The Amori Region

Pokedex | Gyms | Routes | Towns

Introduction

The Amori Region is a special, magical region in the world. Located in the plains and valleys between the Talis Mountains to the east and the Dallion Mountains to the west, it is accessible only from the Vasto Badlands in the north and the sea to the south. For this reason the borders of the region have changed very little over time and the people and Pokemon of Amori have a long and mostly unbroken history and connection to the land.

Northern Amori is a temperate region, colder and dryer in the mountains, wetter closer to the sea. A large amount of the land is forested, but the trees fade toward the norther border. Many cities and towns in the north are built in valleys or along rivers and coastlines, but there are still several in the large flatlands common in the far north, where plains, desert, and scrubland predominate.

Southern Amori, defined primarily by the large, central island, is warmer, dryer, and windier than the north. It's rocky in the northern half, forested in the south, and most settlements exist on or near the coast. A small landless community also floats in the middle of the sea in the region's southwest.

A specialized capability or endowment known as affinity is found in the people of Amori.

Affinity
Since the ancient past a magical field has covered and surrounded the region. People born in Amori are born with an innate affinity to one type. They feel a strong connection with Pokémon of that type and for places and people associated with that type. People with a Fire affinity will prefer hot, sunny weather, people with a Fighting affinity will prefer competition, and so on. The connection is not immediately known when someone is born, but discovered as a child grows and shows a preference for one type or another. As people mature into early adulthood a secondary affinity type emerges which further influences their tastes and interactions with the world.

With practice and discipline some are able to hone special skills or feats associated with their type affinity. Someone with a Water affinity may be able to hold their breath for a long time, or a person with a Bug affinity might have better than average senses. A very few number of people have strong natural talents, and the myths speak of people with abilities today only seen in Pokémon, but no one living is capable of materializing such feats.

Amori-born people have a tendency to seek out others with similar affinities, but this is only a minor preference and people can befriend and love anyone regardless of their type. Likewise, those who chose to train Pokémon will typically prefer ones that share their type or types, but they are not incapable of bonding with Pokémon of a different type from them.

The origin of affinity is not well understood, but it is known to be a local phenomenon. People who come to Amori from other regions do not present any signs of affinity, but should they decide to settle and start families their children typically will develop affinity. People with affinity will also feel their connection fade the further away they move from Region, though it will recover in time if they return.

Single, Double, and No Affinity
Some people never develop a secondary affinity while others' secondary type matches their existing affinity. These people will tend toward a more straightforward preference and appreciation for their type, more so in people with a double affinity for a certain type. People with a double affinity will find it difficult to train and bond with Pokémon of differing types, but it will not be impossible for them to do so.

A few unfortunate people are born without an affinity to any type. The cause of this is a mystery. These individuals are not incapable of becoming trainers, but they typically show no overall preference in the Pokémon they train, nor will they have set tastes in their life. Consequently many will show signs of restlessness and wanderlust, never staying in the same place for very long.

Pokémon Gyms
Because most people develop two affinities gyms are designed to focus on two types, generally those of the head trainer or gym leader. Trainers who work in such gyms will not usually share both affinities the gym represents, but typically will share at least one.

The Affinity Modelers
There exists a group of interlopers who claim to have discovered a way to change a person's affinity, remove it, or even add a third affinity to a person. The claims are unsubstantiated, but it does not prevent their rallies and meetings from pulling large crowds. Most are curious onlookers, but a dedicated core of followers have spread their message to every corner of Amori.

The motivation of this group, according to them, is fairness and equality to all people who live in Amori. They want to give affinity to those who come from other regions to settle. They also want to give a choice to everyone in the region so that they will not be bound to what they have called "primitive urges."

There have always been swindlers, people who, for a fee, will supply the unsuspecting with questionnaires or tests supposedly to determine what their "true" affinity is. Whether the Modelers are just another group of scammers is yet to be seen.

This is something I had leftover from WoPC. Mostly it's based on a typical Pokemon game without too many changes.

Affinity Determiner

If you'd like to figure out your primary and secondary affinity, grab your profile ID number. This is the number in the url when you're on your profile page. Take the last two numbers of your ID and find it on this chart.

