My computer hesitates every few seconds, and sometimes it's worse than other times. There are also times when it doesn't really hesitate much at all. By "hesitate", I mean it freezes for a split second. For example, any sound, no matter from where, would sound like it was skipping, like a bad CD. Video hesitates as well, as do YouTube videos, text cursors, and everything else.

I know it's not CPU usage, spyware, or too many programs running. Restarting the computer temporarily fixes it, but not for long.

What's going on, and how do I fix it?

It sounds like a common problem that occurs when you run out of RAM and the computer starts to use your hard drive cache as extra RAM. If you have more than 768mb than you may have a bigger problem.

If you would be so kind as to list the following specs, I'm sure that we could figure this out.

- CPU make/ model & manufacturer
- GHz of CPU
- Current amount of RAM
- Type of RAM (ex. pc2700)

Equipment:
Custom PC, MacBook Pro (MBPr), 3DSxl Blue, 3DS Midnight Purple, iPhone 4S Green

everything but the type of Ram can be found in your system properties.
(right click on My Computer and choose properties.
you can easily find out what type of RAM you have by using he scanner on Crucial,=.com

- CPU make/ model & manufacturer Unknown CPU Type - it was custom-made by Quick Connect, if that helps
- GHz of CPU 1.11
- Current amount of RAM 512 MB
- Type of RAM (ex. pc2700) I don't see where this is on the Crucial scan page.
There's the results so far.

well this all looks like it would work fine under XP, I'm not sure exactly what the problem might be. you should try checking the programs that are running even though they are not shown. look under the processes tab in your task manager. if you don't recognize one, google it and usually you can find out what it is.

Well, the problem isn't there.

EDIT: I fixed it. My computer needed a new audio driver or something.
