Looking really good, Colony! I'm excited to see it finished. (Psst, nice touch on Veis, whom I assume with some confidence is Veis of House Bowen, haha.)

For the rest of you--I know this is well past the deadline I set for the RP, lmao, but a six-man demon knight team really would smooth out the, erm, prologue? considerably, compared to a five-man one. I hope you understand, and well, here's a little blurb-thing on the Order of Kingmarch to tide you over, hopefully!

kingmarch: the upper echelons

General Lorr Klauser of Weissmont
Race: Hume | Age: 30 | Class: Paladin-Doomcaster​
Once known as The Blade of Silence, Lorr is a decorated military man of noble blood whose prowess is without peer. Before the advent of the demon knights, it was said that in all Ivalice, only Queen Ritz herself could give him a run for his money in a one-on-one fight. In fact, when the Ivalicean civil war seemed at its likeliest, she famously said that she could conquer all of Ivalice's castles even should they rise against her at once--all except Weissmont, where Lorr of Weissmont resides. There was never any need, however: Lorr would become one of Ritz's staunchest allies both in court and in the battlefield, and she rewarded him in kind, making him head of the strongest Order in all Ivalice. He has since cultivated a reputation for being a charismatic yet elusive leader, and entirely obsessed with following Ritz's last missives to him--whatever they may be--to the letter.​

White Thunder Monty
Race: Moogle | Age: 28 | Class: Astralcaster​
One of Kingmarch's two field commanders, Monty is by far the most knowledgeable soul in Kingmarch when it comes to lore and solving arcane mysteries, with Mana a distant second. While he often relegates himself to a supporting role--he is, after all, an Astralcaster, and one that the Order cannot afford to place in much danger--he is also a potent offensive mage due to his ownership of the White Grimoire. Written in an ancient tongue lost to all but a very few selection of arcane students--an exclusive category under which Monty falls--it grants him the ability to use devastating thunder-based skills on the same power level as Thundaga or Thundaja. Despite his manifold boons, the man himself is very much a down-to-earth sort of fellow, with an affable disposition and affinity for bad jokes. He is also easily flustered, and a subject of endless teasing by his fellow field commander Scar.​

Scarlet "Scar" Maywind
Race: Gria | Age: 27 | Class: Falcon​
As the Order of Kingmarch's designated taskmaster, Scar runs a tight ship and is extremely good at her job, despite what gria stereotypes might imply. Leading a team of just nine people, Scar's administrative quarters single-handedly handles any and all concerns regarding deployment, scheduling, finances, and paperwork--all this, while still leaving her enough time to lead Kingmarch deployments every once in a while. She credits it all to competent subordinates, but one has to wonder whether her experience as the leader of the now-disbanded Clan Maywind may have gotten her accustomed to the job. Nevertheless, aside from her astounding administrative prowess, she is still a force to be reckoned with in battle. As the ace of her top-ranking clan back in its heyday, she is capable of zipping above the battlefield,-and homing in on her targets to deliver devastating physical beatdowns.​

Mana
Race: Viera | Age: 32 | Class: Rift Mage-Holycaster​
Mana is considered one of the most talented healer in all of Kingmarch, despite being primarily an offensive mage. Her main role in the Order is to serve as an attache of sorts to the seven demon knights, accompanying them on certain missions when her healing capabilities might come in handy. Though she is a budding youth by viera standards, her talent in magic led to her being selected as part of her viera clan's expedition party some five years ago; their missive was to investigate the arcane occurences plaguing their land. She had determined that allying with Kingmarch was the best way to accomplish that goal, and so she offered her services to the Order. When not accompanying the demon knights on a mission, she can usually be found accompanying poring over yellowed tomes with Monty in the fortress' libraries, or assisting the healers in the White Wing's medical bay.​

Well, I got around to adding a character-specific RP sample that'll show a bit more of how I envision Coupe to act. I also added the second personal demonfactor skill to his kit, though I may have overtuned the numbers. Aside from whatever changes that you say need to made, Parivir, I'm done with the SU (unless I somehow missed something).

No guarantee here, depending on how life goes, but I'm interested in this roleplay. After seeing the blurb on the Kingmarch order, which lists a seventh demon knight, I'd like to ask: If Colony is accepted as a sixth player, then is there still a spot open?

EDIT #1: Reading a few posts again, it looks like a seventh spot is still open, if someone posts an SU. I'm still not sure about the seventh demon knight, though...?

