Hey readers, this is a story I've been thinking on for a couple of weeks now. Basically, it's a novelisation of the Pokemon Special Manga, which surpasses the anime by far. Unfortunately, not everyone is lucky enough to get to read the actual books, so I have decided to write a story version of the great series. The series will follow the books, so you'll get all the important details from the R/B/G saga in here. So, I hope you all enjoy, and now let's get down to reading, shall we?

Chapter One: Vs. Mew!

In a small town called Pallet…

“What the hell! The Ball bounced off again!”

A group of a dozen kids stand around a Nidorino, which grunts boringly. The kids furiously stare at the Nidorino, as if to intimidate it into the PokeBalls that rest in their small, chubby hands. The Nidorino, circled by the group, glares at each one in turn, but none of the kids are scared off. A small, frail girl cleared her throat, and stepped forward. The Nidorino spun round to meet her, and grunted.

“Nidorinoooo…” He growled, and the girl hiccupped with fright.

“Go on Susan! Catch the Nidorino!” A small boy shouted up behind glasses. Susan gulped again, and threw her PokeBall at the Nidorino.

Every one of the dozen kids held their breath, as the PokeBall spun through the air, as if in slow motion. The Nidorino grinned, as the PokeBall fell toward the grand horn on his head. The Ball bounced feebly off his horn, and landed on the grass behind, rocking to and fro slowly.

The children let out their held breath, and the girl drooped her head.

“I hate Pokemon!” She shouted angrily, and spun round on the spot. She began to march back to a small group of houses in the distance, but she bumped her head on something. She gasped as she looked up, to see an older boy smiling down at her.

“That isn’t how you catch a Pokemon, kid,” the boy said. A small tuft of hair waved around in the breeze, sprouting from his red hat. “First, you gotta weaken the Pokemon, then throw the PokeBall!”

Susan looked up at him, with a confused look in her face.

“For instance, watch me!” He announced, and he grabbed a PokeBall from a belt around his waist.

“Poliwhirl, go!” He shouted proudly, as he threw the PokeBall into the air. The ball opened, and released a strange blue energy. The energy began to form into what looked like a blue frog, with two small, beady eyes. In the middle of his belly, was a white patch, with a black swirl running through it.

“Polllli-whirl!” The Pokemon growled. The boy smiled down at his Pokemon, and the frog Pokemon did the same.

“Okay, Nyoro!” The boy used Poliwhirl’s nickname. “Water Gun on the Nidorino, now!”

The Poliwhirl raised its hand up high in the air, and spun it round fiercely. Soon, a wild flurry of water swirled around his hand, and Nyoro threw his hand forward at Nidorino. The Water Gun darted towards Nidorino, knocking it clean off its feet.

“Woah!” The bespectacled boy gasped.

“It’s gone all dizzy!” an amazed Susan said.

Susan was right - the Nidorino had fell to the ground, its eyes crossed over, and a couple of bruises over its face.

“Now we catch the Nidorino!” The boy instructed, and he unclipped an empty red and white PokeBall from his belt. He threw it at the hurt Nidorino, who looked up weakly. Defencelessly, the Nidorino was sealed inside the PokeBall, which then flew back into the boys hand. Nyoro’s eyes twinkled, as Red returned him to his PokeBall.

“Woah! You’re really good, Red!” Susan said, as the boy, known as Red passed her the PokeBall.

“Keep it, kid,” Red smiled, as the children applauded. Susan stroked the Ball, as her friends tugged at Red’s waistcoat.

Red smirked, as the kids began to lead him towards town. Everyone in Pallet Town knew Red, and it was no surprise why. Everyone knew he was going to catch every single kind of Pokemon, no matter how many there were, which was why he was popular among the kids.

“Hey, Red!” A boy with a net chirped next to the taller boy. “Do you know Professor Oak?”

Red thought about it for a minute, then suddenly remembered who the small child was talking about.

“Oh, you mean the old guy who lives at the edge of town?”

“People says he knows a lot about Pokemon! Maybe he can teach us how to catch them?” The boy asked, and Red laughed confidently.

“You don’t need the old codger to teach you, I can teach you everything you’ll ever need to know!”

“Maybe so…” said a girl, with long blonde hair, “but people say that Professor Oak taught his grandson how to be the worlds greatest Pokemon Trainer!”

Red stopped in his tracks.

“He has a grandson?!?” Red said astonishingly.

“Uh-huh! He’s been studying overseas, and just got back! He’s been gone for ages!”

“Hmph…” Red huffed. He didn’t like it when people paid attention to people other than himself.

“Well, I don’t care who he is, kid, I’ll beat him anyways!”

The kids looked at him dreamily, but they soon came to a fork in the road.

“Bye, Red!” The kids called, and Red waved back. He began to walk down his own road, crossing his arms.

“Professor Oak, hmm? Never would have thought he had a grandson…OUCH!”

Red fell down on the dusty road, getting dust in his eyes. He kneeled up, and rubbed it out of his eyes. Standing in front of him, was a man in a black jumpsuit, and a black hat. On his shirt was a big, red R, which caught Red’s attention straight away.

“Watch where you’re going, worm!” The man growled, and Red cowered. The man joined half a dozen others, and began to walk towards a forest in the distance.

“Where did they come from?” Red asked himself, as he looked up at them once more. He spotted two red and white Balls around one of the people’s belts, and his eyes lit up.

“Hey! They have PokeBalls! Must be trainers!” Red squeaked excitedly, and he crept after them. The group of men stopped in the middle of a field, and Red managed to roll under a bush. He peered through some leaves, watching the men talk.

“It must be in this general area!” One of the men barked at the others.

‘He must be the leader…’ Red thought to himself, ‘but what’s it?’

“Do not rest until you find it! Find that Phantom Pokemon!”

‘Phantom Pokemon? Never heard of it in my life…” Red murmured, but the men began to move.

“We have not checked the West Wood! Comb it to the last blade of grass!” The leader barked, and the six men ran into the forest.

Red watched, as the men disappeared into the Woods. Red grinned, as he hurtled after them.

“They should keep quiet about their plans!” Red snickered, as he sprinted towards the Woods. “That Phantom Pokemon is mine, or else my name is not Red!”

Red darted through the Woods, his PokeBall containing Nyoro clanking against his belt. He crouched down, and picked up a stray PokeBall, which had probably been lost by a bug trainer. Every now and then, Red would stop, pick up a PokeBall, and add it to his free hand, until he was running with both hands full, and some even tucked inside his hat. He kept on running, until he came to a circle of tight trees, where he could hide.

“Phew…they’re not in here yet!” Red chuckled to himself, as he looked around for the mysterious men. He cut his words short, as a blinding flash illuminated the trees around him.

“W-what is that?” Red asked himself, and he scrambled through the trees, to find a clearing. Behind a bush was a glowing Pokemon, with two large eyes. Standing before it, was a boy, that looked Red’s age, wearing a purple sweater, and brown, spiky hair. The boy looked on solemnly, whilst Red freaked out.

“That’s one of the dumb-butts that I bumped into earlier!” Red whispered, as he watched the boy grab a PokeBall from his pocket. Suddenly, he leapt into action.

“Charmander, go!” The boy shouted, as he threw a red and white PokeBall into the air. A beam of blue energy appeared, and it transformed into a small, orange lizard, with a flaming tail.

“Oh wow, a Pokemon Trainer!” Red murmured, as the boy concentrated on the strange Pokemon in front of him.

The Charmander leapt into action, firing a flurry of small bullets at the mysterious Pokemon. The Pokemon flew up high in the air, and created a light purple aura around its body. The bullets deflected, and faded away before they landed.

“Woah! What was that attack?” Red asked himself in awe, “but more importantly, what is that Pokemon?”

Red silently rooted for the Charmander behind the trees, whilst the boy watched the match calmly. However, the mystery Pokemon continued to deflect the Charmander’s attacks, and the boy walked forward.

“Charmander, enough! Return!” The boy shouted out, and Red burst out of his hiding place.

“What do you think you’re doing?” Red shouted at the boy, who pocketed his returned Charmander.

“You almost had that weird Pokemon! Why did you -”

Red gave up shouting, because the boy just stared at him blankly.

“Stubborn much?” Red said through gritted teeth, but he grabbed his PokeBall from his belt, dropping the pile of others on the floor.

“Nyoro! You’re up!” Red barked, as the Poliwhirl appeared before him.

“Nyoro, Water Gun!” Red shouted quickly, and his Nyoro raised its hand again. The turret of water appeared around his hand, and he aimed it at the weird Pokemon.

“That’s it!” Red shouted, as the water flew towards the Pokemon. The Pokemon cried out, and shot out the same purple aura around its body, and deflected the water.

“Mew!” It called out, and shot a purple beam of light at Nyoro. The Poliwhirl was sent flying into a tree, where it groaned, and fainted.

“Nyoro!” Red shouted, as he ran to his friend. Red was suddenly reminded of the confused Nidorino from earlier.

“Nyoro, return…” Red said grimly, as his Nyoro was transported back to its Ball. Red looked inside, to see his only friend snooze away weakly in its Ball.

“Are you blind?” The boy asked Red, as he clipped the Ball back on his belt. “Did you notice anything during our battle?”

“Huh?” Red said, as he stood up.

“I could tell there was a massive difference in strength, that’s why I stopped the battle. Know your limitations, or you’ll only beat yourself,” the boy scolded, as he began to walk away.

“Remember that,” he called, before he disappeared into the darkness of the trees.

“I actually lost…?” Red said to himself. He thought himself invincible, but he was humiliatingly proven wrong.

Suddenly, the strange men came into the clearing.

“The field has been burnt!” One of them shouted, but then he laid eyes on Red, who was still drooping his head.

“You!” The man said, recognising Red. “What have you done this time, worm?”

“Forget the runt!” Another man said. “Mew might still be around!”

The first man spat on the floor, then turned to his colleagues.

“Go!” He shouted, and the six men stampeded through the way Red came.

***

“So this is Professor Oak’s Lab?” Red asked himself. The sun was setting, and he was standing outside a small laboratory, with the sign ‘Oak Pokemon Research Lab’ written on it.

“They say he’s a mean old guy, so I always kept away…”

Red looked wistfully at his Nyoro, who was still sleeping, but a little more easily now.

“I guess if I’m gonna be a decent trainer, I have to start somewhere…”

Red reached out to the doorbell, and pressed a shaky finger onto it. A faint buzz ringed inside the Lab, and Red waited, trembling in front of the door.

Pokemon Special is what they call it in Japan, and he said that at the beginning. Anyway....

Alright, more description of Red, since without manga I don't know what he looks like. I like how it stays true to the original, but at the same time you have to remember that novelizations of already existing stories have to be different in some way, not necessarily in terms of basic plot but perhaps certain details, the addition of stories not seen in the original, getting into the character's heads more, etc. On the other hand, it isn't a horrid story and has few mistakes in grammar, and while the dialogue is pretty much wholesale quoted from the original "Vs. Mew", you at least are able to show the characters and their actions well enough. The verdict? Work harder to add your own touch to the manga in order to make this a better story, but at the same time don't lose what you have going.

Pokemon Adventures is what it is called in the English Version.

