s p i r i t

Sara Campe // Aged 15 // Female // Villain // Spirit

Appearance:
-

Personality:
-

Power(s):
Can make her consciousness leave her body, float outside the body for a short amount of time, and control another inorganic object. Cannot possess animals or humans at all, but can to some extent make plants move (?). While haunting something, her own body goes into paralysis. In this way, she can "see through walls" by leaving her body to scout. Has nightmares about what would happen if her body was destroyed while she was not in it.

History and trigger event:
Born and raised in Fallcliff's less than graceful parts, Sara learned to have some tough skin and learn some street smarts. The questionable company she keeps doesn't make her hard working father happy, but it helps filling her life with meaning. She and her friends aren't the worst of the worst in the city, not by far; they go to school (and don't skip class too often) but in their free time they've been running errands for people who claim to be connected to criminal capes. Friends is a bit of a strong word to use, really. More of a bunch of delinquents in a school who tries to be a bit too proper for them to fit in, getting bunched together because they have things in common and can't stand anybody else.

Triggered only about a month ago, due to being locked inside a closet by some upset target in a stalking mission gone wrong. Her spirit broke out, and in a rage powered by self-preservation she possessed a knife and jumped into the man's chest. It took him about as much time to die as it took for Sara to calm down and figure out how to move from the knife, lodged inside another person's body, to the lock of the door and make it unlock itself.

So far, she has practiced a little bit but hasn't revealed her power to anybody. She has secretly crafted her own "superhero" suit though, consisting of a black, long leg bodysuit, black facepaint, a big red and white beanie, and some feathers bound into her hair. She wishes she had the funds and resources to make something more elaborate, as she wants to call herself "Spirit" to honor her native American ancestors. She's 100% sure her father would call that idea outrageous and misplaced.

Safiya Nejem
aka Florissant

Alignment:
Hero

Age:
21

Sex:
Female

Appearance:
Tall for a Tunisian but otherwise standing at a fairly average height of 5' 5", her figure is lithe and well maintained figure with slightly sun kissed olive skin typical of Arabs. Her eyes are a dark brown and her hair is naturally dark brown but is usually dyed red. In her street wear, Safiya dresses lightly and with a very casual style, with tank tops, sandals, khaki shorts and shades in the warmer months. Colder months usually has her don a field jacket, boots and jeans.

Unlike her loose fitting and casual clothing, Safiya's costume as Florissant is skin tight and is shows more of her figure. The costume is a full body suit that is colored a dark green and black with vines around her waist and a moss ornamentation on the chest of the suit. There is also an accompanying mask to help conceal her identity, a bronze carnival style mask decorated with leaf designs.

Personality:
Outside of her duties of a hero, Safiya is very much a lover not a fighter. An outgoing, energetic young woman, Safiya is what you would consider a social butterfly in Fallcliff. Constantly hitting up peers for tea, dinner, movies or wherever she can be around people. As a very affectionate individual, she is very expressive of most of her feelings. There you can find something of a mischievous streak within her demeanor, being something of a lover for the adventurous and "rebellious", further fueled by being restricted and formerly kept at close distance with her well-meaning but very conservative and religious parents. Because of said parents, what is considered rebellious is fairly skewed and is not so much an active attitude of disobedience to authority as it is wishing to express herself. She chafes immensely under being subjected what she sees as dampers of her enjoyment of being herself, which just so happen to coincide with her parent's religious views. In addition, Safiya has an adept silver tongue and a sharp eye for reading people, an old trait she learned by pushing her family's wares at the local souk.

Of all the things that make Safiya uneasy, it had to be ironically the one thing she should be great at as a affectionate, bubbly and outgoing person: romance. To the extent she was able, Safiya tried to date a few guys here and there in Fallcliff, but felt unable to muster any feelings of attraction, with her "dates" feeling nothing more than a get together with a friend. As per the patriarchal rules of Tunisian society, Safiya hanged around far more female friends. Strangely to her, she seemed to have the deeper feelings with other women, something she would deny vehemently if pressed. In fact, she vehemently denies the feelings to even herself, making excuse after excuse to somehow dismiss them. These feelings never just disappear, however, and they are manifested with seemingly uncharacteristic bouts of self-loathing and jealousy in romantic endeavors of others.

On the job, despite a penchant for the grandiose and flashy when it comes to the PR work she does, Safiya has a major sense of duty to her job. Her teammates lives are heavily valued, as is the Protocol (even if at times she chafes under certain restrictions), the tenants of ethics that PRT stands for and the teamwork that goes into the operations. She's a natural candidate for the job with a natural disdain for cape villains, stemming from her experiences with capes she knew to be villain in all but name.