You are finished, yes? This looks finished to me, but I apologize if there were a few other things you'd have wanted to touch on, hence why there's no 'finished!' notice yet. Whoooops there is and I missed it! Nevertheless, Coupe is accepted; I look forward to seeing this little loose cannon function in the RP. Welcome!

(ps. this is just from my experience playing the games, mind, but isn't the moogle speech tick 'kupo' instead of 'kuppo'? Kuppo, as I recall, is merely a minor moogle from FFIX, haha. cmiiw, though)

.....well this is a bit of a pickle, haha.

There is a seventh spot open, but if you plan on claiming it right now, I'll need a bit of certainty that you can get an SU up in a couple of days or so before I assume the rest of the RPers will behead me for delaying the IC thread for over a week, now. Mana is a disposable character and a placeholder just so that the RP can begin. If that two-day condition is okay with you, don't worry too much about her, heh.

Alternatively, you can sign up for the spot after the first major battle, which is quite a ways into the plot, I'm assuming at least a month from when the IC is first posted. If that suits your interests better, then you can PM me for further details (actually, please do, the situation for your character would be quite different than what a normal SU would warrant).

Ah, pickles, they are slippery at times, no? I will begin working on an SU, and yes, the two-day condition is fine with me. I'll PM you on what the specifics would be, as I cannot give a guarantee on when my SU would be finished.

In the meantime, I do have questions I've thought of:
1) Regarding the Reflect spell and buff: I've played both FFTA and FFTA2 myself, and from what I've seen, in the games Reflect only worked on certain spellsets. Does it reflect all magic in this RP? Or what are the limits on Reflect as a buff?
2) This is just a details kind of thing, but when it comes to spells such as Mid-Tier Primary Elecast, is the method of casting as simple as making some sort of motion and a cast time of 5-10 seconds? I hope this makes sense.

I probably had other questions, but I don't recall them. Anywhose, I'll be working on a character idea.

These are the kinds of things that I feel is best left to player discretion. As a general rule: it reflects most spells, including ones cast by summoned creatures and Scions, but players may create certain spells that explicitly bypasses Reflect or other immunities, or magic of truly overwhelming scale and power i.e. Ultima's magical blast, etc. There are no clear boundaries here, I'm afraid, hence player discretion.

2) This is just a details kind of thing, but when it comes to spells such as Mid-Tier Primary Elecast, is the method of casting as simple as making some sort of motion and a cast time of 5-10 seconds? I hope this makes sense.

The cast time in general is shorter, I imagine 4-6 seconds, but as you said this is quite the minute detail. The somatic component is not necessarily needed either, though I imagine it's incredibly common, as a method to gather focus and/or muscle memory, if nothing else.

Yep, good-but-not-great stats all around. If we're comparing this to FFTA/TA2, think a slightly more offensively powerful Blue Mage (or a more defensively powerful Red Mage, I suppose? You get the idea, I'm sure).

Here's a partial SU with what I've written so far. It's missing Appearance and History at the moment. Looking forward to this!

Age: 29

Gender: Male

Appearance: ?Why, thank you. It requires some thought to look proper, after all. We wouldn?t want some grand lady in a carriage on the street to faint at the sight of a scruffy clanner, now would we? ...Pfft, who cares??

Janek Tibor Kovac is a young hume who, if he had the choice, would rather delve into the depths of the Gollund Mines or brave the Golmore Jungle, before he?d attend another social event. Given his height of 5?7? and sturdy, rugged build, Janek would not fare badly in either instance.

In company, Janek?s mouth and fox-like eyes are almost perpetually set in a polite smile. His sun-browned face sports a scattering of freckles and what appears to be a small set of bite-scars on either side of his skewed nose. Often for days at a time, Janek allows his facial hair to grow as a stubbly beard and mustache, matching the shade of his short, russet hair.

Janek will be found wearing a small, navy-blue cavalier?s hat with a white chocobo feather; he is particular about keeping this hat with him at all times. Completing his outward attire of a Jack Knight is a knee-length cloak of the same blue, clasped just below the neck with a golden brooch. The sleeves are usually tucked into a pair of leather bracers that encase Janek?s palms, allowing free movement of his fingers.

On a given day, Janek is seen wearing a tunic and leggings in simple blues or greens, sometimes in a casual fashion when he is focused on training or magick study. His leggings are tucked into a pair of battle boots, sometimes scarred if Janek isn?t paying attention to what he puts on. Encircling his waist are two belts, one for the scabbard of his talwar and the other for a pair of belt pouches. Janek likes to keep a small journal, pen, and an Ether on hand.

Personality: ?Pardon me, but it is YA-nek, not JAN-ek. Say it with me, yes??