Okay, I'll get to work on description in the next chapter. Thanks for the positive points, and I'll work on modifying it from the original, and getting into the character's heads. Thanks.

Pokemon Special: The Novelisation
Book One: The Red Blue Green Saga

A/N: Recap: Red has captured a Nidorino, and gave it away to a little girl. Later, Red followed a mysterious group of men into the West Wood, where he fought a young boy, and a mysterious Pokemon.

Chapter Two: Vs. Machoke

Seconds passed, and no-one answered the door.

“Hmm…must be busy,” he reasoned with himself, and he pushed in the bell again.

Brring!

Again, Red waited for a few minutes, but again, there was no answer.

“Hello! Is anybody in?” Red shouted, as his waistcoat rustled around in the wind. He waited for a couple of seconds, so he folded his arms stubbornly. He was about to turn away, when he noticed the door handle. He slowly reached out his hand again, and grasped the door handle. He pulled it, expecting nothing, but surprisingly, the handle spun around, and the door swung open.

“It’s open!” Red breathed, as he took one last look outside. ‘Have to hurry up,’ he thought, ‘it’s nearly dark…’

Red looked inside, to see a room thrice the size of his small cottage.

“It is massive in here!” Red exclaimed, as he strolled in. Against the wall was various bookcases of different sizes, housing many different types of books. Next to the cases were small tables with laptops shut tight on them, along with piles of boxes, with words scrawled messily on the side.

“He must have only just got back, then,” Red murmured to himself, as he walked through the Lab. He turned a corner, to see four shelves, covered head to toe in PokeBalls.

“Look at all the PokeBalls!” Red nearly squealed, as he ran into the centre of the hallway. He looked around happily, until he found a PokeBall with a sheet of paper stuck to it.

“What’s this Pokemon?” Red asked himself, as he picked it up. Written on the sheet of paper, was the word -

“Bulbasaur! Cool! They are really rare!” Red exclaimed, as he grabbed Nyoro from his belt.

“Nyoro, look at this Bulbasaur!” a gleeful Red insisted, as he held the two PokeBalls close to each other. For a few seconds, Red grinned, as Nyoro and the Bulbasaur sized each other up. Then, without warning, the Bulbasaur began to growl at Nyoro, who turned his back on the Pokemon.

“Okay…I’m just gonna put you back…” Red said uncertainly, as he placed Bulbasaur back on the shelf. Behind him, the door made a long, slow, creaking noise, and Red froze.

“You Poke-Thief!” Red spun round, to see an angry man, running towards him in a lab coat.

“No, wait! You have it wrong!” Red protested, as he ran further into the Lab, Nyoro still in his hands.

“Give me back the Poliwhirl, or I will call the police!” The man shouted fiercely.

“Please Sir, I didn’t - GAH!”

Red walked straight into a machine, and the man stopped mid-step.

“You fool! You have opened the Balls!” The man shouted at the top of his voice.

Red quickly spun round on his heel, to see a machine flash and light up. There was a sound, like a computer activating, and suddenly, every single PokeBall on the shelves opened up, and a hundred or so Pokemon’s heads popped out of the Balls.

“No!” The man bellowed, as dozens of Pidgeys, Rattatas, and Caterpies escaped from the Lab. The Pidgeys smashed through the windows, as they ran to freedom, and the Rattatas ran for the door. The Caterpies scooted after them, and Red swore he saw a small Bulbasaur escaping to freedom.

“My lord, the Pokemon! Look what you have done, you foolish child!” The man screamed at Red, who read his name tag. ‘Professor Oak,’ it said, and Red suddenly felt his cheeks getting hotter.

“Please, Professor, I didn’t mean to -”

“Pidge Pidge Pidgey!” A frantic bird Pokemon shouted, as it excreted on Oak’s head.

“GET BACK MY POKEMON!”

“Okay!”

Red ran through Pallet Town, with a heavy bin bag around his shoulder. He felt like Santa Clause, as little kids looking out from their windows watched him catch Oak’s Pokemon, and throw them into the bag. Before long, he had captured most of the little critters, and was trudging back to Oak’s, in the dark.

“I’m back, Professor Oak, Sir,” Red panted, as he dropped the bin bag on the floor. Oak put his hands on his hips, and stared down at Red.

“Please tell me none of them escaped?” Oak asked, as Red placed them back on their shelves slowly. He continued to grab three Balls at a time, until nearly all five shelves were completed. He scooped up a final Weedle, and placed it one of the Ball holders, to find one space left. Red’s eyes nearly popped out of his head - he had lost Oak’s rarest Pokemon in the Lab.

“I may have…misplaced, yeah, misplaced…your…”

“Go on boy,” Oak said sternly, as Red fidgeted with his fingers.

“What? My Bulbasaur! That is my rarest Pokemon!” Oak roared, as Red cowered in the corner.

“I’ll go out now and look for it, please, just give me a chance!”

“It is too dark! Besides, your mother will be getting worried! You run along home now, boy, and I will deal with you tomorrow! Understood?”

“Yessir!” Red chanted hesitantly, and Oak opened the door.

“Now go home, and think about what you have done!” Oak ordered, and Red traipsed out of the Lab, still clutching Nyoro firmly in his hand.

***

“What? Who is it at this time in the morning?” Oak opened the Lab door slowly, to see Red at the door, frowning. “Oh it’s you, well, come in then,” Oak obliged, and opened the door further for Red.

“I’m here to collect Bulbasaur’s PokeBall, Professor Oak,” Red explained, as Oak walked over to his shelves. He walked up to Red, and the boy held out his hands, but Oak walked past him, and towards the door.
“Professor, I thought you wanted me to catch the Bulbasaur?” Red asked, crossing his fingers tightly behind his back.

“I do, but I have decided that I cannot trust you alone, with such a rare Pokemon like Bulbasaur. So I am coming with you!” Oak finalised, and Red loosened his fingers. Oak smiled smugly, and walked out of the door.

Red sighed, and followed the old Professor out. He shut the door firmly behind him, and turned around to look for Oak. From behind the Lab, a thing barged past him, and Red spun round.

“What was that thing?” Red questioned, but then noticed a shiny, red bike perched in front of him.

“I’m taking my bike, and you are going to run! I don’t trust you one little bit, Poke-Thief!” Oak cried out dramatically, but Red smiled to himself. He didn’t really want to go out on his own anyway - who knows where he could end up?

“Kid, what are you smiling about?” Oak barked like a dog, pedalling down the path. “We have a Bulbasaur to find!” Red stopped smiling, and looked at Oak. “Follow me!”

Oak began to pedal into the West Wood, closely followed by a sprinting Red.

“Kid, don’t feel secure! As soon as we find that Bulbasaur, I am turning you into the police!”

“Yes sir!” Red agreed, as they disappeared into the trees.

***

“I don’t see any signs of Bulbasaur here, Professor Oak, sir,” Red mumbled, as he and the old man looked around Viridian City.

“Yes well, if I knew we would have to have come to Viridian City, kid, I would have just let the Bulbasaur go…” Oak said wistfully.

“Has he got out before?” Red asked, as he pushed Oak’s bike round the streets.

“No…he has tried, though. Luckily, the other Pokemon have guarded the doorway when he has. You see, Bulbasaur is very stubborn and very advent-”

“Over there! It’s him!” Red shouted, and pointed down an alleyway, where a small, green creature stared at Red angrily.

“Chase after him!” Oak ordered, and the two ran down the alleyway. Bulbasaur’s eyes opened wide, and it flitted through the alleyway quickly. It rounded a corner, and jumped over a small fence, just as Red and Oak came charging through the small and tight pathway. Red quickly collapsed the bicycle as he ran, and cleared the fence, landing like a frog. Oak ran quickly, but stopped as soon as he reached the fence, and tried to climb over it pathetically.

“Hurry!” Red shouted desperately, as Oak came toppling over the fence.

“I’m okay!” He added, as he stumbled to his feet, joining Red in chasing the Bulbasaur around the quiet town.

“Round that corner, kid!” Oak ordered, as the Bulbasaur skidded, and rounded another corner, onto the main road.

Red sprinted as fast as he could, with the bike in his arms, turning the corner. Unfortunately, he slipped over his feet, and landed on the floor.

“Kid, get up!” Oak bellowed, as he stopped to a halt next to Red’s head.

“Where did he get to?” Oak asked inquisitively, searching round the street.

“He’s making a break for the Gym!” Red concluded, pointing towards the top of the street, where Viridian Gym stood. Red got back on his feet, and he and Oak charged towards the derelict Gym. Bulbasaur crawled through a hole in the boarded up door, seconds before Oak and Red jumped at it with their elbows. The wooden board snapped open, and Oak rubbed his elbow.

“Follow me!” Oak winced, as he ushered Red into the dark Gym.

Red tried to look around, but it was pitch black in the desolate Gym. Oak fumbled with his lab coat, and grabbed two torches. He handed one to Red, and he quickly switched it on.

“Woah, this place is huge!” Red whispered in awe, as he shone his torch against the wall. There was a long pillar stood up against the wall, with a large crack flowing through it. On top of the pillar was a bust of someone’s head - who it was, Red was oblivious to.

“Who is that?” Red asked himself, but he was interrupted by a frantic scuffling of feet.

“There you are, you little imp!” Oak said furiously, and Red shone his torch into the corner. Crouching down was Bulbasaur, with his eyes slanted.

“Come here, Bulbasaur…” Oak said, clicking his fingers. Suddenly, the Bulbasaur ran and leapt forward at Oak, tackling his stomach.

“Now, honestly! I am your owner!” Oak argued, as he landed on the cold stone floor. Red looked at Oak, then began to walk towards Bulbasaur.

“Hey Bulbasaur, don’t be scared. Sure it’s your first time out in the world, isn’t it?” Red said soothingly, and a confused Bulbasaur looked up at him.

“You were kept in that little capsule all of your life, but there’s no need to be nervous! Come here, Bulbasaur…”

Bulbasaur inched towards Red, as Oak looked ahead. Red patted Bulbasaur’s head softly, but Oak’s eyes widened.

“Red! Over there!” Oak trembled, standing up. Red grabbed the Bulbasaur in his hands, and stood up next to Oak. Out of the darkness, a massive creature two heads taller than Red appeared.

“What is it?” Red squeaked, as the Pokemon flexed its muscles.

“I-It’s a wild Machoke!” Oak answered, as the Machoke roared.

“Move!” Oak cried out, as he shoved Red out of the way, as the Machoke bought its fist down on the pair. Red and Bulbasaur sprinted across the Gym, as they heard a scared squeal in the distance.

“Professor Oak!” Red exclaimed, and turned around, only to be met by the Machoke, looking down on him. Bulbasaur squirmed in Red’s hands, and broke free, running underneath Machoke’s legs.

“Bulbasaur, no!” Red argued, as Machoke raised a massive fist.

“Machoke!” It growled again, and Red covered his face with his arms.

He waited for the fist to clobber his head in, but the pain never came. Red peered through his arms, to see the Machoke wrestling against a long, green vine entangled around his punching arm.

“Bulba Bulba!” He heard the Bulbasaur cry out, and Red quickly backed up against the wall.

