Trying to use Pokemon I haven't used before, but it's tough since I've played through Johto so many times.

Current team before facing Chuck...

Bayleef
Pidgeotto
Quagsire
Miltank
Magnemite

Not sure what I'm going to put in the 6th slot. Was thinking of Shuckle, but... he gets no STAB bug moves, and only one STAB rock move.

Not to mention both his attacking stats are far too puny to use any direct attack offensively. If you're going to use Shuckle, I would deck it out mostly with defense moves like Toxic or Encore. The only attacking move Shuckle can use even remotely well is Rock Slide.

The TM for toxic isn't obtainable until Kanto in Janine's gym, so Shuckle takes a lot of patience to use in a playthrough

Resetted because I wanted to try something new for this playthrough I figured. Next time original team I swear. Now I got:
- Croconaw (lv. 21)
- Ekans (lv. 16)
- Oddish (lv. 10)
- Togepi (lv. 5, freshly hatched)

I'm doing a blind run i.e. I do not have my team planned beforehand. I'm catching and using any that are interesting to me, so I'm wondering what I end up with. I am considering taking Raikou in my team because I don't know any other electric-type I could have (electric is one of the must-haves for me).
Jolteon, Magnemite, Voltorb, Mareep.

Really, Magnemite could also fill out a Steel slot in your team.

1) Don't you have really late access to a Thunderstone? I don't like keeping an Eevee until Kanto.

2) I always use Mareep so this time not.

Didn't think of others tho, I'll see.

For Crystal, my save file corrupted because the internal battery died out. I was at the E4 with Meganium, Noctowl, Aipom, Sudowoodo, Machoke and Cloyster. I'll get my battery replaced soon.

For Silver, I'm at the Ilex Forest with Quilava, Bellsprout and Slowpoke so far. I planning on getting Umbreon, Skarmory and Piloswine as my final members.

Just finished the game, beat red under-leveled with

Feraligatr (Lvl 51) Surf, Screech, Return, Iron Tail

Bellossom (Lvl 50) Sleep Powder, Sludge Bomb, Petal Dance, MoonLight

SandSlash (Lvl 47) Strength, EarthQuake, Defense Curl, Rollout

Jynx (Lvl 48) Ice Punch, Body-Slam, Lovely-Kiss, Psychic

Umbreon (Lvl 48) Curse, Shadow Ball, Flash, Toxic

Noctowl (Lvl 47) TakeDown, Hypnosis, Dream Eater, Fly

The battle with Red lasted nearly an hour...mostly because I had nothing against Blastoise and Snorlax. My plan for Blastoise was petal dance with bellossom, but got one shotted with blizzard. Had to stall it out with umbreon + toxic.

Snorlax was even worse. Spammed flash 6 times with umbreon so it didn't rip through my team. Toxic did nothing because he had rest. Shifted through my team and had nothing that could damage it. Finally used screech with Feraligatr, and it was enough to chip it to death. Was actually going to have to forfeit.

Only used one revive the entire match, and it was because the snorlax cheated through -6 accuracy and body slammed me to death. Very frustrating but still overcame it

how did you get such high levels? i am at elite four and not even level 40's

Grind and grind I guess. Do not avoid any trainers or flee from any battles.

Decided to just try fighting Red with my team since I see people winning him with levels way lower than mine and I won him. He was easy pesky for the strongest trainer in GS lol-- Took him out within 5 minutes. Snorlax was annoying though but Rock Smash really helps lower his Defence stat.

Just reached Ecruteak!

My team's been juggled around since I'm super indecisive about who I want to bother training since exp is so precious in this game with the low-level wilds, but this is who I have atm:

Honorable mention goes out to Arbok too, and I'm currently breeding Zubat with Gust and Quick Attack because I love Crobat, but just found out that it doesn't really learn any Poison-type moves so I probably won't use it in the long run :(

Badges: 4. Just kicked Morty's butt and it was no picnic. That pesky Gengar kept pulling the Hypnosis/Dream Eater combo, so I had to shuffle in Quilva to finish the ghostly jerk off. Why are Johto's gym leaders so difficult? Kanto's are so much easier to beat.

Also, I have a Ditto and Tauros in the day care center. I plan to get them out once they become high level monsters.

Surprisingly, I decided to keep my Ekans.

I finished both versions. Both my teams are around level 50.

My Gold team was assembled as I went along:
  • Typhlosion
  • Heracross
  • Crobat
  • Ampharos
  • Dewgong
  • Golem

My Silver team, on the other hand, was assembled after a few trades between my completed Gold game and R/B/Y, by sending eggs to the Silver game I had just started.

  • Feraligatr
  • Venusaur
  • Charizard
  • Sneasel
  • Rhydon
  • Magneton
