Technology is constantly taking over our lives and we no longer have to do as many things as we used to. So, do you think it's going to continue to make our lives easier? Or are we aiding in our own destruction? (Terminator 3 spoiler xD)

Oh, this is a really good one. I think it will ultimately make life easier. Think about it, how can we create something that has more knowledge than it's creator?

I would have to say both. I mean it'll advance more and more forever but there's always a negative side effect to something, like it'll help contribute to global warming for instance. In the bible, it states that humanity will destroy its self, which I fully believe we're doing at this very moment.

As technology increases, so does the work that goes along with it. Take computers for example, you used to have to write one paper a day for your job, but with the availability of computers, you must type a lot more. As for aiding in our destruction, I would have to remind people of the artificial part of artificial intelligence. We make what we wish of them, and they shall not become a Frankenstein, unless used by the wrong persons.

The answer: Neutral.

The Human race will never survive forever.
No matter how much technology, or advances,
The Human race is seculed to DIE OUT.

- FACT

^ Just thought I would say that.
That fact is, sadly,
It rather we kill ourselves with burning out our ozone layer, melting one of both of the poles, some idiot makes something that kills out mankind, etc.
Or, we can survive long enough to witness the earth die by the sun burning out in a billion years or so.

Sadly, that is fact, and I think it sucks big time.
*sigh*

Wow, I sound like a emo 0_o

As for this subject, I doubt anyone with over 50 braincells will know not to make something that could outsmart it's creator.

Well... It depends. If we do nothing but stare at them then yes it well help destory us. If we dont spend our entire lvies staring at us then it will help us depedning on what we do. The reason i say if we devote our lives to it it will destroy us is becuase it will hurt our eyes. And my mom says it may also hurt yoru brain a little. the reason i say if we dont devote our lives to them it will help us is... unless you amke them thats fine ebcuase its your jobs but there is other stuff to do and you relize that but you also relize that this is kool too and will help you with your homework and research and job as long as you use it wiselly. But it can also be used as a cell phone kinda only without the voice and no charge... Thats all I can say on this subjetc at the moment.

Technology, like almost everything else in existance, has downsides. I agree, we continue to destroy ourselves, and nobody knows yet when the effects of what we've done will take place. For all we know, glbal warming could start to drastically change Earth's climate tomorrow, or the sun could burn out right now. We have made scientific estimations on these matters, but we don't know for sure.

I'd say that texhnology won't destory us or help, kinda in the middle. Technology or not, the human race is digging our own graves-and perhaps Earth;s grave as well.

It will help bring the end to our world. Everything has a negative and positive end to things. Artificial intelligence is just something that will help us for a little while until it develops something like its own personality and decides to rebel and destroy the planet.

Interesting question....
In the end, I think this artificial intelligence deal will be helping us in some ways, and destroying us in others. Look at what our intelligence have already done to this world. If we continue at this rate in the need for money, need for entertainment, transportation, meat and other foods, and our desire for sex and children etcetera is increasing rapidly as the world population grows.

Think of what might happen with artificial intelligence. Ultimately, these things that we are creating, the technology, it will destroy us in the end.

Waker, that is an EXCELLENT explanation. Kudos to you, for writing something like that. I'm sure we are now all a little bit smarter with our Pokemon knowledge. Thanks very much for clearing up a lot of confusion.

Artificial Intelligence will help us and hurt us equally.

I imagine humanoid robots of war equipped with sniper rifles for arms that can think with such complexity that they will be able to level battlefields full of humans from three miles away. That's scary.

I also imagine supercomputers that can forecast natural disasters weeks or even months in advance. That's good.

When it comes right down to it, it really depends on what we use AI for. Although I don't think it will destroy us. We adapt too well. The end of all things is forecast in the Bible, as someone said, and people are obviously still around then, so I don't think we'll be going anywhere anytime soon.

However, that doesn't mean we can't make conditions worse for ourselves. AI has the potential to do that, but then again so do most things.

Not quite correct. Not all of the human race will die out. Some will simply transform into a new race. You should read Revelation. Y'know, the last Book of the Bible.

But besides that, yeah, you're pretty much right. I'm just glad I know I'll transform rather than cease to exist.

I doubt you yourself would 'transform'. Evolution happens over many generations and very gradually (or at least I believe so..) do it. So you yourself would cease to exist, by that time, if it ever comes, that is.

Anywho, it is possible for an AI to be smarter than its creator, depending on the circumstance, that is. I mean, if there are multiple 'creators', which the chance of that happening is quite high, and thus it'd take more than just one person intelligence and point of view, as well as talent. So if it was the creation vs 1 creator, the creation would win. /=

But as for AI's, they could harm us, even if we did program them to be kind and helpful. But what happens if you misfunctions? Or gets a virus? What if that virus made it go berserk and kill everyone? What if that specefic virus was contagious and got into every AI around? Wouldn't that lead to our own distruction?

Thats all the future is, "What if?" x: I mean, we can try and force things to happen in one straight, definite direction. But there will most likely be bends and detours on that road that may hinder us, and cause problems. And don't forget, there could be some people who could 'evilaly' plan to control all AI's to kill the human race, you never know.