“Professor!” Red shouted out, as the injured man stumbled into the corridor. “What’s Bulbasaur’s best attack?”

Red waited for an answer, as Machoke strained, but then Oak tripped over in his confusion, and landed head first on the floor.

“Think, Red, think…” Red racked his brains, as the vines began to rip. “If he has a bulb on his back then…yes! Bulbasaur, over here!” Red ordered, and Bulbasaur loosened his Vine Whip. He quickly darted back under Machoke’s legs, and stood beside Red.

“MACHOKE!” The crazy Pokemon shouted, as Red looked behind him. There was five planks of wood, all lined up on each other, blocking out a window.

“Come and get some Machoke!” Red taunted, and Machoke bought both fists down on the pair. Oak quickly opened his eyes, to see Red rip a plank of wood away, and to see Bulbasaur’s bulb open up, and take in the pouring sunlight.

“BULBASAUR!” Bulbasaur shouted, as his bulb took in the sunlight, and directed it at Machoke.

“YES!” Red screamed, as Machoke was flung over Oak’s head, and smashed into the wall on the opposite side of the Gym.

“Kid, you did it!” Oak smiled, as he scrambled up again, and ran to Red, and a tired, but happy Bulbasaur.

“How did you know how to execute Solar Beam?” Oak asked like a hyperactive girl, as Red scratched his hair.

“Well, I figured that plants turn sunlight into energy, and this Bulbasaur has a plant on it’s back -”

“You figured! Wah-hahahahahahaa! Oh, you’re amazing!” Oak cried out, as Red blushed to himself.

“Well, I wouldn’t say I’m amazing…okay, maybe a little bit!” Red grinned, as Oak grabbed a PokeBall from his belt, and pointed it towards Bulbasaur.

“Kid, I want you to have Bulbasaur!” Oak asked Red, who began to grin even wider.

“Really! That is so cool! Thanks, Professor Oak!”

“He’s bonded with you kid, it’s only right that he becomes yours!”

“Oh thanks, Professor, but let me make this clear. I did not break into your Lab yesterday! I wanted to become a better Trainer, so I came to you for help. You see, yesterday -”

“There is no need to explain, kid. Do you know what makes a good Pokemon Trainer? It is not if you have a powerhouse, it is not knowing clever tricks. No, it is what is in your heart. The connection you have with your Bulbasaur, and your Poliwhirl, is what is key to becoming a great Pokemon Trainer.”

Red nodded in agreement, and Oak began to walk towards the entrance. Grabbing Oak’s bike, Red followed him quickly.

“What is your name, boy?” Oak asked, as he swung open the Gym door.

“Red, Professor Oak,” Red replied, handing back the collapsed bike.

“Here, Red,” Oak said, handing over a small, red square, with flashing lights on it. Red took the square, and stared at it in amazement.

“This is the Pokedex - the encyclopaedia of Pokemon! Whenever you meet a Pokemon, enter your data into it. By the time you’ve input all your data into it, you may have become a truly great trainer!”

Red smiled, as he opened the Pokedex, and pressed all the buttons. He put Bulbasaur’s PokeBall next to the Dex. Suddenly, on screen, a massive list of data came up, and a small picture of a Bulbasaur.

“Cool! Me, one of the great Trainers!” Red said, as he closed the Dex, and clipped Bulbasaur onto his belt next to Nyoro.

“Thanks, Professor Oak!”

Chapter Three: Vs. Kangaskhan

“Red, if you expect to get data into that there Pokedex, you can’t just stay around in Pallet Town. You will have to expand your territory!”

“Yes sir!” Red answered, standing up straight.

“Why not start with the Viridian Forest, west of the city?” Oak offered, and Red nodded in agreement.

“You’re bound to find Pokemon there that you’ve never seen before. Besides, that happens to be where…”

Red suddenly became much more interested, but Oak’s stern lecture, soon turned into a big, wide grin.

“Ha! Never mind!” Oak laughed, and Red looked at him confused.

“What? Tell me!” Red demanded, but Oak just shrugged him off.

“Red, I’ll see you later!” Oak grinned, as he walked off into the city.

“Well, that was weird…” Red thought to himself, as a Pidgey flew over his head.

“Pidge!” It cawed, and Red snapped back into reality.

“To Viridian Forest!” He shouted to himself, as he ran through the shoppers of Viridian City.

***

“This is so boring…I could fall asleep…” Red yawned, as he trudged through the forest slowly. He walked into a clearing, where he fumbled with his belt.

“I know what I’ll do…Nyoro, Bulbasaur, come out!”

Two PokeBalls opened up, to reveal Red’s Poliwhirl and Bulbasaur looking at their surroundings.

“Hey you guys!” Red cooed, and his Pokemon ran over to him.

“Poliiii!” Nyoro sang, and Bulbasaur smiled in agreement. Red hugged his two Pokemon, then turned to Bulbasaur.

“Bulbasaur, this Pokemon Trainer has a rule for all his Pokemon!” Red announced, and Bulbasaur’s small eyes widened.

“They’re all nicknamed!”

Bulbasaur breathed a sigh of relief, as Red began to think about his new nickname.

“Poli, Poli, Whirl, Po-whirl!” Nyoro explained to Bulbasaur, who nodded, then turned to look back at Red.

“I know! I’ll call you Fusshii!” Red decided, and Nyoro clapped as Fusshii blushed.

“So then, Fusshii, are you ready to go exploring?” Red asked.

“Bulba-Bulbasaur!” Fusshii replied, and Red beamed. The young lad stood up, closely followed by Nyoro and Fusshii, and together they set off through the clearing.

Meanwhile…

The boy with spiky, brown hair folded his arms, as his small Charmander stood next to him, looking around for signs of other Pokemon. The wind whistled through the boy’s tall hair, nearly covering up the sound of rustling leaves. The boy’s eyes opened wide, and he immediately turned to his Charmander.

“Charmander, GO!” He ordered, and the small lizard leapt into the bush. The boy watched as a small flame burned above the bush, and seconds later a small winged creature slumped out of its hiding spot.

“A Venomoth…” the boy identified the Pokemon nearly instantly, as the Charmander jumped out of the bush. The boy grabbed his Pokedex, and scanned it over the fainted enemy.

“I already have one of those…” the boy concluded, as he shut the Pokedex. The boy turned his head to the trees.

“Will you just come out?” The boy asked the trees tiredly, but there was no reply back.

***

“Stupid Caterpie!” Red hissed, as Nyoro and Fusshii circled him. “Where are you?!?”

Red spun his head towards a bush, where a small scraping sound was generating from. He grinned evilly.

“Oh, Caterpie, you are mine! Nyoro, find that little menace!” Red ordered, and Nyoro jumped into the bush.

“Did you catch it, Nyoro? Did you - NYORO!”

The small frog-like Pokemon spun out of the bush, and landed next to Red’s feet. Fusshii growled at the bush, as Red picked up his first Pokemon. There was a few bruises and cuts on his body, but just as Red was about to find some medicine from his bag, he was interrupted by a vaguely familiar voice.

“That was your Poliwhirl? It’s pathetic!” The boy from the day before laughed, as his Charmander folded its arms. Fusshii stared at it menacingly, as Red did the same to the lizard’s master.

“We thought it was a wild Pokemon when we attacked,” the boy smirked, “don’t take it personally, or anything.”

“You did this to my Poliwhirl? You’ll pay!” Red growled, as he ran forward at the boy. He raised his fist, and aimed at the boys face, but in a swift movement, the boy had grabbed Red’s fist in his own, and was laughing to himself.

“Nonsense, kid! We’re both in this forest to catch some Pokemon, aren’t we? So it’s only right that we cross paths!” The boy explained, as Red struggled against his fist.

“Wait a minute, you’re that boy from yesterday evening!” Red remembered, but the boy seemed confused.

“Why do you keep on getting in my -”

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

“Argh!” Red squealed like a little girl, as the other boy withdrew his fist. He looked around, and smirked.

“So you have come at last!”

Red trembled, as Fusshii ran to his feet. Red returned him to his PokeBall, getting ready to run, but just as he was about to grab his injured Poliwhirl, a massive Pokemon towered over the two boys.

“Eyaaaaaaaaaaaaah!” Red screamed, whilst the other boy walked forward.

“I’ve been waiting for you, Kangaskhan!”

The Kangaskhan roared again, and kicked a line of trees out of its way, so it and the boy had a clear battlefield.

“I heard that you were here, but you did test my patience!”

“Char!” The Charmander agreed, as Red shook violently.

“Charmander, attack!” The boy ordered, and the Charmander bravely ran forward.

“Once I win, I’ll be able to put its data in my -”

“Hey! Th-that’s a Pokedex!” Red exclaimed, showing the boy his own square.

“Ah-ha-ha-ha!” The boy laughed hysterically, whilst Red sighed. He had had enough of everyone laughing at him that day.

“Tell me what’s funny!” Red ordered, and the boy looked at him seriously.

“My granddad said he had given the Pokedex to someone! Turns out it was you! Ha ha ha!”

“Granddad? Professor Oak is your Grandpa?!?

“Yeah, but why he gave a Pokedex to you I don’t know! Besides, that’s not important! I’ll show you how to battle properly!”

Red remembered the terrifying Kangaskhan, and looked up to see it badly hurt by the Charmander. It had its back half turned, and was holding its hand over its pouch.

“Charmander, Final Blow!” The boy ordered, and the Charmander jumped up, and opened its mouth, as a long line of fire erupted from it.

“KANGASK-HAAAN!” The injured Pokemon roared, as Charmander finished its brutal attack.

“That should do it!” The boy smiled, taking a PokeBall from his pocket. “You’re mine now!”

The boy threw the Ball towards the Kangaskhan’s chest, but the Pokemon reflected it with her arm.

“O-okay! One more, then!” The boy stumbled, as threw another PokeBall at her head. Again, she raised her arm up, to reflect the PokeBall.

“What? Why won’t it go into my PokeBall?” The boy asked himself, as Red thought aloud.

“There’s something wrong. It’s strong enough to repel the PokeBall…but it’s not attacking…plus it’s guarding its…I got it! You, stop the attack!” Red ordered the boy.

“The Pokemon is mine! Don’t think you’ll steal it!” The boy growled angrily, as the Charmander continued to attack the giant Pokemon.

“You don’t understand, it’s -”

“I don’t care, it’s mine! Charmander, fight on!”

“Oh just get out of my way!” Red mustered his strength, and pushed the boy out of his way. Nyoro stood up, and ran next to Red.

“Nyoro! Water Gun on the annoying Charmander, now!”

Nyoro leapt up and attacked the Charmander, who squealed in pain. It slumped to the floor, and the boy marched up to Red furiously.

“What do you think you’re doing? That’s my Pokemon!”

“Are you okay?” Red asked the Kangaskhan, ignoring the boy’s angry complaints.

“Kangask-han….” The Pokemon answered weakly.

“Is your baby…is it all right?”

“What are you doing?” The other boy whispered, as Red opened the pouch. Charmander went to get back up, but Nyoro glared at it, and it quickly scampered over to its owner.

Red watched, as something in the pouch scrambled around. Suddenly, a baby the size of Red poked out, crying, and red.

