I've been having an arguement with a friend about this. So I thought I'd bring it to the experts. In your personal opinion, is cheating right or wrong?

First, I'll give you mine. To an extent, I feel cheating is okay. Some parts of games, not just PokMon, are annoying and take too long. The fun of PokMon lies in developing a powerful team, not doing the subplots along the way. So if you can get past them by cheating, why not.

On the other hand, making max stat PokMon takes the fun out of the game. The fun lies, as I said before, in the development of the supreme team. If you're only battling someone who has max stat PokMon, then feel free. But not against those who legitimatly raise their teams.

for Pokemon, a game that has 0 plot/most games' stuff and 100% "it's all about the final results and skills kidos" I think that it's ok to cheat. Just beat the game once using one day's time (you need no more than that to beat the game... it's a pushover), and then go ahead to develop the supposedly ultimate team.

As long as the final product of your team is within legal limits, with no more than 510 total EVs, no illegal movesets and so on, I think that it's fine. As all that matters for Pokemon is battling skill (which cheating devices cannot help you with) and team development (which is just planning). In this case, cheating is fine as long as the ending result is "legal."

For other games where you play for plot/difficult/stuff along the way, don't cheat then as the game is not intended for you to cheat.

That's exactly what I meant.

You see, my friend got all 201 PokMon w/o cheating. So, I've been trying to help him get extra PokMon (that aren't in Colloseum, since he got those now too). But he says that cheating is immoral, and all that stuff.

Well, in a Pokemon game, I don't think it matters that much. If someone wants to cheat instead of do it the right way, it's their choice. I mean, they are just taking the fun out of the game by doing it. In game cheats, (multiple items cheat in red/blue) would proably be a little better than Game Shark, only because than it is the game maker's problem that the cheat is accessible by only the game.

In other games, you should only cheat when the game is so hard, that you get so frusterated and all the fun is taken out of it. I mean, there really is no point to video games if you aren't having any fun, right?

I agree with Porygon. I don't do anything I could normally do in the game. That would take the fun out of it.

And by the way, GS codes are not illegal, they just make Nintendo very unhappy with you. If they were illegal, then Action Replays and Gamesharks wouldn't exist.

Allow me to rephrase what I said.

If cheating devices were illegal, there would be some effort by Nintendo to stop them. However, Nintendo has not made any legal moves against Datel (AR) or Interact (GSA), or Pelican (CBA) for that matter.

I totally agree. I might use GameShark to... get a certain Pokmon, or get an item or something. But I don't like getting all legendaries at level 100, and beating everyone. That takes the fun out of playing, because you always win. I only get legendaries to add to the dex, and if I get them, they are not level 100. It gets boring after you pass level 55 IMO.

Like I said, I think it's wrong to abuse the cheats by getting all 00ber Pokmon.

not really... Unless you also shark the EVs, a team of 00ber Pokemon can still be crushed easily if they lack planning. In Pokemon, as long as the final result is legal (meaning that you're only using cheats to save time or so you don't have to rely on trading), the cheat is doing nothing but safe time...

Cheat Devices are plain and simple.
They're an easy out for people WITHOUT THE SKILL to play the game as it was intended.
The moment you use one, you're admitting you're a loser that has been BEATEN by the game.
There's a small problem with your theory...

I beat the game before cheating. How did it beat me?
