeologist was blissfully unaware of... Espurr gathering the specific items necessary from each of the Society members, save for one... Espurr standing in place on her own, staring aimlessly off into the distance, most likely in a telepathic conversation with another... Then, cutting to her watching from afar, hidden from everyone's view, unaware that she was actually there, as every major recent event that had occurred in Lively Town flashed before the Xatu's eye--the Yveltal attack involving Mawile and Capri, Archen being intimidated into a corner, Buizel being taken into his room for rather strange experiments, sneaking into the mess hall while Swirlix was eating more of everyone's food than she ever had, overhearing Chikorita's suppressed cries at night, longing for her friend... And lastly, Espurr taking a ride on Lapras, traveling to bury the book somewhere secluded for her to retrieve later.

Back in the present time, Espurr had stopped in her tracks on her way to the lobby, and walked over to the empty mess hall, standing in place for several minutes as she kept an eye on anyone who might still be inside the building. It seemed she still had not noticed Quetzalli's presence.

[14:12] Quetzalli reads as far into this as she can. But there are so many scenes of Espurr's recent past, and they appear disconnected... What do they have to do with each other? Quetzalli frowns deeply as she gazes, trying to piece together some meaning to what she's seeing. Archen looked rather frightened, as did Buizel, and Chikorita sounded distressed... Is there a connection there? Perhaps she would find answers if she asked these people individually what happened during those times. For example, if she could question Archen or Buizel about what happened in that corner, and in that room, respectively.

One thing seems certain. Espurr knows how to be in a hidden place during important events. How does she know when to be in the right place at the right time so frequently? Even Quetzalli, seeing the future ahead of time, isn't in the right place at the right time THAT often.

The Oracle opens her other eye, bringing herself out of her visions, back to the present, and turning her head to the Espurr near the mess hall. The Xatu hasn't moved from her post in the lobby, hidden in plain sight - or at the very least, easy to forget she's there. Espurr walked right past her, as if distracted. Quetzalli wonders if Espurr would notice if someone were to read her thoughts. It would be a good way to find out more, but some psychics have a telepathic awareness, that alerts them when a fellow psychic is reading their mind. If Espurr has that... Then this would be risky. Quetzalli would have to bluff her way out of it if she's noticed.

She reaches out psychically, establishing a mental connection, intending to tune into Espurr's brain waves, her thoughts.

Let me know if anything is amiss in my profile. Thanks for reading.

@ordinaryOddball looks nice! I wasn't of a mind to accept any more people right now, but your SU stands out as a good opportunity. You're accepted! As it happens, there might be no available point of entry for your character IC in the very near future, so you will have to wait for a bit. Sorry

Be sure to read the rules. One more time, if you have done so already.

A few things about your RP Sample: I noticed you tend to name Pokemon by their species, mystery dungeon style. We prefer putting "the" in front of the species (e.g. the Mawile, the Espurr, etc.). Additionally, since the majority of us use the past tense to write, you should do so as well, so as to keep the overall narration flowing well. Present tense doesn't look nice imo. For personal thoughts, we use italics. Lastly, there is no need to state the exact time every now and then (or ever - it's a case of show, not tell, so if you want to disclose what time it is, do so in your writing, not in numbers), just mentioning this though in passing since stating the time helped with the particular situation your sample was describing.

You don't have to fix any of these things for the sample, as that would be tedious, just keep them in mind for when the time comes to join IC. If you'd like you could read a bit of the IC to see how we do things.

      @Gladion Enforcer

you're trying to apply for a spot which is already filled. Be sure to check the original post more carefully for a list of people who are reserved/already in the RP, and to be more thorough when creating your character and making your SU.

spots are closed entirely for now, since we've filled all roles in the crew with the Psychic SU.

Awesome. I'll wait, and we can scheme out how and when I can gracefully enter the scene.

Ah, actually I prefer NOT to name Pokémon only by their species. This sample was taken from an RP community where most people just named themselves by species, however. I was the outlier, I named my character Quetzalli while most people just named themselves Archen, etc.

Past tense, and italics for thought, got it.

Exact time... huh? Oh, do you mean the timestamps at the beginning of each post? That was just left over from the instant messaging system I copypasted it from. I thought I'd leave the timestamps in just so that it was evident I had copypasted it from a chatlog. Sorry if that was unclear.

Hope that clears up the misconceptions!

happy new year to our already nearly dead OOC

here's some new things I made for everyone

I think I've missed the mark with a few, might remake them, but this is what it is for now

Officially the hardest ones were Cook (cheerful Hydreigon?! Impossibru) and suicidal Grovyle dr. allen

        enjoy, or not

Hm, do the colours in Xatu's eyes represent past and future? Just a guess.