“You’re hurt…did a Poison Pokemon get you?” Red asked sympathetically, as he inspected a large purple bump swelling on its head.

“Have some Antidote, that should help,” said Red, as he grabbed a syringe from his bag. He pushed it into the baby Kangaskhan’s arm, and suddenly, the swelling began to get smaller, and smaller, until it was gone entirely.

“You’re all better!” Red chirped, as the mother Kangaskhan clapped and smiled.

“No wonder you protected your middle,” Red said to the mother, “if your baby got hurt, it could have been badly injured.”

“Kangaskhan!” It agreed, and with one last smile, the enormous Pokemon strode back into the trees.

“Thanks a lot!” The boy sulked, as Red spun round. “If you hadn’t butted in, I could have captured it…”

“Come on, dude! You know it isn’t really winning, if your enemy has a disadvantage!”

“Whatever…” the boy said, but he knew Red was right. “Just save your slogans for someone who cares. Charmander, return!”

The boy pocketed his Charmander, and began to walk away from the forest.

“Hey, wait up!” Red called out, and Nyoro followed him quickly.

“What?” The boy hissed, as Red stood in front of him.

“My name’s Red! What’s yours?”

“Blue. My name is Blue. Now shut up, go home, and leave me alone!”

“Blue…got ya…but remember this, before you go. I’m not going to lose to you Blue, y’hear? I’m gonna win!”

“Whatever, Red…” Blue smirked, as he walked past Red and his Poliwhirl. He smiled to himself, as he got further and further away. Red lowered his head, and returned Nyoro to his PokeBall. He walked off confidently in the other direction, and from a distance, two eyes watched from the safety of the trees.

“Ah, my grandson, and my new discovery! Who will become the Pokemon Master? Good luck to you both.”

Pokemon Special: The Novelisation
Book One: The Red Blue Green Saga

A/N: Red nicknames Bulbasaur Fusshii, and meets up with the boy who he fought the Phantom Pokemon with, who is called Blue. Red saves a Kangaskhan from Blue, and they part ways.

Chapter Four: Vs. Pikachu

Red had finally reached Pewter City, after a long and tiring walk through the night. As he first noticed the city over the horizon, he expected the city to be a lively, busy and overcrowded place. However, as he ran nearer and nearer to Pewter, there didn’t seem to be much life in the streets.

“Where is everyone?” Red breathed, as he walked through the quiet town. It was nearing afternoon, and yet there was nobody on the streets. He passed an alleyway with a couple of Rattata’s, and the town market, but even the people guarding the stools seemed to be floating away.

Suddenly, a tall and lanky man sprinted past Red, looking very angry. Red spun round and chased after him down the road.

“Excuse me!” Red called, as he tried to keep up with the man. “Where is everyone?”

The man pushed Red, and he was sent tumbling to the floor.

“Hey! Any need for pushing me? Loser!” Red shouted angrily, but then, there was a large booming sound coming from the opposite direction. Red looked behind his shoulder, and saw a large dust cloud.

“What the hell?” a confused Red stated, but behind the dust cloud, emerged what looked like most of the residents of Pewter City.

“Get it!”

“Hurry!”

“Don’t stop!”

Red gasped, as the group charged forward, nets in hand.

“They’re coming straight at me!” He gawped, as the whole crowd ran over him.

“Ouch! Ow! Ooh! OOF!” Red was knocked about the road, as dozens and dozens of people charged past him. He watched, as a little boy trailing behind stepped on his back, causing Red to howl in pain.

“Watch it!” Red threatened, as the little boy scampered away. “What were you all chasing anyway?”

A piece of paper fluttered past Red, with a yellow picture on it. Red snatched it before it got away, and read it aloud to himself.

“Wanted, Pikachu. Mischievous Pokemon wanted. Handsome reward.”

Red smirked, and found the energy to stand up.

“So that’s what all this fuss is about. Guess I could lend them a hand!”

***

“We’ve got you now, pest!” A man grunted, as a group of people circled around him. They were all facing a wall, where the small, yellow Pikachu was sitting.

“That is the last time you eat my produce!” another man smirked. “GET IT!”

Everyone lunged at the Pikachu, but the small creature scampered through their legs. It ran towards a fruit stand, where it grabbed an apple and started chewing on it.

“Pika Pika!” It cried out in happiness, as a man with messed up hair, and a net crept behind him. He swiped his net, and caught the Pikachu.

“Gotcha! Pikachu, you’ll never terrorise this city again!”

Everyone cheered, but the Pikachu wasn’t happy. It curled up into a ball, and with one, loud ‘Pika’, it electrocuted the man, sending him flying into a wall.

“It’s getting away again!” A woman bellowed, as the Pikachu threw away the chewed apple, and ran towards the City Centre. Red watched from behind the crowd, throwing a PokeBall from hand to hand.

“I can’t watch anymore of this! I’m going in!”

Red ran forward, and barged through the crowd, as they stopped around the Centre, the Pikachu eyeing them all up.

“Fusshii, go!” Red shouted out, as he reached the front of the crowd, where he threw the PokeBall up into the air. A crackling blue energy emerged from the Ball, taking the shape of a Bulbasaur. Five seconds later, Fusshii was pawing its feet, getting ready to strike.

“Bulbasaur, use Sleep - ARGH!”

An electric shock charged through Red and Fusshii, as the townsfolk screamed.

“It’s no use! The boys useless!” An elderly woman cried out at the front of the crowd. Smoke surrounded, what looked like a bent over Red, and a stooping Bulbasaur. As the smoke cleared, a confident Pikachu frowned - his opponents were still standing.

“Fusshii! Sleep Powder!” Red ordered. Fusshii obeyed, and through the top of his bulb, came, a small, rounded seed. Fusshii growled, as it flew towards Pikachu.

“Pika?” It asked, as the seed opened in mid-air. “Pika!”

Hundreds of small dots burst out of the seed, showering Pikachu. His eyes became slits as he tried to attack back, but he became drowsy and tired, and dropped to the ground.

“Wooh! Perfect! Start with Sleep Powder, finish with this!” Red grabbed an empty PokeBall, and threw it at Pikachu’s unmoving body. It bounced off his head, then opened wide. Pikachu turned into blue energy, and transferred to the PokeBall.

“That is how it’s done!” Red cheered, as he held up the PokeBall in the air. The crowd boomed with cheers and congratulations, as Red and Fusshii smiled for the people. Fusshii looked up at Red.

“Bulba, Bulbasaur…” It said, as a last crackle of electricity around its bulb fused.

“I know, Fusshii. We’ll get you better, don’t you worry!”

***

“Young man, you saved us! That Pikachu was ruining our business!”

Red was in a large hut, eating lots and lots of food. He wolfed it down between questions.

“Where are you from?” A middle-aged man with blonde hair asked excitedly.

“Pallet Town!”

“What brought you here?”

Red put down his fork, and looked around in his coat pocket. He extracted his Pokedex, and opened it up. A small fact file on Pikachu came up, and everyone gasped in amazement.

“So, according to this, Pikachu came from Viridian Forest to settle here! What an awesome device!”

“Not yet!” Red exclaimed. “There’s more than a hundred different types of Pokemon. My goal is to get data on every single type, and complete the Pokedex!”

Whilst Red showed everyone the Dex, a small crackle of electricity emerged from his pocket. He grabbed Pikachu’s PokeBall - he was desperately trying to get out.

“What’s with this Pikachu? “ He asked, as it stared at him evilly.

“Fine, okay!”

***

The sun was setting, and Red and Pikachu, which he had nicknamed Pika, were sitting down in a field of grass just outside Pewter.

“Now, Pikachu! You have to behave!” Red scolded, but the Pikachu sent three sparks through his hand.

“Ow! Come on, Pika! Don’t be stubborn! Why can’t we try to be friends?”

Pikachu closed his eyes, and looked away. Red sighed, and reached forward, only to be sent back by a massive bolt of electricity.

“Argh! Pika, you may look cute, but…”

“You’re taking it easy, aren’t you, Red?”

Red’s eyes widened - he knew that voice, and it was one he didn’t want to hear when he was being electrocuted.

“Blue!” Red exclaimed, as the boy stood over him.

“I’m embarrassed to have you as a rival for this quest!” Blue smirked, and Red stood up immediately.

“What was that, huh? Are you calling me weak, Blue! Are you?”

“Maybe, why? You gonna fight me?” Blue threatened, knowing Red would accept.

Pika watched, as the two rivals reached for their PokeBalls. Blue found a PokeBall first.

“Let me warn you, though, Red. The towns gym leader, Brock, is looking for someone competent to fight him. I intend to do just that, and in doing so, win the Boulder Badge!”

“T-The Boulder Badge?” an astonished Red asked, and Blue chuckled.

“You mean you don’t know? The Boulder Badge boosts the attack power of your Pokemon. Every trainer knows that!”

Red turned a deep red colour, and was close to punching Blue. Pika electrocuted him again, to stop him from doing something stupid.

“So this is my challenge! We’ll see who can get the Boulder Badge first. Of course, it won’t be much of a match, if you can’t even train an electric mouse!” Blue laughed, as Red cursed under his breath.

“I’ll take that challenge!” Red sneered. “You’ll regret it too!”

“Don’t make me laugh, Red! Oh, and one more thing! Brock is a Rock Type Pokemon Trainer. Your stupid little Pikachu will stand no chance!”

Blue took a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket, and threw it towards Red.

“Good luck losing, termite!” He laughed, as he walked off into Pewter City.

“What a jerk…” Red cursed, sitting back down on the grass. Pika crawled next to him. Red began to read the piece of paper.

“So the next challenge is tomorrow at noon…I’ll be there.” Red turned to his Pika. “Blue will be so sorry that he ever challenged me! Isn’t that right, Pika?”

Pika looked up at him, then rolled over on the grass.

“Whoops, I almost forgot. The Pokemon I have with me are low on health.”

Red grabbed Nyoro and Fusshii’s PokeBalls, and examined them. Nyoro still had small bruises, and a few cuts on his face, and Fusshii was still recovering from the electric shock.

“First thing tomorrow morning, I’ll get you guys to a Pokemon Centre!”

***

“What?” Red gasped, as he fought threw another crowd standing around the Pokemon Centre. The walls were cracking, and there was graffiti everywhere. On the door was a notice.

Our centre was damaged yesterday night by unknown vandals. We will reopen when our machines are running again. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

“No way…this means, the only one with full power is Pika!” Red drooped, as he looked at Pika’s PokeBall. The small mouse was still being stubborn. Red sighed, as he traipsed towards the Gym, Pika folding his arms and glaring at Red all the way there.

I still say you need to describe what's going on more.

"Pikachu closed his eyes, and looked away. Red sighed, and reached forward, only to be sent back by a massive bolt of electricity.

“Argh! Pika, you may look cute, but…”
"

For example, you could've described how Red looked once he was zapped by Pika.

Sorry this chapter was so late, I've been busy on my other story which is on a different website, and I've only just made time for this...

A/N: Red captures a rogue Pikachu, and nicknames it Pika. Red learns of the Gym Leader Challenge, and with a weakened Nyoro and Fusshii, he must enter with only his stubborn Pikachu at full health.