Bug: 01, 21, 41, 61, 81
Dark: 02, 22, 42, 62, 82
Dragon: 03, 23, 43, 63, 83
Electric: 04, 24, 44, 64, 84
Fairy: 05, 25, 45, 65, 85
Fighting: 06, 26, 46, 66, 86
Fire: 07, 27, 47, 67, 87
Flying: 08, 28, 48, 68, 88
Ghost: 09, 29, 49, 69, 89
Grass: 10, 30, 50, 70, 90
Ground: 11, 31, 51, 71, 91
Ice: 12, 32, 52, 72, 92
Normal: 13, 33, 53, 73, 93
Poison: 14, 34, 54, 74, 94
Psychic: 15, 35, 55, 75, 95
Rock: 16, 36, 56, 76, 96
Steel: 17, 37, 57, 77, 97
Water: 18, 38, 58, 78, 98
You Choose: 19, 39, 59, 79, 99
Random: 20, 40, 60, 80, 00

(For a random result, go to random.org and generate a new number.)

That's your primary type affinity. You could choose your secondary type if you weren't overly happy with your primary type, or if you want it to be completely guided by fate you'd use the next two numbers of your ID.

So, for example, my profile url is www.pokecommunity.com/member.php?u=152968 so my ID number is 152968. The last two numbers are 68 so my primary type is Flying. I'll take the next two numbers which are 29 so my secondary affinity would be Ghost. That would give me a Flying/Ghost affinity, meaning I would have a Flying-type preference for Pokemon and a Flying-inspired attitude and outlook, however that might turn out. As I matured I would have further influence from my secondary Ghost-type affinity.

Coastoff Town
A seaside town with a rocky beach. It sits at the foot of the Dallion Mountains and the edge of the Dallion Forest.

picture.php
Coastoff Town

This small town suits those with an adventurous spirit and those who enjoy a cozy home life. Many people come to Coastoff to sail, fish, hike, and camp in and around the forest while others prefer to cook, relax, and socialize in the many wooden cabins scattered around town. Both types can enjoy the cool sea air and mist rolling down from the mountains.

Tangettle Town
This town is nestled in the Tangettle Woods, surrounded by tall, broad-leaf trees and fields of colorful flowers.

picture.php
Tangettle Town

The town is well known for its small town charm. Its stone streets and buildings give it an old, fairy tale-style atmosphere that's calming and refreshing. This is the kind of town where people greet each other on the streets and gossip spreads quickly - all the townspeople know one another. They still welcome visitors to sit down for a cup at one of the many tea houses and encourage them to chat and maybe window shop, enticing them with the many local crafts on sale as gifts and mementos.

The Tangettle Gym sits on the outskirts of town atop a strange hill where all the trees grow at strange angles. A small creek runs beside the gym, and if you stop to watch it the water seems to run uphill toward the gym. The gym itself is a round stadium with benches and bleachers of wooden logs surrounding a stone stage.

Priscade Town
The town sits along the edge of the river where a waterfall rushes over the edge of a cliff.

picture.php
Priscade Town

Built of brick years ago when it was a thriving industrial town, Priscade pushes nearly to the edges of the water and the cliff, giving impressive views of the valley all the way down to the sea and to the mountains which provide the town with its chilly water. Everywhere the sound of running water can be heard. Travel through the town is done on foot across the many bridges spanning the town, or by boat through the many canals crisscrossing the area. A series of stairs and railings lead down to the pools below the town where one can view old fossils in the exposed bedrock.

Several old factories are in the process of being converted to run on hydroelectric power generated by the new dam upriver. The dam also provides much of the electricity to the nearby Asvelt City.

Asvelt City
A city amid a wide plain, with tall towers, apartment buildings, and countless antennas pointing to the sky.

picture.php
Asvelt City

This large, spread out city abounds with railroads, highways, and power lines, spread like cobwebs in every direction, crackling with the energy of its lively citizens who seem always to be on the move. Underground shopping centers blast music and colorful advertisements. Rocking nightclubs illuminate the dark streets. This is a city which embraces technology and lifestyle. The more leisurely can still enjoy the parks and bicycle paths dotting the city, and the shopping in one of the many train station depots can provide both local and faraway goods for a bargain, but come nightfall the city shows its true, brilliant colors.

