So like, this other city Vissi came in from, is it ALSO unnamed? Is it somewhere decently in communication with our city? Would we see Vissi only in newspapers or would it not be uncommon to have people who have actually been to that city? I ask all this because it would influence how known Vissi would be over here.

Again, I'm giving the option for other characters to know Vissi prior to the story. That's also why I'm keeping things ambiguous on purpose, so I can't actually answer any of these questions.

Also, rofl, Vortiger doesn't like the zany kind of people, like unnamed Seel father. He'd probably slash him on sight. C:

Firstly sorry for delaying the RP.
Secondly I'm done with everything except the secret. I update the form with moves and backstory.
          Peace.

          MOVES

I like your take on Charge as a habit! Gives incentive to sneak in some narrative havoc; like say, he needs a fix and drains an unassuming crucial appliance in the Kitchen, maybe?

For Discharge, while your description and his ability to control how much electricity he releases is all well and good, just want to confirm: it's only with little variants that he's generally able direct the move towards a certain direction? I ask because what makes Discharge distinct from say, Spark or Thundershock, is its uncontrollable and spreading nature. I'm curious on the "line" that differentiates between controllable and uncontrollable, because if you intend to easily control this move most of the time, you might be better off choosing a more suitable move.

Omnious Wind makes me U N E A S Y looks good! Good touch on the "exhilaration" detail (a nice nod to the fact the actual move may increase all stats at once!) but what exactly do you mean by "augmenting" other moves? What does that entail? Maybe an example would help here?

No comments on your Special Move here! You limited yourself well and I absolutely adore the twist that it's "just amplifying the innate abilities of the device" as I said before.

          BACKSTORY

I think the biggest issue in this is simply with flow, the story could be much more clear and concise; the writing can be a bit clunky at times and there is a lot of room for revision. But I'm here to judge the story itself and search for discrepancies, so unless you'd like me to give you examples of what I mean here in the thread or in private, I'm not going to come off as a pretentious English teacher and have it be something you need to change in order to gain approval.

I will say that I enjoy the fact that your background has some justifiable mystery behind it. Sure, we get to know who B.T. is now and how he might function within Finer Things, but there's an element of gossip and theorizing to who he was before he died - it's a fun touch that fits into the theme of this RP. I'm mostly glad that this mystery did not detract from his personality now, as you demonstrated it well within your prompt.

          Anyway, here's Wonderwall:

          Spoiler:
          Quote:
Ghost Pokemon inhabiting the planet cannot be attributed purely to breeding

Neat worldbuilding here, and pretty damn close to how the core series also views it; or rather, justifies its discrepancies. Got what you needed done for your background (the reincarnation bit) without making it the rule for any Ghost-Types that appear within this RP. Good work.

          Quote:
The word soul is used due to lack of understanding of what a Ghost-type’s body is made of

It's made of spoopy noises and sckerry shadows

          also bones

          Quote:
This has been backed up by census statistics, showing that the number of Rotom born every year was close to the number of unnatural Electric-type deaths

It just struck me how psyducked up census records and collecting must be in this universe.

          "And your typing?"
"Ghost and Poison, but I prefer the terms Undead and Infectious."
"And how long have you been deceased?"
          "Five years."
          "How did you die?"
          "That's a bit personal."
          "It's just for records, ma'am."
"I burned horrifically in a house fire caused by my parents."
          "Ah."
          "Christmas dinner conversation is awkward."

Also, reincarnated ghost-types probably have astronomically high rates of PTSD.

          Quote:
As a Rotom cannot survive outside a device for too long, theorists believe that if an Electric-type meets with an accident at a large distance from a device, it will just dissipate

Hm, you took the idea of Rotom not being able to be its basic form for long. I wonder why that is?

          Quote:
a private organization with the sole aim of rehabilitating these reborn Pokemon back into society

What a cool organization! Hmm, I'd bet they'd have charities too and be the kind of thing bourgeois clientele would donate to; make them feel all benevolent. I like the concept of this being in the world, it gives me ideas.

          Quote:
composed of only Psychic-types, as they are the only ones that are able to detect the presence of Ghost-types

... what do you mean "only ones able to detect the presence?" Are you saying that normal 'mon just don't ... see ghost-types? Please elaborate.

          Quote:
In this state of panic he did what any cornered creature does instinctively; he hid. The light bulbs on the ground had evaded his attention, that is, till he was inside one.

This strikes me as exceptionally odd sentence structure: like, did he just fly towards a random direction, trying to hide, and accidentally shoot himself into the light bulb, or did he not notice the light bulbs until he needed a place to hide?