Chapter Five: Vs. Onix

Red bounded through the streets at breakneck speed, panting to a steady rhythm. He ran straight through the open roof Gym’s entrance, skidding round a corner. He ran straight ahead, and looked both ways. Down one pathway was a row of doors, and down the other was a doorway, leading into an enormous coliseum. He caught his breath again, and sprinted down. He ran into the coliseum just in time to see a Charmeleon taking down an Onix breathlessly - and saw the boy behind him.

“Blue…” Red breathed quietly…as the man returned his Pokemon to its PokeBall. The triumphant boy returned his confident Charmeleon to his own PokeBall, and strutted off the stage to the sound of cheers and squeals.

“B-Block Preliminaries will start now,” a female voice over a giant intercom instructed. Red snapped back to reality, and ran over to the registration desk.

“My name is Red, Number 1!” He told the woman behind the desk, and she scribbled down some notes on a sheet of paper.

“Okay Red, you’re up first. Go up to the stage, where your opponent will meet you.”

Red nodded, and bravely walked forward. He bent down, and climbed through the ropes. He brushed off his knees, and stood up as straight as he could, as the crowd applauded. He waved hesitantly, before turning to face his rival. His face was straight and angular, and he had great muscles. He towered above Red, and next to him, was a freakishly tall Graveler, smirking evilly.

‘Pika is my only guy at full health…but he’s useless against electric…’ Red thought to himself quickly, as he looked at the PokeBalls on his belt. ‘I’m gonna have to go with these two…I’m gonna lose…’

“Nyoro, you’re up!” Red called, as he threw the weak Poliwhirl’s PokeBall up in the air.

“Is that it?” The muscular man snorted. “Your Poliwhirl doesn’t look up to much. Has it got any health left?” He mocked, his Graveler standing forward confidently. Nyoro looked up at Red with his big eyes; which had turned horribly red and wrinkly since the last time Red had seen him. The boy nodded encouragingly, and Nyoro scampered forward a little.

“GO!” The referee shouted, and Red immediately called for Nyoro.

“Let’s win it with the first attack, Nyoro! Ice Beam - NOW!”

The weak Poliwhirl ran forward, and blew out from its chest. A wide beam of ice shot forwards, hitting the tall Graveler across the face. Suddenly, it began expanding around Graveler. Soon, the Pokemon was trapped in a massive ice block, and the whistle was blown. Everyone cheered, as the bodybuilder lugged his Graveler off the stage.

“Come on Nyoro…we can’t get hit once…or else we’re doomed…”

***

“That kid showed me something…” a man in the commentary box thought aloud. “He’s only got two of the things…but his water and grass Pokemon are really hitting hard on the other trainers…the punk has got strategy!”

“Red goes through to battle Brock!” The intercom blared out, and everyone cheered for the exhausted boy.

“Finally, an opponent worthy of me!” The man smiled, as his Pokemon surrounded him. He turned away from the box, heading down for battle.

***

“C’mon Pika! Nyoro and Fusshii are tired!” Red whined at his Pikachu, as he crouched outside the entrance of the Gym. Nyoro had fainted in his PokeBall, and Fusshii was wheezing unhealthily.

“Just do it this once, okay?”

“Pika!” The Pikachu cried through his PokeBall, and turned his head away. Red cursed under his breath, and released Pikachu. The confused Pokemon was scooped up, and marched towards the stage.

***

“Here is our competitor, Red!”

Red climbed through the ropes, and set down Pika on the stage. Brock watched on, his arms crossed, his towering Onix standing behind him. Red stood up, as Pika looked around curiously.

“Pika…” Red breathed, and the yellow mouse snapped back to the battle. Red sighed in relief, as Brock raised an eyebrow.

“GO!” The referee shouted, and Brock looked at Red.

“Where’s your famous first attack, Red?” He asked seriously, as Red turned the colour of his name. Pika was refusing to even look at his opponents.

“Fine then…” Brock said tiredly, “I’ll go first! Rock throw!”

The Onix opened its mouth wide, as half a dozen rocks blasted out. Red cringed as a rock hurtled towards his Pikachu. Suddenly, the reluctant mouse stepped to the side of the rock, and leapt up another one, pushing back into the ropes. He ducked underneath another rock, and jumped onto the rope to get rid of the fourth. Like a small expert, he turned to the side quickly, as the penultimate rock pelted towards his face. Pika scampered down to Red’s feet, who was near to hyperventilating.

“Pika!” He said proudly, as the final rock zoomed towards him. Suddenly, the rock hit Pika across the face, and the crowd all made an ‘aww’ noise in unison. The poor mouse had a giant bruise on the front of its face, and Brock sneered as it looked like Pika was going to faint. Red put his hands over his mouth, as Pika struggled to stay standing. The weak electric mouse turned around slowly, and stared at Red. As if by magic, Pika screamed out, and hit Red with a powerful bolt of electricity. Brock suddenly became angry, as Red shouted at Pika.

“So your wins were just dumb luck?” He roared violently, unfolding his arms. “My Onix uses its body like a tornado! The speed of its revolution sets off unstoppable shock waves…which I like to call…”

Onix rose up in the air, as Red and Pika watched on like scared pigs going to slaughter. The Onix began to fall, and its head was heading towards Pika’s much smaller one.

“SKULL BASH!”

Red dived out of the way, but Pika stood his ground bravely. He listened for the sound of Onix hitting his rebel Pikachu, but it never came. Red opened his eyes slowly, to see Pika shaking fiercely. He had moved out of the way at the last moment, and Red saw he looked worried.

“I’m sorry Pika…I shouldn’t have put you through this…you don’t have to fight for me. I’m sorry I forced you into this whole thing…” Red apologised, as Brock loomed over him, his Onix raging like a mad Tauros.

Pika remembered back to the day before, when Red asked him to be friends. His eyes widened, and he looked at Red defiantly.

“Onix, skull bash once more!”

Pika jumped over Red’s crouched body, and faced Onix’s fast approaching head. He curled up inside a ball, as the Onix went in for the final blow. Suddenly, he glowed with electricity, and he uncurled himself quickly. Two large bolts of electricity erupted from his red cheeks, pummelling Onix into the other side of the stage. All of its rocks making up its body shattered simultaneously, as Brock cried out. The shattered Pika staggered on its small paws, but Red caught him in his hands. Pika smiled up, as Brock fell to the ground next to them. The crowd erupted into cheers and squeals, as the referee climbed into the stage. He grabbed Red’s arm, and pulled it into the air.

“The winner…RED!”

Red smiled as in his other hand, Pika smiled at him. The small yellow Pokemon closed its eyes, and fell asleep in Red’s palm. He smiled sweetly as his fainted Pokemon, before turning to clap with the crowd.

***

“So it turned out only me and Blue got the Boulder Badge…”

Red was sitting on a patch of grass in Pewter City Park. Fusshii, Pika and Nyoro were sitting next to him, fully healthy after spending an hour in the Pokemon Centre.

“Thanks Pika for helping me.” Red gazed at his grey badge proudly, as it glinted dully in the twilight. “I couldn’t do it without you…”

Pika closed his eyes ignorantly, as Nyoro and Fusshii stared at Red, as if to tell him to do something.

“Pika…these are Nyoro and Fusshii, and they’re both good friends of mine. If you want, you can join us on our trip. We’d love to have you on the team!” Red said gleefully, and Nyoro and Fusshii nodded in agreement. Pika opened his eyes slowly, as Red smiled at him.

“Shake on it, Pika?” Red outstretched his hand, and Pika held out his short one. As soon as the two hands contacted, Pika’s eyes turned into slits. Nyoro and Fusshii stepped back, as suddenly, an electric shock pumped through Red.

“Pikachu! What’s the big idea!” Red growled, as the happy mouse chased him around the park. “I thought we were getting somewhere!”

The fierce wind blew through the countryside, as a girl in her late teens struggled through the grassy land surrounded by hills and rockeries. She was covered in scratches and bruises, but the look on her face was determined. She took one last stagger to join her faithful Pokemon take on the fierce, enraging beast before them.

“Why won’t you give up…?” The girl breathed, as the giant, blue, dragon-like Pokemon loomed over her. The beast opened its wide mouth, and aimed for the girl and her one Pokemon.

“Star, he’s doing Hydro Beam! Get out of the way!” The girl screamed as an enormous blast of water erupted from the monsters mouth. The girl quickly dived to the side, but her Staryu stayed where it was, taking the attack head-on. The red-head watched as her star Pokemon fell to the floor feebly.

“Star!” She crawled over to where the poor Pokemon sat, in a giant puddle of water. Angrily she stood up and faced the enemy Pokemon.

The girl had her ginger hair tied up in a side ponytail, with a black boob tube, and short blue denim shorts. Her red shoes were tearing and sodden, and the bracelet around her wrist was forming a small crack through the middle.

“You evil monster, you…”

“You’re taking on a pretty big one, aren’t you?”

The girl spun round slowly, to see a boy with a red waistcoat walk up to her confidently. “For such a frail girl like you, this must be getting pretty difficult!”

Red ran forward to join the mysterious girl, and grabbed a PokeBall from his belt.

“No, stay back kid! This is dangerous!”

“I’ll be fine! I’m not just a typical boy, I’m a Pokemon Trainer, and a good one at that! Fusshii, GO!”

The small Bulbasaur stared confidently at the raging Pokemon, daring it to fight him.

“One more thing, before I begin! My name is not ‘kid’, it’s Red!”

The girl looked carefully at Red, to see he wasn’t scared. Even his Bulbasaur was preparing itself for an attack. Then, she looked up at the Pokemon before them.

“Watch out, it’s Hydro Pump!”

Red grinned, as the blast of water zoomed towards Fusshii rapidly. The water splashed straight off Fusshii’s bulb, splashing straight onto the grass behind him. He shook his head happily, and splashed his paws in the small puddle before him.

“Is your Pokemon…smiling?” The bewildered girl asked.

“Well, no water attack is gonna hurt my grass type Pokemon!” Red shrugged, as if this should be second nature to everyone. The girl sighed, and stared wistfully at her Staryu, who was splashing around weakly.

“Now it’s our turn to do damage! Fusshii, attack!”

Fusshii turned his bulb toward the Pokemon, and fired a single seed. The seed planted itself in the Pokemon’s large neck, and quite suddenly, a long vine wrapped itself around the Pokemon, digging into its tough skin.

“Gyara! Gyara!” The Pokemon roared, as the seeds slowly took away his health.

“Leech Seed?” The girl asked Red uncertainly.

“That’s the one!” Red replied enthusiastically, watching the Pokemon struggle.

“Now’s our chance, Staryu!” The girl encouraged her star Pokemon. “Recover!” The Staryu stood up on its two star shaped legs, as small, silver stars swirled around her. The stars dissolved into nothingness, and the Staryu was flying towards Fusshii.

“Forget Leech Seed - that’s a cool attack!” Red laughed, as the girl blushed happily. The vines snapped around the Pokemon, and it roared in anger.

“Shall we try teaming up?” Red asked confidently, as the girl looked at him.

“We shall!”

“Fusshii!”

“Star!”

“Vine Whip!”

“Bubblebeam!”

