Hello, hello!
I'm just wondering which Pokemon do you think would make an awesome Party?
Or perhaps which type of Pokemon would make an awesome party.

Right now, I'm trying to make a like...Ultra party! Because the party I have isn't to great. (And putting random Pokemon together in one party doesn't make them all that good. X_X No matter how strong they are.)
I wanna become better over Wi-Fi battles! So I gotta know! lol

So I just wanna hear what you people think makes a good party? :3

The way Pokemon is set up makes it impossible for their to be a perfect Pokemon team.

EV training is the closest thing you can get.

Lots of people use at least one of the following: Garchomp, Tyranitar, Metagross, Salamence. Try to fit one or two of them in there and you'll have acouple good pkmn on your team.

Ok, listing random pokes will get her nowhere, because while those pokes are good, if the rest of the team is bad then there's no point having that one pokemon. Check the tier discussion in the battle forum for over-used (abbreviated to OU) pokemon, as these are usually the best. However, most teams will consist of the following:
Physical sweeper: A strong fast pokemon capable of killing stuff
Special sweeper: As above, but uses special attacks
Physical wall: A very defensive pokemon, usually there to ruin a physical sweeper's day.
Special wall: As above, but blocks special sweepers instead.
Those are basically the essentials. A team without one of each will have trouble functioning (With exceptions such as stall teams, which you don't need to worry about)
Other roles include passers, who give your team status boosts, and clerics, which get rid of status conditions. These are more complicated, as a beginner you need to concentrate on the 4 main roles, and a spinner (A poke with rapid spin to get rid of spikes and its variants), as these are fundamental to a good team. You also need to learn how to EV training if you plan on winning, its absolutly vital for wifi play.

They could really do with an EV training guide in the FAQ. I may have to submit one. Until then a brief explaination:
*Each poke has an effort value (EV), which is a number related to a stat (Eg a zubat's EV is 1 speed)
*Whenever you KO said poke in-game (Not over wireless or in battle tower) it gives your poke effort points relative to the value, so beating a zubat will give you 1 EV point.
*When you gain 4 EPs in one stat, that stat gets a +1 boot.
*A poke can gain a maximum of 510 EPs, and a max of 255 in each stat. However only 252 are useful, as EVs need to be divisible by 4 to work.
*For a full guide to which pokes give what EVs, and to different factors and items affecting EVs, go to serebii and click on game mechanics.

What makes a good Pokemon team? The OU Pokes are good.

What makes a good team you'll like? A group of your favorites.

A good party consists of Pokemon you like and of course ones who have consistent stats. That whole EV training kinda makes it easy to make any Pokemon a good Pokemon.

Gofre listed the roles you want. Another tip is to try to cover as many types as you can to deal with anything you come up against. Try not to have more than one same-type attack per pokemon (eg. dont bother giving a pokemon 3 or 4 fire attacks). Dont bother with weak moves like cut etc.
Try to cover the weaknesses. For example, I taught my arcanine thunderfang and my salamence fire fang in case they get stuck up against a water or ice type.
Give them good items. Dont go for things that increase a certain type of attack eg miracle seed, charcoal, since they dont do all that much anyway. Use things like leftovers and focus sash.

Nobody in this thread has any idea what they're talking about except for Gofre (and maybe Sajiri).

Anyway, selecting random OUs or a group of favorites does not make a good team. If anything, what makes a good team is balance- a balance between offence and defense, weakness and strength. A perfect team should be able to counter all of the threats in the current metagame while still being able to pose a threat to any opposing team. But most of all, a team has to work together- each Pokemon must contribute something unique to the team, while being able to support each other when needed and cover each other's weaknesses.

That's it, basically.

There is no perfect team. Simple.

If you want help, go to Strategies & Movesets. This doesn't go here so it shouldn't stay open.
