Chapter One:The Melancholy Of Ian Delacour
RATED T FOR ONE CURSE.
“He’s been in the library all day for the past week. Reckon he’s looking for some type of cure for Glenn,” said a tall boy with black silky mushroom cut hair whose eyes gleamed a faded hazel color.
“Wouldn’t blame him. After all it is his twin brother, what’d you expect?” said another boy with curly blonde hair, and blue eyes. “Why aren’t you up there with him looking? He’s your brother too.”
"Why should I be? He’s not gonna find anything remotely interesting or anything having to do with Glenn screaming half the times we go to visit him. Perhaps he’s having some type of nightmare,” said the tall black haired one. They were standing by the Canalave Library.
“You’re a dick, man. Seriously. If it were my little sister, I’d be cramming myself in books too,” said the blonde boy.
“Well, I’m not you, now am I?” The black haired boy said, slightly irritated.
“Well of you aren’t. You don’t have to be so offensive about it, Ethan. Ian’s got a lot to worry about. More than you,” The blonde said. He was irritated.
“I’m not getting offensive!” Ethan yelled, “You’re the one to talk! Running away from drunk parents! And taking your frustration out on the world!” He held his fist up to the blonde’s face.
“Go ahead, do it Ethan! You know I’m right! Being selfish for absolutely no reason! Yeah I do take it out on other people, but at least I- care about everyone around me even though I take my frustration out on them! Help your brother!” The blonde shouted, hotly.
“Why should I!?” Ethan yelled, he punched the blonde in the face.
The blonde held his nose that was now dripping with blood. He looked up at Ethan, and said, “What kind of brother are you!?” as he punched him in the stomach.
The two began to fight viciously, and soon enough a crowd formed around them. Two adults pulled them apart from each other, both boys still swearing at one another.
Ian Delacour, fifteen years old, sat in the Canalave City Library. He was not really tall, but not really short. He had silky soft black hair, that ran down to a little past his chin. He wore a black collared shirt that had a green and white stripe running horizontally across it. He also wore black cargo pants, and black sandals. And since he couldn’t see very well, he wore black framed glasses.
He sat reading numerous books about mythological Pokemon. He heard a commotion coming from outside, so he decided to investigate. He pressed his face against the window, and saw a crowd of people, surrounding, four adults that were holding two teenage boys; that were perhaps two or three years older than him. Adjusting his glasses a bit, he could now see them more clearer. It was his brother, and his best friend Elliott. They were both covered in blood.
Ian dropped his book on the table, and darted for the elevator. Someone held the door open for him. “Thanks,” he muttered as he took a spot in the back left corner. The moment he got to floor one - he was on floor five- he dashed through the front doors, and over to the crowd. He forced himself thru, but with much difficulty, for some people found it amusing to push him into others, even after saying sorry.
Finally making his way up to the front, Ian stared at the two. Both Ethan and Elliott were bleeding profusely. Ethan had a black and blue eye, whereas Elliott had a broken nose.
“E-Ethan!” Ian cried out trying to attract his brother’s attention. Ethan did not look at him, but Elliott did.
“H- Hey Ian…” He said weakly, “Sorry ‘bout this. My fault really.” Officer Jenny escorted him to an ambulance that had just arrived, “Lates Ian. Tell your mum I’m sorry.” He waved goodbye.
Ian stood there with his mouth hanging open, in silence. He turned back around, and dashed back to the library.
He sat down to finish the book he was reading when he noticed that someone had switched his book to one called Pokemon Of The Moon Islands. He opened it slowly, then scanned the book for anything having to do with falling into coma, suddenly, and screaming “Dark is here”.
About a week ago, Ian’s twin brother, Glenn, fell into an unexpected coma. Whenever Ian and his family visited- Ethan often disappeared when they were going to do so- him he would start mumbling things about Dark. Ian decided he needed to investigate, because Glenn wasn’t the only victim. There were five other people, all of which he knew in some sort of way. Justin Glezwick, a boy who lived down the street from them; Mimi Jokerson, a friend of Ethan and Elliott; Kite Highwind, a prankster of the town; Holly Newton, a girl who was often seen walking down his block; and David Frostyworth, the new boy in town.
He started to read, and sure enough there it was. A Pokemon by the name of Darkrai puts it’s victims to sleep, and causes them to have nightmares. That person cannot be woken up unless given the Lunar Wing possessed by a Pokemon named Cresselia. And according to the book, Cresselia is located on Full Moon Island, and Darkrai is located on New Moon Island.
“The hell?” He glanced around the room, wondering who put the book there. Perhaps they had done it while he was outside. Whoever did it, he was extremely grateful to. He closed the book, and took it downstairs so he could check it out of the library.
“Found an interesting book, eh Ian?” said the librarian, smiling.
“Yeah…” He muttered as he handed her the book.
“Must be hard with your twin brother in the hospital,” she said sympathetically. She scanned the book, then handed it to him. “Have a nice day!”
“Shall do,” He said as he took the book and headed home.
He jumped on his bicycle and rode off into the dusk.
Ian was a Pokemon Trainer, but didn’t want to travel around for gym badges. He liked living in Canalave City, and never wanted to leave it. But if he had to do it to save his brother and the others- he most certainly would do it without hesitation. Full Moon Island, and New Moon Island were probably somewhere far- but however far it may be, he wasn’t going to let them rot in bed.
The moment he walked into his front door, he saw his mother crying on his father’s shoulders. Apparently she had heard about the fight between Ethan and Elliott, because she murmuring something about fighting in a public area.
“Oi mum. ’Ello dad,” He said, nonchalantly.
“Son, have you heard about what Ethan did?” His father asked, pulling his wife off of his shoulders.
“He and Elliott got into a fight. I know. I was there,” He said, then quickly added, “at the library reading.”
“Our family has been falling apart ever since Glenn fell into coma,” His father said in a serious tone.
“Speaking of Glenn’s coma! I found this book!” He shouted holding the book in front of him. “Glenn and the others have fallen victim to a Pokemon that goes by the name of Darkrai! He was screaming something about Dark, so he could be talking about Darkrai! The only way to get the others and him to wake up is by getting a Lunar Wing from a Pokemon named Cresselia!”
“Ian, it’s just a book! It’s complete non-sense! “ His mother shrieked in between her sobs.
“But mum-”
“But nothing, Ian! Don’t go claiming a Pokemon did this Glenn! Because it didn’t!” His mother cried.
“Mum it is! It’s go to be!” Ian yelled, “Really, it is!”
“Ian go to bed now, and leave that book on the counter!” His dad roared.
“Stop taking out all your damned frustrations out on Ethan and I! We haven’t done a damn thing!” He said slamming his bedroom door shut, he came out a few moments later, and took his book, while giving them both glares, then returned to his room, slamming the door yet again.
It was true that his parents were taking their frustrations out on him and Ethan. They were finding faults in every little thing they did. They couldn’t eat without being yelled at, sit down in the living room without being yelled at. It made Ian sick. And on top of that, Ethan seemed to be avoiding him. That ticked Ian off even more. They were supposed to be in it together, and yet Ethan kept running off.
“If they’re going to be *******s about it, then I’ll just do it myself…” He took out six Pokeballs, and threw them to the ground. “And you guys, of course, are gonna help.” He was staring down at his Wooper, Quilava, Furret, Sandslash, Ivysaur, and Espeon. “We’re going to rescue everyone… Let’s go…” He returned them to their Pokeballs, and then walked over toward the window, clutching his backpack. He climbed out of the window, and headed to the docks.