Bulbasaur’s strongest attack was unleashed; thick vines wrapped around the Pokemon, tugging into his body harshly. At the same time the Staryu’s Bubblebeam attack hit the Pokemon all over with a path of hard-hitting bubbles. The Pokemon roared in agony this time; Red knew this was his chance.

“Now for the PokeBall!” Red threw it at the monster, and it bounced off his head. The Ball opened, and soon the Pokemon was turned into blue energy, tucked away inside the PokeBall.

“I got him! Oh yeah!” Red cheered, as he looked at the Pokemon happily. The girl fell to her knees instantly, panting like a dog.

“Thanks for your help…um…”

“One last time, it’s Red!”

The girl nodded in thanks, as Red moved the Ball around in his hands.

“I didn’t expect to see such a big Pokemon in here of all places! Was it wild or was it -”

“Gyarados, is a water Pokemon. It is not supposed to live in hilly areas like these…”

“I already figured that!” Red sighed, folding his arms. “Why was it here then?”

“The Gyarados isn’t wild. It’s my Pokemon…” the girl explained embarrassingly, and Red jumped up.

“You what?!?”

“I was raising it until last week in Cerulean‘s Lake, but when I went back to my house to get something, somebody stole it. When it came back today, it wasn’t the nice Gyarados I knew. I followed it, which wasn’t hard…it did destroy everything in its path…anyway, thanks partly to you, everything is okay n-”

“It is not okay! It’s never okay when a Pokemon goes berserk! The dudes who stole Gyarados must have done it!”

Red and Fusshii turned around, and began to walk off stubbornly.

“Where do you think you’re going?” The girl demanded, as her and Star tried to keep up.

“To find who did this -” Red made a stupid face, “-to this!” He shoved the PokeBall holding Gyarados into the girls face. “Those thieves…where did you say they were?” Red asked.

“If I knew that, don’t you think I’d be there?” The girl said sarcastically.

“Hey! Maybe the professor knows something…” Red thought out loud.

“Who’s the professor?”

***
Red and the girl walked into the Pokemon Centre in the hilly area - a small unit, with a few dorms for trainers sleeping overnight. Red ran over to the computer, and logged in on his profile. He clicked on ‘VideoCam’, and selected a name off the list. The girl watched, as a video came up on the file, to show Professor Oak smiling back at them.

“Hello, Red! Been a while!” Oak greeted happily.

“That’s Professor Oak,” Red explained to the girl. “He’s the worlds leading expert on Pokemon!”

Oak blushed, as the girl nodded in understanding. “How is your Pokedex coming on, Red?” He asked.

“Very well, Professor! In fact, I got some new data, today! Take a look…”

Red put the Pokedex up to the screen, showing Gyarados’s profile.

“A high tech Pokemon encyclopaedia…a Pokedex?” The girl asked.

Professor Oak began to rattle on about Gyarados, as Red explained the Dex to the girl.

“Whenever I catch a Pokemon, its data automatically gets inputted. My goal is to input all data on all Pokemon!”

“…evolves from Magikarp, learns certain moves like Hydro…” The Professor went on, despite anyone listening to him.

“I’ll have to fight wild Pokemon, and tough trainers on the way…but I’ll be a top Pokemon Trainer myself with one of these…”

“…thus, clearly…”

“Professor! I need to ask you something!” Red remembered, and he and the girl went back to the VideoCam.

“What is it, boy?” Professor Oak asked quickly, peering into the camera.

Red explained the entire situation to Oak, including the battle, and how hard it was to take down.

“Hmm…so after a week, the Pokemon refuses to listen to his Trainer…sounds like the actions of Team Rocket!”

“Who?” Red and the girl asked in unison.

“You don’t know? Team Rocket are a secret society using Pokemon for evil! Recently, rumours have been flying round saying they’re conducting lab experiments on Pokemon…”

“That’s cruelty! That’s not right!” The girl breathed angrily.

“Upsetting, I know, but if you want to help, there is something you can do. Just to your east, is Mount Moon, Red. In Mount Moon, there is rumoured to be a Moon Stone. A stone, they say, to boost the power of a Pokemon enormously! Enough to evolve a Pokemon, the other Pokemon Professors say! Of course, it’s likely Rocket will be after this stone…”

Red nodded, as Professor Oak finished his speech.

“Thanks, Professor, I’ll check it out! Bye!” Red shut down VideoCam, and ran for the door.

“Where are you going now?” The girl asked, running to keep up.

“Right now, the Pokedex isn’t my top priority - the Moon Stone is! I’m gonna go to Mount Moon, and find it, and then kick Team Rocket’s asses…”

“I’m going with you!” The girl blurted out, and Red stopped running.

“No, you’re not! You’re too weak - Team Rocket will capture your Pokemon after they beat you senseless!” Red argued.

“Don’t be stupid, Pink!”

“It‘s Red!”

“Whatever…besides, Mount Moon is on the way to my home town, and if I go with, I’m bound to meet some trainers I know on the way! They might be able to tell us some info on Team Rocket!”

“Wait a minute, girl, how are you going to get through with your Pokemon? You have Staryu, but your Gyarados is still evil!”

The girl chuckled, and reached into her shorts pockets. From each pocket, she bought out three PokeBalls, all containing Pokemon.

“You were saying?” She teased, as Red fell silent.

“I’m a water Pokemon Trainer. The caves in the mountain are full of rock Pokemon, so I think I can hold my own just fine!” The girl said. Red rolled his eyes, not accepting defeat, but the girl held out her hand.

“I forgot to introduce myself, my name is Misty!”

Red took Misty’s hand, and shook it. He let go abruptly, and blushed, but Misty just laughed at him.

“Full speed ahead, Red! To Mount Moon we go!”

Red and Misty laughed, as they sprinted towards a giant cave in the distance.

A/N: Red and Misty battle a Gyarados captured and released by Team Rocket, and head to Mount Moon to find a Moon Stone for Professor Oak.

Chapter Seven: Vs. Rhydon

Five Team Rocket members surrounded the entrance to Mount Moon, making sure no-one got in. A Rocket with a particularly pointy nose, and short black hair, grabbed a walky-talky from his pocket.

“Now monitoring cave interior co-ordinates A-5. Still no sign of the Moon Stone,” the Rocket reported into the talky, waiting for a reply.

“Understood. Keep up your search, and if anyone dares to interfere, meet them with extreme force!” The voice crackled back, and the pointy nosed-man grinned evilly.

***

Misty raced ahead, Red trying to keep up. Her age as well as her longer legs gave her a boost Red didn’t have, and he was seriously considering letting Pika electrocute his butt so he could rocket ahead of Misty.

“Just over this hill…Red…is Mount…Moon!” Misty panted, as she practically crawled up the hill. Red followed, but when Misty reached the top, she fell to her stomach, and slid back down the hill. Red snorted, as he watched Misty stop herself on a gaping rock.

“What are you doing?” Red whispered, as Misty slowly crawled around the hill face. She popped her head up over the hill, and quickly did a forward roll into a bush. Red shrugged, and followed her, but he got stuck midway through his roll.

“Red, you stupid --” Misty stopped in the middle of her sentence, as the Rockets turned around, where they would see Red stuck on his head. She quickly grabbed a boulder, and chucked it into bush in the opposite direction.

“Over there!” One of the Rockets commanded, and they all trooped off.

“Now Red!” Misty hissed, as she took off into the Mountain. Red unscrambled himself, and followed after.

“Team Rocket, right?” Red whispered, as they disappeared into the darkness. “I can’t believe they fell for that stupid trick…”

“It’s a bit dark in here…oh!” Misty ducked, as a Zubat, a blue bat Pokemon whizzed over her head.

“Lemme handle it, Misty. Pika, let’s go!” Red threw Pika’s PokeBall up into the air, and the small mouse appeared. He landed on Misty’s shoulder, and nudged her neck affectionately.

“Aww, hey cutie!” Misty exclaimed, scratching Pika. “Is this a Pikachu?”

“Noo… it’s Mickey Mouse!” Red replied sarcastically.

“It doesn’t look happy to be here…” Misty pointed out.

“Eh, life’s tough. But it’s one talented little -”

Pika suddenly lit up the cavern with his electricity, and jumped over to Red’s shoulder. Misty grinned, and walked off down the cavern path.

***

“Once I left Pallet Town, I went into the West Forest and -- ouch!”

Misty looked up, as Red rubbed his back. He had backed into a silvery rock.

“Stupid rock! Why, I ought to -”

“Red, look up!”

Red slowly turned around, following Misty’s shaky finger. He shook with fright, as two large eyes stared out at him from the rock. Pika, who was walking side by side to Misty, lit up the whole room with his electricity. The trio were surrounded by a bunch of Rockets, and the rock with eyes was actually a Pokemon. A Rocket with a scarf around his neck stepped forward.

“What do we have here? Tom Sawyer and Little Becky in a cave!”

Pika jumped onto Red’s cap, leering at the Rockets. Misty crouched behind them both, shivering. Red tried to do his bravest face.

“You’re Team Rocket, aren’t you?” Red demanded viciously.

“Correct, little boy! I’m flattered that you know us, really. Know who are you?”

“I guess I own you an answer there…but you’re gonna have to beat me for it! Pika, attack!”

Pika leapt off his cap, and ran at full speed towards the Rhyhorn and the Rockets.

“Rhyhorn, Rock Throw!”

Red remembered how much of a bruise Pika got when the same attack was used against him when they fought Brock. This time, the six rocks were much faster, and much stronger, and every single one hit Pika directly.

“Pika!” Misty cried, as the poor Pokemon was sent flying into a bed of small rocks. Red and Misty held their breaths, as the rocks began to twitch. Suddenly, Pika burst through the rocks, sending them flying. He grounded his feet, and threw an electric charge at them. They went flying straight into Rhyhorn’s face, sending him back a few inches.

“Rhyyyyyyydon!”

“Pika, you look cute, but you are so damn tough!” Red cheered, making Misty cringe.

“Aww…little Pokemon…takes me back to my childhood…” The Rocket leader smiled dreamily. “However, that’s been and gone. Now then little kids -”

“I’m fifteen, actually…” Misty sighed.

“Now’s a taste of adult reality!” The Rocket leader pulled a syringe from his belt, shocking Red and Misty. Red quickly grabbed Pika away, but the leader laughed. Suddenly, he sent the syringe straight into Rhyhorn’s neck, and there was a blinding flash of white light. Suddenly, the bipedal creature was on two feet, with a giant horn coming out of its head. His eyes were bigger and more menacing, sending shivers through Red and Misty’s spines.

“Your Rhyhorn…it evolved into a Rhydon!” Misty pointed out the obvious, shaking terribly. The Rocket leader laughed, as Misty suddenly realised.

“Wait a minute! You did this to Gyarados, didn’t you?”

“Like we remember every Pokemon we test on!” The leader laughed cruelly.

“You evil monsters!” Misty cried, throwing a PokeBall into the air. “Star, attack!”

Staryu fired out its Bubblebeam, as strong as it could. The bubbles sent the Rhydon inching back, trying to protect itself from the beam of water.

“It’s working, Misty! Keep it up, Star!” Red clapped, but the Rocket leader grinned.