Also, you said in the prologue that unnatural electric-type deaths don't form Rotoms unless near devices (leading to the assumption that souls form into Rotom inside said devices), but he seems to be born outside of a device? This aspect confuses me.

          Quote:
the towering structure appeared to be desolate, save for a few puffs of smoke. More Dark-type Pokemon littered the barren ground surrounding the factory

Whatever this Bun T place is, sounds weird. I wonder what they're doing out there in the desolate woods, especially since you mentioned all of the people outside are Dark-Types. Reminds me that Greiger, in that supplement of Gabriel he did for Cornered, mentioned something of a Dark-Type discrimination that consequently lead to that type forming mafias. I wonder.

          Quote:
he remembered dying clearly but he still had no idea where and how it happened

Interesting how he remembers dying clearly but you never detail it in his background. I assume, since the rest of his story is shrouded in mystery, this was intentional on your part.

          Quote:

          Quote:
Lira greeted the Pokemon, who appeared to be a Musharna, explained the Rotom’s situation and bade farewell

For such a rude awakening and treatment prior, those dark-types at the factory seem to have heel-turned real quick on their nastiness to help the poor Rotom who suddenly appeared at ... whatever their operation was. Just letting you know that this sudden courteous behavior is ... odd, to me.

It might be justified if they knew what happened to the Rotom or who he was, but the details in your backstory make me infer otherwise.

          Quote:
Mal attributed it to the trauma from his death

Neat idea of him dissociating being a side-effect of his reincarnation! I hope you play well on these disconnected sides and their interaction with one another and the world.

          Quote:
Mal still recommended him to pursue a work license and he agreed with her

Just throwing a concept out here: it would probably make a lot of sense if B.T. analyzed new spaces for appliances and muk, it sounds like the kind of thing he'd take notice to. Maybe what he picks up on in particular could be breadcrumbs to who he was before?

"... and does he socialize much?"
"Yes, he has this friend, who believes he might be his dead boyfriend."

I like the justification of "independence" as to why he left Berry's store, but I don't see stakes for him wanting to keep his job at Finer Things. Like, he doesn't need money, as you said - anything you could buy with it he doesn't necessarily need to survive - and if he was Fired or made no cash tonight, there really wouldn't be any severe repercussions: he could always just go back to Berry. There isn't any threat or fear of him losing his job or what might happen if he does.

Yep, it looks like you've edited enough to get your SU Approved.

We've been discussing your secret and it looks pretty good, but I think there are a few more details left to iron out? Either way, I'll start getting the IC ready.

Given how Kiyo is starting this story, he needs every character present. That's what I expect. This delay is on the players.

If the people who submitted WIPs are no longer interested enough (haven't heard from them in some time, myself), someone should ask a buddy if they want to join in, or something.

A tomboy in a pair of itchy plaid tweed slacks, she frequently snaps her suspenders and proudly totes a press pass in the headband of her fedora. Nobody would say the Stunky knows the definition of subtlety or what an "inside voice" is, and her passion for scribbling down "the scoop" has deteriorated her penmanship and ability to tell when someone else is speaking. The only kept thing about her is her magnificent hair quaff; evocative of Marilyn.

Here's a question that I meant to ask quite a ways back but must have slipped my mind:

How well do we know our fellow player's characters? For example, Cadbury here has worked at Finer Things about a year, and the others are more recent hires, but I'm not sure HOW recent. Would he already have a week, two weeks, just a couple days, of experience working alongside them? What might he know about them? How much, or how little, would he be familiar with them? This is context I need to know for the purpose of writing my posts.

Speaking of writing my posts, should I use CSS similar to my SU, just cut down simply? Or maybe you had a format in mind for us to post inside?

That is completely up to the discretion of the players. I believe all of you mentioned somewhere in your SUs how long you've individually been working at Finer Things, and it's safe to assume that people with a month of employment together have shared shifts at least once.

Don't be afraid of taking the first step towards setting the scene of a relationship with another character!

Absolutely no preference from me. Use no CSS, the same CSS as me, make your own; anything goes.

B.T has worked there for almost a year as well. Given Bun's forced positive demeanor, I would assume that Cadbury would respect him as a co-worker to some extent. My rotom son would like Cadbury as well, just because he is competent but he might be annoyed by him trying to correct his mistakes. I'll try and get a post out by at most tomorrow. (no promises though lmao)

As I don't think my secret would not be super relevant to the plot at hand I'll do it after my first post. Also Kiyo basically knows almost everything about it, so if he wants to integrate something into the plot relating to it, he would be free to. But if you want me to do it first I shall. If any of you want to find way to make our characters interact, don't be shy and send me a message!

(Also I just got done with reading all the SUs and Glowy your prompt was sooo good)

I really like the mini-bios for all the NPCs, and the map you included with all their locations is quite helpful. Thank you Kiyo!

