I've been trying to use the GTS cloning, with the 8th spin method, and just can't seem to get it.

I either come out of the trade station when I reload w/o my pokemon in my party, or my save file is my character standing at the front of the desk.

Any timing tips, please?

If you're not getting eight spins, move farther away from your wifi connection. It slows it down, thus taking more spins. eventually you'll be able to predict where you can be to get to eight spins. Hope that helps!

I'll be gone July 19-25 at camp.

I'm in the exact same boat as you. I've tried everything. Moving to different rooms, further away etc. Nothing works at all. I've either not deposited my Pokemon and I'm standing outside the GTS. Or it's deposited and not cloned. It never seems to work.
I ended up forgetting and came back one day to find one of my Dittos gone and a level 100 female Bidoof in it's place :/ gutted.

As what Relyt said, please look at the FAQ first before posting any questions.

Also, GeneralGuy was right since everyone's internet speed is a bit different so 8 spins on the dot may not work for you. I suggest first grabbing a Bidoof or w/e and offering it for something lame in the GTS but focus on counting how many spins it takes for your internet to connect and leave Bidoof in the GTS. Keep doing this experiment until you get a good average of how many spins it takes you to upload a pokemon on wifi. Then, back up that number by a clock "tick" (like if it takes you about 7.5 spins each time, turn off the game at like 7.25 or whatever the increments were). If you come back w/o the pokemon in your party, you're too slow. If you are back at the lady and the desk, you're too fast. So really you just have to keep experimenting. Wireless routers that have blinking lights are wondrous but if you have the Nintendo wifi adapter, I believe it's harder. Another tip is turning off the internet and try to get a steady connection to your DS. In my experience, location didn't matter for me. I'm actually better one foot away from my router than outside but it may be different for you again so it's best to try out whatever members have suggested here or try google. But since there isn't a dead set way on how to clone, topic kinda pointless. If you still can't get it to work at all, you're stuck too since open cloning requests threads aren't allowed... Sorries. Feel free to ask me more about this if you'd like but successful cloning all just luck really. ^^;