@greigs I was thinking of putting them in every post IC but that wouldn't work. Talk about spam there, they're all over the place

@ordinaryOddball yeah that's what I had in mind. The two colors, turquoise and magenta, are the trademark colors of psychic energy, so that's why I used those

hey peeps, doubleposting here like a boss to tell you my internet's broken, might take 2-3 days or a week to fix

and before someone asks "then how are you posting this", it's because I'm a wizard obviously

... and triple posting like an absolute madman for a quick update:

Although it's been two weeks since the last post IC, because of my internet problems and some other reasons, further posts are being worked on in the shadows and will be completed when we get certain players back on. SV is without a computer atm and Alby is nowhere to be seen (will message her personally, looks like she disappeared)

Aside from meeting the job description, are there any other expectations you have for the ship navigator that might be important to note?

It's only logical that navigators have tools to do their job. Basic knowledge of how they get their job done would be nice. I think navigators should have formal education as well, but it's not an absolute requirement - your character may be self taught. Up to you. It would help with their hiring right now if they had a formal education.

Of course; I'll keep that all in mind.

I'm starting to fit some pieces together already but the bulk of the brainstorming will have to wait until I have time to peruse all the context in the OP, which should actually be quite soon.

Cheers until then! I'll update again with a more solidified idea, possibly even a finished sign-up!

The Artwork section has been added to the OP!

Here's one of the newer characters, Kahuna Raphael. Fat and myopic, he's got a helper with him at all times!

and here's the Charmeleon with the outlandish tattoos. I was looking at a reference pic of a Charmeleon who looked particularly evil so this one turned out to look evil as well (I didn't intend to do it that way, or did I?!). either way this guy is a savage and I hope it shows

Update about the RP: well we've all been a bit busy the past month with school and whatnot so post-production has been slow, hopefully we'll pick the pace back up, lots of exciting stuff to come!

Hey Ray! It's good to see you're still continuing this RP!

If it's possible, do you still have a spot open? I'm trying to jump right in back to RPing lol but net connection usually sucks. I'll try to get a post once a week lol.

If it's not, I'm just saying good luck on the RPers on this. Ciao!

Our RPs function in joint posts, multiple people contributing in lines of their own to total up to the large posts you see here. Here's a little snapshot to help you see what I mean: each typist has their own colour.
                    Screenshot 1

Or, when only two people are involved in a post:
                    Screenshot 2

It's a form of collaborative writing where you can make it feel more like a book and less like sequential post turns. Make sense now?

Anyway, I bring it up because if we were just posting large chunk posts in the forum once in a while, this would work:

Yep yep. I know how joint posts/roleplaying works lol. I've been here before and just trying to get back into the community.

Yeah, Ray already PMed me about stuff and I don't think my workload can accommodate open blue hahaha. Wishing you luck on this RP!

                    Huh.

Now this role-play looks spectacular! Novel and novella-esque, if I may. And a position is open. Well now, it certainly has my interest, though I've yet to decide if I want it for my own. I think I will read through a bit of the IC and skim the OOC for answers to questions I may have formed--and weigh a few personal items of mine--but I will surely pop in again with a post.

Here's my application for Sky Master:

                    "Anarchy" Anne
"All day long, I can hear their whispers in the sky.
                    Please, let me draw nearer."

                    AGE: 20
                    SPECIES: Banette
                    CREW POSITION: Sky Master

                    APPEARANCE:

                    Spoiler:

When I look at myself—over the edge, into the bright blue water—I see a ghost. My neck is like a sprout and not like the common stock of my folk, as the high ruff of my dress does not brush against my chops. I've been blessed with legs scarcely taller too, as they sport my leather lace-up boots comfortably. And these hands must have more stuffing, as they do not look like torn ribbons, but are still as thick as a Snorlax's cot.

I have worn this flowing dress for as long as I can remember. It is a thin white linen and tight like another skin. Both long ruffled sleeves keep in place with a large pearl push pin, driven clean through the side of my hands. They feel like they belong, piercing my cushion of a body. Three more pin across the front of my dress, perhaps fancifully, and pinch my chest. I remember collecting these pins, but I do not remember exactly this nail.

When I look, I look with one eye. The other is impaled by a giant metal nail, the pointed end of it pinning down part of the trailing ribbon from my head. Tightly-stitched tears like scars run out in four ways from that point, but they don't ache. I can grab the nail by the head, and as I pull it out, I feel nothing there. What's left is no eye. It's sunken so far in that it cannot be seen, like a button pushed deep into a downy pillow.