                                Thanks Ihsaan for the compliment!

If the fiery flash of a camera suddenly engulfs your vision, you can bet you're the next topic of Claudette, the Journalist's gossip column.

"Ah, a press pass and a rapid writing paw. A journalist, then. Am I right?" Cadbury asked with a point of his index claw.

Next, he spread his paws. "Welcome to the bistro. May I ask what brought you here? Namely, I'm curious what story you're looking to cover here at Finer Things." After tucking his paws away again, he threw his eyebrows up, smiling. "Is there some scoop afoot? Not to worry, I'm not with the media, I shan't tell anyone."

I made a post, QQ starts off in the bathroom as an attendant. Hoo, boy, lol. With a post comes format - and a drawing that's much better than what I slapped together on the ooc app:

Took me hours to to color it, but I'm satisfied!

                                      Oh, look!

I couldn't help but habitually Google my name for any new daily hits, and look at what I came across! A modest group! Ho, ho!

Surely this is something to more enjoyably whittle away the time after the sudden incident with the wife. The gift of life and whatnot.

I'll just leave this meager little thing here, yeah? Why not?

                                      BAILEY

                                      GENDER:

                                      APPEARANCE:
The green helmet-like protrusion so signature to his species is different on him. Instead of its evenly rounded edge, it leafs away like short, uneven bangs that halfway cover his eyes. His pupils and orange cornea are unsettlingly small, giving the impression that his stare is piercing, and his eyes are a bit sunken in. He wears a small purple robe with gold stars on it, but when it comes time to work, he will trade it in to don an oversized bowtie in the Finer Things' palette.

                                      MOVESET:

Confusion - A psychic ability that can either take the form of psychokinesis or a telepathic transmission that can cause confusion in a single sentient target. The heavier the object or the more strong-willed the being, the more difficult their respective psychokinetic or telepathic ability is to maintain.

Teleport - Encasing himself or a target no heavier than 13.5 kg (30 lbs) in psychokinetic energy, Bailey can warp himself to a place that is no more than 30.5 m (100 ft) away. Because of the dimensional nature of the warp, barriers between he and the point of destination are no obstruction.

Hypnosis - Staring into Bailey's piercing gaze as his horn emits a lulling psychic energy, the target relaxes, becoming somewhat more suggestible. With a much greater concentration and longer eye contact, the target may even be put into a restful sleep-like trance.

Skill Swap - With enhanced psychic cognition, observes and mentally deconstructs a target performing a task and then attempts to execute what was learned.

                                      BACKGROUND:
A young Ralts, he and his family left their hometown to pursue happiness and greater recognition in the city.

                                      I. Father

                                      Spoiler:
Bailey is the youngest of three. He and his older twin sisters were conceived by a female Gardevoir and a male Duosion. When he was still a newborn, he began to absorb stimuli and other information at a prodigious rate. His psychic power was realizing itself in its attunement to the emotions in the household and of polite company, later extending its influence over tangible things through kinesis. As he was learning through his constant interaction with things both seen and unseen in his environment, he also began to notice, and possibly even internalize these conflicting emotions that grew prevalent in the household.

Bailey's family lived in another quaint little town called Jubilee before this industrial city. His mother was an instructor of a dance academy, her forte in ballet and ballroom dance, though she taught lyrical, interpretive, and contemporary as well. Her young adolescent Kirlia daughters Kerry and Kiley shared the passion with her and were also a part of her ballet class. The two girls and one other coincidental Kirlia made up a small performing troupe of exceptional dancers under their maternal instructor. Their mother and the mostly familial troupe spent much training for routines to perform at large functions in town and competitions in some towns over. They would always return from the competitions with a first-place trophy, their reputation superb. While Bailey grew up without a particular interest in dance, his Duosion father certainly did not. The cell-like Pokemon often expressed disingenuous praise in indifference at first, and later a disinterest as it almost seemed like their victories were predictable. As his family's species were all synchronized in identifying true emotion, the ladies did not take it well before learning to disregard him altogether on the topic.

The Duosion had his own profession. He was an aide for a field researching firm on the biology, habitat, and behavior of the underpowered and undersized creatures in this world who lacked the Type-specific potentials of other Pokemon. He was enthralled in his work as an assistant, but because of his own two-brained nature, he often had trouble keeping a train of thought and spoke in roundabout phrases and specious rhetoric until he set himself up on a more logical thought path. It made communicating with him difficult as at times he would tangent into other topics or misrepresent an opinion of his, and getting a straight answer out of him was a gambit. When the Duosion was not out on the field, he was home in his study, trying to make sense of collected data to compile and report the next day.

