Unfortunately the later generations hardly introduced any Poison Pokémon though :( Gen I introduced 34 out of the total 57 Poison type Pokémon; that's well over half of all Poison types. So I agree that they were indeed hugely abundant in Gen I (probably the reason that so few have been made since), but that has left open so many holes for new Poison types to be made which should be taking advantage of the new moves, abilities, strategies, items, etc, all available with the new generation. 'Cos lets be honest, the majority of dual-Poison types such as Venosaur, Crobat, Roserade, Beedrill, Nidoking, etc, don't have their Poison typing focused on much at all. They mainly rely on their other typing's moves and if any the Poison side of them usually goes ignored :x This is why I think we need more Poison types introduced. :D

Or as an alternative it'd be nice to get some new evolutions for existing Poison types; something like Arbok, Wheezing, Muk, etc, could really evolve into a complete beast of a Pokémon. An evolved Muk would be the utter king of stalling. x]

Reason: I'm dissapointed that just about all of the poison type specialists to this date are ninjas, and from kanto for that matter (excluding Roxie, but I havn't fought her yet)
If I were a poison type specialist I would take on a different theme, possibly a scientist or medical doctor or maybe the head of a (nuclear?) Powerplant! I've got it!

The champion of a region being the rich son (kinda like steven) of a powerplant owner. Growing up, his fathers powerplant has brought in a lot of poison types to where he lives. He's made them as his friends and now he's the most powerful trainer in the world! If that were me my team would be:

Weezing
Venomoth
Tentacruel
Drapion
Gengar
Muk

It's well ballanced because it helps cover against poison's natural weaknesses, psychic and ground.

Hey dude, welcome to the club! Glad to see that Poison type lovers aren't such a dying breed. ♥ Hmm, that's actually a really interesting point you raised, I never considered the ninja thing. o.o I suppose Koga and Janine were related though so it kinda makes sense that they're both ninjas? Although if you think about in-game trainers, all the ones with Poison themed teams are either evil teams like Team Rocket, or, as you said, ninjas. It seems that Poison types aren't that well-liked in the Pokémon world then :( Although I honestly can't imagine many different trainer types that would suit a Poison type team, perhaps other than a Scientist. I'm not sure why a doctor would be using Poison types considering he's meant to heal people xD Anyway, what made you choose Muk as your partner? I was expecting Swalot from a Hoenn lover such as yourself. x] That's a great choice though; I utterly adore Muk ♥ And your team looks incredibly powerful and well thought out - Poison Pokémon are very diverse! :D

Aren't that well liked? Can you think of any cooler trainer types than Ninjas or Team Rocket? I sure can't xD For me being so closely associated with Team Rocket just adds to the awesome.
Welcome Okjoek :D post often

Weezing
Venomoth
Tentacruel
Drapion
Gengar
Muk

Not bad but I'd get rid of either Weezing or Muk for Crobat. Get as many type varieties as possible, something poison is great at.

Emerald was my first game, but I did grow up with the original 150 in the cartoon series. Plus when I was given an old copy of Fire Red last year I decided to play it since I had never played a Kanto centered game before. Koga's Muk gave me hell. I had to rematch once or twice to beat him. After looking up Muk on bulbapedia I was shocked to see Muk had such a good stat build. Extreemely bulky and physical attacker for the most part. I've never had that much luck with a swalot before though.

My movesets are:
Weezing-
Clear smog
Thunderbolt
Payback
Explosion

Venomoth (tinted lens)-
Quiver dance
Toxic
Bug buzz
Venoshock

Tentacruel-
Surf
Sludge wave
Toxic spikes
Barrier

Drapion-
Swords dance
Poison Jab
Crunch
Earthquake

Gengar-
Shadow ball
Psychic
Thunderbolt
Focus blast

Muk-
Gunk shot
Payback
Brick break
Rest

I actualy make a small slideshow on my youtube channel featuring this team to get it rated there, but I've gotten few replies. I also put a small tribute to poison types at the end of the video. I don't think I can post links however, but my channel name is "okjoek1".

Poison Club YAY ! And the title of this thread has the word Toxic in it... it is a sign ! I want to join !

Name : ToxicGame
Partner : Ariados
Reason : It's my favorite type (as you can see from my username) and I'm currently doing the Ultimate Monotype Challenge with it... I think it's a must for a good strategy, some of the pokémon have a great design (Nidoran family, Spinarak family, Seviper and Arbok are among my favorites) and they can't be poisoned. What more can I ask ?

