No, it needs to be a team member, not an HM slave. This challenge isn't meant to be soloed.

What about my second planned trade to use, it's found late in the game, so do I HAVE to use Machop or so, or just keep it in the team until I reach the point?

You don't have to, just on your final team, you need to have the one you plan on having.

I also have done all the trades except the three Cinnabar Island ones and the Nidorino-Nidorina trade on Route 11, and Lapras is my last gift to get.

Pictureless update. I am about to be in Meteor Falls. I have Nica (Sceptile) and MAKIT (Hariyama) and after I beat flannery, I'll add NAPOLEON (Octillery) to the team. I only have one trade and no gifts yet. We're getting there...slowly but surely.

Also want to point out...you get a Makuhita named MAKIT from a boy named Elyssa. Then a Skitty named SKITIT from a girl named Darrel. Now I don't know about y'all, but I think they got that stuff mixed up. The girl should be Elyssa with the Skitty and then Elyssa should be the boy with the Makuhita. lol

Oh and I have 6 badges.

Done! I'd give a synopsis of progress, but I am too lazy right now :p

My final update and I do not think I can finish this challenge. School gets in the way too much :(
Well, my Petilil evolved into Lilligant and it is at lv.43 right now.
The rest of my team are Lucario, Zoroark, Swanna.