The children saw the strain in their parent's relationship. Bailey was especially keen at his age, as he would often accompany his father in the study, sitting out of the way and looking over the samples and papers. When his father's own scatterbrain got the best of him, Bailey would offer suggestions--and at times even physically manipulate the arrangement of data when the Duosion excused himself for a break--in such a way that his father would unwittingly consider it his own revelation. Claiming these findings as his own was what patient Bailey intended for his father, though the Ralts began to develop a separate interest in these weak creatures and their observable information. It was clear to Bailey that his father reclused himself into the study to keep from his wife and daughters, whose successes and creative talents daunted him. It was clear at the dinner table when the girls decided to bring up philosophical inquiries and hypotheses, or social commentary on the current politics of the city, that their mother could keep up but their father couldn't, yet tried. When the parents thought the children were asleep in their rooms, their mother brought up the intimate topic of communication and counseling for their emotional distance. It was clear that their frightened father deflected questions in an effort to preserve his fragile self-esteem. He knew he was the one in his successful family who hardly made any accomplishments.

After a time, Bailey's sisters subtly tried to convince their mother to reconsider her relationship with their father, implying that perhaps they had lost their spark. At first their mother disregarded and even chided them on such a suggestion, saying it was adult matters that needed no coaxing on their part. Over a couple years, though, she did begin to realize that she started to adopt an aloofness towards her husband. Any attempt to show interest in the Duosion's work was buffeted with a truthful dismissal that she "wouldn't care to understand". Any attempt to address the trace feelings of hostility or shame she sensed in him, he would keep to himself, and in resentment to his stubbornness she would harbor a bit too. The charm she once found in his bit of bumbling raves left and began to disappoint her and at times exasperate her. She felt that once she had the twins, he must have felt overshadowed by them, but she also felt she was left to decide between fostering her children's quickly-realizing potential and cradling his self-image. The love was gone in the relationship, and eventually she divorced him.

                                      II. Mother

                                      Spoiler:
While Bailey had no hand in influencing decisions and was content in accepting outcomes, his sisters decided to move and shake. The twins realized their withdrawn mother's desire for a picturesque family, and considered their biological father unfit in living up to their mother's expectations and their personal standards of achievement. They devised a plan for his replacement, and though they asked their younger brother to help, he declined in favor of watching. Ignoring their brother, they found time after school and their mother's academy to scout for potential mates through shenanigans: interviewing authors of personal ads found on the backs of newspapers through the phone, putting in good words to single males during door-to-door academy fundraisers selling cookies together, eavesdropping on argumentative couples at cafes and more. Bailey in the meantime would go outside after finishing his chores and assignments, and catch instances of those strange, nearly entirely ignored little beings that would chirp in the trees or crawl in the grass. He would pluck them into his little palms or dominate them with his psychic power, and sneak them into his room to inspect them. Sometimes he would just stare as they behaved as they would in an enclosed environment, and other times he would subject their bodies to different stresses until he thought fit to free them--if their bodies could ever respond again.

After a few months of the twins' searching and intercepting letters from a more reflective and remorseful father to destroy, they came across what they considered a perfect candidate for their mother. In a convoluted scheme, they managed to convince her to a blind date with a Gallade who was doing business in town for a few weeks. This event did interest Bailey if this was to go the way his sisters excitedly prattled to him, and decided to play along to their scheme. The night of the date, Bailey's subtle Hypnosis--as encouraged by his sisters--gave their babysitter an early bedtime, and the three precocious children hunted down the small restaurant where the blind date was to be held. They slipped into service as a totem in one of their mother's long trench coats to conceal themselves, and a fedora pulled low over Bailey' eyes. As this lanky figure with a small head and dainty feet, they sat near the date table to eavesdrop.

The date was a success. Their mother easily took to Robert the Gallade. Robert was an actor in a theatre company to an industrialized Pokemon city that had dealings with their town. He mentioned that his company often received critical acclaim for their great performances, and he was often in starring roles. His small troupe from the company were in town, he said, and he invited her to watch a production or two as they were performing a drama for a couple weekends in town. The children beat a hasty retreat before the adults called for their check.

