Adding some more sample art updates.
Spoiler:

Since the BG artist didn't provide night versions, I have to manually go through each one and filter them on my own, which can end up taking a fair amount of time.
Spoiler:

As for other updates, the opening cutscene (transition from prologue) is about 50% done and only some remaining art assets and their implementation are holdbacks. So here's what a few seconds of it looks like:
dyBnmV9.gif

Will try to squeeze in around 5-7 characters per generation (gif shows Gen. I characters). Background music makes it hell of a lot better, but I won't be showing that just yet. It's implemented on my end, though.

Lastly, majority of prologue BG updates are done, still waiting on a few more. Some dialogue lines and their respective branches have been adjusted, but that's an ongoing process.
The opening looks really good can't wait until you release this visual novel.

This game has brought a singular, powerful tear to my eye.

Keep of the good work, you amazing person you.

Oh, geez, thanks! I hope this project can live up to the expectations.

I'll be traveling for the next four days, so there won't be any updates on my end during that time. The artists will still be continuing the work.

The title (main) menu has finally been updated and completed! Ugh. Took a while.
Spoiler:

I also picked out at least one ending song to use for the game. The first is a Japanese version of KISEKI (XY ending song). You can listen to it here:

I decided to go with this piece first because it's representative of the years you spend as the protagonist in this school, forging relationships with other characters.

Back from my trip.

Main Gen. V characters are complete (Hilbert, Hilda and Bianca are new)! Can't wait to implement their intro scenarios in the game.
Spoiler:

Some more backgrounds have been completed and will replace existing ones in the prologue.

So far 24 characters have been completed. It's getting to the point where it's exciting to imagine, "What will happen if you decide to put Sabrina and Bianca in the same room? What will they talk about?" or "What would happen if Blue and Cheren were roommates?" "What about Hilbert and Blue? What would they talk about?" Or how about, "What if Brawly has a thing for Roxanne, but Blue interrupts and sends the wrong message?" "What if the tomboyish Misty had to escort a fashion-loving Serena to the local mall?"

*cracks knuckles and gets back to work*

Unova characters look good and are really making me hard on who I want to pair Red with in my First run.

This looks amazing! I love the art and the general feel. I've played a few Visual novels in the last few years and honestly, this looks amazing. I honestly can't wait to see the demo and also more art. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the support!

The writing is going strong now while art slowed down just a little bit (my brother, the character artist, is currently amidst final semester projects). I plan on showcasing the Gen. II characters soon. Currently Silver's the only one done.

Script just grazed 20,000 words and we're only getting started :P

Gah, I guess I'll share them now since they're done.

Silver and Kris. Ethan's not done yet. He's somewhere in limbo.

So it's Pokemon Persona 3/4 style? SOCIAL LINKS SOCIAL LINKS SOCIAL LINKS! /shot/ Joking aside, I'm super hyped for this! I hate to say it but I'm a sucker for some guy x guy romance xP ( and I always wanted to a game where I can date Steven Stone regardless of gender... don't judge me! D': ) But Bromance is cool too ^^ I'm in love with Otome games but rarely are any good. While this isn't an otome game I do like the whole Persona style 'slice of life' concept to it! I'll be eagerly watching with baited breath! I just hope the project doesn't become too ambitious and taxing for you in which you'd drop it... :c It happens to many of a fan game, sadly... Anyways, good luck! I'll be rooting for you! :'D

It's a lot of work, but it's fun work, so I fully intend to put in maximum effort.

There are a lot of characters, though, so one of the toughest things to do is to give them unique characterizations. That's still a WIP. Not every character/NPC from the games will show up, unfortunately, as I mentioned in the FAQ:
And lastly, not every character in the games will be included. Unfortunately it'll get to the point where some just become pointless filler and I don't want to treat them that way. Better off they just don't show up on screen than show up and be waste of space. Out of the current characters being worked on, some already are borderline filler/fan material and I have to pick and choose who to use. If I get to the point where there's bandwidth (mostly up to the artists involved) to shove in more characters, then it'll be considered.

On that note, I do plan on giving Steven some kind of role, but not a huge one.

LITERALLY all of my yes! Seriously, I had considered doing a visual novel based in the Pokemon world, but I happened to lack the drawing and coding capabilities. It's fantastic to see this idea finally realized in some form!

Definitely pumped to play through the entire game to complete it!

Wow! Drawings are so good! ^^
Congrats! ^^

Thanks! I'll let the artist know about the compliments.

Speaking of which, new character art!

It's mind-boggling how a simple outfit change can so drastically change a character. Just look at this rendition of Gardenia!

Oh, and Falkner's done, too :P

I feel like making him a derpy support character. Someone who always seems to have deep thoughts or something philosophical to say. Someone who really ponders the important things... but never seems to be taken seriously.

I think we all know someone like that.

Quick note: demo/preview could be ready anytime, but I'd like to squeeze some more art assets into it before releasing.

So while I can release it now, I might push it until the first week or so of December instead and get rid of all existing placeholders. Because after this prologue section is done, the rest will be mostly writing updates.

After hanging in limbo for quite a while, Ethan's character art is done.
Spoiler:

With Thanksgiving coming up here, it's more likely the prologue demo will be released sometime the first week of December.

It's pretty rough scheduling; I have a business trip during that week as well so I won't have as much spare time as I'd like.

Anyway, again, everything is pretty much ready for testing. Just waiting on a few more art assets to include and remove existing placeholders.

I'm going to be completely truthful here. I'm really not a big fan of this idea. I've seen quite a few Pokemon High School/Academy stories before, though as fanfictions rather than a game (I'm giving you an A for originality on that one), and most of them haven't turned out that great. They like they're written by teenagers who are venting about their lives, or by people who want to be popular, so they write a mushy high school romance story and slap Pokemon characters into it to draw in viewers.

Now, I don't want you to get the wrong idea about what I'm saying. I'm not saying that this is a bad idea, nor that the game itself will be bad. I'm just saying that I've seen a lot of similar things, and none of them have proved to be of much worth thus far. However, it appears that you've put a ton of time and effort into this game, so who knows? Maybe this will get it right, or at the very least, it'll be a lot better than the others I've seen.

Regardless, I wish you luck on this project.

Hopefully that won't end up being the case here! I'm actually quite far removed from my teenage years (making me one of the oldest members here, at least from a glance), so hopefully that'll bring something else to the table.

My kid brother (also not a teen), who's working on the character designs, actually recently volunteered to help with dialogue writing. Since he's studied creative writing, that's another brain to throw into the mix :)

But anyway, to go a little more in-depth (or to simplify things, if that's how you see it), the story spans three years and is molded around transplanted characters in an alternate universe (kids don't go on unsupervised journeys). So the characters are the same—mostly, if the source material provides for it—they're just in a different "what-if" environment.

I'm just saying that I've seen a lot of similar things, and none of them have proved to be of much worth thus far.
Can you PM me specific examples (prevent publicly naming and shaming)? I'll be honest, I don't read fanfics (more of a personal time constraint than anything) so I actually don't know what's out there. I would love to know what you consider poor stories based around the Pokemon universe. Likewise, if you can show me excellent examples, I'd love to check those out, too. Edit: I welcome anyone to do this for me. Research!

Thanks for chiming in, though! This story/game is not planned to be simple, straightforward, nor "mushy" by far.