“Rhydon, Horn Drill!” He commanded, as the Bubblebeam wore off. Red and Misty ducked, as he ran past, digging his horn into the cavern wall.

“Misty!” Red shouted, as suddenly, the cave began to crumble around them. Dust clouds formed and swept across, knocking Misty away from Red. He held onto a rock tight, as Pika and Star blew past him. The dust clouds stopped, and so did the insane noise. Red thumped to the floor hard, to see the wall had collapsed behind him. Misty was slung against it, Star next to her. Pika had managed to grab hold of the floor, and was scampering towards Red slowly.

“Misty! You’re gonna pay for this!” Red roared angrily, as the Rocket leader laughed him off. The other Rockets had scampered away in the mess.

“Maybe in another lifetime, chump!” The Rocket leader teased, his Rhydon still ready to battle.

“Oh yeah! Pikachu, do your best!” Red shouted. Pika leapt forward, but suddenly, a strong, grey foot began to stamp down on him. Pika suddenly froze in mid-leap, allowing the foot to engulf him.

“Puny Pikachu! Now, Rhydon, destroy the boy!” The Rocket leader chuckled confidently, as Rhydon was about to step forward. Pika was still underneath his foot, struggling to stand.

“C’mon, Pika! One more attack, go!” Red ordered, and Pika began to charge up an electric shock.

“Your Pikachu isn’t doing anything! Admit defeat!”

Suddenly, Pika screeched with power, sending a massive electric current around Rhydon’s body.

“Rhydon!” It cried out, as Pika continued his attack. Suddenly, his attack failed, and Rhydon stamped down on the ground. The earthquake sent Pika flying. Quickly, Red saw his chance.

“Nyoro, quickly!” Red whispered sending out his Poliwhirl. Red grabbed Misty’s limp body, and dragged her past Koga, who was too busy concentrating on Pika to notice. Nyoro placed Staryu on his back, and followed Red. Pika looked down to see Red getting away. He quickly landed on the floor, and scampered under Rhydon’s feet. The beast Pokemon turned around, as Pika ran underneath the Rocket leader’s legs. Then, the evil man saw Red and Nyoro getting the others to safety.

“Quick, Rhydon! Attack before they get away!”

Fortunately, Pika attacked first, sending an electric bolt at the ceiling. Just as the man and his Rhydon went to grab Pika, the giant rock separated them, trapping them in between the two shattered walls. Pika joined Red, who smiled weakly, as he struggled to pick up Misty. Pika looked around to make sure the wall was still holding away the enemies, when a small glint attracted him back…

***

“Where am I…?” Red lugged Misty out of the exit to Mount Moon, as she opened her eyes slowly. “Why are you groping me?” She roared at Red, punching him in the face harshly. Red passed out with the pain, whilst Nyoro, Star, and Pika sighed.

***

“You should have seen me in there, Misty! Me and Pika sent those Rockets into oblivion? Then, we grabbed you and…Misty?”

Red stood back, to see Misty walking along glumly.

“What’s up?” Red asked quickly.

“Well, without the Moon Stone, our amazing adventure was pretty useless,” Misty sighed.

“Actually…just as we got away…Pika found something, and, well…” Red reached into his pocket, as Misty’s eyes grew wider. He bought out a small, square stone, with a moon engraved in it.

“The Moon Stone!” Misty smiled, as Red pocketed it again.

“Now come on, and let’s use this thing!” Red laughed, as the two friends raced through the fields, laughing with relief all the way.

A/N: Red and Misty travel through Mount Moon, and encounter a leader of Team Rocket. Using Pika and Nyoro, Red manages to save Misty and the Moon Stone from the clutches of Team Rocket.

Chapter Eight: Vs. Starmie

“This is a joke, right?”

Red and Misty looked over Cerulean City. After a day of travelling, they had finally made it to Misty’s home town. They were standing on a street, supported by stilts, over a long canal. Boats were busily bobbing along. There was no roads here - everyone travelled by water. Red and Misty were standing in front of a huge manor, Misty grinning happily.

“There is no way this is your house!” Red cried unbelievably.

“I’m afraid it is!” Misty laughed, as ten maids ran out of the great wooden door.

“Welcome home, Lady Misty!” The maids cheered in unison, as Red and Misty walked forward. The maids bustled around Misty, whilst Red stood on his own lamely.

“Your ladyship is dirty!” A blonde maid gasped, looking at the mud patches and scratches over Misty’s arms and legs. Misty laughed, before grabbing Red’s arm, and leading him up the giant stairs.

“I want you to meet somebody, girls! This is Red!”

The maids bowed to Red, who gave a simple ‘yo’. He leaned in towards Misty, as they skipped up the stairs.

“I didn’t know you were rich?” Red whispered, but Misty just grinned.

***

“I don’t think I can get used to this!”

Red was in a set of blue robes, after his own clothes had been hung up to dry after a long wash in Misty’s laundry room. His Pokemon were in Misty’s training room, being healed after the battle at Mount Moon.

“Please take a seat, Master Red!” A maid said, pulling out a seat. Red excitedly sitting down, grabbing his knife and fork like a hungry puppy. Just then, the dining room door opened wide, and in stepped Misty. Red’s mouth opened wide. Misty had her hair down, which reached her shoulders. She was wearing a long, white dress, with ribbons flowing off like swans. Around her neck was a pearl necklace, and in her hair was a big, red opal that glinted in the chandelier.

“Sorry to keep you so long!” Misty smiled, as she took her seat opposite Red. The maids took the lids off the platters, to reveal two plates of burgers, chips and pizza.

“You didn’t tell me it was fancy dress, Misty,” Red mumbled as he scoffed down a handful of chips. The redhead cursed under her breath, and scooped up three chips with her fork.

***

“…and then Misty got knocked out by a wall! It was me against Team Rocket, all on my own! Of course, it only took me and Pika a few minutes to whip their butts, and get Misty out of there to safety!”

The maids had all sat down for their own tea aswell - they too had burgers, chips and pizza for dinner. Red had long finished his meal, and was telling everyone his epic story since Pallet Town.

“Red, listen!” Misty exclaimed sternly, turning to Red. “There’s something we need to talk about…”

“What is it Misty? Can’t bear to hear how I saved the day single-handed?”

Misty carefully put down her half-eaten burger, and put her hands together.

“Red, shut up. Our Pokemon will be fully healed after tea, and when they do, they’re going on a strict training regimen.” Misty ordered.

“Training? Why?” Red asked, adjusting the collar of his robe.

“Maybe because we nearly got kidnapped - maybe even nearly got killed, by Team Rocket. Those dopes at Mount Moon can’t be the best Rocket have got. We’re gonna have more opponents to face, better, stronger, faster, wiser ones,” Misty explained carefully.

“Don’t get your knickers in a twist Misty! Goons like that might scare you, but not me! Pika, Nyoro and Fusshii can beat anyone, including this almighty Team Rocket!” Red said, standing up.

“Do you want to get yourself hurt, Red?” Misty said through gritted teeth, standing up to face Red.

“Puh-lease Misty, if you hadn’t fallen asleep through my amazing performance at Mount Moon, you’d be saying differently!”

“Red, you immature little brat! If it wasn’t for Pika’s initiative, you’d be dead meat by now! You’re so…so…ARGH!”

Misty stormed out of the room, half a dozen little maids following her immediately.

“Don’t take it so personally, Misty!” Red shouted back, anger written all over his face.

***

“Did I say something wrong to her? Besides, who’s got time for training?”

Red was busy in his guest room, tapping away at the game console controller on the floor. Nyoro was sitting next to him, whilst Pika dozed on the bed. Fusshii was licking his feet on top of the television.

“Besides, there’s a whole load of maids in this mansion begging to take me out! I bet there’s even a lady Poliwhirl in here for you, Nyoro!” Red laughed, as the telly played the winning jingle.

Red looked around to check on Fusshii, to see he wasn’t licking his feet anymore. He was staring adamantly at the curtains, which were moving in the breeze.

“Huh? A minute ago it was a clear night…” Red questioned, crawling over to the curtains. He went to pull them shut, when suddenly, the breeze turned into a heavy wind.

“HELP!” Red shouted, as he blew across the bedroom, whacking the door violently. He grabbed the door handle, in a mad attempt to keep from blowing away. Pika dug his paws into the carpet, as his body swung around. Nyoro slid under the bed, and Fusshii crouched low on the floor.

“Somebody help me!” Red cried vaguely over the nasty winds. The curtains were wide open, and the window was open. Red screamed, as the door handle broke, and he flew towards the window. Fusshii quickly used his Vine Whip, grabbing Red, who was grabbing the windowpane tightly. The wind died off, and Red dropped to the ground. Nyoro peered out of the bed, as Pika nursed his sore claws. Fusshii shook his head, before trotting up to Red. The boy picked himself up, but spotted a small, round shell-like object lying near the ground. He grabbed it. The blue scale glinted in the moonlight.

“What the? A Gyarados Scale?” Red asked no-one, turning the Scale over and over in his hand.

***

Red picked at his toast uneasily. He had managed to get over the previous nights freak hurricane, and was back in his own black t-shirt, and blue jeans.

“Is somebody after me…?” Red asked himself, as he took a small nibble.

“Excuse me, Mr. Red?”

Red spun round, to see three maids looking at him.

“Yeah, maids?”

The maids all looked at each other, daring not to ask.

“I get it! You want to see me in action, right?” Red said confidently. The maids nodded in sync, and Red stood up excitedly.

“Well, if you insist…I’ll give you a small sample of my immense power this very day!” Red boasted, folding his arms.

“Really!” One of the maids exclaimed. “Oh, but how?”

“Well, Cerulean City must have a Gym Leader, right? Just for you guys, I’m gonna challenge him and kick his sorry butt, just for you ladies!” Red announced, but the maids frowned. Red raised an eyebrow, and suddenly, the maids burst out into laughter. Red turned a dark shade of pink.

“What? Don’t laugh at me! Don’t you think I can?”

“If you want to fight the Gym Leader, I can take you there,” a voice offered in the doorway. The maids and Red turned round, to see Misty walking into the dining room.

“I’m going there myself today!”

Red frowned, but grabbed his waistcoat off the back of his chair, and followed quickly.

***

“Wait up, Misty! How far away is this Gym?” Red panted, running to keep up with Misty’s long strides.

“It’s at the edge of the city…” Misty frowned, marching even faster.

“Stupid planning, isn’t it? Phew, I’m knackered,” Red commented, as Misty got even faster. They turned a corner, now walking in line with the canal next to them. A gondolier swam past quickly.

“Can’t we catch a ride with that guy?” Red whined but Misty turned her head, and began to run towards the Gym. The Gym came into view in the horizon, surrounded by pools of people playing games like polo and netball with their Pokemon.

“We’re here!” Misty said gleefully, stopping at the door. “After you, Red!”

Slightly scared, Red laughed, walking into the Gym.

The two walked through the Gym, passing room after room of trainers, but none of them stopped to challenge Red or Misty. Some of the rooms had small pools in, and some didn’t; why they weren’t up for a fight Red didn’t know, but as he reached the final room, he became freaked out.

“Hey, where’s the Gym Leader?” Red complained, standing in the middle of the room. “Where is the stupid moron?”