Bailey went with his family to see a few of these shows while Robert's troupe were still in town. He was admittedly awed by the transformation the Gallade took to the stage, quite literally as the costumed Blade Pokemon would glow a bright white and take on a strange new physical appearance as the character took to an alter ego. After the show, his family and Robert would talk excitedly about the performance, costume, and the strange phenomenon of Mega Form. It was clear that Robert was an artistic complement to the Gardevoir, as during the open dance practices she invited him to at her academy, he was enthralled with her own talent and form. After the two began to date regularly for the next couple months, it was time for Robert to depart with his troupe now that his tour was over. The town of Jubilee was their last stop and now the performers would return to the city. He proposed to the woman that she and her family go with him, offering to get her a choreographer position with the theatre company, settling a living arrangement, and granting her children a greater opportunity to pursue their crafts. The mother agreed. While the sisters danced and thanked them all, Bailey began to wonder if the city could provide him with any more knowledge and insight to the little creatures that share the land with Pokemon. He began to wonder what instruments and institutions could be available to him to study and dissect these things as well.

                                      III. City

                                      Spoiler:
The family left with the troupe and other passengers on a Pokemon-operated ferry by the water, sailing their way beside the coastline, turning into the mouth of a river, and docking a few days in at the bay ports of the industrial city. The next four months for Bailey were curious. The family went through customs and were provided IDs for their citizenship. After a few nights in a hotel and neighborhood tours from Robert when he was done with practice at his small apartment, their mother was able to afford a house in the nicer suburbs. At their housewarming (whose guests consisted of only Robert and a few of his friends), Robert proposed to the Gardevoir with a pearl and Gardevoirite necklace. Robert moved in from his apartment into their house as a permanent resident. Their mother indeed landed a choreographer position with the musical troupe of the company, through her own repertoire of awards and accolade and Robert's good word. The children were put into the school system, and while the girls also registered for an elective dance course run by an instructor they harshly accused of being subpar to their own mother, Bailey was sitting in a separate grade of much older adolescents who looked down on him.

Bailey's position was a strange one. His mother had advocated he be in a grade that reflected his current knowledge as opposed to his relative age, and the school's principal provided that clemency after Bailey excelled on a placement test. Because socially he still had a few mannerisms of a young child and psychologically he was a morphing complexity, Bailey was different from his new peers, and often ostracized and the target of jokes. The lingo of these young teen-like Pokemon were also beyond what he had grown accustomed to back in Jubilee, so he was a little black sheep among wolves. Bailey found respite in his own interest of biology, and made it a point to research what the class briefly touched upon as those inconsequential "prey", as well as the anatomy and mental capacities of different species of Pokemon, and other scientific journals newly authored by Pokemon or preserved from bygone beings.

Bailey found some items related to his interests that he'd like to purchase for himself, but their nature he understood could alarm his mother and her fiance, and while his sisters wouldn't much care with their own devious rapport, they had no money to spare. In a health clinic supplier's office, an old toy store that sells scavenged human items, and a curator's library, Bailey's desire to buy surgical instruments, a raw and unprotected Dr. Geiger's Chemistry Kit, and a few volumes of an human medical encyclopedia urged him to look for a job. He suggests to his mother that instead of grade school--where attendance isn't necessary--that she allow him to help earn for the household and start his own account savings. Putting up a convincing argument to his mother with a surprised Robert and the curious twins standing by, she asked him where he would like to work.

He mentioned Finer Things was hiring, the restaurant Robert had taken the family to a couple times before for celebratory dinners. Like every outing, Bailey had taken time to observe staff, operations, setting, and other details while the family was concerned with the atmosphere and themselves. Bailey figured he had picked up enough information that he could recall to leave a fine impression on the owners, and that the service job would reward him well nightly as a hold over until a more favorable job opportunity rose. When Robert brought up the concern of Bailey's voice, appearance, and actual age, Bailey's sisters at least jumped to his defence that he barely acted his age with his eloquence and intelligence, though his high-pitched voice and diminutive stature could work against him. Regardless, his mother encouraged her son to apply, as "anything can happen."

When he got word from Robert that he received a call from a "Carmine" asking for Bailey about the convenience of an interview time, Bailey returned the call, and the man on the other end opened with a comment about how peculiarly youthful Bailey's voice was. Bailey retorted, "Landlines take away years from my cords." The scheduled day, Bailey met with the restaurant's appropriate vetters, who appeared surprised and skeptical by this small Ralts whose voice was now clearly childlike. Bailey respectfully pleaded his case, asking that the interview continue despite his first impression as they may be surprised. Taking him up on that, Bailey answered their questions and performed their required tasks with a self-assured competence and a relative ease, though some terminology was admittedly lost to him, he made his contextual inferences to make up for a misunderstanding as best he could. Leaving a delightfully surprised impression on the lot, Bailey was eventually hired to Finer Things, and has since been working there for a month.

                                      PROMPT:

                                      Spoiler: The Errand
From the bleak, overcast sky, rain mercilessly beat everything below it, and blustery winds whetted their stinging lashes through the alleyways. Dragging what was once a pristine white train behind them, a lone Ralts scuttled through the sloughy gravel and occasionally tripping over a pothole indistinguishable from a shallow puddle. Bailey wore a bright yellow windbreaker, buttoned up to his chin with a horn-accommodating hood pulled over his brow. He looked straight ahead as he kept a little brown parcel to his chest, his body a buffer as the rain crashed against his back.

