Introduction




When the moon shines the brightest, and the night is at its darkest, the beasts from the void
emerge to reap the only thing their will desires – That is, in an essence, the Demonic Hour.

- Unknown

The Demonic Hour is the name given to the timespan in which demons descend and appear into the world, wreaking their havoc on those unfortunate enough to cross their paths. Despite being called the Demonic 'Hour', this timespan is actually comprised of 3 hours, starting at midnight. Deemed as being the darkest hours of the night, it is believed that is why Demonic Hour exists at that particular time. Roaming the mountains, countryside, and even the streets, these demons have been known to make habitat in nearly every nook and cranny. Even within city limits, it is dangerous to go out at night in fear that one may end up with a bloody fate. What causes this phenomenon is not known, however, it has been recorded in history for as long as man has existed.


The World Itself





The world is a nasty, unforgiving place. Other than the obvious demons, life in itself can prove to be a difficult dilemma. Work can be hard to find at times, family issues can arise, and good friends can also be hard to come by in a world where its every man for himself.


| Erenfell |

An isle located in a body of water known as the Seilish Ocean, the climate here is generally cloudy or rainy for the most part. Covered in lush green plains and mountainous forests, this isle is a prime spot for living for those who enjoy the colder seasons. For the most part, the isle is unexplored, only known to have two major cities that have been built here in the past, one of which is known as Ivesburg and the other known as Folton. What lies beyond Erenfall across the Seilish Ocean is not yet known, as the waters are uncharted. However, there are supposedly a few books that mention and speculate what other lands are out there.


| Ivesburg |

Life in the city of Ivesburg isn't all that bad. Despite the obvious bad apples, the people here are generally nice, and there's plenty of jobs for the taking, granted you are willing to go out of your comfort zone. Mostly a lawful place, the mayor of Ivesburg, Donol, has implemented a curfew to avoid any unwanted casualties that may occur during the night. Although demons are much more scarce in the city due to the stonewalls that surround the city, Donol prides himself in making sure every citizen is safe. On a similar note, Ivesburg has also recently begun their 'Witch Hunting Trials', in an effort to crackdown and catch those in the act of practicing witchcraft, also known as magic. Affiliated with evil intentions, those who are caught are subjected to extremely one-sided trials, where their fate is usually determined by a variety of execution methods. Being a witch, or practicing witchcraft is often regarded as one of the highest forms of crime, and like most big offenses, does not end well for the accused. Public hangings, burning victims alive, drowning, etc are all forms of punishment the city uses to ensure the crime rate stays low. It's safe to say, as long as you do your part and not break any major rules, you will be fine.


| Demons |

Demons are the monsters of this world. Their reason for existence is unknown, and it is known that they will eat anything comprised of meat. They do however, kill any sort of living being they come across, whether it be animals or humans. Unlike other living organisms, demons are not known to reproduce in the same fashion, however, it is a generally known fact that they somehow 'enter our world' during the midnight hours, also known as the 'Demonic Hour' according to some predated documents. Nobody has actually seen a demon spawn, but some people have recorded seeing them suddenly in places that were free of them just minutes or seconds prior. The chances of one spawning in your own home however, are low. Due to the Demonic Hour, the city of Ivesburg has a curfew that forces all citizens to stay in their homes until the Demonic Hour has ended, as well as for an additional 3 hours for the city's forces to ensure no demons spawned within the city. The worry for demons entering the city during the day is relatively low, as most city guards are on patrol, plus the city walls make it hard for many demons to enter. As such, the only way demons often enter the city is through the Demonic Hour/spawning, or if the demon is airborne and happens by. It should also be noted that demons do not actively look for things to kill, but rather will only engage if the opportunity presents itself (e.g – swarms of demons would not be wandering around looking for humans).




Your Character + Setting


The season of spring and bloom has arrived on the isle of Erenfell, which means more pleasant days that accompany an isle which sees rain more than anything else throughout the year. This is also the time for the annual Festival. A city-wide community event that allows the townsfolk to get together and have fun in a myriad of games, activities, and food. This also proves to be a good time for farmers, which in turn gives the entire city a steady supply of food. Your character is a citizen of Ivesburg. Hopefully a functioning member of society, you have been living in Ivesburg your entire life having been born here. What you do in your spare time is completely up to you. Maybe work, retired, homemaker, or possibly doing nothing at all, there are a variety of options to choose from. The city can be summed up through the description of districts, which are as follows:


| The Bunberry District |

The northern end of the city where the upper-class and wealthy live. They have their own shops here, and generally speaking, the folks here like to throw events for other wealthy citizens. Although anyone is welcome to this area, it is uncommon for lower-class citizens to hang about here. Mayor Donol's house is also located here.


