I read about it too, Gamespot and IGN said the CEO of Nintendo of Europe announced that it'll be out in 2005 and shown at E3 with Nintendo Revolution. That's all the info released so far.

What I think is that it will not be backwards compatiable, and that's why the DS is. This is a smart move since it'll relieve the next GB the duty to play the old games, and use whatever media they want it to. This will let it have either more space for other pieces of hardware on it, like a bigger screen size, or more space for your hand. And you can still play you old games on the DS, it's the best imo.

Ooo... I'm a class A idiot. I don't know why I even questioned this. I read this before and posted it at my forums a couple of days ago. How on earth did I manage to forget what I read?

Nope, of course they can't stay on a quality product, they have to make us buy a new system and then force us to play all our favorites on another system doomed to fail instead of the new one! I can't make any more comments until I hear anything for sure about it, but I think it's too early for a new gameboy =/

Nintendo has repeated its pronouncement that a successor to the Game Boy Advance is already in the works, although dropped no clues as to when it is planning to launch the system.

Speaking at the recent ELSPA Games Summit, Gosen admitted that "new Game Boy iterations are under review right now, before the first DS is sold", which follow similar comments made by Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata around the time of the DS' initial reports in January this year, who was keen to stress that the DS was more of an experiment in testing the market reaction to a Dual Screen device than any concerted attempt to bring out a successor to the GBA.

He pointed out back then that he couldn't predict how well the DS would go down in the market and that maybe only 10 per cent of its audience would buy it. He added that a new Game Boy was being devised in addition to the DS, but Nintendo's release strategy may rest on how well the DS performs in the market when it releases later this year in Japan, and early next year in the US and Europe.

  • The working title is "Game Boy Evolution".
  • The system will have a flip-top design, similar to the AGS.
  • Games will come on mini-discs, as opposed to cartridges.
  • The graphics will be slightly better than those found on the Sega Dreamcast.
  • Bluetooth wireless networking will be built in.
  • The system will feature backwards compatibility, but not in the same way the GBA plays old Game Boy games. Supposedly there will be a device that will allow you to download games from their carts into a harddrive-like element of the new Game Boy.
  • The system's screen will be lit, similar to the AGS.

Way to early for new consoles, GBS is doing great as it is, I heard by itself it sold more than X-Boxes, PS2's, and GC's combined, so I say let it remain for a few more years, get more great games for it, and when they feel it is about to die, release a new handheld =/

Really? 2005? That early? The Nintendo DS has barely came out yet and look a new Game Boy. Oh well, at least this adds to my game collection. :P

If that's true, Nintendo is stupid, if they planning to release a new Game Boy, with one screen obivously, they need to up the PSP, not release a product later that is worse..... if that is true, their next gameboy will fail.