Janek feels more at home on the trail or in a library than when visiting with other people. He is polite enough in conversation and will smile courteously, shake hands, and other such ?rubbish,? as he calls it. This stems in part from one of his parents? teachings that image and first impressions are important, especially in meetings. Considering how his father liked to enforce this sometimes, Janek continues to live it, though grudgingly.

Niceties aside, he really is approachable, having a brighter outlook on life than many. Janek prefers to think that every person has a likable trait, yet first impressions tend to stick with him anyway. He has learned to remain calm and focused under stress or pressure, a necessity for many in his line of work. With an ear for listening, Janek has been privy to the personal troubles of clanmates and other people, particularly after they learn he will keep such knowledge confidential to himself.

In that vein of thought, Janek is at the same time prone to sarcasm and bluntness when asked about politics, social happenings, and stuck-up nobility. He doesn?t feel that he has much influence beyond himself when it comes to society at large, so he will continue doing what he knows best. Every person can only be expected to do their part in life, after all, or so he says.

The two things that do get Janek excited are new bills and assignments, and when he feels he?s found a new opportunity for studying and melding spells into new forms. Clan-work is difficult enough at times, and the more skilled and experienced a man becomes, the more often he is sought for more difficult tasks. Janek finds something fulfilling in doing such work, and this has fueled his other hobby: the study of spells.

Granted, he has a relatively limited repertoire of spells, but he still feels prompted to devise new uses for his magic. More often than not, this kind of study and ?experimentation?, or playing around really, leaves Janek with small explosions and sometimes a burnt hand or face, but he isn?t deterred. He will continue on, welcoming new challenges on the field and in whatever ?lab? he can procure for his use.

History: ?You don?t really want to hear about my life. ...Do you??

Due to severe health complications surrounding childbirth, Hynek Kazimir Kovac and Kevta Hajek-Kovac were warned against having a second child. Being an only child hasn?t bothered Janek much, however, because what he saw and heard of his parents? lives was exciting enough for him as a child. His father was a Commander in Custos Mercator, a large clan known for providing quality security to merchants, caravans, and individuals. With Hynek?s stable employment, he was able to provide a home and two servants for Kevta and Janek while he left on various assignments, usually leaving the city of Dorter.

Janek was witness to both visits from women chatting with his mother, as well as visits from his father?s clan-mates or potential contractors. He was content at first to watch and listen, but as he grew toward his teen years, the visitors began asking too many questions about him. ?Will he follow in his father?s path?? ?What has Janek been doing these days?? ?Don?t ye think it?s time ye leave that school an? figger out what t? do?? Even though his parents, and particularly his father, encouraged him to learn some etiquette and manners, Janek began trying to avoid such visits. Thankfully, Kevta also took the time to teach him about magic, having been a Royal Mage herself. (He never quite figured out how or why she went from being a palace mage to marrying a merchant guard.)

With her extensive knowledge, Kevta recognized when Janek began displaying odd bits of magic as a child. He was eager to extend his understanding of this new ability, which one day resulted in freezing another student?s arm at school. Janek?s mother began homeschooling him after that point, only to discover that he wasn?t content with magic theory and practice alone. He simply did not want to be at home all the time. Around his 11th birthday, Janek watched his father and a clanmate sparring with swords, then decided he wanted to learn more about that. While it seemed surprising to both his parents, they helped him begin training in the ways of the Jack Knight.

This training went further when a few years later, Janek began accompanying his father on his assignments. Over time, he grew more competent, yet he began to sense a vague dislike coming from the leader of Custos Mercator, Baron Marten Dominicus Van Hassel. When he asked Hynek about this, the response was that Van Hassel preferred specialists over hybrid classes, seeing that he could afford to send both a swordsman and a magick-user on the same assignment. In other words, he saw hybrids who could not master either aspect as inferior (though sometimes unavoidably necessary).

Surprised at this kind of attitude and that his father would still work with such a man, Janek decided around the age of 17 that it was time for him to set off from home and start his own life. Being his first time living away from home, he encountered a small dose culture shock via entirely new kinds of bills at the pubs, and not having a solid source of funds to fall back on. Janek struggled to find work from week to week, until he met Clan Kifius, headed by a gria Aerosmith called Cloe Bonheur. She was hesitant to accept someone as young as Janek into the clan, but after his support in bringing down a mark, Cloe conceded.

Clan Kifius travelled throughout Ivalice and sometimes into one of the surrounding countries, picking up bills with varying degrees of success. Janek learned how to adapt to different circumstances, and he continued playing around with his spells to see what more he could figure out. All the same, he continued to be of great help, gradually earning the respect of Cloe and the clan-members.

