So I just started playing, really. Played red and yellow back in the day, finished them and moved on - but I got that certain itch and with wifi trading now a reality it seemed like a good time to start plaing again.

So here's the deal, got Emerald so far and I'm practising/team building before I further invest in a DS and the other games. I may just buy pearl or diamond, just trading for unobtainables as I see fit.

So before I start playing actual real people I'd like a good team but working from Emerald. Here's the pokies I'm using right now. I just don't feel anything for the legendaries. Seems a bit cheap to use them *shrug*.

Swampert
Cacturne
Skarmony
Heracross
Gardevoir
Thinking about Houndoom to cover fire. I just really like it.

I've read and (mostly) understood IV and EV training, though for now I'll skip right to EV training for trainer hill and the battle frontier. When I'm ready for battling real folks I'll IV train, but no doubt my team list will change between now and then.

And...that's it. Advice on what team I Anyone feel like helping out?

NOTE: It makes me sad that I can't get a punching alakazam :'(

Easy way is by breeding. Medicham or Hitmonchan can both get the moves naturally (although you'll need Heart Scales to get the punches onto Medicham) and can breed with Alakazam. Alternatively, he can learn the punches from the Move Tutor, for 48 BP each. Although if you're aiming to transfer to D/P, the punches become physical, so you may want to invest in Shadow Ball and, once you've traded over, Energy Ball.

toothache: For now it's emerald-only, so no meditite sadly, or machamp.
Itachi: I can buy the punches from the battle frontier, you mean? Well that works! Aces.

So...my team-in progress, can I get your advice and suggestions?

You can catch meditite at Mt. Prye I think. You can always use the Frontier tutors though

Oh...well, regardless, Zam actually hasn't worked well for me. I suggest using it with something like celebi that can BP Calm mind to Zam, and then you are unstopable.