He remembered the Trumbeak's terse chirps in the back of his mind: Deliver this package to the residence here. This is from the Owner. I trust you only, do not lose it.

He thought, What important materials are in here? From the Owner themselves? What business prospect for the restaurant will this little tribute bring? As his small hand brushed against the ornate wax seal on the thick envelope, he thought for a moment: should the stamp ever break, had he the skill to seamlessly mend it?

Similar intrusive thoughts rolled about in his skull as he turned the corner into another gust of wind and alley, the cream-colored street sign that towered over him reading "Concorde St." On either side of him now were the chainlink-fenced backyards of row houses, small metal plates with four-digit numbers hanging off the steel top rails. Bailey kept his beady little eyes to his right, as all the even-numbered addresses ascended there. As he counted in his head, he finally came across it in the middle of the silent, empty street: 1402.

Unhooking the damp latch to the low gate and letting it swing out freely, the yellow-shrouded child walked through the yard, up the steps of the stoop, and stood at the door momentarily shielded from rain by the small canopy. Just as he lifted a hand to knock, he stopped short. Something was creeping into the back of his mind, a feeling of tension and dread felt as if its slender fingers were tracing the creases in his lobes. The horn on his head had caught the emotional signal that radiated from the other side of the door.

Just my luck that this may be a bad time, Bailey thought. He glanced out the side of his eye to see the window for 1402 Concorde St. had its blinds completely drawn. It's almost noon on a rainy day. Is this client as much of a hermit as the Owner?

Ignoring the manifesting doubt, he knocked anyway, needing to get the errand done and over with. After a minute of silence, he knocked again, and then pressed an ear to the door. Steeling himself through the initial chill of the wood, he heard some few faint voices before they silenced themselves as footsteps approached. Bailey took a step back as the door swung in, stopping just short of ajar as a chain door lock came into view and drew itself taut at the tug. From the little sliver between the door and the jamb, there stood a pudgy yellow Pokemon a couple heads taller than Bailey, squinting its eye as it balanced itself on a step stool.

There was a lapse of silence between the two, as Bailey expected at least a greet. He caved to initiative when the third second passed into social no man's land.

"Hello," he said, his voice extremely young and pitched. He lifted up the parcel in his hands so this Pokemon could see. "Are you Harold?"

At the mention of the name, the door shut in Bailey's face. He was somewhat taken aback, but when he heard the chain unlatching and the push of the stool against linoleum tile, the door swung fully open now to a Makuhita in an open floral-print bathrobe. Beyond him, Bailey could see, was a modest kitchen, whose paper-laiden table in the back corner was preoccupied with two other guests. Sitting in a chair and leering out from the edge of a darkly-lined eye was a Conkeldurr, dressed neatly in a specially-tailored three piece and tie, two heavy black suitcases at his feet. Floating beside him was a massive Dusknoir, a linen turban wrapped about the crown of his head and a glowing red eye peering ahead.

Answering Bailey's question, the Makuhita replied, "Yes." Harold asked Bailey who he was, but as soon as he did, Bailey watched as the tense-faced Guts Pokemon silently and quickly articulated a one-syllable word with his lips and tongue. Bailey was awash now with the familiar, intrusive feelings of animosity and trepidation, and though it makes itself clear to Bailey, he was not a part of the situation. He only had to dispatch a parcel.

As Bailey began to say he was delivering a package on behalf of his place of work, he didn't get halfway through his sentence when he heard the grind of a wooden chair scoot back on the floor and the glimpse of the Conkeldurr as he began to stand. Immediately, almost reflexively to the sound, the Makuhita thrust his arm out, gripping Bailey's delicate wrist in his swollen black fist, and heaved his shoulder up against the boy, knocking him out of the way. Bailey was sent flying out with a surprised cry, but soon his trajectory was yanked into a different direction, as Harold still held him by the arm and let the boy trail behind him as he thudded down the steps and out the gate.

The Ralts' needle-point pupils began to dilate as adrenaline began to pump into his system and his mind began to race. He kept the parcel clenched tight to his body as he was so powerfully lugged behind the Makuhita making a mad dash out into the street. Looking behind him, the child saw the determinedly vicious glare of the Conkeldurr, gaining ground as his muscles rippled beneath his suit and in each fist he kept his momentum with weighty suitcases. Bailey's eyes frantically glanced around the alley, and tapping into his psychokinesis, a pair of trashcans unexpectedly threw themselves into the pursuant's path. While the Conkeldurr was tripped up by the first, he slammed both of his suitcases down on the other can, completely crushing it with his awesome power, and using that leverage to propel himself into a backflip, onto his feet, and continue the chase in a fluid and unfazed motion through the rain.