I can feel a part of myself in this enormous nail and I've wielded it time and again, like a rapier, like a club. With the otherworldly power of my will, it can fly at a target while my hands are free. Some part of me is stored in this bolt, but I can't find the words to describe what or how. It is made of the same metal that seals my mouth shut. The tag on the zipper has a strange emblem on it. It is an engraving for something I do not remember.

                    HISTORY:

                    I. Starting Over In Liverte
                    Spoiler:
I don't remember what it was like to be a child. I don't remember having small hands—or if I were a Shuppet first, no hands at all. I don't remember the comfort of a mother. Some bitter black feeling crops up every time I try to think that far. A grudge sits in the hole of my memory.

I can't jog my mind on my true start, but I remember where it got me. Washed up on shore one moonless night, I had just escaped something. Something big. Something like a fate worse than death, it felt like; I had fought and fought to go, and I was so tired that my body could barely move. I ended up on the southern beach of Liverte, like a throwaway ragdoll. I saw distant lights on the water, ships pulling in and out of docks the beach over. Alone, I was so anxious and worn, but gathered what bit of strength I had and went, an empty ghost. I felt lost, exhausted, forsaken—but I went, wandering toward the city nested in the low black cloud.

I don't remember much else, then. For a very, very long time—I hadn't counted the summers gone—I lived in a small space full of dusty books and tools. Only a window let in light. I heard two old voices under me, a male and a female, and they would holler and shout so often for so long into the night, until I noticed one day I just stopped hearing the lady's voice under me, just some shuffling and the male's whispers. Shame, all the shouting kept me comfort! I was so used to it! Still all the while, I'd read. All the books were on one thing: boats! I read about building boats, fixing boats, what different ones looked like split in half, what ones could fly! Some others talked about how to read the stars, and what kinds of weather there be. There were books on how to use tools for navigation, and lucky me, those books sat right next to a chest of those tools! I played with them at first, then I started learning from them. Hardly practiced them right but I did slip out the house at night and go down to the beach, standing in the water while I studied the stars. Then I'd come right back to that house before dawn.

Sometimes, if I wanted to go out during the day, I got frightfully nervous. Felt like I had some kind of spell over me not to leave while there was still sunlight, but I was so curious. One day I heard the man downstairs get so angry, he just screamed as loud as he could. That made me jump, so I screamed too! Tore my mouth right open. I felt myself bust out of my body and stream out the house—walls and them kept me none. I was flying. I had no weight. It was hard to control the very first time I did it, but while I blasted by houses through the air, I was connected to something. Something big, something great, something somewhere was calling me, and I could actually see and hear and sense so much sharper. I was in my true form, and something was begging me up in the clouds, I think. Yes! I went higher and higher, searching for this thing that I know kept luring me into the sky, but I could feel myself getting…. We'll call it tired-like. Further up I went, further away from my body, more tired I got. So I managed to steer back to my body. But I made it a habit to leave the house this way when I wanted to, and I was able to explore a good stretch of the city around me and get better with steering myself.

I remember the day I realized the old one's voice under me hadn't talked for a while. The house felt empty. I waited until night fell, before I finally went down below for the first time ever. Past the kitchen and in his quarters, sitting in a chair with a book in his lap, there was… Well, I don't remember what Pokemon he was. I'll remember when I see it—a small green one with gnarled and browning leaves on his back from age. He was utterly still with eyes open. I hadn't known at the time what death was, but I had sensed the presence of a spirit had gone. Foolish girl that I was, I sat next to his corpse and blathered about living in his attic! I apologized for not telling him sooner, and told him all the things I had learned from his books! Fancy: no reply. Figured then he was just the silent, stoic type.

I lived there awhile longer, paying no real mind to the corpse, thinking I'd let him get back to reading. One day I went downstairs and found a sheet of parchment had slipped in from under his front door. It was a posted request by some merchant group, looking to hire some Pokemon for positions on their ship, and one of them was Navigator. I did show the request to the deceased, thinking he could put his navigation knowledge to use, but I must have taken his refusal to reply as a sign I ought to do it. I ought to get some adventure. So I answered the call.

This group was at the docks, the ones not too far from where I went almost nightly on the beach. I was anxious going around high noon, as the docks were busy with 'mon I'd never seen before, and I hadn't had much practice talking to them. Didn't even know the first thing about the city's history, even. But meeting with the Persian captain of the crew—Captain Barbosa was his name, enlisted by the merchant group Wayfare & Co.—he was about to give me a little test to see if I knew any better about navigation.

