Hi guys. I'm kinda new here and i dont have diamond or pearl yet, but am thinking of buying either.
i think ive grasped the basics on EVs. you kill a certain tipe of pokemon and it gives you a bunch of points, like spead or atak, and by doing this, by the tim you get tha tpokemon to 100 it has like 500 hp or something like that. which is phenomenal.

but:

If i did want to EV train some of my other pokemon, from LG and they were, lets say lvl 90 would i still be able to EV train them to their max? or would i have to train a pokemon from the begining (lvl 5)?
i just think it would be a waste to have trained 14 pokemon to lvl 90 and they wouldnt even be able to beat other pokemon their lvl, juust os others have been EV trained.

and can you EV train a lvl 100? i thought since lvl 100s were bsicaly at the peak of their training, maybe you couldnt EV train them anymore?

Nope you have to ev train them at around level 20 to get a good idea of what their Ivs are, but put them in the Daycare when doing this to level them up, so you dont gain unwanted EVS by battling.

at level 90 its not worth doing due to the Evs being used up on random stats.

I thinks so because just about everyone EV trains, and the sad truth is that non Ev trained pokemon cant stand up to Ev trained ones.

You can't EV train Level 100s and EV training a Level 90 is gonna be a problem

You can only get EVs through battling or using items like Protein.

Yes - you can - but there is a limit on how many Proteins you can give a pokemon - after that it doesn't give EVs any more

Er, I'm probably a bit late to this thread, but you can reset EVs. In D/P, you'll find certain berries that raise a Pokemon's Happiness, but lower a certain stat, such as Pomeg, Kelpsy, Qualot, and Hondew berries. Well, when these berries lower stats, they don't lower stats outright- they lower EVs. Each berry lowers the EVs of a certain stat by 10. If you have enough of them (and you'll need a LOT to reset a fully trained Pokemon), you can get a Pokemon with a full 510 EVs down to nothing, and start training him anew.

The only problem with this method is the amount of berries it requires. But if you're really dedicated to using your old Pokemon, a week or so of obsessive berry planting will be nothing.

Keep in mind that this only works if the Pokemon is under Level 100- at level 100, you can't level up anymore, meaning you can't gain the effects of EVs. However, for level 90s, this works well, as long as you're careful to train against much weaker Pokemon.

Just rebreed...chances are the nature and IVs aren't so hot anyways. Besides, Wi-fi automatically puts your pokemon's levels to 100...just be sure you finish evolving the pokemon, finish their movesets, and their EV training. That is why levels are irrelevant.

I agree with you, there- breeding yields stronger Pokemon. However, the OP seemed to really want to use his old Pokemon, so I suggested to Berry thing.

Actually, it was rumored in Emerald (so I'll assume the same goes for D/P) that you could EV train at level 100. You simply EV train, deposit the Pokemon in the PC, and pull them back out again. The stats should adjust to the EVs.

Although, I've never tried this... once again, it was just rumored.

But like I said, there is a slim to none chance that all his pokemon, even one for that matter, have good IVs and nature. Rebreeding also gives you far more control over the nature (everstone) and IVs (the parents). Training doesn't take all too long. In emerald, I trained my steelix to lv. 100 in 2 days...it isn't too difficult.

Ok guys. thanks a bunch! i've got a litle more hope for my pokemon. that berry thing seems pretty fantastic, i can be patient. ad even then if that dosnt work then i'll just train some new ones. it didnt take me long to get these to lvl 90. but i REALY do like them... my scizor and my charizard... and the others... it would be sad to see them sit in the PC for eternity... had high hopes in them...
anyway. when i do get diamon or pearl i'll try all this out. hopefuly i didn't waste 390+ hours of gameplay...

Hey, just as an after thought, does anyone know if the hours disapear? ike once you hit 400, does it go bak to 300 or smfin? cos i think i've done a lot more. ive been playing my LG for ages, never even restarted it...

I think the clock stops at 999:59, but I'm not sure. I've never played LG, but it seems wierd that it would stop at a random number like 400.