Finding himself in a situation with Pokemon completely over his head, Bailey tried to have his astonished and racing mind concentrate long enough to evoke a Teleport out of sight altogether, but that was completely broken by a man's shout and what felt like a sudden gust of violent wind, sweeping him upward. As he looked up, he saw that a breathless Harold was being hoisted nearly seven feet into the air, and Bailey dangled behind him as the towering Dusknoir had them in his grasp. No time to even process the situation, the great maw on the pliable Ghost split itself open to a dimension of utter darkness, and Bailey watched as the pitch black utterly engulfed his sight.

There was a complete lack of light here. The grip on his arm vanished the second the space enclosed around him, but something else took its place, and its invisible hand was a constant pressure on his entire body. The chill of the rain was not comparable to the existential bite that seemed to disturb beyond his skin, and more his entire core. There was no sound, not even his own heavy breathing. He could not even sense what would have been his pounding heart, or his shuddering shoulders. Bailey had never experienced anything like this. He tried to call out, but to think of words put on such a sudden mental strain on him that he shut up, and felt his consciousness slipping away. This space was draining him. He began to merge with the nothingness, body and mind. An indiscernible amount of time passed, or rather, all time was lost. There soon was no memory here.

                                      Dues...

                                      Ingrate...

                                      Tongue clicks.

                                      A man's cry.

Scant, smothered sounds slowly slogged through the thick bog that was Bailey's waking mind as his sense returned to him. His skin began to tingle from pin pricks of warmth. His posture was hunched and his head hung low. Words began to sound nearer, recognizable. He quietly opened his eyes to see a more earthly darkness surrounded him, as he sat in a chair on the edge of a single light source. He saw his dried yellow raincoat hugging him tightly for the rope that tied around him. He lifted his head and saw beneath the sole dangling lightbulb, a massive, garishly pink monster whose sharp yellow eyes now hailed upon the boy's head.

"You're awake," was its guttural, gravelly voice. Bailey pressed his lips as he glanced over the intensely muscular physique of this strong-jawed, shark-like creature, its scythe-like arms held close to its spiny chest, over which a cravat with an interesting stone draped. The monster stood in front of a desk neatly organized with paper files. Just on the edge of the light was the familiar shape of a Conkeldurr. Bailey sensed another, massive presence nearby, but the darkness was its cover.

The boy took a deep breath as he tried to push out the thick feeling of anticipation his horn attuned to, and croaked, "If I may... what is going on?"

Once Bailey spoke, the shark creature's eyes widened, before snapping his head back to the Conkeldurr. "Is he a kid?!" His deep voice was marred with shock and a seething anger beneath. He turned around to snarl at the suited Pokemon, his finned tail whipping out over Bailey's head. "You goddamned wandought, you brought a bloody child!?"

Wearily, the Conkeldurr replied, "Got in the way. Accidental collateral."

With a shout and a lash of his tail on the ground beside Bailey, the pink two-legged dragon began to spit fierce remarks in a language the Ralts could not understand, comprising of hard tricks of throat and tongue, among other things. The henchman began to take on a hard look in defense as he tried in the same language to console or justify or excuse the case, but as this went on, Bailey took a glance over to his left. He saw Harold sitting in the only other chair, his yellow face tinged with pink and his head slacked back, shivering in a cold sweat but not responding to the events in front of him. Several feet in the air behind him was the soft glow of a partially-masked red orb, the same eye of the Dusknoir. Bailey looked back to the desk, remembering now that this all started with a parcel. It sat there amongst the papers, its red wax seal still untouched.

A haunting, bellowing voice spoke up behind him, surely coming from the Dusknoir, speaking the same foreign language to the ranting monster. At the chilling tone, the shark shut up to listen quietly. In the ensuing silence when the last few notes were left in the air to hang, all Bailey could hear were the very faint sounds of clanging, music, and shouting attempting to rise up from the floor beneath. It was that small moment of respite that Bailey needed to start collecting his thought and will, as the looming draconic beast lowered a vacant stare over the child.

The creature said something in a grave voice, and immediately the Conkeldurr beside him began to move, taking his time, his eyes intent on Bailey. The boy merely locked eyes as the henchman drew nearer, but just as the goon took a step past the desk, the zooting Pokemon stumbled forward and collapsed to his knees. The walking shark whipped his head back to his fallen crony, barking something, but before he finished whatever foreign word, it became evident on his face that he recognized the empty look in the other's eyes.

