Hi guys! This is only my second bit of fan fiction, however I've taken in some grammar points this time! Hope you enjoy it!

Team Work Wins Again

Prologue:

“Team Work is a very important thing, Alexa. Without team work, the world would be full of uncontrollable strife.”

This is a saying the Alexa’s father always used to tell her. At this time however, Alexa was very young and naïve and didn’t really understand it. It was not until her 10th birthday until she truly found out what it meant.

Chapter 1: First Impressions

“Alexa honey! It’s time to wake up!”

“…”

“Alexa! Now!”

“…Uh…5 more minutes Mum…Please!”

“Ugh! Whatever!”

Alexa finally awoke from her slumber to find that the light was already shining in from the gap in the closed curtains. She looked around her room and focused her eyes on the calendar that hung on her wall. It took a few seconds, but Alexa realized that it was her 10th birthday today! However instead of jumping around the room with joy, she merely fell back in her bed and sighed.

“Alexa! Don’t make me come in there young lady! I’ve already started to make breakfast!

“OK! I’m coming!” Alexa replied moodily.

She took her dressing gown from the back of her door, slipped it on and tiptoed down stairs. She took caution in case any of her family were to jump out and shout “Surprise!” from around the corner. Alexa hated surprises. You never know if it will be good or bad until you finally realize what it is. If you know what you’re getting, then you will at least have time to object or prepare. She reached the bottom of the stairs and slowly headed for the kitchen door. As she got closer, a familiar smell grew stronger. Alexa took some time to figure out what it was, and as she walked through the door and saw her Mum making breakfast she realized…WAFFLES!

“Mum! Do I smell waffles for breakfast!?” She asked excitedly.

“Yes dear, indeed you do.”

Alexa licked her lips, pulled up a chair and sat at the table in wait. As she was waiting for breakfast she discussed her day with her Mum.

“…And we’ll have a party with lots and lots of cake and…”

“Whoa! Slow down there Alexa honey! Wouldn’t you rather indulge in all the surprises your Father and I have planned for today?”

Alexa’s grin faded. She wanted to have a planned day, but she couldn’t very well say no if her parents had planned this already. She sat at the table in thought about what awful things could come out of a good day.

“Your waffles are ready dear!” Her Mum announced.

She went over to collect them and sat back down at the table. She picked up her knife and fork and cut a small chunk of waffle. She placed it in her mouth, and from the moment it touched the tip of her tongue, her face lit up. All of a sudden all of her worries were demolished by the delicious taste of waffles. Her thoughts disappeared, and her cravings grew stronger. She took a second to swallow the chunk, then ate some more. Within 2 minutes the entire confection had turned into a few crumbs on a plate.

“Yummy!” Exclaimed Alexa, licking her lips. “That was delicious!”

She took her plate over to the sink, when all of a sudden…

“BURP!”

Alexa burped.

“Alexa! How rude of you! What do you have to say for yourself!?” Her Mum shouted in disgust.

“…BURP!” Alexa continued.

Her mother gave her a huge glare that she only gave people she couldn’t stand. Alexa knew if she stayed any longer she would be in trouble. She grinned and ran out the kitchen, burping in her path. She went into the living room where her Dad was sitting with a box on his knee.

“Oh, Good morning dear! Happy Birthday!” he said joyfully.

Alexa would normally have smiled and said thank you, but she was intrigued by the box on her Dad’s knee. She noticed a label saying her name and began to wonder what it was. Her Dad noticed she was staring at the box and had to explain.

“This is your birthday present, from me and your Mum.” He told her.

A grin appeared on Alexa’s face. Her Dad passed her the box and Alexa ripped it open. She had her eyes closed until she had taken apart the complete box and opened them to see what it was.

“It’s…a…pokeball?” She said as if she’d gotten the wrong birthday present.

“But this wasn’t on my list!”

“I know dear, it’s a surprise from me and your Mum. You do like it don’t you?”

Alexa was speechless. This is why she hated surprises. Alexa wasn’t the type of girl who wanted to go around engaging pokemon in brutal fights. She just wanted to live a good life. Well, there was no use now, she picked up the pokeball and released the pokemon within. A strange figure materialized right before her, and it was now definite that Alexa was in for a very nice surprise...

Expect Chapter 2 soon!

Chapter 2: Destiny Strikes

“Buizel!”

Alexa analyzed the pokemon and tried to make out what it was. It was a light orange colour with a beige ring that covered its neck. It had a blue fin sort of thing at the end of each arm and had 2 tails sticking out it’s back. It had also had a sort of fin thing on it’s head, and a few whiskers on it’s face. Alexa now had an idea what it might be…

“You got me a squirrel!?” Alexa cried with fury.

The pokemon looked at Alexa and began to look frightened.

“No dear, it’s a Buizel and it’s a pokemon!” her Dad said in defense.

He drew a red device from his pocket and opened it in the direction of Buizel.

“Buizel, the Sea Weasel pokemon - It has a flotation sac that is like an inflatable collar. It floats on water with its head out.”

The device explained Buizel, and Alexa’s Dad explained that the red device was a pokedex, and he handed it to her.

“Now Alexa. That should be all, you’re all set. Now you’re officially a pokemon trainer!” Her Dad said in delight.

Alexa didn’t look overjoyed. In fact she looked absolutely miserable! It hurt her Dad to see her like this on your birthday.

“Of course…” He continued. “You could always just keep him as a pet?” Her Dad suggested.

Alexa began to smile, and the Buizel, walked over to her and jumped with joy. She nodded to her Dad and carried Buizel out of the room and into her room where she thought of a name for Buizel.

“Hmm…You need a cute nickname…” She said to herself.

She started writing down a few ideas, but they didn’t suit the Buizel. She gave up, and in the end, it didn’t have a nickname. It was just Buizel. The pokemon looked quite happy about this, but who wouldn’t be. Alexa’s talent for naming things wasn’t the best in the world.

“Well Buizel, we better get started! It’s my birthday and we, only have a day to enjoy ourselves!” Alexa said. The two of them jumped in chorus and made preparations for the day.