About two years after joining Clan Kifius, Janek found a bill that spoke of travellers being harried by ghosts as they passed Lake Poescas. Considering how he hadn?t encountered ghosts or the kind before, Janek brought the bill to Cloe?s attention, and she agreed that the clan should investigate. Besides, if they found a threat too great for them to handle, then they could retreat and report it to one of the Thirteen Orders. And so began Janek?s first big exposure to creatures of the arcane.

After skirting the shores of the dried lake late at night and finding nothing pertinent to them, Cloe sent a moogle Black Cavalier into the lakebed for scouting, on account of the chocobo?s speed. Hardly ten seconds later, the black chocobo returned in a fright, his rider William shuddering and wordless. The group prepared for battle as behind William, an oversoul and several wraiths appeared one by one.

With a Holycaster present, Clan Kifius decided to stand and fight, and at first they held their ground. Janek himself was shaken at first, but a few minutes into the battle, his resolve hardened as the Holycaster and Cloe both fell prone to a Doomcaster that appeared on the scene. In short, the battle ended with the Doomcaster and oversoul fleeing the scene, and Janek and a seeq Corsair named Zack the only ones still conscious.

Naturally, after regaining consciousness, Cloe took Janek with her to the city surrounding Limberry Castle in order to report the incident. However, it seemed that nobody at the castle was taking them seriously, or at least nobody that they could meet. What proof had they, after all, of a battle with ghosts? To Janek, this seemed a point against the nobility in his book that they weren?t willing to listen. The next step was to send a messenger to Fort Besselat, because the Order of Kingmarch at least should look into something involving the arcane. Right?

A few days later, while Clan Kifius rested and waited for a response, Janek got word from Dorter that his father required his presence. He only said it regarded his son?s future, so as a dutiful son, Janek returned to his father?s home. Zack the corsair tagged along because, in his own words, ?I want a change o? scenery, ye know, afte? that little incident.?

Equipment:
A favorite among certain duelists, the Talwar has also been known to be used by palace guards throughout the countries. While Janek has little interest in either, he favors its hand guard and the fact that this saber was one of many swords forged by Chita?s Weaponers. [Weapon. Greatly improves attack power.]

Though it is claimed that a hero-king of old wore this kind of garment, the Wygar Cloak is likely only advertised as such by those seeking to make a profit. Nevertheless, having been reinforced with magic, the cloak is appreciated by those who wear it and survive battles and assassination attempts. [Cloak/Armor. Moderately improves physical defense, slightly improves resistance, grants immunity to Instant Incapacitation/OHKO.]

It helps to look classy and unique, does it not? A sturdy, navy blue Cavalier?s Hat adorned with a feather plucked from a white chocobo, replacing the more traditional hat of a Jack Knight. [Headgear. Provides minimal boost to defense and resistance.]

To hold up hair, use a hairpin; to wear a cloak, wear a brooch. This Gold Brooch also defends the wearer against magic and becoming mute. [Accessory. Slightly improves resistance, grants immunity to the Silence ailment.]

These Leather Bracers are designed to protect without interfering with the business of combat. [Gloves. Provides minimal boost to defense.]

Leather Battle Boots are often standard fare for those who can't afford better boots, and those who don't afford to care. [Footwear. Provides minimal boost to defense.]

Due to the demands of their disciplines, Jack Knights have to be capable of casting spells while swinging a sword. Through extensive training, these warriors have hardened their focus enough to alternate seamlessly between physical and magical attacks. Such concentration does, however, tire one out rather quickly, and so Multitasking must be used in moderation. While active, Jack Knights can concentrate on the mental preparations of spellcasting even while fighting enemies with sword in hand. As such, their attacks land in rapid succession, which may overwhelm the foe, giving them no chance to retaliate.

Demon Factor Skills

Primal Boost is a technique that forces both body and mind to work at their maximum capacity, heightening the physical and magical capabilities of its user. When activated, this ability boosts all of the Jack Knight?s parameters by 50%, and bestows upon them the buffs Protect and Shell, further increasing durability. Primal Boost is unexpectedly lenient on the body: it lasts ten minutes, and can be used up to four times a day, with at least twenty-minute intervals inbetween uses.

demonfactor/REND DEFENSES [EX+] [Jack Knight, Personal]
Through many trials and errors, Janek was able to piece together a technique that would achieve the opposite of Protect and Shell. When activated, Rend Defenses imbues the user?s physical and magical attacks with energy that, four times out of five, lowers an enemy?s defense and resistance by 30% for up to ten minutes. Rend Defenses is active for up to five minutes at a time and can be used up to three times a day, with one-hour intervals in between uses.

