You can't even enter the Smogon forum with at least all of that memorized. High tier netbattlers as a basic need to have that done, with at least all OU stats memorized on top of that (especially speed of all the '392's, which are Jolteon, Aerodactyl, Mewtwo and Crobat.) Persian on netbattle lives on the pure fact that everyone underestimates its speed, which is actually higher than Gengar. People actually *do* know all of that stuff.

Fanfics on the other hand should have trainers forget these things on purpose. Stats are no longer inexistant, and sometimes 2 abilities can co-exist unlike the game where it's one or the other (ex: Early Bird + Synchronize together on Xatu). Of course, move combinations are also a great addition to fanfic battles.

*Hmmph!*
When I say "real-world", I mean someone who's an actual trainer with real live Pokemon, not some nerd who sits at their computer all day and can just pop up an information site if they don't know much about a Pokemon. In a real live setting, if Pokemon did exist, you just can't do that.

Am I more than you bargained for yet?

Well, they may not have the internet at their disposal or the drive that some highly competitive netbattlers have, but a trainer can pop up information on their pokdex whenever they want: pokmon type, data, moves, etc. Also, they're bound to learn about pokmon in school. Though of course, not everyone pays attention in class or remembers that kind of stuff, but they do have access to the info with their 'dex if they're an official trainer.

Not that there would be anything on there about stuff as concrete as base stat values and damage modifiers and stuff, but they would get a relative handle on what pokmon are fast or what ones are good at physical attacks and stuff like that.

In which an undead trainer, a bloodthirsty super-clone, and an irascible ex-Rocket grunt set out to rescue an imprisoned Mew--if they don't end up murdering each other first.

Haha, Niko, I so want to put your avatar in my sig. Could I steal the image?
Sure, be glad too!

Why does emo suck? ;;

*hides*
My friend, you need to be enlightened. Emo is just a stupid fad where everyone suddenly began to think that it's cool to have stupid hair cuts, wear skinny tight girl pants, and become pussies. It's corrupting the society, basically making the guys into stereotypical idiots, writing non-sensical poetry, and contemplating on suicide because they couldn't get a girlfriend (hell, can't they just do us a favor and jump off a building or something instead of acting like pussies and cut themselves... not to mention the wrong way?). I mean, sure. It's been months ever since I broke up but I'm not contemplating on suicide. I mean, grow up for goodness sake. Then the music industry. Oh boy. Let's just say that all emo bands are just commodities. Horrible commodities who make horrible music. It's a shame people actually like their music.

Depends on how they use the pokedex really to see if they're just copying the anime. If you're using the pokedex to look up the name of super-common Pokemon, or use it on something that you've seen before, then you're like Ash. However, pokedex also has the function to check on Pokemon attacks, and in those cases Pokedex can be put into a real use.

I honestly think that "real world Pokemon" still got a lot of things to memerize. They should know the names of attacks, what the attacks basically do, and every other aspect of an attack. Since attacks are universal for all Pokemon, attacks can be memorized. (But at the same time, some attacks' effect are changed from the game. For example, Reflect isn't always reducing the effect of a physical attack by 2. It seems that it can reduce as much as the caster wants as long as the caster is strong enough. Yet trainers should know that Reflect can greatly reduce the damages taken from physical attacks.)

Stats of a Pokemon can be memorized too, but only up to a certain degree here. They probably know the base stats, but they don't know the exact stat value for their Pokemon due to the different growth rate and level rating.

Hell no it's not. It's a frikin disease.

Emos make me smile.
So true... they're really fun to make fun of... trying to be overly angsty and saying that their life sucks when they live in a mansion, have BMWs, and own an iPod nano...

Newsflash from JA: I went to a convention on the weekend, and my fic "Summer's Dying Days" came second in the fanfic competition! It was an international competition and apparently they got about twice as many entries this year as last, so that's pretty cool ^^;. I wouldn't even have considered entering with a Pokmon fic if Fwosty dear~ hadn't rated it that highly, so it's all thanks to him :P. Although I'm slightly perplexed at the prize. I mean, what use does a writer have for a pencil board? XD

"One reason why mathematics enjoys special esteem, above all other sciences, is that its laws are absolutely certain and indisputable, while those of other sciences are to some extent debatable and in constant danger of being overthrown by newly discovered facts."
Albert Einstein

"What science can there be more noble, more excellent, more useful for men, more admirably high and demonstrative than mathematics."
Benjamin Franklin

"Mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty – a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture, without appeal to any part of our weaker nature, without the gorgeous trappings of paintings or music, yet sublimely pure and capable of a stern perfection such as only the greatest art can show."
