Okay, I've just bred a beautiful Totodile, including the Egg moves Dragon Dance and Crunch. It's a Jolly nature, and it has 30 IVs in Attack and Special Defense, and 18+ IVs in every other stat. Now, before I screw up raising it, I'd like to see everybody's suggestions for it. Now, please note that it'll need to follow this criteria...

It's male.
It has a Jolly nature.
The only Egg moves it has is Dragon Dance and Crunch.

All suggestions are welcome, so long as they follow those rules. Let the discussion begin! I'll put the most up-to-date suggestion(s) at the bottom of this post.

So far we have...
Feraligatr @ Leftovers
Jolly
252 Attk/ 20 Def/ 232 Spd (Potential EV swapping between Attack and Defense. Speed is needed to get to the suggested 264 speed.)
Waterfall
Ice Fang
Dragon Dance
Earthquake

OR

Feraligatr @ Leftovers/Life Orb
Jolly
252 Def(HP?)/ 148 Atk/ 108 Spd
Waterfall/Aqua Tail
Dragon Dance
Ice Fang
Earthquake

Well, I would advise having Ice Punch. So, I don't find your Feraligatr usable at all. Really, Ice Punch is really needed.

Would Ice Fang just not be enough? I'm gonna be sad if I have to wave goodbye to this guy...

If you're going have to rely on Ice Fang, you might as well use Gyarados.
Better stats and really easy to breed.

But Feraligatr lacks the weaknesses that come tied in with the flying/water type, although he does lose immunity to Earthquake, as well as the superior stats...

I guess for me, Gatr's just one of my faves, and I was hoping to use him. Is there really no option with him missing Ice Punch?

Feraligatr @ Leftovers/Lum Berry
Jolly/Adamant 4 HP/ 252 ATK/ 252 SPEED
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Ice Punch/Fang/Rock Slide (I don't think it gets Stone Edge)
- Earthquake/Crunch (for Cressy)/Superpower(lol don't use it).

Yeah, it doesn't get Stone Edge, which bummed me out. However, I have a Ttar with all of my Stone Edging needs...

I've heard mention of Dragon Claw on another thread. Does that have any potential use?

And what about Aqua Tail? Isn't it a physical, with 90 base power, instead of Waterfall's 80?

Okay for one, its impossible to get both Ice Punch and DD on a Totodile.

Now here's what i suggest for Feraligatr

[email protected] Band/Leftovers
Impish/Adamant nature
252 Def/200Atk/56 Spd
DD/Swords Dance
Ice Fang/Ice Punch
Waterfall/Aqua Tail
Earthquake.

Feraligatr gets STAB on both Waterfall and Aqua Tail its just up to you whether you want to go power or Accuracy.

I can't quite remember the EV spread but
Feraligatr's got a good base defense stat for a starter, it's speed isn't great so it's better to run it with a DD and pump it up with defensive EV's.
If your going with Jolly nature esspecially put the majority of your EV's into Defense and Atk.

Well, Dragon Claw rarely does anything better than Ice Punch. Only against Kingdra and Palkia, I guess. Really, Dragon Claw isn't needed.

If you factor accuracy, Aqua Tail has only 1% more power. Still, I prefer Waterfall, since it has a 20% flich rate.

EDIT: On above post, Dragonite can have both, and breed them down to Totodile. Dragonite learns DD by level up and Ice Punch by Move tutor on Emerald.

Ah, I didn't know about Waterfall's flinching capabilities...

So you're saying run it with a set like...
252 Atk/ 252 Def/ 4 HP?

you can throw some EV's into speed(probabley no more than 56), but Feraligatr's more of a physical Tank than sweeper, so just make sure it has a good amount of defens eand attack in there.

Totodile's my favourite pokemon!

Better off with max Speed > Def, IMHO. You'll want to outspeed things as quick as possible

So maybe a set like this... (Trying to combine all advice given thus-far)

Feraligatr @ Leftovers
Jolly
252 Spd/ 148 Atk/ 108 Def
Waterfall/Aqua Tail
Dragon Dance
Ice Fang
Earthquake

Edit:^^switch speed and defense EV's.^^

280 max speed is not going to outspeed much plus without the defense he might not be able to pull of a DD. His 100 base defense isn't something that should be ignored.

In a way, getting Feraliagtr to low health is a good thing, so you can take advantage of Torrent. Maybe have enough speed to get to 264 Speed (396 after one DD > 394 of Timid/Jolly base 120 Speeds), and sink the rest into Defence.

If you want to risk it, if your absolutely convinced on plugging Feraligatr up with speed EV's i'd try not to give it more than 176-200.

Edit: you could even switch the Atk and Speed Ev's. that way you'll still end up with around 250 in speed.

It's a matter of preference really. I can see the advantage of having a more defensive spread (I've done something similar to my Porygon Z). I'd just personally use a more sweeping style for Feraligatr.

In order to get 260 speed (according to the Serebii stat calculator), I need to have 232 EVs in speed. If I do that, my spread will be (If I want max in Attack), 252 Attk/ 20 Def/ 232 Spd. Should I subtract some from Attack and put it in Defense?

Definately, and I'm not sure you want to give up that much in speed, actually pm Samson. He's an expert on Feraligatr.