Power
Plant Mutation
A Master power, Safiya has domain over any sort of life that falls under the classification of plant, be it flowers, shrubs, trees, carnivorous plants or whatever else you could consider a plant. If it's in the Plantae kingdom, she can do something with it. Rather than merely will the plants into optimal photosynthesis, Safiya can mutate the plants into a far more effective arsenal, with giant vines to use for combat, monstrous venus fly traps run amok, shields made out of bark as hard as steel or cacti with hardened spines. The plants that are summoned can be imbued with characteristics of other non sentient animals, making plants such as the venus fly traps behave beastly rather than a sedimentary bug catcher.

History and Trigger Event:
Born to a merchant father and housewife in Tunis, Tunisia with an older brother, Safiya's life was busy and always filled with activity. Always kept close to their family by necessity for extra hands for the trade of souk merchant and the family oriented culture of the Muslim world, Safiya developed a natural, very affectionate relationship with her beloved brother Farouk and with her parents. From a very early age, through both the loving comfort of familial love and the more stern proclamations of family being at the core unit in Islam (which the family followed devoutly), Safiya lived life in a very family centric manner. This was no different when her parents had another child, Safiya's brother Yusuf when Safiya was four.

When Safiya became old enough to attend school, she attended the same schools as her older brother and was an average student with neither disdain nor passion for academics. She did, however, take a liking to learn French and English. She found the latter infuriatingly difficult, however. During her years of schooling, Safiya began to grow into the cheery person she ended up being, making her popular at school from primary school up to early secondary school. Throughout her childhood, she was also exposed to the communities of her local mosque and the merchants at the souk. Under the influences of these various factors, Safiya began to get a good taste of what life was like: fun, hectic, energizing with a firm hand to reel things in at times. Even if she was a little bit of a rambunctious child, she was always manageable and was simply chalked up to her personality and kids being kids. All was well and relatively normal, even with the contradictory authoritarian regime holding absolute power with the help of capes and the attempted maintenance of a relatively modernized society.

Then, the teenage years struck. Safiya wanted more independence, and she started to channel her slight rambunction into full on rebellion. She hung out with friends more than family, stopped wearing a hijab, melodramatically complaint of waking up early to go to worship services and even began associating with boys. Normal teenage stuff. With her older brother, who was also going through a lot of the same motions, there was more of a tut tut, slap on the wrist responses to his behavior. For Safiya, it was more severe. Lecture upon lecture about how improper it was to be running around and tarnishing their name, blah blah blah, something about how women shouldn't be out doing the blasphemous things she does should remain docile and submissive to men, all while remaining at arm's length with other men. And so Safiya continued to rebel, adopting it more and more in her lifestyle. It got to a point of very heated arguments, extreme punishments and anguishment for all. The more Safiya rebelled, the more puritanical her parents seemed to get and they started to have strained relations.

Worse problems arose, however, with the downturn in the local economy and increasing brutality of the government. The populace got restless because of the failing economy under the president, and the government retaliated disproportionately. Capes, as supplements to the "law and order", helped with the crackdowns. This really peeved the Nejems, but were determined to weather the storm. However, after a grueling six months more of harassment, crime and disarray, the Nejems could take no more and fled to the United States in the city of Fallcliff. It was a stressful time for all, being thousands of miles from where they called home and being more or less forcefully uprooted. Safiya, most of all suffered standing on thin ice with her parents. Being away from home and coping with her increasing isolation of the family, the final straw seemed to be laid and she triggered after a screaming match with her parents about needing space to grieve. It wasn't very apparent at first that she triggered, but when she was staring at a flower pot in their cramped apartment in the Divided District, Safiya found that she was able to grow into into a far bigger flower, simply through will. It turned out that she was a parahuman, a cape. Unfortunately, this was no good for her family's relation, as capes were reminiscent of trouble in Tunisia. And to find that her daughter was one mortified her family. However, after catching wind of the Wards program, Safiya could not resist and became a Wards hero at age 16 against her parents' wishes. It certainly helped she can escape more from them, something the parents reluctantly accepted as they couldn't deny she was doing good in the world.

After graduating to Protectorate hero, Safiya moved out of her parents' rundown apartment complex to a large historical house in the Dutch-Indonesian District with her new PRT pay. While not as contentious and hostile as before, distance and time seems to be only doing a disservice to their relations despite some efforts to reconcile. With Saifya living independently and letting things cool down, and running a successful tea shop, Saifya has found happiness in her life.