When the silent blast of stockpiled psychic energy Bailey translated into Hypnosis was successful, he didn't even give himself time to register the vicious shout and the glinting pink edge that instantly rose against him. Bailey acted in a quick succession of movement, not in calculated anticipation but in an instinctive action of flight. As soon as his busy mind had understood the target was put in a trance, he immediately mustered up a Teleport, barely escaping the tearing slash that effortlessly glided through his now unoccupied ropes. In the split second when the spatially-distorted Ralts physically emerged from the Teleport, he found himself staring yet again at the desk in the corner of his eye, though his feet began to sink into something soft. Just as quickly he vanished, just as narrowly dodging the second swing of the raging monster--this time the blade connected with the ropes and a bit of the doughy flesh of the wheezing Harold. Free of the binds, the unresponsive and feverish-looking Makuhita simply fell out of his chair with a heavy thud on the floor, sprawled.

Bailey emerged again, now in the destination he desired. With the parcel in his sights, he quickly picked it up. With all the intention to Teleport himself to some imagined point out of the room and find his way back to the restaurant with this classified package, Bailey tried to scrounge up a second of concentration to do so.

He was not given that second. Instead, it was taken from him. He suddenly found all the wind bashed out of him as a blunt force swept him from one side and almost simultaneously stopped his hurtling body as an immovable force on another. Slumping to the ground, Bailey croaked out in pain as his head began to ring and his body seized up in agony from the attack. His eyes were wide as he stared at the pink behemoth before him, stacks of paper wafting down around the creature as his tail was quick to shake them in the wake of his clean sweep of Bailey.

The small Ralts could only watch as the dragon began to approach him now, black acrid smoke breathing out between his fangs as the titanic Ghost materialized behind him. Bailey glanced around, hoping to see something of use out of his surroundings, but in the darkness his blurring vision helped him none. All he could do was will his mind to prop himself up, and as he enveloped himself in the kinesis power of Confusion to shakily lean his sore body against the wall, he finally saw the glossy papers that fell out of his lap.

The envelope of the parcel had struck the wall in such a way that the wax seal split clean and the recoil of force flung out all its contents. Scattered before him were small photographs of instant film. They were photos of red sunsets and empty beaches, but one of them caught his wavering eye: a picture of Harold in tourist shirt with a lei-laiden Makuhita beside him.

Their unmarred faces are soon slashed by the clawed toe of the neckerchief'd dragon. Bailey, lifting his unsteady gaze to the beast, sees in his dying vision that the monster's critical eye is scanning over the photos, using his toe to sift through the tropical landscapes, kicking them away, carelessly piercing the film. Behind him appears the haunt, tucked under his thick arm is the unresponsive Conkeldurr, and hanging by the wrist from his massive hand is a softly moaning Harold.

"Worthless," growled the land shark, his words laced with smog. He lifts his eyes from the summer photos and exchanged glances at the Dusknoir, before shifting his attention to the slumping Ralts. "Unnecessary," he spat. Bailey's fragile concentration wavers as he falls back to the ground, in the same state he arrived in that spot, his mind filling with the inexorable amount of animosity emanating from the creatures before him. It, combined with his physical pain, has him slipping away again.

"Bring in Roswell," spoke a voice, as Bailey's eyes now fell shut. "Wipe the kid. We'll deal with th-is … -iss-yellow… tallow ke-tch... la-... ter… -er..."

Words and sounds began to stretch and distort in the little time it took Bailey to black out.

At some point, the colors red, yellow, and green could be recalled, a softly glowing memory quickly forgotten.

On a bench swing nestled away in the greenery beside Finer Things, a Ralts in a yellow raincoat sleeps unperturbed amidst the beautiful, native array of the garden. As the sun sets, the fresh ink on a note that lays open in his hand glistens. It reads in shaky strokes:

Thank you for running the errand.
I've missed the beach, and I've missed Mai.

                                      -Harold

The last section of your backstory gave me a smile. I'm open to the idea of a precocious child working here, especially given how well you've explained that away.

Wait, are you introducing mundane animals into Kiyo's pseudo-50's Pokemon world?

...Oh wait, I just remembered The "Food Chain" section of the OP. I thought for a while that that hadn't made it into the final cut (staying behind in the Workshop), but I was mistaken, it was just hidden in a spoiler collapse table.

Well, this is a clever use of that detail of the universe. G'job.

Oh yes, I should ask how long you estimate Bailey has been employed here, in comparison with the year-longs like Cadbury and Bun T, and the new workers like Daiquiri (a week).

Which reminds me, I don't think Ech provided that detail about Vissi yet. May I ask?
