Btw we need a UI for the Pokepad. This is what we've got right now:


As you can see the colors don't go well and it's kind of amateur-ish (because it is). The idea is that the small squares will hold application icons for the apps on it, and you kind of pick an app. The bottom textbox just displays a description of the application you've picked. Pressing A on an application would launch it.

If someone can please improve or redesign the interface, we would be greatful.

Just going to add to this by saying it should have a consistent visual feel: all the apps should feel like apps on the same device rather than a random mix of interfaces. Thus, I propose we copy the Pokenav and have a help bar that persists across all the screens, e.g.



We also need something for the Pokedex. I think it should look somewhat like the storage system/ORAS Pokedex:

Heya friends I'm the latest artboy in the party and here's a trainer sprite. There's a few variations because while I do like Nina's designs I just thought I'd see how it looks with a few more pockets and such. I'm more partial to having just pants pockets myself. Also there's a ball in hand and ball thrown version because while I think ball thrown is cool it might look weird on a trainer card.

Assume that the better elbow will be on the final sprite depending on what variation we pick. Unless it's not actually better? In any case the sprites I post are free to be edited by anyone and have appropriate changes made to them just keep in mind I've used all 16 colours of the palette and it gets pretty messy in some places because frlg style confuses me sometimes.

After some discussion on discord about consistency and stuff we decided we should maybe try have dppt styled trainer sprites instead so that they'll look better with the Pokemon sprites we plan on using.

Gave the heroine a slight smile because the leaf ceremony sprite looks weird if she's not smiling and it looks weird when shes smiling there and so serious in her trainer sprite imo. Also added it to the original post with the trainer sprites so the wrong one doesn't get used?

Waving the hand they hold their Pokeballs with because that kinda makes more sense?
These are the ones I'll be fixing and reuploading from now on because I think it makes more sense.

I love the sprite work! It'd be quite interesting if y'all went the Prism route and at least allowed the custom colors on the character, maybe?

Also, might just be me, but half of monkeybard's pictures are gone.

Also also, has anyone considered making the sprites mimic what b/w(2) did with the sprites, giving more or less emphasis to the body so they don't look all squished?

Edit: errr, now that I think about it, depending on the style of the tiles, that might make the OW sprites look like they're lying on the ground

Our first gym leader, the Normal-type specialist and ruin guardian Aldous.

And tho this thread has been more for sprites I figure the title's broad enough for character design stuff and the character design thread's pretty dead so here's a concept for the 2nd rival as well, who is Aldous' grandchild.

EDIT: Should mention that her design is mostly reusing Nina's design found earlier in this thread (link anyway) before there was anything really written about her.
EDIT EDIT: And this is a link to the descriptions we have of Aldous and the 2nd Rival so far, which I feel like I should include here as well.

While I love the art and the sprites so far, I still think that the male protagonist looks too feminine, even in sprite form. Most of the issues are coming from the headband, I think. Perhaps repositioning it so that it's a sweatband or bandana instead that goes under his bangs but over the hair on the back of his head would work better. His posing is also not doing him any favors in the "guess my gender" department. The OW especially looks like a female OW to me, and his throwing animation (with the placement of his left hand on his shoulder strap) reads as a feminine gesture when combined with everything else. I truly think that making the headband a bandana/sweatband would be a minor edit that would greatly improve the protagonist and how he reads. And this is coming from someone who looks fairly androgynous, so my opinion is not being informed by dude-bro tendencies.

That said, Aldous looks friggen' amazing and totally better than I pictured him in my head while we were thinking him up. Bela and I worked on the Gym Leaders and shrine guardians last time we spoke, and fleshed out the typings and general appearances. Perhaps tomorrow I'll write up a post in the story thread describing them and their personalities so more art can be made.

I'm still perfectly okay with the male design myself, especially since the female protagonist will also be prominently featured even when you pick male, making it more obvious which one is male and which one is female. That said, while there are a lot of sprites for both protagonists already I can try repositioning the headband when I have time.

EDIT: Some people have been saying stuff about lots of missing sprites in my posts, that's because I update them a lot and move them in and out of a folder containing "latest versions" of all sprites, which you can find here if you want to see anything that might have disappeared into the aether in my posts above.