In addition, Safiya has an adept silver tongue and a sharp eye for reading people, an old trait she learned by pushing her family's wares at the local souk. Basically, all of the expectations of being a docile housewife subservient to a man and getting less privileges and rights, all while being constantly judged by Allah immensely, does not jive well with her.

Of all the things that make Safiya uneasy, it had to be ironically the one thing she should be great at as a affectionate, bubbly and outgoing person: romance. Lecture upon lecture about how improper it was to be running around and tarnishing their name, blah blah blah, something about how women shouldn't be out doing the blasphemous things she does should remain docile and submissive to men, all while remaining at arm's length with other men. Of course, that sort of talk further chafed Safiya, despite not actually possessing any romantic attractions (which Safiya found strange) simply for running her life to what Safiya saw as arbitrary rules. And so Safiya continued to rebel, adopting it more and more in her lifestyle and personality. It of course got to a point where they began punishing her, grounding her, taking away her phone, having her brothers keep a close eye on her. Safiya didn't seem to take it all that well, sulking and being more defiant with her parents and family. It started getting to a point where she questioned insistently why on earth Farouk was allowed to do more and frankly be more just because he was a man. The more Safiya rebelled, the more puritanical her parents seemed to get and they started to have strained relations.

Worse problems arose, however, with the downturn in the local economy and increasing brutality of the government. And to find that her daughter was one mortified Safiya and her family.

Despite these familial difficulties, Safiya managed to be recruited into the ranks of being a Wards hero for two years before graduating into the Protectorate, living by herself in the Dutch-Indonesian District.

Looks fine to me!

Name: Harvey Farrell

Cape Alias: Vizier

Age: 42

Sex: Male

Alignment: Villain

Appearance:
QpraYoO.jpg
3oA2d7x.jpg

Standing at a height of 6? 3? and built with fairly built up musculature from his time working out in the gym, Harvey stands up as a fairly imposing figure despite his more subdued business casual attire. On top of a penchant to wear smart clothing (dress shirt, tie, slacks) along with expensive sunglasses, he has been told many times he is quite a looker with suntanned skin, a square jawline, well sculpted face and salt and pepper hair. Harvey, when he feels no need to dress up, dresses in cardigans and khakis or flannel shirts and jeans.

As a big contrast to his unassuming appearance away from his current job, his costume consists of a heavily armored costume with reddish colored arm in the vital areas such as the knees, legs, chest and forearms, with the armor also acting as a sort of collar around his neck. There are two cannons on the arms of the costume.

Power: Laser Optics

With the assistance of Tinker tech he secured on a ?business? trip, Harvey has pinpoint control of high powered laser beams (varying in strength by color) and the ability to make laser constructs. The versatility of the power allow a range from gun like beams for offense, constructed shields for defense and high energy bombs.

Personality: Harvey is seemingly a person who is married to whatever job he currently has, usually seen going the extra mile to make a venture succeed, putting in long hours, personal dedication and enthusiasm. At this point the mentality is a necessity with his sentence in prison, but has basis for his successful start up company in Austin, Texas and channeling the passion he had then. By all accounts, he?s a sociable guy able to gel well with many crowds, tending to be on the chatty side with a refined method of communicating, even if it is perceived as not refined due to his heavy Texas accent, a lot of times to his chagrin. To compliment this sociability comes an affable nature and a loud, outspoken demeanor. With a fiery spirit at his back and a sense of confidence, he makes one heck of a good salesman, often knowing just the thing to say to get someone to buy more tea or the way to pitch something to his criminal associates.

Internally, however, there is more than meets the eye. This is where the seemingly well satisfied and legitimate side of Harvey Farrell cracks, falters and is twisted into what made him turn into a villain in the first place. This involves the power that went to his head and making him quite arrogant and self assured, feeling quite above the law doing his less than legal dealings. He also possesses a related sense of a materialistic desire for all the gains that comes with the underworld.

History and Trigger Events: Born in a middle class neighborhood in Fort Worth, Texas, Harvey grew up a fairly ordinary life with his father working at Texas Instruments and his mother working as a nurse at the local hospital. From this early age, young Harvey was fascinated with electronics, very interested on what sorts of gadgets he thought his father?s workplace would come up with. As he grew up, the technology grew increasingly complex and intricate, Harvey followed along every step of the way. Sure, he was called a geek and a nerd at the time, but he had enough friends to get by and more than enough ?toys? to play around with. This passion fully bloomed in high school, prepping himself for a career in computer science.