But first he asked for my name. I hadn't thought about my name all the while I was living! Realising that, I let out a kind of dumbstruck sound trying to think it up quickly, but I couldn't pluck it out of my head. Barbosa mistook the sound I made as my actual answer! Sounded like I said "Anne"! Well, there it was, my name was Anne on that pier, and I didn't know what to call myself, so I took it. Asked me with an 'e' on the end, and I dumbly nodded!

He tested me on navigation things, nothing a good learner would find too hard. Did I impress! I suppose this is the time to mention that I looked pretty bonny at this time. No fat nail in my eye, none of these big scars. The accident came later. But I remember too, I showed them what really made me different from any other Navigator on this big, flat earth. I opened my mouth and let my spirit run free, and I saw everything happening on the docks in a distance no ordinary Pokemon could see. I came back and told him all of the commotion, where and how. Looked like the color came right out of his cheeks, it did! But it landed me the part!

                    II. Wayfare and The Admiral
                    Spoiler:
I was the best Navigator their little vessel ever had. Captain told me so! It was a little rocky at first since, I had to work my voice so whoever had to pilot the ship could hear, and remembering which direction the wind blew wasn't always the same as right for east and left for west. Why, I barely had a grasp of distance for the first bit—I think it was a month; time was almost lost to me back then—just throwing out numbers! But once I got my bearings, the crew was set to glide through waters safely. In fact, I never sleep. I was on guard every waking minute of the day, and that's saved us plenty of times.

Being a merchant ship, we were a prime target for pirates. We've been attacked plenty of times in our own waters near Liverte, and along our different routes. For a trade vessel, it looked like it was modified to defend itself, but just barely with a few extra cannons on board. Plenty of times we've had some two-bit pirates manage to board us. First time it happened I didn't know what to do, but as I watched crew on deck battling with their swords, I jumped out the bird's nest and tried to do the same with the rapier they gave me. I don't mind being poked, since I got poked a lot myself in some of the sword fights, but I don't like the blades that'll tear me to ribbons, so I learned real quick to call on some of my own power. Made it through alright every time. My attacks got better and better. I'd pull some stunts the crew never saw before, plenty of times too! So they called me "Anarchy Anne".

Wayfare & Co. got attention from a larger band of pirates. This band didn't want to attack us though, they instead made a deal with the guild owner, and word ran down to our captain. Their captain met with us at the docks, and an agreement was reached. Felt like Barbosa couldn't deny it if he could—the pirate said he was speaking on behalf of Admiral Charles Gallagher, one of the biggest names in the sea I later found out. Seemed like this ship of pirates was passing off their cargo duties onto us, but they heard Wayfare & Co. were one of the better merchant guilds in this part of the world, and more affordable. This Gallagher crony contracted us to make travel between a number of island ports and the pirate nation of Nautactus. We were getting handsome pay too for every successful trip, much better than the guild owner used to give us. We were given a much larger, sturdier ship to steer, equipped with what felt like luxury quarters for us, and decked with more artillery and a variety of munitions. We were even lent battle-ready pirates from Gallagher's fleet to help man this new ship, joining our crew. This great new contract was our lives through two summers.

                    III. Disaster
                    Spoiler:
Then it ended. One day changed everything. We weren't the only contracted merchant vessel under Gallagher, but because I was one of the best Navigators among them—extra thanks to my spirit scouting technique—it showed with how quickly we were able to deliver our goods. Well, that day we were entrusted with a big load. These weren't the typical munitions cargo to pick up in Nautactus, I know; the crates looked doubly-reinforced with steel as they were being loaded, and each side was engraved with an emblem. I remember that they looked different. Well, the trip we had to make wasn't particularly long once we loaded. We were at Nautactus, headed toward Kuai in the Novayas islands far northeast of the Carajol Sea, but something struck midway. It was so sudden, so damn sudden, it was a disaster that gave no way for me to tell in what was clear sunny skies that day. It didn't even creep on us in an hour's time, it was like a blink and it was upon us. Clouds a deep grey blew in on a wind I didn't feel, swollen with rain, rain that didn't stop, rain that pelted us on the head so heavy, so immediately, it nearly knocked some of us soft-heads out in hardly any time. The torrential downpour disrupted the tide around us so badly that the boat was losing speed. Thunder blasted so loud you couldn't hear your thoughts, and not even a second later followed great bright whips of lightning. It almost felt like something up in the clouds had its sights on us, Struck down the boat so quickly, just snapped it clear in two, then three, and the boat not too long after was pushed under the water from the force of the rain.