After a dire situation forced him to cobble together different spells into one, Janek took the time to refine what he dubs Shield and Heal. When cast, the user forms a durable bubble shield up to five meters radius. The shield can take a large amount of damage before it would break, and the user can focus on pieces of it to reinforce such patches. It also has a 50% chance of Reflecting magic back at casters. Units inside the shield are imbued with healing equal to one Cure spell per minute. Shield and Heal requires the user?s complete focus and can be maintained for up to ten minutes, shorter if the shield is larger or if it is destroyed. This spell can only be used twice a day, with three-hour intervals in between uses.​

  • I just discovered the RPT's discord today; would people want a Kingmarch channel on there? I would rarely be on but perhaps it'd be a good avenue to build on character interactions and JPs and such?

Actually I wouldn't mind a discord server myself. If you want to open a new server, I'm game for that! I don't rally like the main rpt server cause for the most part I tend to not check it all that much, haha. Not enough time these days for that!

Awesome, I've been watching for the IC! I will let you know about the OP. I do think a Discord channel would help in terms of communication for both the group and individuals, but I'm not familiar with the PC channel at all...

(I'll check the rules again for that password, in case I missed something.)

I agree with Greiger and Garet. A Discord channel would be pretty nice to have for more direct communication on posts and discussions. Granted, I don't use the RPT channel, but the one I use for Vale has made that RP infinitely livelier, for the most part.

As for Kingmarch, I'll try to get a post out no later than Friday. Still debating on what to write about, so if someone wants to JP with the crass moogle, just let me know (That being said, Greiger, if you want, we could JP. It'd make sense for Coupe to be a frequent lookout, what with his experience with firearms and sniping).

I just discovered the RPT's discord today; would people want a Kingmarch channel on there? I would rarely be on but perhaps it'd be a good avenue to build on character interactions and JPs and such?
Yeah, that'd work. I'm always on Discord when I'm online nowadays, it's usually the fastest place to be reached, and most convenient for communication. But I also have never ventured into the RPT Discord server, so maybe a separate server strictly for Kingsmarch would be ideal (since it would also avoid receiving notifications for non-Kingsmarch things, and have less clutter)

Sorry that this took so long, I am absolutely hopeless with this newfangled discord digital contraption thing. I think you can follow this link?? https://discord.gg/AChse9M to the Kingmarch private channel? I'll swing by every so often to get the permissions in order and so on. I think this is how this works lmao please forgive me if not

(i would have invited yall manually but i assume yall are under aliases as i can only find dungeon maker haha)

ps if youre not part of the RP Backstage discord yet and would like to be a part of Kingmarch's discord, you should probably do the former first because obviously it's a prerequisite of the latter etc. you know, probably.

I PM'd you with my Discord ID, Parivir, after joining the RP Backstage Discord. And I agree, technology is confusing sometimes.

I will be working on my first IC post, as well. My thinking is that Janek will either 1) be working on a pub's bill, or 2) trying something new with his spells again, in case anyone else would be in the same area.

Regarding the People You May (Need To) Know and something else... I haven't been all that clear on how long ago the demon knights graduated from Project Bel and were inducted into the Order of Kingmarch. Was it on an individual basis, or as a group? And, I imagine they have met the leadership of Kingmarch in person, but they don't know the leaders on a personal basis...? This is for future reference.

All solid grievances, thank you for airing them.

1) You didn't graduate from the program all at once, no, but it was always made clear in Project Bel that either you were heading for the Order of Kingmarch or an early grave. Oh, and because you spend most of your years in the program undergoing rigorous testing, being generally exhausted, and going through long-term lapses of unconsciousness, it's quite difficult for you to have developed interpersonal relationships with other demon knights prior to being knighted.

2) Definitely you've met with the leadership before. Just keep in mind that Lorr is a distant commander and only has relationships with you on a formal and businesslike basis, if you want to bunny him in future posts. If you want your character to have developed friendships, rivalries, etc. with Monty, Scar, or Mana, however, feel free. Mana in particular is a good candidate for this since she regularly goes out on missions accompanying a party of demon knights (incidentally, normally a group of only two or three demon knights are sent on such excursions, not including Mana. Hence why the summons for all seven demon knights is quite irregular.)

in other news, let me echo Dungeon Maker: exciting things happening all around! Hope to see yall post in IC soonish as well, heh.