After graduating from university and acquiring degrees in business and computer science, Harvey was eager to strike it big with the ballooning tech scene 200 miles to the south in Austin. After working for several years for computer companies in the region, he secured the capital, ideas and reputation to establish his own firm, specializing in building personal computers and hosting server racks. Already a well known name in the industry, his company was very successful and enriched him personally with hundreds of millions of dollars in a matter of a few years. He found himself a beautiful wife at the age of 28, settled down to have two children with her. All was well.

On a muggy evening in downtown Austin, while Harvey was dragged out to a nightclub by an old buddy of his, he was accosted by a shady character to help him with his car. Not exactly sober at the time, Harvey followed the man and attempted to help him, only to be held at gunpoint and told to hand over his valuables. At the age of 32, Harvey triggered and had access to powers involving lasers. If he was not aware of parahumans, he would have laughed and called it something straight out of the videogame developing division he had recently acquired. At that moment, he willed a laser and shot the gun out of his hand and aiming another shot for a more deadly strike, killing him. It was then that he realized he had a power far greater than being a tech pusher, and let the power absolutely get into his head, at the cost of his familial relations, his squeaky clean . Now looking to expand from his former base in Austin-San Antonio area, he moved into Fallcliff to escape the heat of the South Texas PRT division.

NPC that I plan on introducing soon. Any Problems?

The Elemental - Lisa Ormanni - Villain

17, Italian, delicate face, average height, physically fit, long hair and soft eyes both naturally a very mirror-like appearance due to her power.

Her plain, skin tight cape outfit is segmented into various mirror-like reflective shades that appear to form thigh highs, and opera gloves over the top of it. Her mask, physically similar to Drakath's masquerade, though more elegant, also paired with the same ninja-like mask for the lower half of her face. Meanwhile, her long cape follow the same mirror-like formula along with her flowing hair. (A walking mirror that's kinda hard to look at)

A not too well known La Fenice member and old friend of Drakath/Kiro Irakuza. (Though her relationships with both are a little shaky now due to recent events)

Can summon and manipulate any element, but only to a small extent, forming nothing bigger than a softball, forcing her to use her creativity to make them effective in combat. Not atomic elements, think "fantasy elements" like, Electricity, Water, Fire, Earth, Light, ect.

Alternatively, she can draw an element from its source, limiting her to that element but strengthening it in the process until the element is drained. (Duration of the buff depends on the amount of the element absorbed)

Her hair, eyes, and cape outfit change from mirror to actual color palettes with varying degrees of saturation to match the current element and the amount stored. She always uses Earth outside of combat for its easy access and natural colors, that help her look normal in civilian clothes.

Blaster/Shaker/Striker

(Trump?,) Shaker/Striker, Thinker

Can't believe I didn't see this. A few things.

1. I'd make it so she can only use her power by "absorbing" or coming into contact with the element she wants to manipulate. That would make it a fairer power imo

2. She'd be Blaster/Striker/Shaker definitely not a Trump or Thinker.

I can also change it to copying. His power is essentially genetic engineering on a very precise level.

I basically just want to give Prof a reason to study triggers/force them, so as to fit into Splinter's lore. If the genetics doesn't work out, other potential powers could be power copying or manipulation, or maybe person-to-person mental transferrence (keep a bunch of different triggered bodies to swap in to as needed).

Forcing triggers almost never works anyway.
Why does he need that kind of power to be interested in researching triggers?

Clarissa Bevin-Jones
aka Aereo

Alignment:
Hero

Sex:
Female

Age:
16

Appearance:
On the lean side and somewhat gangly side, Clarissa stands at a tall height for a woman at 5' 10" and even stands taller than some of her male peers. Her face, usually conveying an open mouthed expression of hesitation and nervousness, is long and somewhat squared. Her hair, orangish-red, is tousled and kept at neck length and left unkempt. Clarissa's eyes are a green color, compared to emeralds if the person is kind.

In the costume of Aereo, she adopts a black military-esque bodysuit with black spines on the legs, leather straps over the stomach and chest and the striking gas mask.