“The moron…” Misty smiled menacingly. She clicked her fingers, and suddenly, the floor began to move into the corners, folding into itself. Red screamed, as a pool of water suddenly appeared, but luckily, he was standing just above a platform. Misty jumped backwards, onto the opposing platform, whilst a giant pool of water engulfed them on either side.

“You mean…you’re the Gym Leader?” Red blurted, nearly tripping over and splashing into the pool.

“You bet! Star, go!”

Misty threw a PokeBall into the air, revealing what didn’t look like the star Pokemon from a few days back at Mount Moon. Now it was purple, with a bigger gem, and four extra limbs.

“Staryu evolved!” an astonished Red pointed out, as Misty smiled.

“Starmie, Water Gun!” Misty commanded, and the starfish Pokemon blasted a mild jet of water at Red. He held up his guard, but he still got soaked.

“Not in the mood for fighting, Red? Well, you didn’t seem to be yesterday either, when I attacked you in your bedroom!” Misty laughed, as Red spat water out his mouth.

“That was you?” Red asked seriously, making fists with his hands.

“I told you we needed more training, Red, and you didn’t listen! It just goes to show, when you’re caught off guard, your weak and stuck! If you want to stand a chance against any of the Gym Leaders, let alone Team Rocket, you need to practise! Now, get out your Pokemon, and we’ll train!”

Red obeyed orders, grabbing Fusshii’s, Pika’s, and Nyoro’s PokeBalls. Misty grabbed two more out of her pockets; a Golduck and a Goldeen.

The two friends faced each other, prepared to battle.

“You’re on, Misty, and believe me, your gonna get more out of this training than I am!” Red sneered, albeit jokingly. Misty nodded, before commanding her Pokemon to attack Red, sending him falling into the warm water below. She laughed, whilst Red flipped the wet hair out of his face. But he couldn’t hold it in, and soon, he and Misty were in hysterics, their silly arguments long forgotten.

***

“Are you sure you’ll be okay, Red?” a concerned Misty asked Red, who was slinging his bag over his shoulder.

“I’ll be fine Misty, really. Thanks for the practise and the guest room,” Red smiled, as he and Misty shook hands. Red smiled to the maids, as Nyoro tugged on his jeans. Red waved one last time, before setting off up a hill, his three Pokemon by his side.

“Are you sure it is wise to let him go, your ladyship?” one of the maids asked Misty, who just smiled ahead.

“We’ve learnt each others skills and attacks. Now we have to hone them separately. Although I’ll look forward to meeting him again.” Misty smiled, as Red ran into the horizon.

“Come on girls, we have some training to do!” Misty encouraged, as her maids bustled around her.

Chapter Nine: Vs. Fearow

Not far from Cerulean City in a small sea cottage…

“Darn it! This stupid machine jus’ gone an’ blown itself out again! Now I gotta go and fix the stupid thang…”

A man in his early twenties with a blonde mop of curly hair climbed into a metal container tiredly. He crawled in further and further, cursing as he fiddled with buttons on a small control panel. His purple sweater caught the handle on the door, and as the annoyed lad reached further and further, the sweater tugged on the door handle more and more, until the metal door slammed shut.

“Now that’s just great!” The man cursed, as another container device connected next to him began to light up. Inside, was a small, purple Rattata.

“No way…no way!” The man shook, as on his super computer, an auto-timer ticked down to zero.

“HELP! Somebody HELP!” The man screamed, as the container began to fill up with smoke.

“So many PokeBalls…so tired…”

Red bent over, and pushed down on his knees with his arms. His face was dark pink, and he was covered in sweat. Around his belt, was twenty or so PokeBalls, all occupied.

“Too heavy!” Red moaned, as he stood upright again. “I can’t just get rid of all these PokeBalls though! I worked all night catching the Pokemon, I - I dropped it!”

Red bent down on his knees, and chased a PokeBall down a hill. His fingers stretched to grab it, but it tumbled all the way down, clanking off a log of wood.

“What the?” Red asked, as he grabbed the PokeBall. The log was tied to a piece of thick rope around a branch sticking out the top, and holding the log was a -

“Rattata! I haven’t got one of those yet!” Red stood up, and looked at the small purple rat. “It doesn’t look right though…”

The Rattata’s body was small and purple, and it had a long, purple winding tail. However, there was something about the full head of yellow, curly hair, that Red couldn’t quite put his finger on.

“It must be a super rare Rattata that can grow hair! Alright, this is my big break!” Red squealed excitedly, as the Rattata stopped pushing the log for a second.

“Who knew it would be so darn hard to jus’ light ah fire!” the Rattata complained, wiping the sweat off its forehead with its small, fat paw.

“Argh! It talks!” Red screamed in a girly voice, and finally the Rattata noticed somebody was following it.

“Hot dang! A human bean! Ah was startin’ to think nobody would ever come noseying around these parts!”

Red was sitting in the small cottage, overlooking the sea. In front of him on the computer desk, was the Rattata grinning broadly with its two buck teeth.

“Well, I praise you, son! D’you think ya can get me back to normal?” The Rattata asked politely, as Red blinked rapidly.

“What is it, son? Fly in ya eye?”

“Um…can I just have a minute outside, please?” Red asked, quickly running to the door. He breathed in the fresh air, and grabbed his canteen from his bag. He splashed some water on his face, and turned around to walk back in the cottage. However, the Rattata had pushed the door open, and was perched on the veranda of the cottage.

“Feelin’ better now, son?” The Rattata asked, and Red knew he wasn’t tired or dizzy - the Rattata was still there. “C’mon now, let’s step inside again, so you can put me back to normal, and I can explain the whole darn thang!”

Red nodded, and went to pick up the Rattata, when, suddenly, a brown bird with a long neck, swooped down, and grabbed the Rattata in his long beak.

“Help!” The Rattata cried, as Red watched the Fearow swoop away. “Please, do somethin’!” The Rattata pleaded, as Red looked on.

“Um…okay!” Red replied, taking three PokeBalls from his belt. “Nyoro, Fusshii, Pika, go!”

The three Pokemon looked at Red, waiting for command.

“Okay, follow that Fearow!” Red ordered, and the team ran after the quickly escaping bird.

“First, we have to halt the annoying bird! Fusshii, Razor Leaf!” Red commanded, and the small Bulbasaur stopped in its tracked, as Nyoro and Pika jogged past. His bulb opened wide, letting a sharp leaf spin out of it. The leaf span into the air, hitting the Rattata on the tail. The Fearow swerved, dropping the Rattata. The poor rat screamed, as the Fearow clenched him in his sharp talons.

“What kinda attack is that, boy? If you wanna stop a flying-type like Fearow, you wanna paralyze the wings!” The Rattata lectured. “Use ya Poliwhirl and ya Pikachu there! The Bulbasaur ain’t gonna help one bit!”

Fusshii sneered at the Rattata, as Nyoro and Pika prepared for orders.

“Um okay…Nyoro, Ice Beam! Pika, Thunder Wave!”

A huge beam of ice erupted from Nyoro’s stomach, straight at the wings of the Fearow. Pika crouched into a ball, letting of five sparks of electricity at the lanky bird. The Ice Beam shot straight past the Fearow, as the Thunder Wave hit Rattata’s body.

“Have ya got in fer me, boy? You can’t shoot the bird, whilst it’s flying! You’ve got to wait for it to stop!” The Rattata bellowed, as it tried to move its body.

“MAKE UP YOUR MIND!” Red screamed, as all his Pokemon backed away crossly.

“C’mon guys, I know he’s pushy, but we have to save him!” Red beckoned, but the three offended Pokemon turned around. “There’s berries in it for everyone?” Red bribed, and the three Pokemon slowly turned around, making Red grin.

“Okay guys, triple attack, like we practised!” Red ordered, as the three Pokemon ran ahead. Nyoro stopped, facing Fusshii and Pika as they scampered towards him. Fusshii jumped over his head, as Nyoro fired an Ice Beam upwards. Fusshii propelled through the air, releasing two vine’s downwards. The vines wrapped around Pika, before hurtling upwards, as Nyoro’s Ice Beam disintegrated. As Fusshii fell, he released the vines, with enough force to send Pika up a few metres. The Fearow widened its eyes, watching Pika rise above him. The evil bird dropped the Rattata, as Pika fired a Thunderbolt down at Fearow.

“Yer are tryin a fry me!” The Rattata gasped, as it fell towards a cliff overlooking the sea.

“If you miss from below, try from above!” Red smiled, as the Rattata landed on the edge of the cliff, close to hyperventilating. His mop of blonde hair was all over the place, with dust from the rocks scattered neatly on top.

The Thunderbolt hit Fearow directly in the neck, sending it crashing to the ground. It was nearly fried, its long neck bent and crooked. Red and Nyoro stood over it, as Fusshii grabbed Pika with another Vine Whip.

“You can fight now, can’t ya?” Red mocked, as the Fearow glared at him. Suddenly, the Fearow flew up a few metres from the ground, its long neck aiming at Red and his Pokemon. Rattata watched from the edge of the cliff, shaking with every pulse.

“Boy, I know that stance! Better watch out! It’s gonna use Drill Peck!” The Rattata cried, as the Fearow’s beak began to spin round viciously. The Fearow then charged at Nyoro, as Red, Fusshii, and Pika ran back.

The Rattata, Red, and the Pokemon watched, as Fearow’s beak pierced right through Nyoro’s swirled stomach. Suddenly, Nyoro began to vanish, as another Nyoro formed in front of Red, firing an Ice Beam at the Fearow’s beak.

“Oh right, Double Team!” Rattata smiled, as the Fearow fainted. The purple rodent ran up to join Red, as his Pokemon congratulated Nyoro in their own languages.

“It was no problem, Rattata!” Red grinned, as he gave each one of the Pokemon a berry each.

***

Red and the Rattata were back at Sea Cottage. The Rattata, who had told Red his real name was Bill, had put himself in the container, as Red pushed a lever. The containers began to whirr violently the clouds of smoke appearing again. Thirty seconds later, the Rattata had moved back to the second container again, with a human Bill in the first one. Bill stepped out, brushing off his knees. He walked over to Red, a frown on his face.

“That was not supposed to happen…y’see, that there is a teleportation system. I’ve been working on it for a year now, but it still has some glitches that need to be sorted out. It can transfer anything you want from one container to the other - but it wasn’t supposed to fuse the two objects together!” Bill explained, as Red nodded.

“I never got ya name?” Bill asked Red.

“I’m Red, and I’m gonna be the best Pokemon Master that ever lived!” Red exclaimed, as Bill looked at his belt.

“Great! A boy with a mission! Hey…you have quite a lot of PokeBalls, don’t you?” Bill pointed out, as Red struggled to stay standing.

“Here, let me take some of these off of you! Being a Pokemon Scientist, I can use this machine to transport these PokeBalls to wherever you are, so long as there’s a Pokemon Center around! Now, what Pokemon have we here…” Bill took a PokeBall from Red’s belt, and turned it round so he could see through the transparent bit. The Fearow glared at Bill, causing the young man to squeal, and fall over.

“F-Fearow!” Bill screamed, as Red, Pika, Fusshii and Nyoro went into hysterics.
