I've noticed about 80% of the people I see smoke. Not a very nice thing to see, but what can you do about it? What are your opinions on smoking?

I used to be disgusted by smokers, but as I went into high school, I saw that people used it as an easy way to avoid stress.

I've been through a stage of doing it before, due to hanging with people that did it, and I can say that the positives are definitely outweighed by the negatives.
That's my opinion anyway. Some people have a completely different take on the subject.
Isn't it 30% of people?

I personally hate smoking and continue to ask why it is still legal, the only good thing is that it relieves stress, and there are plenty of other things out there that can do the job just as well, and some probably even better.
As for people who do smoke, I don't care about them or if they do it, its up to them if they want to deteriorate their own body and in a pathetic fashion. So as I may not say anything to them and tell them to stop, I still lose any possible past respect I had for them and look down on them as worthless people. :x

What I observed is, a non-smoker doesn't really understand why a smoker does smoke... they tell them to stop, like it's easy. But do not know any background on that person.

The alcohol age-limit where I live is currently 18, and they're planning to move it up to 21.
Trouble is, they're moving it up two months after my 18th birthday. I plan to drink as much as possible in those two months. ;P
lol good on you

dont get to ill though but.

I have smoked thanks to people i hung around with. they started thanks to their parents
It took me ages to quit but it was nice smoking at first. and its hard to quit.

my other friends tried to get me to quit but i wouldn't listen to em because of how hard it it.

It was my fiend getting lung cancer that made me quit.
luckily he got better and we quit together and it feels good.

but i don't mind it when people smoke
their life.
shouldn't be illegal because its money in the economy lol.

As a non-smoker, I find it disrespectful for a smoker to light up in front of those who do not want to breathe in their smoke in an enclosed or semi-enclosed space, and worst in front of children who do not know any better (and sound like a frog by time they are five). That is infringment of a right to good health. It stinks, it makes some people feel sick and get headaches, and even if you yourself don't smoke the smell clings to your clothes.

As a non-smoker, I find it disrespectful for another non-smoker to dictate that other people should not smoke and that smokers are low, bad people. That is bigotry and prejudice.

As a non-smoker, I do find it irritating that every 3rd person average I pass in the street is holding a smelly cig and that I have to hold my breath so many times in order to not have the smell sting my throat and nostrils. But I feel powerless to escape it.

My views on smoking, I think, would be different if non-smokers did not have to inhale the smoker's leftovers. I am fine with people doing it if they wish, and I realise that outdoors it cannot be helped smelling it everywhere I go (though I worry what that, coupled with car fumes, is doing to my lungs), but I do think its something that's not necessary nor healthy.

I would never light up around other people that don't smoke id do it outside where people don't go a lot.

It seems stereotyping and prejudice is rampant here, eh?

On topic, age limmits, I think, do not work. Its proper education and socialisation which is lacking throughout much of society.

I don't find it disgusting, but I just want the smokers to have the decensy not to light up around me. If they want to kill their lungs, they plainly see that I don't, so don't do it for me. My high school is relatively made of smokers, but my own grade has a respectable number of smokers.
I walk by these smokers daily, and they leave me alone. I don't bother them, they don't bother me. I'm fine with it, just as long as I don't get any second-hand stuff.

I'd refuse if anyone offered me a smoke, anyway.

I absolutely hate smoking. It destroys. Though I can't effect what others do with their bodies, only what I do with mine. I got my grandmother to quit smoking when I was just nine.... because even then I knew how bad it was/could be.
hi, i'm dead.

It is such a nasty habit. I tried for months to get my dad to stop but in the end it was himself who made him quit. Personally I don't mind if other people smoke as long as I don't have any relation to them. But if it's a close friend or family member, then I'll get worried. Funny thing is, about 45% of my class smokes.

People pressured me into smoking, but I would never do it. They kept on pushing me, so I did it to keep them happy. At first it was horrible, but there's something that makes you want to try it again..I've never had one since, and I hope to never have one again as I know what it does to you. Hell, half of the 13 year olds in our school smoke. It's a pretty bad sight seeing that happen, especially with people you know.

Actually... incorrect. Nicotine is a stimulant, much like caffeine. So if anything, it makes you more antsy and more neurotic than you were before. If someone says that going outside and smoking a cigarette calms them down, they're lying - or it's in their head. Chances are it's the air outside that calms them down.

As for Second Hand Smoke, the fact is... it does nothing. Second hand smoke is no more dangerous to your lungs than breathing New York air. I believe it was originally stated by the ACS, or some cancer/lung association, that second hand smoke kills thousands in an old report they sent to the Supreme Court. Know what? They made it all up. They fudged statistics, and put their own opinions as facts.

Smoking is bad, no doubt... but don't you worry for a second about second hand smoke. The only bad thing it can do to you is make your cloths smelly. And even then, I'm sure there are perfumes out there by Brittany Spear or Madonna that would make you smell far worse.

Theres nothing wrong with smoking. It's gross, but if you don't like it then don't smoke right ;3
No reason to look down on or try to stop people that smoke. Its their choice.

I smoke, personally I love it. But I wouldn't recommend that anyone start, unless they want to die young.

you cant ban smoking, next it will be alcohol, in my country they are trying too but its a choice. it dosnet really releave stress, thats just folklore. nicotine is just highly addictive.

Prohibition, you mean?
Didn't work then, doubt it would work now.

Umm, frankly I don't have a problem with people who smoke. I don't like the smell but it's no big deal to me. If people want to smoke, okay. I'm never going to, I can't afford to risk throat cancer and losing my singing voice.