Personality:
Despite having adept physical capacity and a tall, imposing physical presence, Clarissa very much acts with reservation, shyness and hesitation. Her introverted behavior mainly comes with her early childhood years. These formative years and her more recent high school experiences have conditioned her to always be on edge, avoid people and most importantly, don't strike back, talk back or defy anyone. Scarcely having positive interaction with peers for a lot of her life, she is not particularly adept at interacting socially in the first place outside of immediate family. Because of all of this baggage, Clarissa has many self esteem issues. Despite having many justifications for actively hating the world she is in and react with hostility and bitterness, Clarissa's demeanor still maintains, if nothing else, an air of kindliness and sensitivity.

Especially in light of recent events, Clarissa is extremely reluctant to trust people and have faith in them. This really eats away at her, desperately wanting to be able to be like her other peers and live normally and have friends. As a way to cope and to find some semblance of positivity in her life, she finds solace in books, doing well in school and media such as comics, manga, anime and video games.

Away from any baggage she has, as the heroine Aereo, Clarissa is an entirely new person. Confident, stoic and serious, Aereo has sharp wit and a high dedication to the job, treating the job with all the honor and integrity associated with those in the military. In fact, Aereo likens herself to a soldier of sorts, manifesting in her mannerisms and behavior.

Power
Gas Manipulation
Aereo can use her surrounding environment (classifying the power as Shaker) to manipulate gasses and their properties. Whether it is drawing upon the atmosphere around her or conjuring one, Aereo can use gasses for any number of things, ranging from explosive to tranquilizer.

History and Trigger Event:
A native of Fallcliff in a slummy, crime ridden section of the Vacant District, Clarissa's life hasn't started out sunshine and rainbows. After having Clarissa (then known as Clarissa Kaczinski), the couple struggled to make ends meet having to have her mother stay home and raise her while her father went out and worked long, hard hours on minimum wage. There was always a looming sense of financial insecurity, and it manifested itself in the quality care of Clarissa. Tried as they might by being fairly loving to their daughter, there was no escaping the trappings of poverty. As Clarissa grew up, her parents would spend whatever spare money they could scrape up and spend it on anything necessary for their child, putting her over themselves. However, Clarissa's problems were further exacerbated by people at her more upper class public school on the other side of town mocking or deriding her for not having some of the stuff her peers had or the nicest clothes. It certainly was not helping in Clarissa's case that the staff seemed fairly indifferent to this form of bullying and alienation.

Everything changed one day, when Clarissa was taking the school bus back to her tenement when she was in the third grade. Going through the usual routine of being a diligent student, avoiding bullies and keeping a low profile, the office called her down. When they called her in, Clarissa could already tell what they were going to tell her was bad, based on the pained faces on the counselor's face, her tone of voice and the solemn air surrounding them. However, that could not prepare for what the reality of the situation: her parents, walking out to buy groceries, was caught in the crossfire of a drive by shooting and were subsequently killed. With no relatives willing or able to care for the now orphaned child, she was put up with a foster family with a childless gay couple, both ex military. Clarissa was absolutely wrecked by the loss and became despondent to the point of shutting down. Nothing seemed to matter, and nothing could seem to stir her. Of course therapy was in order for the troubled child, but progress was quite slow due to the severity of the trauma. As time went on, things slowly healed, aided by the affable and supportive nature of her foster guardians. Eventually, it reached a point where it was very apparent that they operated much more as a family than as a temporary guardian. After much deliberation, both with getting Clarissa to fully accept them as parental figures and working out the logistics of the long process to adopt, Clarissa finally became a proper daughter again, both in spirit and in the law.

That all changed with the addition of a transfer student during the beginning of sophomore year in high school, who was an old friend of a group of people Clarissa she learned to call friends and unfortunately, one of the bullies from elementary school. All too familiar with Clarissa and not having changed much from those days, the bully went behind her back to tell people about Clarissa's supposedly weird and unsavory behaviors while openly demeaning her with disparaging comments on her appearance, snarky, nasty put downs, online harassment and picking apart every little thing from both the past and present to show Clarissa in an unflattering light. Knowing what the bully was capable of if Clarissa uttered so much as a noise of dissent or disapproval at the bullying, Clarissa could do nothing to stem the wave of bullying. The immense pain felt by her resurfaced old fears, memories and emotions. Things boiled over when the rumors came around to her friends. Considered among the more popular in school, they started talking behind her back and transitioning to plain acting as if they were never friends and joined in on the spectacle. At this point, whatever semblance of success and safety she felt was shattered and Clarissa triggered as she fled to the restroom and sobbed with no one to help. She soon found out her powers and viewing heroism as a true second chance, with no one by definition knowing really who she is. Although Clarissa has enjoyed heroism thus far, she still has to deal with bullying.