Interesting choice, but I prefer using Curse Muks or even Stalling Muks x] How does this set work out for you? I think Muk's an important Pokémon to take advantage of its bulk with tbh. :3

Hi there, welcome to the club! :D Omg I love the Spinarak family so much <3 Ariados is such a cool Pokémon! But what exactly do you love about it so much? c: The ability to never be poisoned is incredibly useful as Toxic is a horrid move to come up against if you're not prepared, so I have to agree with that being one of their best traits. :3 So what image do you think Poison types generally tend to have in Pokémon media? (ie good or evil?)

let us bring this club back up, shall we?
Consider how many Pokemon look, you're more likely to be able to tell how the Pokemon media will generally portray a pokemon based more on its appearance rather than its typing. Vileplume and Victreebel were built as counterparts (on the most basic level) they both have the same typing and act as version exclusive. Looking at them however guess which one is portrayed as 'evil'. Yeah it's not the feminine one with the smiley face it's the Venus-flytrap with the capping mouth and sharp teeth. Compare the big scary spider Ariados to fairly neutral Venomoth.
It's more that 'scary' pokemon tend to poison, dark or ghost type rather than the types themselves being portrayed one way as a whole.

I think that's mostly because there are very few poisonous creatures that aren't scary or evil looking. xD The only one I can think of is a poisonous toad (which is arguably quite ugly) which I'm surprised there hasn't been a Poison type made around yet. Perhaps Seismitoad comes close I don't know, but the kind of small, agile, poisonous tree frog I'm thinking of certainly hasn't been made yet. Do you guys think this'd be a good concept for a Poison Pokémon to be based on? o3o

Well we've got Croagunk and Toxicroak for toad like poison types.
Hmm I find myself growing less able to think of new pokemon now. I could imagine them creating living smoke which may seem similar to Gastly. Surprised we haven't seen a bug/poison mosquito styled pokemon yet. Even maybe a giant bacteria blob thing (I mean we've got one based on a stomach!)

... How did I forget about those two lmao. Okay never mind we do have poisonous toads I'm just being thick xD I think the mosquito idea is good though, that would look awesome o3o And certainly would be viable as a poison type. And tbh I wouldn't be all that surprised if the blob thing did happen; based on Grimer > Gulpin > Trubbish they're going to have a new one at some point so why not base it on that? xD I certainly think of anything else it'd be based on haha.

I love Drapion because it is a strong poison pokemon and it learns some awesome moves. I love poison pokemon because I like the design of most poison pokemon I love the colour purple and Sludge Bomb rocks.

I understand Koffing, but Grimer smiles too! & Bulbasaur! :D

Since everyone says Koffing, I'm going with the most popular & annoying one, ZUBAT! Just look at how happy it is for a photo :)

Seems like Koffing is the winner, sorry Sector! I've updated the front page with what I thought was a cute picture, but if you guys want to change it then feel free to suggest some :D In light of this, let's talk about the Koffing family!

So as we all know, the Koffing family and Ekans family were somewhat rivals in the older generations, mainly influenced by Team Rocket's Pokémon, but now my question to you is: Which family do you prefer?

They're roughly similar in stats (Wheezing's a fair bit higher but that's mostly due to Defence :3) and their move pools are somewhat similar (with obvious physical/special differences), but their personalities and designs are incredibly different. So which is your favourite?

I can't say I love them both but I will say Eknas/Arbok because there badass.
Also can my partner pokemon change to Muk please. I like that beautiful pile of sludge.

Of course you can, I've changed it for you. :) Good choice by the way, Muk is a wonderful Pokémon! It's my second favourite, right behind it's pre-evolution Grimer. :D What made you choose Muk? c:

As for the topic, I prefer the Weezing family! Weezing is an utterly wonderful Pokémon both in design and usability. It's incredibly cute and looks simply amazing, plus the way it floats around like a huge derp face is adorable <3 Arbok looks amazing too don't get me wrong, but Weezing is certainly my favourite of the two. And when it comes to battling, Weezing wins again. It has higher stats (not hugely higher, but the big Defence boost is very useful) and I find its move pool a lot more interesting to play around with than Arbok's. They are both Pokémon I love using and I think they're both incredibly well designed/thought out, but Weezing is certainly my favourite of the pair.

I was watching the original pokemon episodes and seeing Ash's Muk made me love it even more. And what it does to Professor Oak is funny. Muk is my new fav pokemon.