I can't remember much else about it. I was scrambling down from the crow's nest and trying to get below deck when the mast was struck by lightening and split in half, the sides came crashing down. I blacked out. It must've struck me. I had this big nail punctured through my eye when I came too, but it didn't hurt me, so I didn't even know it was there. Well, not until I couldn't see as far around me as I usually did. Every time I think about that storm, I feel so… so angry, so godforsaken mad… I don't know what happened or why. And it reminds me of something but I can't remember it, can't for the life of me.

I don't much want to talk about the rest of it. Long story short… The storm got us while we were not too far away from the tip of Antara. Washed up on shore, we wandered into the nearest town north of that point, fighting through thick jungle and wild Pokemon. We were down five men, we lost everything but the clothes on our backs, and some of them were suffering injuries worse than mine. We did what we could and when we were taken in by locals, they treated us well enough, got us some rudimentary medical attention. They were kind of wild-like—called their town Hera. I got my eye patched up. I told them to keep this nail right where it is since I no longer had my eye. I might as well have kept it like a big pin, as I had lost my rapier and used it instead during the trek up. When we were able to get the help we needed that was it for charity. We didn't have anything valuable to trade the townsfolk for proper boats and such, so we scavenged for materials with the help of our Striker, and we worked together with our Boatswain to fashion a sturdy raft for thirteen. Took us nearly a week, but we made our dodgy way back to Kuai, back to port looking pitiful, the others starved, some even dehydrated. We were supposed to meet with Gallager himself with our important shipment.

I don't want to go on much further. Ended up blaming me, he did, spat at me, saying I was a no good Navigator—to put it nicely—for not seeing a storm as great as we described approach, saying I must've steered them right into Flint's Wrath. He blamed me for losing priceless parcels, for… for deaths. It's obvious now I'm no longer bound to Gallagher or Wayfare & Co. At least he didn't value five 'mon's lives out of his enormous fleet, else if they were important, I wouldn't be here to tell my tale. We're just throwaway rag dolls.

I didn't have a home anymore, no money. I don't eat, I don't drink. I just need a purpose. Something is calling me to join their grand mass. It's up there, somewhere, in the sky. I'll only get there as an air pirate.

                    PERSONALITY:
Anne is a curious Banette with a saucy edge to her taunts, an impish manner to her sleuthing, and an excitable temperament. She carries herself with a demeanor halfway between a roguish urchin and a proper maiden, as she likes to fool about and take a mischievous lead, and yet seems to have a kind of patrician's air when she's resigned to her thoughts and a wandering eye. She's very sociable, and while new, foreign situations may give way to anxiousness, she more often than not channels it into a spritely energy.

Perhaps a trait of the species and remnant of a pre-evolution, Anne revels in others' negative emotions. She's not entirely aware of it, but being near a source of so-called bad aura invigorates her, although positivity will not invoke the inverse. The few times she's deeply upset, she's prone to wallowing in her emotions, as the power of her own greatly negative emotions seem to imbue the pins and nail in her body.

Anne is not well educated beyond water vessels, navigation tools, weather patterns, and a few cities and points of interest in the Known World. She retains her ability to speak articulately despite this, having known how to speak, read, and write in the time before the hole in her memory. She doesn't hold herself higher than another Pokemon based on lacking education or a more colloquial way of speaking. She may be self-absorbed at times, but she does not have a narcissistic nature.

                    GOAL:
Anne's reason in becoming an air pirate is because she feels it'll guide her ever closer to this amorphous spiritual entity that she calls "The Great Collective". It is her own personal belief she devised throughout her life that when she releases her spirit into the world, leaving her body behind, she feels attuned to something she thinks is in the sky. It's faint but titillating enough that she wants to explore it. Her makeshift philosophy is that when a sentient Pokemon dies, its spirit returns to this drifting mass that circles the world, both known and beyond. The mass is one homogeneous conscience that wields all knowledge of existence from the beginning of time, and should her spirit come into actual contact with the Collective, she would draw ancient power, life, and wisdom from it. She considers it her true home, and the only true escape from a grudge that she feels will consume her life, concerning the circumstances of an important event noticeably lost in her memory. If she can find out what's lost to her as well, maybe she can resolve the deep-seated rage she feels trying to recall anything beyond when she washed up on shore back in Liverte.

                    ABILITY: Insomnia
                    TYPE MASTERY / ARTIFACT: None
MOVESET: Screech, Night Shade, Shadow Sneak, Will-O-Wisp, Hex, Psychic

What is the Fifth Tenet of the Golden Code of Conduct? I don't know where that is. Sometime later, I think I'll just have to try and be alert.