| The Hive District |

This is the name given to the entire central city area, which is the bustle of a lot of activity. Markets, blacksmith, shops, kids playing about, and the main school for children also reside in this area. Although generally this district is for the middle-class, it is not uncommon for rich folk, or even the poorer ones to be wandering about. There is also a clock tower located here, for the town to use and keep and track of time as well as the local church.


| The Willows |

Here is where the poor usually reside. Hiding in run-down buildings, or streets, this is the so-called 'scar' of the city where people go to do shady business, or if they are at the very end of their rope. Only no-gooders dwell here. The Willows is also bustling with drug activity, with the distribution of a powder like substance known as Salva that is circulating around the city.


| The Outfields |

Although located outside normal city limits, it is still technically considered to be a part of Ivesburg. The outfields consist of farmlands, mills, and the mines. Many labor jobs are located here, and people often travel here in the morning for work and venture back to the city when their shift is done. Should also be noted that there are poles out here that publicly display the victims that have been hung, to serve as reminder. Most of these labor jobs are located outside city walls, however, there is often an abundance of guards positioned out here, should the rare demon(s) wander by.


| The Outskirts |

Totally away from the city and even the outfields, what lies beyond Ivesburg is the rest of Erenfell Isle. Grassy plains, forests and mountains are the general terrain coupled with a lot of rain throughout the year. Very few people venture outside of the city and explore the isle, so not much else is known except that there is indeed another city located somewhere else on the isle.

    [*] No God-modding/bunnying without permission, etc. NOTE: This RP is NOT about fighting and combat, and although there will obviously still be a lot of it, do not expect this roleplay to be centered around it. If anything, it is more about the interactions of characters and the story.
    [*] My word is law. If I say something is off limits, then don't argue.
    [*]So, I guess this RP will rated M/R. Violence, language etc. And I should also probably throw in a trigger warning just in case I don't get into any trouble if certain situations arise in the RP.
    [*]If I had to guess some sort of real-world time period the RP takes place in, I would say its stuck somewhere in the 17th, in a fictional world of course. What this means is that there will be guns in this roleplay (like a flintlock muskets/pistols/rifles). With that said, don't be surprised to see more traditional fantasy elements thrown in at times.
    [*]Don't do something that you think would go against the lore, or become lore-breaking. Don't worry about this too much, even if it sounds confusing at first. If something like this did come up, I would say something immediately (E.g – Your character knows things that they shouldn't know).
    [*]Your character cannot be a witch or practice witchcraft. Werewolves and vampires also exist, however, your character cannot be one, nor become one.
    [*]The RP pretty much takes place in Ivesburg for the most part, which means most likely there will be no travelling of the sort (this could change though).
    [*] Don't leave the RP randomly. Tell me if you plan on leaving, so I can figure something out.
    [*] Most of all, please give me suggestions to make the RP better. It really does help, and I can take critique.

While even though he is young, Ezra is still a very small boy for his age--a trait that comes in handy when it comes stealing things or hiding from the law. /placeholder.

Character Traits
Street Smart- Having lived extremely poor and on the streets for most of his life, Ezra has learned the cold hard truth of how the underbelly of the city works. He knows how to hustle, steal, or otherwise charm his way through his rough life.
Withdrawn- Despite his charismatic and charming exterior, Ezra is actually pretty emotionally withdrawn. His attitude that most people see is simply a facade, a way of protecting and providing for himself. When it comes right down to it, there isn't a soul alive he would consider his friend or someone he could trust. If there is one thing the world has taught him it's that everyone is always out for themselves and you're better off being that way, too. Any concern he shows for someone is merely a front to make them vulnerable.
Headstrong- Despite how intelligent he is when it comes to cons and surviving the street, Ezra is actually pretty strong headed and liable to rush into situations--it is only his cleverness that allows him to escape these by the skin of his teeth. Far too many times have his schemes gone up in smoke only for him to vanish when things gone awry. Even if something isn't foolproof, he will often take it up regardless, his arrogance leading him to believe that he won't fail.
Selfish- As much a symptom of his rough upbringing as his own personal nature, Ezra is a boy that only looks out for himself. In his world, kindness will only get you killed or behind in life. But that's only part of his selfish tendencies, like many people he loves the finer things in life and has a bit of an obsession with having material objects. "Whoever dies with the most toys win" is essentially the motto that he lives by.