The Asvelt Gym is found inside an old subway station which at a glance seems abandoned. The gym itself is the middle platform with two empty sets of tracks on each side.

The path from Pavelt to Amantune quickly turns into a dirt road when it crosses into the Vasto Badlands. Dust blows through the area frequently so travelers should be sure to bring protective wear.

Amantune Town
An oasis in the badlands, Amantune sits in the protective shade of a solitary rock formation, but is little more than a way station for people to rest and recover.

picture.php
Amantune Town

With little else to offer travelers besides a drink of water and a bed for the night, Amantune has had difficulty attracting and keeping residents. That changed when sightings of rare Pokemon, unseen in Amori before, were reported by travelers from the surrounding deserts. Locals believe it is just mirages and misguided hope, but they welcome the bright-eyed visitors nevertheless.

Route 05
picture.php

Upon leaving Amantune one finds oneself on the road to Charmoor. Shrubs and thistles begin to appear along the road. The occasional abandoned structure stands along the road, a testament to the harsh landscape.

Charmoor Town
A small town which hosts a creepy, derelict manor house. The air is grey and gloomy and a fog rolls through most of the time.

picture.php
Charmoor Town

Sitting between wild forests, brooding moors, and temperamental mountainsides, it is no wonder that Charmoor residents have chosen to spend most of their time indoors. Keeping warm by the fire is a local pastime, as is telling ghost stories. Spooky shapes and sounds in the night are likely an effect of these stories, but the manor house at the edge of town is known to be haunted and only the brave or foolish wander toward that frightful place. The rest are content to ply their trades, gossip among themselves, and bring a little light to the darkness.

Fairlith City
In the highlands a city older than any other was built ages ago, its old walls and temples still standing to this day.

picture.php
Fairlith City

A vast library and museum built into one of these stone temples serves as the city's main institution of education. Here, the past of the Amori region is researched and preserved. Old stone buildings are everywhere, divided by narrow cobblestone alleys and streets. People here walk and cycle around town rather than rely on modern transportation. Technology isn't shunned, but a strong appreciation of the past is evident everywhere in the well-preserved monuments and statues around the city.

The Fairlight Gym is located inside a mountain in a cavern excavated many years ago. A single low entryway is the only path in or out, but the touch of cold winds blowing from deeper in the cave suggest there are other entrances. The gym itself is a stone floor, polished smooth from years of use, underneath a ceiling of hanging stalactites.

This is amazing! Your type affinity magic really adds a unique touch to your pokemon region, and a logical mission for an "evil team" to pursue. Great work on the cities too. I'm going to subscribe to your region (:

Also I'm primary Dragon type! But as I mature I will learn more from the Grass outlook on life. This actually even sounds like me haha.

Wandemire Town
Wandemire sits amid a vast swamp, accessible only by raft or boat, and perhaps this isolation is what has allowed it to retain a certain charm not seen elsewhere in Amori.

Despite its remote location, the town is a frequent stop for travelers and performers. The old theater building and stage down by the river are often packed with locals and outsiders alike, all waiting to see what the most recent circus or sideshow has brought in for their entertainment. An old school, now abandoned, sits near the center of town.

An often gloomy, rainy city with tall glass and steel buildings left over from the height of an industrial boom, Gardurne manages to keep up appearances with dramatic gothic and art deco styled buildings.

Outwardly, the city is grey and impersonal. Inwardly, the city is still impersonal, but bright, full of art galleries, automats, cinemas, gambling dens, and other distraction for the citizens. The city train lines are old, but reliable and can take passengers from the skyscrapers downtown to the port on the outskirts.

The Gardurne Gym is located in the center of the city inside a large greenhouse. The structure is old, with many of the glass panels crusted with grime. The air is warm and humid and very still. The gym itself is a cleared tile floor in the middle of the gym surrounded by many exotic plant species.

Bridges circle and crisscross the city, over, under, and between the many towering apartments and shopping arcades. The highest of them rings the city, starting from ground level at the north end extending in a loop to the south end which flies high above the tops of buildings. Trains run constantly, none more than the Loop Line which brings tourists to the southern end of the loop which boasts the most spectacular view in all of Amori.
